whats the rated battery life for 4830tg can we get avg 5 hrs with half display brightness in power saving mode? then i can take this to uni everyday

Had the chance to touch and feel the new TimelineX 4830TG at lowyat plaza today 
Man the laptop really looks good~

As shown in the brochure, I'm pleased to say that the laptop really looks splendid in reality~


Keyboard & Palmrest. The keyboard buttons are really good, a very big improvement from the previous styling. Typing feel is good and accurate, love the slightly tight keyboard feedback 
I wonder why the "\" and "Enter" buttons are fused together, it sorts of ruin the whole design. Similar to most of Acer's keyboards, the Arrow keys are abit too small for my taste, people with larger fingers may have problems during gaming LOL    Very slight to almost non-existent flexes on the keyboard  But the center portion of the palm rest (around the touchpad) creaks loudly when pressure is applied, which is rather unwelcomed 


Placement of ports. Heat vent's on the left side. On idle mode its not hot at all but I din't have the chance to test how hot it can become. The VGA port and the ethernet port would be better if they're placed at the back of the laptop, or at least placed at the back portions of the sides...


Managed to test the speakers of both the TimelineX 4830TG and Asus A43Sv... at 100% volume, the sound is average only. And I'm not sure whether its me but the sound seems to be louder on the right speaker  Manage to test a Toshiba NB520 netbook as well, the harman/kardon speakers are louder and clearer than both the 4830TG and A43Sv, I've to admit I'm a bit surprised 


Front part of the laptop. Looks like a SD card reader. No idea about the others  and you can probably see that the touchpad buttons seemed unsymmetrical 

Butthurt ka bang. Janganlah. Penang market and ppl if selling at rrp 2499, who is going to buy? Here diff from kl market. 2400 is without free gift. Hikari also offer rm2400.

And im loving the keyboard, its kinda remind me of my Vaio Sr55 but a tad bit firmer which i like very much. 1 thing tho, the |\ button is kinda shared with ENTER , altho no problem so far but i think i might accidentally push \ instead of ENTER. hmm all in all keyboard look good n feel amazing.

The mousepad is also good, then again my vaio sr55 pad was not so good so 4830 feel nicer , buttons also feel firm instead of mushy. overall mouse pad is good for me

here comes the not so good part. yep notice it now after trying various angle. the display! its bright but seem kinda washed out. maybe there setting for it but the way im looking right now it seem too bright n adjusting the contrast wont do. well it still looking brilliant but white ( like background) seem overly bright. And the panel is fingerprint magnet n feel rather cheapish.. glossy but yea, kinda like cheap plastics

Listening to some music now n i am pleasantly surprise with the speakers! its load n clear with a hint of bass, totally eliminating the reason for me to buy somekinda external usb speakers. I love the loudness of the 'professionally tuned" dolby home theater speakers lol

the is this button in fron of the 4830 showing batt logo that i dont know of. will check that later with batt review. charge it too 100 just now n at 86% it shows 7 hours 53 minutes left.. lets see if that archivable lol

Overall , im preety much satisfied with Acer offerings in the 4830TG. smooth sailing thus far. so what u waiting for? get ur nao!

anyhoo, i am now in love with the mousepad! realized now that the pad is kinda wide n the scrolling works everytime i attemp to do scrolling. normally i hate pads bcoz scrolling works 50% of the time. not with 4830TG's.. works perfect!

Normal surfing and HWmonitor only. It ranges from 6.2 to around 10

n bear in mind in this mode the display is dim to barely visible with all aero turn off ( my bet its the PowerSmart doings), i was on a dark room its still usable.

I found this thread looking for info about the 4830TG, thanks for all the info and pictures.

I've got an important question to ask, how come it's such a good price in Malaysia?!

I'm in the UK and we always get shafted for price, but I was wondering are laptops usually cheaper in Malaysia than other countries?
According to XE, 2,499.00 MYR = 505.964 GBP, that's still £60 or so cheaper than a used/returned 1st generation 4820TG with worse specs all around on amazon.co.uk. 

I think a poster above posted an advert for Singapore but the prices seem to be much higher there as well...

Thing is I'm probably going to visit a friend in Indonesia in a few months and was thinking of stopping off in Singapore to look for a laptop. If I can get a 4830TG for 2399RM or thereabouts I think I'll be stopping off in KL instead, the flights usually cost about the same.

Do you guys thing this price is going to last? Is this price normal in Malaysia?

Yeah it would suck if I turned up with only a couple of days to find it and no stock anywhere. I won't be flying out until late May early June though so hopefully there'll be plenty of stock by then.

Poisoned? Never heard that one before, but I guess it fits! I really want any laptop right now because my desktop I'm using is SO bad. The 4830TG at Malaysian prices seems by far the best spec for money right now, just don' know if I can wait till June... Also it will be a pain to transfer all my current data from my desktop to the Acer... I can't take my desktop to Malaysia too! (I won't be back in the UK for a while).

Bit disappointed about the non-removable battery. I thought it was internal but removable with a screwdriver which wouldn't be a problem, but if you have to send it back to Acer to get a replacement...

Also I was wondering does it have sleep in charge for usb devices? That's quite handy for the travelling ipod user who doesn't want to buy another adapter.

I've never really worried about heat in my laptops, I'm guessing that's because I've never had anything particularly powerful and in the UK it's never that hot. I imagine it must be a lot more important if you going to use the computer in Malaysia without airconditioning...

actually the rm198 addition is good for additional 2 years local warranty. at least that what i been told

so with that purchase, u'll get 1 year international + 2 years local warranty

Thanks for the advice, 3 year international warranty would be really nice for 198RM (£40?), but don't know if it's worth it for me if it's a local warranty although I might be traveling to and from SE Asia quite regularly in the future.

I had a quick thought, I haven't bought a laptop in a long time and I wondered what the localisation is like these days? What I mean is, is there anything about the system that is localised for Malaysia and that would be a negative for a user from the UK?

The International warranty is only effective when your length of stay is not more than 3 months in a foreign country.
