QUOTE(chocobee_2707 @ Sep 28 2005, 11:28 AM) this is my problem. Is your PS2 can't play all the games or only DVD9 games? Here is what you can do to know wether you have laser problem or modchip problem.i use ps2 39006series...cannot play ps2 games, is it coz of the malfunction or modchip or my ps2 is the old model that cannot play dvd9?? 1. Put in an audio cd (pressed or cdr disc). If all of the songs can be played then your CD diode is ok. 2. Put in a DVD movie (pressed or DVDR). If the movie plays well then your DVD diode is ok. Conclusion, your laser is still ok. If both step 1 & step 2 or either steps fail then it is confirm that you laser is gone. 3. Both step 1 & step 2 are ok but still can't boot any PS2 games (you got Red Screen Of Death), you might have a dead modchip or any of the modchip wires loose. |

Be caution...powerboard for v4-v8 models are not compatible with v9-v11 powerboards.
note : v4=3000x v5/v6=3000xR v7/v8=3900x v9/v10=5000x |

no worries,
you can ask those 'technician' from game shop do for you not 100% working and they might charge you for about RM50-RM100 just to tune the white gear |

Most probably your modchip has problem with this game. Some old chips got problems with newer games. That's why is the best to get a modchip that can be flashed upgradable firmware such as DMS3/4, Matrix Infinity, O2 and Ripper.

My PS2 (Fat version) is working fine (Messiah 2 chip i think):
1) : the cd trays ejects normally but when you load the tray using the eject button, the tray will move very slowly back to the unit. is this a mechanical problem or dust issue? 2) whats the latest and best mod chip in the market now? so far i have no issues playing games but when i swap games, sometimes i do need to reboot. |

If you're really a PS2 enthusiast and don't mind spending money then I would really recommend it. |

I got some questions, hope you can help.
1) How much does the DMS4 cost? 2) What's the benefit of having DMS 4? and what's the major difference between Pro and Lite? 3) Is it still feasible to mod my SPCH10000 model with a newer modchip, or better get another newer model? 4) I read about HDAdvance and USB eXtreme, and apparently it works with all PS2 models. Basically, you must transfer games to the HDD using the PS2 lens? Or can you hook it up to the PC and transfer from there? Thanks and cheers |

QUOTE(yikyeou @ Oct 14 2005, 11:38 PM) edit: this is the way to play ps1 game for my ps2. (dont know what chip but worth a try)To play, put ur ps1 disc. switch off. (stand by mode). then press the same button to on and hold about 3 seconds (before ur ps2 off again) and voila. it is the same as watching ahem dvds. note: if u want to play ps2 games again, then u have to switch off everything and on the ps2 without holding for 3 sec. QUOTE(bem69 @ Oct 15 2005, 03:25 AM) next time edit ur post.bout ur prob, r u trying to save game into memory card in slot 2? if yes, then its not a prob. most games (almost all) doesnt support saving into slot 2. afaik. correct me if wrong. if ur prob is cant access in the ps2 browser, or cant read/copy/delete then it must be ur ps2 prob. i cant help. 1)rm230-280 aint cheap.
2)benefit of dms are: Specs DMS4 Professional DMS4 PRO - DEV.olution Memory System 4 Professional ![]() DMS4 professional offers amateur coders and developres the ability to boot "Homebrew" applications on their console, for development purposes. Furthermore DMS4 Pro allows you to watch Multi-region DVD's on your system. Compatibility is comprehensive (Jap/USA/Asian V1-V10). The feature packed big brother of the DMS4 Lite has a 2MB flash to store Homebrew ELF files within the internal flash memory. The DMS4 Pro has all the features of the Lite, further it boasts enhanced security, larger flash memory and will have extra features added in software at no extra cost in future update builds. Auto-detect and boot of all media types DMS4 will automatically detect whether a PS1, PS2 CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD9 or DVD+RW (Homebrew Elf's), original domestic CD/DVD is inserted and then boot it without any interaction from the user. Reduced wire Count 17 wires for v1-v7 PAL/USA or 18 wires for v1-v7 Japan/Asian 18 wires for v9-v10 USA and PAL (19 with DVD+/-RW support / T wire) or 19 wires for V8,9 and 10 Japan/Asian (20 with DVD+/-RW support / T wire) High capacity flash We now use a 2MB flash in our design to accomodate future flash upgrades with enhancements and extra integrated features. Unrivaled boot success rate and compatibility The boot rate of DMS4 is nigh on 100%. The DMS4 Supports V1-V10 USA/ASIAN and PAL Flash upgrade via CD The popular CD flash upgrade first introduced by DMS3 and has been retained offering a choice of firmware upgrade options. DVD region Free with RCE support. Watch all region DVD movies on your PS2. Colour Fix Force the colour mode to your choice. Screen Fix Green screen removed for Playback of DVD Movies. DEV.olution Mode 1 Load appliactions and software from your PS2 Memory card using our specially integrated DEV.olution mode. DEV.olution Mode 2 Load applications and software from your PS2 HDD using our specially integrated software. DEV.olution 2 is the successor to DEV.olution 1 mode. Software Modchip disable Disable the Modchip in software by pushing Square on the Joypad. 3)if i m not mistaken ur machine is v1..so it should be compatible 4)i recommend HDLOADER.. the real deal..aint those 2 class programmes. u can instal the games via the console it self, it will take a while, but using a software called WINHIIP1.7.3, u can connect your ps2 hdd to your pc and instal the games faster. and oh yeah, ur pc must have a dvd drive. |

snipersnake, thank you for your comprehensive reply. Now, I'm contemplating on whether to get another PS2 or maintain using this V1. The lens is a bit dodgy now, and I don't think I can replace the lens anywhere now.
RM230-280 huh? Around the price of my Xecuter 2, so I guess that's normal. Again, thanks for the info. |

Hi all
I am a newbie here. Planning to get PS2 ... guess only the slim ps2 is available. The PS2 is for my 8 year old son who will be playing the kids only games. I do not think I will ever be playing it. Looks like will DMS4 Lite work for me, and how much is that cost ? Assuming I get the slim PS2 with the mod ? Need a ball park pricing to know that I am not 'sotong'. Please PM me if you cannot post it here. TQ TQ This post has been edited by lookman: Oct 16 2005, 08:07 AM |

QUOTE(yikyeou @ Oct 16 2005, 01:06 PM) let assume that you are using the clone modchip. (mostly yes. if you purchase locally) to play dvd movie. place the dvd movie in the disc tray. turn it off (hold reset button for 2 second) turn it on while hoding the reset button until the Blue l.e.d when lit (the eject l.e.d) then let go. if this method can't work there is another one place the dvd movie in disc tray double tap reset button to play movie. to enable back the ps2 games to work. the easier way is turn the ps2 power off (at the back of your ps2 which is near av input) and turn back on~ |

How about wireless game pad ? Any good brands or any cheapo version would do.
Will it clash with wireless LAN in the house. I have seen some using 2.4Ghz frequency which is the same frequency as DECT and wireless LAN. Cheers |

If you try googling Pro7 of course you can't find it because it's a clone Mars modchip and you how much is that modchip actually cost...you'll be surprise man. This is how those Sg Wang guys survive...CUT THROAT....muahahahhahahh |

I'm posting this again here in the technical forum.
How To Choose A Good PS2 Modchip The most important part of selecting a mod-chip is to ensure that you select a "stable" chip that goes into a "sleep mode" after booting the required game and can "wake up" again if needed to. STABILITY: There are many different ways to check if a mod-chip is stable, but unfortunately the most effective way is through experience. Things that you can check for yourself; a.When you look at a mod-chip PC Board you will note that among the few components there is a large I.C. or chip (sometimes more). When you read the markings on such a chip you will see that it will have part numbers (ignore these) and a large logo like name, this is what you should be looking at. Actel, Xilinx and Quicklogic have proven to be the best. The reason for this is; They are very well engineered chips with stability in mind. They have an "over voltage" protection feature, meaning that it will block voltage spikes which can damage the lens. They can run at higher clock speeds than what is required by the PS2 meaning that data transfer can be executed with precise accuracy. The exact opposite of these 3 chips is the "Scenix or UbiCom" I.C. this is actually not the same type of chip as the Actel, Xilinx and Quicklogic chips. You can almost call it the big brother of the PSone chip. It does not have any voltage protection and it's maximum clock speed is equal to the minimum clock speed required by the PS2. What this means is that lens damage can occur through a voltage spike, and data transfer is normally not very accurate. b.Except for the DMS3, normally when there is more than 1 large chip present on the modchip PC Board it is not a good chip. SLEEP MODE: After the chip has booted the title required, it will go into hiding and only monitor what the PS2 is doing. The advantage of this is that the chip does not interfere with the normal operation of the PS2 and it does not damage the lens by sending unnecessary signals to the lens. Unfortunately since "sleep mode" is part of the code that is programmed on the chip, there is no way of checking for this feature on the actual chip. WAKE UP: Only chips that have sleep modes can have a "wake-up" mode. Consoles from v7 (SCP39004) had a new feature added to them. The console can try and authenticate the disk that is being played at any time. People with v7 consoles, Magic 3 chips, and a NTSC or pirated version of Splinter Cell will know what I'm talking about. While playing the game it will go to a red screen that says "PLEASE INSERT A PLAYSTATION® OR PLAYSTATION® 2 FORMAT DISK". If you have a chip installed with a "wake-up" feature the chip will wake up and resend the required data to stop this from happening. Now that you more or less know how to tell a good quality chip from a bad one it's time to ask yourself what your needs are. I will explain all the different features in detail. BOOTS PSone GAMES: I think you can figure this one out for yourself. (No matter what chip you have, you will never get 100% of all PSone game to work on a PS2) PERFORMANCE SCREEN CENTERING FOR PSone GAMES: When a NTSC (American or Jap) PSone game is being played on a PAL (Europe, R.S.A.) PS2 the screen will lift up, meaning that a part of the top of the screen will be cut off. The amount that is cut off depends on the size of the T.V. On a 74cm T.V. about 100mm will usually be cut off. If a chip has the "screen center" feature it will fix this problem for you. BOOTS ALL PS2 GAMES: Say no more. Please note that from time to time certain chips may have problems with some games. This is why "Flash upgradeable" chips are normally the best choice. Normally cheaper chips have the most problems with imported original games. FAST BOOT MODE: When holding a certain button while pressing reset with a disk inside the console, the console will reset but not show any of the start up screens. Instead it will go straight to the first game screen. DISK SWAPPING: If you use a cheat device like an AR2 or Xploder you will need to put the cheat disk in the console first and after selecting the game cheat required you will have to insert the game disk. At this point the console will try to authenticate the disk and if the chip does not support "disk swapping" it will not boot the game. MULTI REGION DVD: Currently R.S.A. PS2s can only play Zone 2 DVDs. "Multi region DVD" will allow you to play all zones (DVDs from any country). MACRO VISION REMOVAL: When trying to record a DVD movie by connecting your PS2 to a VCR the screen will go black for a few seconds then the audio will go away and then some lines across the screen. This will carry on for as long as the VCR is recording, the moment you stop recording the movie will play as normal. This is what "macro vision" does. There are 2 different "macro visions" at work, the first is on the actual console, the second on the DVD disk provided that it has this type of protection. Since there's constantly new developments in "macro vision' protection it is not possible for modchips to remove "macro vision" on every disk. DEV MODE 1: Short for devolution mode. Currently a few chips support this mode, the DMS3, Matrix infinity, Ripper, Lisa XP, DMS4, O2, Ghost2 and DMS4. This allows you to boot applications or software from a folder on the memory card. Take for example the PS2 reality media player which allows the console to play MP3s and DivX movies. Normally if you would like to use a program like this you will have to manually create a disk with the media player and the MP3s or DivX movies on it. You will have to do this for every disk that you would like to play. If you have a mod-chip that supports "devolution mode" you'll be able to install such a program to your memory card and also boot it from there by holding a certain button when turning the console on. This means that all your favourite MP3s and DivX movies can be thrown on a disk and played without having to create them in any special way. DEV MODE 2: A boot mode for the PS2 hard drive. Works pretty much the same way as devolution mode1.DMS4 supports this mode. O.S. OR OPERATING SYSTEM: A new browser for the PS2 which will allow the user to change video settings e.g. if you are using an older TV set and the game plays back in black and white, then the default output can be changed to PAL to prevent this from happening. Homebrew apps can also be installed and un-installed from the O.S. HOMEBREW APPS: These are software programs deigned by coders in their spare time. These programs are not copyright protected by Sony and do not belong to Sony at all. These programs are free and may be downloaded and used as required by the user. Since these programs are not PS2 games, they need to be booted in a special way. If a mod-chip has a devolution mode or O.S. then these apps can be booted from the memory card or HDD just by selecting it on-screen. STEALTH MODE (SWITCH OFF): The mod-chip can be deactivated by the user. The console will behave as it did before a mod-chip was installed. There are 3 reasons why this should be used. a. If an original game is detected the mod-chip simply turn it off. b. If you would like to play games online. Some servers will not allow you on if your console has a mod-chip in it. c. You can not install official Sony software or upgrades with a mod-chip installed unless it can be turned off. FLASH UPGRADABLE: "Flash upgradeable" means to be able to update or reprogram the mod-chip via CD with the correct software on it. All you have to do is put the update disk in and the chip will do all the work. Earlier we covered the different chips that can be used to create a mod-chip, but essentially the code on the mod-chip is what makes it. Mod-chip developers are constantly working to better the code or software on their mod-chips and when they do you can have these updates for free forever. HDD PATCHING: This is when a game will installs most of it's files to a hard drive that is connected to the PS2. Note it will only do this if you have an official Sony hard drive. When you have "HDD Patching" enabled you can connect any computer hard drive not larger than 137 GB to your PS2 and the mod-chip will do a patching process to make the game believe that is the official Sony hard drive. |

QUOTE(yikyeou @ Oct 18 2005, 05:15 PM) Congrats..that's what I like it Q1. How do I want to know what modchip I'm using? A1. You must do a visual check, means you must open your PS2 and take a pic and post it here. Maybe I or the rest of the members can identify it for you. There is no other way, I repeat...NO OTHER WAY, so don't ask other way than opening up your machine. If you scared to open it up ask someone who knows what's he's doing. Don't be like my friend who end up destroying his PS2 just to see the stupid clone modchip. Q2. PS2 Reality A2. Personally I like SMS (Simple Media System) better as it has support for playing Divx/xvid avis from network, hdd, usb device, cd and even dvd format. Where to get it. You can get it from ps2-scene.org. I've tried PS2 Media Reality and really don't like it. How to use it very simple. How to use SMS Commands: At Startup: Select-R1 for NTSC Select-R2 for PAL Select-R1-Square for non-interlaced NTSC Select-R2-Square for non-interlaced PAL Menu: Triangle- up one directory level Left or right directional- switch to device menu Up or down directional- navigate files Select+Circle- switch PS2 off Select-R1- move screen right Select-L1- move screen left Select R2- move screen down Select L2- move screen up Select-Square- save current configuration to mc0:/SMS Select-Triangle- exit to PS2 Browser While playing a film: Triangle- exit to file menu Select- Pause (hit select again or hold for 200ms and the "Pause" message will disappear) Start- Resume |

I got a silly question. If I just plan to play 'ahem' games only and not use it for DVD movie watching, do I need to mod the PS2 ?
Also no plans of connecting on-line to any games server too. Just normal DVD PS2 games. Thanks This post has been edited by lookman: Oct 20 2005, 02:09 PM |

Your ps2 is struggling to read from the disc that's why. |

Hey guys, my ps2 has been giving problems recently. It's a 5XXXX series, 50002 if i'm not mistaken, dunno whats the importance of it anyway, yeah call me newb
I havent touched it for almost 2 months and i started gaming again now. Since i bought until 2 months ago it was working fine, except 8 out of 10 times it gives RSOD. But still can play, just have to tolerate resetting it over and over again. In this recent 1 week, the first few days can play w/o problem, but suddenly the thing cannot read disc anymore. I tried that 3 step method, testing CD and DVD movie, nothing happen. So it's correct to assume the lens is gone? But why? It was working the day before !! I tried PS2 games also, cannot work. Any ideas wat happened? And where is the cheapest place to repair it? Also, what causes RSOD? Lousy modchip? I bought my PS2 about 1.5 years ago in Singapore. Gee, maybe i kena con. Hi,
i'm having this weird problem and although i think i've solved it but still it bugs me. its the red screen. i've narrowed down the problem to the disc brand. i know its not my ps2. by the way its modded with infinity v1.54 ori, v9. this particular brand is giving me the rsod on newer titles. older titles worked just fine. the left one is giving the rsod and the right one loaded just fine. any comments? thanks |

HDloader related question here.
I have followed all the steps required to get it working, but I am having trouble booting the CD ISOs burnt to CDR. Got the copies all over, after reading through thoroughly from the HDLoader thread. I have even consulted buddy member vearn27, and yet we are still clueless bout whats going on. My problem is that the console doesnt recognise or boot the CD. On boot, it either goes to the Browser + System Configuration page or give me the RSOD. Using a SCPH39006 NTSC-J with Messiah. Would appreciate if anyone can shine some light on this.. |

redtiger, thanks for ur reply.
Q1. Yeap, verbatim gold..slowest speed at 4x Q2. Tried both, even those upped by tot31 on ps2hd Q3. Yes Q4. Yes, still playing games. very much alive n kicking. I came across some post where some ppl would have the same problem. Not many, but the closest thing I can think of would be adding some dummy file in order for the lense to read it. Tried that, but still no results. Currently down to last 2 options. Trying out HDA 3.0 and if it aint working, going to try it on another console. |

QUOTE(phobian @ Nov 4 2005, 12:56 AM) redtiger, thanks for ur reply. Just to update, it is a console problem. I used it on another console, load both HDLoader 0.6 & HDA 3.0 and it worked like a charm. Q1. Yeap, verbatim gold..slowest speed at 4x Q2. Tried both, even those upped by tot31 on ps2hd Q3. Yes Q4. Funny thing is that both the consoles were bought from the same place, more a less the same time but one can read CDR while the other could not. Lens problem? Or does anyone of u have the same problem? Both the consoles are SCPH39006 which have been used for almost 3yrs. |

I have numerous copies of tot31's link to HDL0.7c iso but seems like my console could not read it. Went straight to the system browser menu. I even tried putting a 200MB dummy file into it, but the CD turned out to be coasters. Googled again for some pointers, but all of em just hinted to put in dummy file -- but didnt say exactly how to go bout it. Anyone can help here? |

Thanks for the heads up. Can I certify that the console can read CDR as I have tested HDA3.0, HDL psownz 200mb & ARMAX all on CDR? It is reading flawlessly.. |

hi phobian,
you are facing 2 problem here, 1. your ps2 didnt boot your hdl cdr, RSOD or stop at browser screen QUOTE(phobian) My problem is that the console doesnt recognise or boot the CD. On boot, it either goes to the Browser + System Configuration page or give me the RSOD. Using a SCPH39006 NTSC-J with Messiah. Anyone can help here? possible cause : lens problem, ISO + cdr media + burning problem, modchip problemby the way, i never use dummy file, i just put big AVI video when creating ISO , hehehe, they boot fine 2. finally able to boot some cdr, but stuck in HDloader splash screen??? redtiger, thanks for the helping note..
How do u add the video file in to the ISO? I notice that the 0.7c ISO is bout 1MB+, but when extract to a folder..it reports bout 600+kb. I did the following with the dummy file, not sure if its right..but m hoping if u can pinpoint where I might took the wrong step. 1. extract hdl0.7c iso to a folder using ISObuster 2. Use CDGenPS2v3 to create new image. Put the following by order to the image -- system.cnf, hdl_official.elf & lastly, dummy file 200mb. 3. Proceed to Alcohol120 to burn the image using the slowest speed, 4x. Tried it with Nero, no go as well. I dont think I have the original HDL Elf as my copy is by ps2ownz, which I believe it has been cracked. Using WinHiip 1.7.3. |

Using WinHiip 1.7.3. you must fix the LBA of SYSTEM.CNF to 12231 using cdgenPS2, or else it wont boot also remember to set your HDD to master before plug it to network adaptor btw, you got a pm, download the 0.7C ISO, custom make for you simple step, drag all the files you want, dummy or big files first, then most important SYSTEM.CNF and SLUS_203.44 from explorer to cdgenPS2, fix LBA SYSTEM.CNF to 12231 (NOTE : actually dummy or other files should put last, but since your lens is a bit wierd, so try put them first my ps2 model is 39001 NTSC/UC, i think it is almost same as yours, good luck This post has been edited by redtiger: Nov 8 2005, 12:00 PM |

You actually don't need to fix the LBA to 12231 if you use a dummy file. You can use 30-100meg of dummy file. A dummy file can be whatever file and name it as DUMMY.BIN.

redtiger, downloading the file now. will give it a try later. Really appreciate it.
snipersnake, vearn27's console and the 2 consoles that I have was bought at the same place and at the same time. I have reconfirmed with him whether if he can boot the 0.7c ISO as is without dummy files and to my surprise -- his console boots up flawlessly. |

DVD movies can be watched with PS2 regardless it's modded or not. If you can't watch a DVD movie that's most probably because of the region of the movie. To be safe buy a DVD movie with ALL Region code or Region 0.

Most of those cheap dvd movies either DVD5 or DVD9 is Region 0. Even an umodded PS2 can play DVD movie backups flawlessly.

If it's messiah(real or cloned).. just hold on to the power button before you switch on the PS2 until the blue light of the reset button lid up.. then let go.. Normally i hold it until the "Sony Computer Entertainment" word came on the screen. This i believe is to switch off the modchip (or put to sleep).
I normally do that when i watch DVD or play PS1 game.. if i didn't do that ... the DVD cannot play at all. But finally, i think it's not recommended to watch DVD on PS2 coz it might wear the lens faster, since DVD is like constant reading one.. And if the above method doesn't work for you, u can have a look here.. some intruction on the type of modchip..(like what to press to watch DVD..and etc). The site is pretty old so newer modchip isn't listed. DDR Freak This post has been edited by raydeness: Nov 8 2005, 03:22 PM |

snipersnake, I couldnt agree more with u tat this community sure is warm and willing to lend a helping hand. Thumbs up for everybody!
tot31, I did just tat except for renaming the dummy file to DUMMY.BIN. redtiger, I would assume the ISO u sent to me works flawlessly for u? If it is so, then no point for me to re-compile it isnt it. Hence, I gotta try out the following:- 1. tot31's approach, recompile 0.7c with 100mb DUMMY.BIN 2. redtiger's ISO 3. redtiger's ISO, recompile ISO, fix LBA of system.cnf to 12231 & dummy files first. Hmm, I could watch most of Uncle Ho's DVDs with very lill problems. Except for those that is badly pressed DVDs could not be played on the console, but it works for the DVD player. This could also mean that ur lense might be out of sync and requires some cleaning and tuning. There is a guide on how to go bout this just couple of post before this. U might wanna check it out, and if it works -- take the 80 buckaroos and buy us a cuppa drink. |

I can confirm that bluechip modchip does not support any homebrew applications, so whoever can't load hdloader your modchip is most probably a bluechip. I've tested 2 machines with bluechip and both failed to load hdloader, usbadvance and any other homebrew applications.

Heya mates.
Tentatively m quite tied up with work. Hence, didnt have the chance to lay my hands on the console yet. Blue chip..red chip..sounds jargon to me though. LOL! But rite now, I would use the splash screen-ejecto method to load HDL/A. When i see the splash screen, eject the tray, take out disc and voila. Shadow of Colossus is not supported on HDL, so it seems.. |

ahoy matey.
actually itys not a chip, the chip itself is named bluechip..one of messiah's (another modchip) clone. unfortunately, the blue chip does not support homebrew appl;ication such as hdloader. |

QUOTE(redtiger @ Nov 9 2005, 02:31 PM) maybe phobian ps2 have this chip As far as i know ... you dont need modchip to run HDloader or the other applications if you have PS2 version prior SlimLine ... you can just do the memcard/PS1 orig game hack ... you just need an original PS1 game (buy it cheap from someone) .. and a memory card.hey tot31, you might have new customer soon but to copy required files into the memory card u need to use a modded ps2 that can play burned CD. Just borrow your fren modded ps2 ... to use this hack .. u just boot the ps2 using the orig game ... ps2 will read the memory card and run the hdloader.... its really a neat hack .. too bad Sony fixed it in SlimLIne versions .. goto to ihack.org for guide .. i think tot31 or snipersnake posted a guide in here too ... |

I think you must be changing the system setting, changing it fromRGB to Component or something (at the PS2 System Browser). Snake, the solution I found is that you'll need to 'correct' this setting at someone's place that has progressive scan OR you have a friend walk you thru the keypresses. I actually had the reverse situation. I was already using progressive scan, then I play around and change it from component to RGB. I couldn't change it back (Not unless I can memorize the keypresses). My case was easier as all I needed to do was to fish out the standard AV cables, change it back and reconnect the component AV out. Good luck with it. |

This bug is causing a overload in the laser coils, resulting in a broken laser. As long there is warranty on the PStwo, as long you can exchange it for a new one, but with a Modchip the warranty is gone. I have a minor problem with my ps2, I noticed that the volume output is no longer as loud as it used to be. Meaning I have to turn up the TV set volume much higher than usual lately...is this a sign of problem surfacing?
It could my mind (or ears) playing tricks on mind since I only noticed it recently with my new games and didn't go back to testing my older games to see if the volume output is the same. This is the only annoyance so far as the games seems to run just fine. Should I clean my lens? My unit is the old "fat version" bought sometime ago back in 2001. Any help is appreciated, cheers guys! |

Ok my DVD player just burned out a few weeks ago. So i decide to play DVD on my PS2. I remembred the shop keeper teling me i must hold the power button when starting or something. Somewhow i got it into VD moed and able to play some DVDs. So yesterday i tried to play back a PS2 game and they have the Error of "please insert a ps2 format blah blah screen"
Movie DVD still works fine. Any idea how to return to the "game" mode after viewing your DVD ? i remember long time ago the shopkeeper said must do something one like press the power button 2x or something like that lo. But seems i forgoten cause i never really use it for DVD movie viewing. BTW im using Messiah chip. |

what the heck is dead beef sydrome?
i heard its one of negative aspect that only remain in PsTwo Slim only.... but rumours said nowadays, more reliable modchips (2 i/c) has been installed in the console as to encounter this dead beef sydrome... in other words... PsTwo Slim is now much better than the fat ones because there's no users encounter disk read error just like we already face in SCPH 39001 and 5series. hey is this rumours true? biar betol.... i bet it is true kot? top-loading feed kan? much better than tray-loading feed..... so which kedai can provide me a durable and reliable PsTwo Slim? I want to trade in my SCPH 5series, (console only~~!) . I dont want to mess my room with plenty of game consoles.... takde ruang dah ne...... |

QUOTE(N3wbi3 @ Dec 8 2005, 11:30 AM) Hi, all. I have a problem here, hope you guys can help me. Please & thankx. There is a voltage leakage somewhere (most probably the grounding is not good enough). Try to use another AV cable and see wether the problem is gone. If it's the same try to use another TV.* I just bought my ps2 last 2 month * My ps2 will electric shock when I touch the black center part of the disc holder. |

M7 modchip is a clone for Mars chips. There are a few of Mars clone like the Pro-7 and Super 7. As for DVD region free, the known modchips to support it are the original Matrix Infinity and DMS4.

Hola to all PS2 gurus out here, a quick question for u guys. I have an old ps2, the first version, got it as soon as it was out. Served me faithfully over the years.. but now after a few mins, the pic gets yellow-ish, then the pic went into static of sort. I plugged it in another tv and changed the AV cable - still the asme. Anyone with any idea? Yea it's old, but I still have a few games to play till PS3 comes out.

I just bought a PS2 two days ago. I have a few questions : 1. Why can't I disable the analog control unlike the one on PS? 2. When I play NFS:Underground, why can't I control it using the arrow keys? Is it disabled? 3. I have a USB fan, how long can I play continuously without overheating? Thanks for ur answers... |

Messiah 3.2 is a clone. The real Messiah stopped production at version 2 and only supported up to PS2 v7/v7 or 39000x series. The makers got sued by Sony. Those cloners are using Messiah's name because it's popularity and as a marketing gimmick, so don't fall for it.

hey guys,
I faced new problem with my fat ps2 model:30002R.. I tried tuning the white cog.. Heres the result.. CD working.. DVD sometimes does sometimes dont When it does the Playstation word pop out and after a second or two.. there will be "zit zit" sound coming out from the ps2 and the whole screen is black.. from what i observed in the spinning mechanism the thing spins like for 20-25 second then it will stop after a while (5second) then it will continue spin with the "zit zit" sound. Any help and assistance would be much appreciated... This post has been edited by Tension59: Dec 22 2005, 12:36 PM |

Hi there! i have a major problem with my ps2. i bought it bout 3 years ago and i use it on average bout 3 hours a day. My ps2 seems to have a mind of it's own when loading games! basically, i can divide it into 4 categories:
1. game loads from the start ie FFX-2, Winning 11 2. a game which used to load automatically now requires between 15 mins to 1 hour of resetin before it loads ie atelier iris 3. games which could be loaded b4 cant be loaded at all! ie God of War, Front Mission 4; nearly 3/4 of my games! 4. new games that dont load at all ie soul caliber 3 and fifa 06 i really dunno whats going on or why it's suddenly actin like this and it's driving me up the wall! >_< does any1 have any idea? and can some1 recommend a good place to send my ps2 for repair? it's modded so cant take it back to sony rite? Sorry for the trouble and thanks for ya time! |

I think it's either the modchip or lens dying, or both.
Older modchip may have problems loading newer games. A good place to repair? If you bother to read the other posts... It's either djinn or tot31. PM them. tot31 is a PS2 enthusiast/hobbyist (with skills to fix PS2 of course) whilst djinn owns(or employed by?) 2 videogame stores. so take your pick. |

I dont know if i'm getting conned or what here. what do you guys think? Please mentioned your PS2 model wether 3000 or 5000 series...Last time i've send my Ps2 to tot31 for lens replacement and was charged for RM 300 not RM 380, pretty good job siap dgn tuning. Certail models have other problems other than the lens or modchip like the 5000 series. ( i think LBA chip..correct if i'm wrong! ). Basically kalau mahal sangat..buy a new slim ps2 console and since probably some of the older stuffs like controller and memory card is usable..just buy only the console..cheaper! |

And bear in mind that nowadays it's hard to find a new lens replacement for the fat PS2. So I think the shop was trying to con you.
What ID thingy btw? |

hi guys, 1st of all this thread is pretty helpful, and after reading most of it, i found that my ps2 have some similar problems. but just to be sure i'll ask to be safe.
currently, my almost 2 year old ps2(fat) is giving headache. so far almost all new ahem games i buy no prob when loading, but recently i decided to play some older games to kill time, and found out most of it very hard to load. need to keep on reset many times only it will work. note that the dvds, although about a year old, were hardly or not scratched at all, and yet it takes multiple tries to load the game. new games that i just bought recently 95% works at 1st attempt. and my very 1st game, ffx, the disc so old(3-4years old, this is my 2nd ps2), can load on 1st attempt. so damn weird. anyway, the main question is, around how much do i need to fork out to fix it? i think my prob is similar to kyran's prob, but just wanna make sure anyway, must careful. thx. I hope so then I can plug in my psone to my lcd monitor... i have personally left on my ps2,psx,and micro genius on for a few hours(static image-game paused) the only thing that happened(bad thing) was the micro genius-the colour stayed on screen for quite sometime... but psx onwards,no problems.. btw,the micro genius, psx were on a normal tv,and the ps2 was on a projection tv... Just a friendly reminder, those who are planning to buy a new ps2 (slim model), its recommended that you fork out extra cash to buy the stand and the USB fan.
I bought those for my new ps2 and up to now, i manage to play games for 6 hours straight without any hangs or problems at all |

^ Really? But what's the stand for? I've got my PS2 running 5 hours MAX and still nothing happens. But I'm still thinking of getting the fan though just to be safe and maybe can play longer (8 hours maybe?

the 3 - 5 hours specs is just a pre-caution that your playstation2 slim won't easily fall to the category of "Lens Dead" you can go beyond 6 hours or more. (yes. 24 hours also no problem. but must be cooling area.. [Fren playing GT 4 Endurance Map gila Sial... 152 Laps. |

I just bought a PS2 1 week ago & so far so good, just yesterday when i'm played the NFS 'Most wanted' it hang once, after reset it work well, hope it nothing wrong with it. the model i bought are scph70007 ntsc/j & is from DjiNn shop. Anyway, just add a customer usb fan at the back, seem it cool down alot, but what i'm worry is it will caught more dust after long run.

Not exactly damage the console.
It will only shorten the lifespan of the lens, because the lens would have to work 'harder' to read a dvd movie... or something like that. That's what I heard anyway. |

the theory is
when playing games the load time is sparse and not continuous(but also game dependent) while the movie dvd, the system continue to retrive data from the disk thats why the lens have to work harder compared to when playing games plus the problem is compounded with the using of weaker lens(rumoured) by Sony Corps on the ps2s set |

How to play PS1 games:
Depends on your modchip. A few modchip will direct boot the PS1 game. Some would require you to hold the reset button until the bluelight appears. |

Use Action Replay Max Evo (torrent *hint hint*) or homebrew apps such as ps2 memory card killer.

QUOTE(MtV @ Jan 30 2006, 02:34 PM) erm.i think there is nothing wrong from your side. if i m not mistaken tot31 also came out with this problem and when he checked its csd's fault, they pressed the disc in wrong booktype format. try other disc that are not from csd. and try to bring that csd cd to other ps2s. |

my ps2 slim. as u all know can play both PAL and NTSC.. ok tat i know.. my Sony tv.. can play both PAL and NTSC.. tats wat i claims.. problem starts whn i start using PAL games.... i get picture and colour.. but a blur effect.. i did a comparison with drakengard 2.. the jap version which is in NTSC and the newly release one PAl version.. i could see tat the NTSC is so much clearer then the PAL one. its like the subtitles all can read. where as the PAL one.. cant hardly read cause its blur... and moving slightly up down left rigght.. why ler?? my ps2 got problems? but i tried on my 14 inch tv.. i think the problem rests on the TV. but i cant really diff cause its a small screen.. so u know cant really tell the diff.. any of u exp this? thanks |

QUOTE(psp _BOY @ Feb 26 2006, 10:13 AM) umm, guys my bro just bought a PStwo slim Imo, yers shld be Modbo modchip.. which i heard nowadays pstwo slimline will be using unlike last time its using Matrix Infinity clone modchip like NH9.but no matter how hard he tried he cant seem to play dvd movies all original...why??? I tried comparing 2 PStwo slimline, one its M.I clone and the other its Modbo modchip.. imo, the u can identify by looking at the start-up when the "Playstation 2" words comes out when u switch-on yer PStwo. If u have NH9 or M.I clone, when startup u can see/notice theres a small wording just below the "Playstation 2" words (Infinity v1.38), and for modbo version will looks like theres a grey box or sumtimes distorted look. So far i noticed the difference and heres are my comparisions :- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -: M.I. clone can play any discs from PS2 games to PSone games w/o any steps like "press reset 2 times and etc like Modbo modchip needed to do those steps to able to play PSone games or DVD movies" -: M.I. clone can play all DVD movies from "backups to original" wherelse Modbo modchip cant play original DVDs. Btw, modbo modchip its based on wut original modchip ah?... like NH9 its based on M.I. rite?. Cheers This post has been edited by TomatomanzSeedlezz: Feb 27 2006, 04:02 AM |

I've got a refurbished NTSC/UC PS2 70012 and it has an MI 1.38 modchip which i believed is clone. It cant play some of the "ahem" dvd's which does not correspond to Region 1...for i belived that some of those are not region free.

Hmmmz.. mabbe coz yers different batch?.. since most of us using 70006 / NTSC/J.Coz i tried all my DVDs from original to backups, no probs Btw, abt the diodfix chip, i seen that when first i bought my PStwo, first its one of earlier batch. I remember the shopdude showing me 2 type of chips.. one its the modchip and the other i think he said supposed to limit voltage, isnt that layman-terms of diodfix chip?.. Problem here is, he doesn't know what mod chip it uses and I don't wanna end up with a troublesome machine. Does anyone have any poitners for me on what to check for the PS2? Thanks. |

QUOTE(lord_shadow @ Mar 1 2006, 08:37 PM) Backup copy? I am ssuimg you are saying all the 'ahem' games. Accordingto him, just put CD in then can play. If for RM 200..just do a quick grab...if more asked nicely to test it out. Hook it up to the tv, test the cd tray, test the av out, the memory card and the controller port wether those still working or not. The utmost important thing is to test some game especially DVD 9 base game like GT4 or God Of War..does it hang or does the drive makes awful sound that could probably spells for a dying lens. Remember lens are the most problematic occurance happened on the PS2 and those fat PS2 lens cost RM 300 to replace. So any pointers or things I should keep an eye when inspecting the machine? |

I am unfamiliar with the PS2 pricing but it seems reasonable though, however do advise if it is not.Alright, so the most important thing is to test out the games especially the new ones. Ok got that! Anything else to look out for? Hope it turns out to be a gem. |

if u r playing a dvd+r media, make sure its a high quality media like verbatim. thats why its an advantage to play using hdloader. save the lense. |

Yea, but i only do that when theres a game 'worthy' enough to have great replayability... unlike some games.. juz play once... its more than enough.. lol.. so not worth to burn into a good quality dvd-disc like mitsubishi, verbatim, ricoh and etc.if u r playing a dvd+r media, make sure its a high quality media like verbatim. thats why its an advantage to play using hdloader. save the lense.
