QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Mar 25 2011, 05:05 PM) Okokokok, is it worth it, cos thinking between, A53Sv, N53Sv or this 4830TG, really hard to choose one. QUOTE(Ricky Ling @ Mar 25 2011, 05:07 PM) Yup, just saw it only. |

Yeah, the vaio is terrible, because it over heats and makes awful noise like a hair dryer, when you do something more than just web browsing. I exchanged it twice at the sony store. I am desperate of getting rid of it and don't know what to do. |

2gb vram is not important, while 540m is a good middle class gpu, i would say its pretty good for a non gaming laptop like G series, alienware, etc

QUOTE(astria @ Mar 25 2011, 06:09 PM) that's wat Apple has been using since Mactel (i think)... for the quality...its worth the bucks i'd sayit basically allows for more charge cycles than Li-ion, but is more costly as well... makes sense to use it on a laptop with integrated battery... Added on March 25, 2011, 6:10 pm lol, MBP if use plastic also very hot la... |

Actually Acer's profit margin is actually lower compared to Dell or HP. Their notebooks are all came from China, so not much difference on costing lah. Just Acer is more aggressive on pricing...See Dell Inspiron 15R Quad core can be cheaper than Acer 5750G as well

QUOTE(8u8u @ Mar 25 2011, 06:15 PM) a lot of factors play into part. imho, one strategy they are doing better than other competitor is their aggressive (and fast) in producing latest technology to client. i remember reading one article, they OVERBROUGHT Intel Core i series until there is shortage.http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/03...tel.cpu.supply/ So, they roll out new technology fast to get quick cash. Then, they are very careful in production of the system. Unlike other competitors that usually have products ready world-wide. To be able to support that, competitor must build a system in huge number. Acer, on the other hand, very careful in selecting which country has which model. They only produce limited number to support that. Imagine what will happen to 'old' notebook if a competitor produced too many of them? Anyway, I am not working in Acer, this is all just theory. Well, from my experience, I thick plastic laptop is hard to bend, whereas a thin metal laptop is highly bendable.
So I have reservations on the durability of the laptop.(keyboard flex, screen flex) Guess I will be waiting for a thick and heavy laptop. |

Do you think there will be any benefit for the buyer to purchase their unit from the event? Example like extra warranty?

Well, I've seen bad experience Acer users, including me. 2 top model, 1 normal range. All of their mobo no last longer than 3 yrs. What do u say about quality? U think of it with ur brain.

this spec seems quite powerful, correct me if i'm wrong. i am planning to replace my aged xps m1330. seems on paper, this acer can run crysis2. how is the quality built? i have develped a trauma towards acer cause in the last 10 years, 3 of my acer laptops could survive a 5 month span. got fed up with acer actually.

LOL, life cycle is usually applicable to organisms?
Anyway, Sept is still very, very far away in terms of technological "date" hehe There'll be way better models that time, you wouldn't want this one anymore |

hahahhaha, i usually refer people to as 'ekor' and animal as 'orang'. i have problems with my penjodoh bilangan, for the purpose of humour. well, seems that i have to hope that the better model is value for money too. i cant seem to decide on which model is the correct candidate to replace my xps m1330.

You can always count on Acer, Asus, Dell and Lenovo to come up with good laptops at cheap prices
I really feel that Dell shouldn't have stopped the production of the XPS13.... its really a looker |

recently i find (in my personal taste), asus and lenovo have no style or flair in their laptop design. dell on the other hand, cant beat the price of acer and acer provides more performance than dell. haishhh, so hard to decide nowadays.
true, i still love the design of my xps, and it was hard for me to accept that this machine is old. crysis 2 runs like only 20fps. |

I tink we should open a 3830/4830 club in Notebook Specific Discussion.
So that we can discuss more details about the timeline X inside the club.. & provide the shop that offered best price in the future. Can @cowithgun open a new club there??^^ Since previous timeline X opened by you.. |

Feels solid, especially the main body although the hinges for the screen seem a bit weak almost wobbly - i gave the notebook a shake while open when nobody was looking. I can only hope they're stronger than they look given how thin the lid is.
I've only had experience with a chiclet keyboard on a cheap msi notebook and my G73jh - the latter being quite a bit better - however in reviews some had said that the G73's keyboard has some flex and yet i haven't experienced any so i suppose i'm a light typer. In this regard the acer's keys seemed slightly less "jumpy" compared to the G73 (the responsiveness of the G73's keyboard really makes it a pleasure to type on) but that could just be my imagination or some asus bias forcing that perception in my subconscious. The smaller direction keys dont bother me since i game with the WASD buttons anyway although i had wished they weren't offset Didn't really get to run anything on it so i cant talk about heat issues etc. It's really compact though so i expect heat to be it's achilles heal. Just as long as the heat doesn't annoy my hands while typing and doesn't affect the battery negatively it should be ok but if it does either of those i will be rather unsatisfied. The built in battery is neither here nor there to me but removable would have been better |

I can only hope they're stronger than they look given how thin the lid is. Well, several reviews did critic the G73's keyboard because of its stiffness and sponginess I've only had experience with a chiclet keyboard on a cheap msi notebook and my G73jh - the latter being quite a bit better - however in reviews some had said that the G73's keyboard has some flex and yet i haven't experienced any so i suppose i'm a light typer. The built in battery is neither here nor there to me but removable would have been better Imho, its not really easy to find a good chiclet keyboard offering good typing feel even though alot of laptops have chiclet keyboard nowadays Tried the Apple keyboard, not very impressed, typing accuracy is good, but not much feel (not to mention it gets dirty really, really fast), Toshiba's keyboard is better Anyway, the heat will definitely affect the built-in battery.... Acer put PDF file for W500, Iconia DS & TimelineX 4830TG, so I upload for u guy viewing. Acer claims up to 4 years lifespan of battery - just like Apple
Seem like the file is too big to attach (2.4MB only) - so here is the direct link Download PDF link |

QUOTE(Star_knight79 @ Mar 26 2011, 01:56 PM) Well, I've seen bad experience Acer users, including me. 2 top model, 1 normal range. All of their mobo no last longer than 3 yrs. What do u say about quality? U think of it with ur brain. Depend on your luck also. My Acer served 4-5 years and the recent problem i encountered was the battery which i replaced last year. Now my wife is using the laptop without any problem. If i'm not mistaken, my sis's laptop (Acer) still in good condition after 3 years +. But my HP dv3000 is having motherboard and LCD issues after 2 years. Total cost of reparation should be around RM1k. Should stick with Acer. Zzz |

So far, what is the best GPU for laptops?
Wish to buy a laptop which can cope the latest game with at least mid range graphic setting for the next 2 years. Currently I'm playing L4D2 with low graphic graphic setting and CSS with mid graphic setting. |

Anything with 3dmark06 6000-7000 and above score will do, lappy resolution is always mostly 1366x768 so won't obsolete as fast desktop GPU. My last HP and Compaq notebook [forgot the model] only last less than 2 years of usage before it died, numerous problem, LCD, motherboard. Nice photos. Wish you took some more photos of it and the promoters hehe How was the quality? Is it the same as the old one or stronger? I saw a video earlier at work, so without sound, it didnt look good at all. it looked so loose. |

Went to Lowyat this afternoon, but unfortunately the 4830TG display unit had been taken away after the launching. TIP from the promoter: It seems that the 4830TG may go on sale in the coming PC Fair at KLCC (15th - 17th April).
Barca96, only two promoters with heavy makeup were seen... you didn't miss anything Tested the Iconia. If you will be typing A LOT, Iconia may not be a good buy. It's like typing on my ipad! BUT if you're into multimedia, video, pictures, touchscreen, futuristic coolness, etc, it's really worth it. I'm really impressed with it. No one there can be certain about the battery life though. The Iconia Tab is nothing to brag about. The screen is just average. not at all impressed. |

However 4830TG almost meet all the criteria such as performance, price, design and battery life for a laptop, and now with the island style keyboard which makes it really comfortable to type(for me). Only thing that is not so good might be the speaker and maybe for some who are fussy the screen panel.

Had the chance to touch and feel the new TimelineX 4830TG at lowyat plaza today
Man the laptop really looks good~ Below are some of the photos I took (again, sorry for poor photo quality): » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « As shown in the brochure, I'm pleased to say that the laptop really looks splendid in reality~ » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Keyboard & Palmrest. The keyboard buttons are really good, a very big improvement from the previous styling. Typing feel is good and accurate, love the slightly tight keyboard feedback I wonder why the "\" and "Enter" buttons are fused together, it sorts of ruin the whole design. Similar to most of Acer's keyboards, the Arrow keys are abit too small for my taste, people with larger fingers may have problems during gaming LOL » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Placement of ports. Heat vent's on the left side. On idle mode its not hot at all but I din't have the chance to test how hot it can become. The VGA port and the ethernet port would be better if they're placed at the back of the laptop, or at least placed at the back portions of the sides... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Managed to test the speakers of both the TimelineX 4830TG and Asus A43Sv... at 100% volume, the sound is average only. And I'm not sure whether its me but the sound seems to be louder on the right speaker » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Front part of the laptop. Looks like a SD card reader. No idea about the others |

Yo guys, just wondering how does the Nvidia 's GT540M stacks up against AMD's HD6630?
As the Dell Vostro3450 (i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2617) seemed like a formidable competitor Comes with 6-cell battery, not sure whether its integrated or not |

So i've received "Murphy", as i've dubbed it for very apparent aesthetic reasons, and will hopefully be posting a brief review soon. Just been rather busy with university giving me the run around and assembling my necessary course material.
Please dont expect one of those fancy reviews usually posted on forums the world-over. Thanks |

QUOTE(barca96 @ Apr 5 2011, 10:26 AM) Murphy? Murphy because the colour-scheme of steel, blue-steel and black along with it's sharp-ish edges remind me of Robocop. As yet i've only been able to test NFS Shift 2 on it. With everything set to high except aliasing on normal and shadows on medium and at 720P Resolution the FPS tends to hover around 26-30. Keyboard is exactly as it felt on the demo model. Good enough but not as smooth as the one on my G73. When doing anything that doesnt tax the CPU or GPU the computer is completely silent and the air coming from the side-vent even feels cool. Play games though and you've got your own personal heater although it doesnt blow too loudly at least. Barely audible in actual fact or i might just be deaf. Not one much for benchmarking software - prefer actual in game performance figures - so i'll be testing out more games and report back when i can. What is that? I hope you mean Acer 4830 hehe. I am patiently waiting for a review. Can you imagine, I just bought a 4820. But I kept it in the box cause I wanna check out 4830 first. If it's really good then I want to sell it off to get the new one Apparently i was the first one to get this PC in central KL. The shipment only had 40 in the container. I'm suitably chuffed if true |

Yea, love the design as well... looks very un-Acer-rish
The only setback would be the built-in battery and the creaky palm rest |

finally reach home , congrats mudster!
uploading some potential poisons , hold on First Impressions - Its slim and beutiful, almost too slim - The blue is better looking in person intead on screen or pics - build quality seem good enuf, the "loosey" hinges that i saw in youtube is totally gone! thanks lord almighty! Windows Scores CPU Added on April 6, 2011, 8:24 pmI am now typing from the 4830TG . And im loving the keyboard, its kinda remind me of my Vaio Sr55 but a tad bit firmer which i like very much. 1 thing tho, the |\ button is kinda shared with ENTER , altho no problem so far but i think i might accidentally push \ instead of ENTER. hmm all in all keyboard look good n feel amazing. The mousepad is also good, then again my vaio sr55 pad was not so good so 4830 feel nicer , buttons also feel firm instead of mushy. overall mouse pad is good for me here comes the not so good part. yep notice it now after trying various angle. the display! its bright but seem kinda washed out. maybe there setting for it but the way im looking right now it seem too bright n adjusting the contrast wont do. well it still looking brilliant but white ( like background) seem overly bright. And the panel is fingerprint magnet n feel rather cheapish.. glossy but yea, kinda like cheap plastics Listening to some music now n i am pleasantly surprise with the speakers! its load n clear with a hint of bass, totally eliminating the reason for me to buy somekinda external usb speakers. I love the loudness of the 'professionally tuned" dolby home theater speakers lol the is this button in fron of the 4830 showing batt logo that i dont know of. will check that later with batt review. charge it too 100 just now n at 86% it shows 7 hours 53 minutes left.. Overall , im preety much satisfied with Acer offerings in the 4830TG. smooth sailing thus far. so what u waiting for? get ur nao! This post has been edited by Revamperz: Apr 6 2011, 08:24 PM |

Added on April 7, 2011, 1:47 amthe power management is confusing the hell out of me now, there is those normal selection of "power saver", "balance" and "performance" selecting these 3 will give out difrent battery estimation but theres more, a dedicated 'P' button for PowerSmart . While these on the display dim n battery estimation get abnormally long! eg im now at 76% and on batt , the estimation is over 6 hours wah.. how to test batt setting under all these conditions? or they any software or batt testing? Installed beyond good & evil. The graphics is slightly glitchy. it can run on the intel hd3000 smoothly. Tried to run it on nvidia must be manually added to list of programs (maybe because it's old?). Gonna try different settings later...
Still need an online connection after this to install steam... |

Hello,
I found this thread looking for info about the 4830TG, thanks for all the info and pictures. I've got an important question to ask, how come it's such a good price in Malaysia?! I'm in the UK and we always get shafted for price, but I was wondering are laptops usually cheaper in Malaysia than other countries? According to XE, 2,499.00 MYR = 505.964 GBP, that's still £60 or so cheaper than a used/returned 1st generation 4820TG with worse specs all around on amazon.co.uk. I think a poster above posted an advert for Singapore but the prices seem to be much higher there as well... Thing is I'm probably going to visit a friend in Indonesia in a few months and was thinking of stopping off in Singapore to look for a laptop. If I can get a 4830TG for 2399RM or thereabouts I think I'll be stopping off in KL instead, the flights usually cost about the same. Do you guys thing this price is going to last? Is this price normal in Malaysia? Thanks! |

If u gonna drop by here in sunny malaysia for the 4830tg, somehow do contact acer malaysia for stock availability first, as its newly media launched n no ready stock easily available for purchase. The set im owning was the only 1 at the acer shop at my area, so thats how scarce it is, at least for now. Anyhoo, good luck and yea, in these part of forum community its save to say that u are now, poisoned |

so, since it has a built in battery, does the acer supercare extended warranty covers the battery? i noe for a fact dat, for the 1st year, adapater n battery are always covered by acer. since 4830tg has a built in one, n is no replaceable, kinda worried about dat. battery degrades rather quickly due to limited charging cycles.

hey guys, I read through this whole thread and kena poison kao kao. then I saw the 4830TG in real life and didn't quite like the design ): besides my budget is only around 2.3k, planning to buy a good cooler sumore, so a bit pain la. i dont really need the kick ass graphics card also. i'd rather go for additional RAM.
anyway, i was browsing at digital mall just now and i came across the acer aspire 4750G. would you guys recommend that model? i kinda like the design and the keyboard. specs were ideal as per what i'm looking for but i need to go back and double check again...was looking around here but cant find anything on that model. help! ): |

30 minutes = 10% discharge. If 100% = 6 hours.
So, looks like 6.5 hours on a single charge... Maybe more if you turn off wifi. I started watching music video while waiting, so might have drained a bit more. Also checked viewing angle. From left and right, maybe about 120-150 degrees. But from top and bottom, maybe only about 45 degree angle can see... |
