hi guys, any known issue for the CM9 nightly build for i9100g?

i saw someone mentioning about touch button and camera also GPS button. Do you guys encounter the same issue as well? I want to flash my gf's i9100G cz her vibration not working after update official ICS and wanna get her phone themed with S3 launcher and stuff as well.

but need to make sure the CM9 doesn't create more problems than ori rom. camera for her is a main function of the phone.

There are some issues in previous nightly. But all is solved in every new nightlies. The latest nightly seemed to have solved bluetooth problem.

Mine is still few nightlies back coz I dont really have any problems with it.

Do frequent the xda thread and search for your concerns. Probably existed but solved already.

yea, apparently after reading many pages.. the camera issue seems to be solved. the touch button backlight can be disabled as long as don't reboot phone. will flash for her soon.

download the kernel from the link below.

ICS - 5.5.0.4

then follow the instructions

CWM is not kernel FYI..

it's a modded recovery mode.

CWM is not rooted as well. both are separated. some CWM comes along with root or vice versa..

u can flash a custom ROM without root at all, u just need a recovery mode. although most custom ROM requires root or comes with root.

basically there are three different things here.

ROOT, RECOVERY, ROM

KERNEL is different.

even thou i see u r good at flashing, but it doesn't seem that u understand the difference. Hope this clears your confusion.

this is the heading of the subject

[KERNEL][GT-I9100G][GB+ICS/LP7] ClockworkMod Recovery 5.

and technically he needs to be rooted to have a CWM recovery.

and i was trying to put it in laymans terms for mozzart. thanks anyway for the clarification
*
no.. one does not need to root to have CWM..

root is flashed via CWM

CWM is either flashed via Odin, or via stock recovery.

the kernel heading is for the LP7 zImage file via ktool. Don't mix up.

Android version 2.3.6

Baseband Version DZKJ2

Kernel 2.6.35.7

Gingerbread DZKJ2

The only thing I'm not sure about is the first step. Which kind of ADB driver should I install on my PC?

Added on July 13, 2012, 2:42 pmI think i Know what's my problem already, I don't know what / which ADB driver to use. Any recommendations ?

yeah..im try to use odin and my phone start to boot normally..argh my custom binary has 1 counts..i just realize i wrongly flash the GB kernel just now..its suppose ICS.. thats why my phone wont boot up..

then now i can flash custom rom like cm9 using cmw?
*
if u use method two and failed on method two advance, u have ady lost the CWM touch. So u won't be able to boot into CWM recovery.

flashing GB kernel into ICS will result in bootloop/brick.

QUOTE(ahrot @ Jul 20 2012, 02:30 PM)
haha its seems im using method one unintentionally..but i dont understand what it means by this "This is a kernel including ClockworkMod Recovery for use on Samsung roms.
Don't use this kernel on aosp based roms like CyanogenMod!!!"

for your reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631934
*
OK, first of all, do not confuse between kernel, recovery, root and ROM.
in codeworkx thread, he mentioned:

QUOTE
This is a kernel including ClockworkMod Recovery for use on Samsung roms.
Don't use this kernel on aosp based roms like CyanogenMod!!!

Instructions
Power your device off
Boot into Download-Mode using Volume Down + Home + Power
Hit Volume Up to accept the warning
Start Odin
Choose "GT-I9100G_XX_ClockworkMod-Recovery_X.X.X.X.tar" as PDA (no repartition) << this is CWM ONLY
Connect your Phone
Start flashing
After reboot you can easily root your device using SuperOneClick << this is ROOT ONLY

then following that he has another instructions for kernel

QUOTE
Instructions
- git clone git://github.com:teamhacksung/GT-I9100G_ClockworkMod-Recovery.git
- modify build.sh to fit your needs
- execute it, the final zImage will be at out/ << the zImage is the file for KERNEL ONLY

similar case to method two and two advance.
in method two, u will get TEMPORARY CWM TOUCH.. once reboot then gone..
in method two advance, u will get PERMANENT CWM NON-TOUCH version

CWM is not a kernel, it's just a recovery mode.

codeworkx mentioned don't flash this on CM9, bcz CM9 is running a different kernel and will not work with this. U need to flash this BEFORE flashing CM9, so that CM9 will overwrite the existing kernels.

Fundamentals of flashing a new ROM requires ONLY CWM. Root or no root doesn't matter, cz the ROM itself will be pre-rooted if it requires root for it's custom apps. Kernels also separate one. Custom ROMs can work with stock kernels, unless they require special tweaking, then they will include their own kernels within the ROM .zip file.

QUOTE(Wira_lover @ Jul 20 2012, 02:46 PM)
ok im not a pro in explaining technical terms cause i myself am also learning.

but from what i think i understand.

code said that because, his CM9 already has its own kernel. so you dont need to flash this on cm9.

from there, you just download ICS 5.5.0.4. flash using odin. then follow all the steps.

we normallflash this kernel when we are on stock rom, to get root access and CWM. from there we will start flashing cm9
*
u r confused with the kernels and recovery, that's y u can't really understand his situation.
