Just solved a really annoying battery drain issue. Figured I'd post the results...

I noticed last week that my phone was going through the battery MUCH faster than normal. A check of Settings/About Phone/battery use told me that the "Mediaserver" was using over 35% of my battery, surpassing the phone standby -- which is saying a LOT given what my T-Mo reception is like.

Now, I'm still learning, so when the description says is does something with running apps, I assume that the issue is an app I recently installed, so I remove apps I recently installed or updated. Nope.

I saw another post about a laggy G2 that seemed to also have battery issues. It recommended using Watchdog Lite to see what was happening. So, off to the Android Market.

After installing Watchdog Lite, I saw that the CPU was 0% idle with 75-95% "nice." Well, no idle = battery suckage, so off to see what tasks are using CPU. The initial check didn't show anything -- until I enabled monitoring "Phone Processes." The alerts for the "mediaserver" "linux task" showed that this process was taking every cpu cycle it could. Off to Google.

Did a search on "android mediaserver loop" and found a couple of bugzillas that essentially said that a corrupt media file (pic, movie or sound) could send mediaserverover the edge. So, I started to move *every* picture off the sd card onto my computer's HD.

Knew I was on to something when mediaserver stopped going crazy once usb storage was turned on. So, I moved all the image and movie files off and turned off usb storage. The CPU spun back to100% busy, but slowed back down to about 9o% or more idle.

Now all I have to do is find the bad file or files, and I can add it to the bugzilla.

EDIT: It seems that this has also made the cooliris gallery wake up and start updating again. So anyone seeing that the gallery isn't updating may need to see if their mediaserver linux task is unusually busy. If so, offload as many media files as possible and see whap happens...

@Wira_lover, which nightly version are you using now? my battery performance quiet bad.
*
im using all the nightlies. i update everytime there is an update.

maybe you are having rogue apps? or wakelocks?

manage apps, under developer options, tick on hold back key to kill process. so whenever you are done with a certain app, hold the back key to ensure its 100% killed. and turn on auto brightness.

whenever you flash a customer kernel, you will have that yellow triangle.

if you already have SU and CWM after flashing a custom kernel, it means you are rooted already. im not sure what aflash is, what firmware and kernel are you using?

ok dude. this is bad.

first things first. can you boot into download mode?
-hold down+home+power button

if yes, flash stock ICS firmware or GB firmware depending on what firmware you prefer.

if not able to boot in download mode, try booting into recovery mode and flash a kernel

bro you need to give me more details man. what is asia malaysia kernel?

since you can boot into download mode. you need to flash a stock ROM.

so hiwhc rom do you want to use? gingerbread or ICS?

ICS - I9100GDXLP6

if gingerbread - JPLC1

download one of this firmwares, i suggest the ICS which is the latest, and flash it using ODIN while your phone is in download mode.

once its done. see if it says successful and see if phone can boot up.

No prob bro. glad that problem is solved.

ok now. if you wanna upgrade to ICS, just download the ICS firmware ive posted above and flash the stock firmware using ODIN.

once that is done, in order to get rooted :

Method 1:

Advantages: Easy to do, permanent ClockworkMod recovery achieved.
Disadvantages: Increases flash counter. (No yellow triangle though.)

Prerequisites: Codeworkx's LP7 or ICS Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1631934
root.zip here: http://www.mediafire.com/?w3zzodjc1b8kqdh
Step 1: Download Codeworkx's LP7/ICS kernel and flash it using Odin.
Step 2: Put root.zip on either the internal or external SD card.
Step 3: Boot into ClockworkMod recovery by pressing Home Button + Volume Up key + Power key while your phone is turned off.
Step 4: Select install zip from sdcard.
Step 5: Select choose zip from sdcard/internal sdcard, depending on where you put root.zip.
Step 6: Flash root.zip and reboot.

Congratulations, you should now have root access.

Method 2:

Advantages: No flash counter increase or yellow triangle.
Disadvantages: Temporary ClockworkMod Recovery. You must have an External SD Card!

Prerequisites: The CWM.zip and root.zip from this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?yh2ii6mbozz9243
Step 1: Put the CWM.zip onto your EXTERNAL SD Card and root.zip on external OR internal SD.
Step 2: Get into the stock recovery mode by pressing Home Button + Volume Up key + Power key while your phone is turned off.
Step 3: From there, select apply update from external storage, and select the CWM.zip.
Step 4: You should now be taken to CWM Touch Recovery, where you should select install zip from sdcard.
Step 5: Select choose zip from sdcard/internal sdcard, depending on where you put root.zip. (Your internal and external sdcard might have their locations switched with the other, so double-check!)
Step 6: Flash root.zip and reboot.

Congratulations, you should now have root access without binary increase or a yellow triangle.

ADVANCED Method 2:

Advantages: No flash counter increase or yellow triangle. Permanent ClockworkMod Recovery.
Disadvantages: More difficult than the other methods, but this will give you the best result once achieved.

Prerequisites: Properly executed all steps from Method 2 and obtained root.
Codeworkx's LP7 or ICS Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1631934

Step 1: Download and install ktool from Google play.
Step 2: Extract the contents of Codeworkx's LP7 or ICS kernel.
Step 3: Find the file "zimage" and copy it onto your phone's storage.
Step 4: Use ktool to flash the "zimage" file. Reboot.

Congratulations, you now have achieved root with permanent ClockworkMod Recovery AND no flash counter increase.

actually i dont understand your issue. ClockWorkMod kernel is required in order to be rooted. only then you can flash CM9. without a rooted kernel you cnat flash cm9
