My PS2 is about 7 years old. Had have it's share of problems but all I manage to fix myself. But I'm stumped on this one. For some reason my disc try just doesn't want to close! Everytime I turn on my PS2 the try opens. and when I close the tray the blu lights blinks and then it opens again!
Haven't really tries to fix it yet but I have had a look at it. It's kinda weird. One minute it was working, I turn it off and went for supper. When I come back it's gone.

Bought mine 4 years ago, now games made on PS2 are crap and i only use my PS2 to play football games. Guess next gen consoles are kicking PS2 of the list quite fast. Now got to wait for PS3 prices to drop to a reasonable price and then PS4 will be released. All same shiat over again *sigh*

QUOTE(kelvemcquay @ Nov 22 2008, 11:59 PM) Is there a way to transfer save data from ps2 memory card to a thumbdrive?? I bet that you want to backup all your game saves which you don't want to delete on the 8MB memory card, right? The answer is Yes. The software is called uLaunch ELF. Try to google for this software and you shall be able to find it. The program is in ISO format, so you need to burn it onto a CD. Then pop it into your PS2, and it will boot up like a PS2 game. Then use it to browse your memory card and copy those data onto your thumbdrive. Another cool this about uLaunch ELF is that it is a launcher program. There are other addon homebrew software such as SMS (Simple Media System) player that allows you to turn your PS2 into a media player. With that, you can play your years of precious DivX or XviD video collection on your PS2. Enjoy This post has been edited by geekster129: Nov 23 2008, 06:32 PM

On its 1 or 2 o'clock direction there is a curve. If the curve is round-ish in shape then is original, else if the curve is more to staright line instead of round curve then might be fake one. This rule applies few years back then, not sure about now though. This thread is so dead. Everyone proceed to enjoy next gen console, sigh.

I still enjoy some PS2 games even though I own a PS3. Just borrowed Guitar Hero(PS2) from my friend yesterday, just to review whether I should get the PS3 version or not... Well, all I can say is that the satisfaction is still there. The graphics look surprisingly good in it's 480p glory on my SDTV.
So, PS2 is still not dead yet, IMHO

There is no point in checking the mod chip since the chip is already installed. Mostly the installed mod chip is clone one so if u plan to use the original modchip u have to buy both unmodded ps2 and ori mod chip online and install it urself. Mod chip isn't the main concern, but the lens is. Sony console is famous for its lens problem so it's best to get the japanese unit as american unit is easily infected with "dead beef syndrome" back then. Japanese ps2 has the best lens compare to other region's ps2. U can check the region by looking at the numbering such as "SCPH9xxxx". Mine is "SCPH70006" so i'm unsure about the latest 9xxxx series though. Mine come with 1 ori n 1 fake controller. The quality of the fake isnt that bad afterall since i'm using it all the time and is still functional. The latest slim 9xxxx series have the adaptor integrated in the unit itself so u wont get the adaoptor in the package.

PS2 doesn't support HDMI ah?

PS2 doesn't support HDMI ah? The box should have the numbering printed on them, so no doubt u can confirm it by just a glance on it. U should google it yourself on the regional numbering based on latest SCPH9xxxx series since i'm unfamiliar with it. Regarding the picture quality I'm not sure but I heard that it support HD in the movie mode. I dont think it'll be that bad for games too! U should see it yourself if possible. It's too early to judge if u don have any idea on it.

QUOTE(nofx @ Nov 29 2008, 10:00 PM) just wanna to ask..can ps2 play wit pc monitor?? If not mistaken...yes! Just that u might need converter of some sort to connect to your pc monitor. First option is to use the tv box! Never heard of it? Well it's a connection box which can accept the s-video or the normal yellow port for the tv. One end for accepting the tv input and another end for outputting the vid info to the pc through USB. That is external tv box. U can check the back of your pc whether it has the internal tv box already installed or not. If it has the yellow-white-red port then it's already came preloaded. All u have to do is download the DScaler software(if not mistaken) and use it with your pc & ps2! If u still have no idea of what external tv box is, then googled "Hauppauge WinTV"! Another option is to use the converter cable for ps2. The cable is rare and hard-to-find nowadays I believe, and probably isn't cheap as well. The only upside of this is that it connects directly to the monitor instead of the pc.

Anyone has problem with PS2 slim detecting the joystick? I have this problem recently and my PS2 is about 2 years. The console sometimes can't detect my joystick and it will interrupt my game and few seconds after that it could be detected. On and off like that. So I have to plug out and plug back in the joystick. Anyone experienced such problem? What would be the cause? I need to change the joystick?
