In terms of mega-pixels, these 2 bodies can do rather same quality images, and differs in terms of AF-system, a faster continuous burst, improved control over auto-ISO, and so on. Mainly u can obtain from the website, but bear in mind that some of the information can be misleading.

Planning for a 2nd hand DSLR? Why not save more for a new one? With RM2k you can get a new Nikon D3100 or Canon EOS 1000D only. Can provide more specifications?

Those are what separates the 60D from the 550D, but do potential buyers really need those features? Most of them who are clueless about DSLR as such, will just go " Waaaa Canon 60D is the latest camera, i should get it!" or " 60D looks good! I'll get it" . Just like that.

Like i mentioned earlier before, if you need those nifty features offered by a 60D over a 550D, then get it. If not, why even bother? A 550D will do it's job excellently also.Not talking about subjects which require fast AF lock on or excellent AI servo performance whatsoever..

Then again, some might just prefer the bigger body of the 60D. The grip is bigger, meatier and nicer to hold especially for those with bigger hands. A bigger body would be able to balance heavier lenses better also, due to the extra weight.

Difference between 550D&60D body is roughly around RM800.Is it that worth it? That is what buyers should think about

Actually I have LX5 and D3100 both in mind, but cant make up my mind. Hows the image quality between these two both in low-lights and under normal lighting conditions...I have read tons of reviews and all of them are very positive, seen the images as well. I know its quite hard to compare apple and oranges since the 2 are in different league. I find the LX5 images to be very good for its price RM 1.6k while D3100 will probably shine with good and expensive lens.
Need some advice before buying.

Get the D3100 Good image quality, good ISO performance and you also get FULL HD video recording but there's no motor in the body so you have to pair it with a AF-S lens to get AF( correct me if i'm wrong)

around rm800, i think its worth it. but if one dont need all the other features that the 60D can offer, then the 550D is the way to go.

you've forgotten the articulating screen, that's one feature i can't live without now.

Canon EOS 1000D will do extremely fine. Limited budget?

With your budget, why not Canon EOS 550D? Low light scenes you need wide aperture lens. Like 50mm f/1.8. Don't know what's aperture? Refer here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture

Yes D3100 with kit lens 18-55mm, and yes for 2nd hand D80 with lens. Search in Garage Sales -> Cameras & Photography -> Digital SLRs & Lenses. There is a lot of sellers.

Canon EOS 550D, Nikon D90. Afford the best while you can if you're serious into photography. Any SLR and kit lens will do a good job for portrait and landscape. Oh I almost forgot, a nifty-fifty (50mm f/1.8) is is your great workhorse. Cheap yet producing sharp images.

what "filter" u wanted ?
probably fine with kit lens , the get a flashgun XD

550D is a nice choice , should be below rm3k for the kit , just not sure for the filter u needed ..... if UV filter i think cheapo one as protection / dun use at all (degrading IQ)...
as those original hoya is rm100+ (if it is cheaper high possibility it is fake) , so may go over budget ....

as for memory card .... try to opt for sandisk lor

since u doing landscape , probably should nego for a tripod too (cheap / expensive lil different as u are still beginner ) .... if u can't , u will wan to put it in the list too

most of the time the camera will be doin Portrait shoot, just occasionally will do shoot landscape.

I'm not too sure about the model you mentioned, how about a nice IXUS 1000HS? It's a compact with manual functions and a nice f/2.0 lens- Good in low light

You could probably get a LX3 or S90, but need to to up a few hundred $$ for the latest LX5/S95 All these four cameras has f/2.0 lenses , which means it's much better in low light than other PnS.You get less blur due to extra stops in shutter speed Plus, their ISO performance is top notch for their class

60D IS a better camera than the 550D, specifications and price wise Just like an Inspira is a better car than a Wira

60D is positioned as "mid range" whereas 550D is below at "Entry" level

hye there guys, im upgrading my camera soon. im choosing either the 7D and the 5D mark 2. well i have watch videos such as this one (below), and others, and also i've read some articles about both cameras. its kinda hard for me to choose either. im hoping that any of u guys could help me decide or atleast convince me on anything. well, u may ask, wut type of photography - almost about everything, the streets, some events (birthday parties, gatherings, my fishing trips ),and i love taking pics at night (low light conditions). so maybe any of u guys can help me? thanks

7D is the mini machine gun with superior AF performance while the 5D mark 2 is the low light monster, with Full frame goodness( better detail,colours, dynamic range, orgasmic ISO performance, shallower DOF,etc)

I'd definitely choose the 5D mark 2 if I don't do any sports shooting or anything that requires such a good AF performance. The 5D mark 2 is one hell of a camera especially with that FF sensor and that 21mp, you'll be getting awesome portraiture,scenery,street photograph,etc shots. Just that people are complaining of the AF performance..

You didn't mention sports did you? I'm guessing you're leaning more towards the 5D2 eh

thanks alot bro for ur replies. yes man, i didnt state any sports init cuz im not doing any.

honestly, i was stuck with the 7D the first time. and i was very keen to buy it. but 2 days ago, i told my uncle, who's a wedding photographer (and he's using the 40D), that im buying a 7D, he said "that's a great camera, but why not 5D mark 2?". that's when i snapped and i started askin him more questions on wut camera i should buy now. he ask me back, "wut do u really want, and wut type of photography u're intrested in?". so i told him this and that, and he told me to get a 5D mark 2. so im kinda blur right now. bcuz im all the way to 7D, (and about to make a purchase really soon) and here comes the older brother 5D which is a superior camera as well.

i watch videos and yeah, they said that the 7D's new AF system with 19 AF points is no joke. its superb and fast. but wut u said is super-right as well, im doing pics of mostly no movement things (maybe the streets are considered movable things ey? ). so i might not need the super fast AF. but who knows right? and could u explain more about the AF probs? i read this in some uk forums as well. one of the forumers are having some probs to focus in low light condition. is this bad?

With 3k, I doubt you can get everything LOL~

A flashgun cost bout 1k+, decent quality one like 580ExII or sb900. Unless you intend 2 get Nissin, which is cheaper, there is still no way to squeeze everything into your budget.

Try Sony A33/A55 twin kit. It comes with kit n telephoto lens around around 2.5k for A33, 2.7k for A55. 500 bucks is decent enough to get a flash from sony, though not the top end one.

It took bout 5k+ from me last time go get everything for my photography hobby. Therefore, limited budget can get you limited things only. Save up more to get better things later.

Well, if you insist so, 60D would be better but its outta your budget.
550D is around your budget though.

If you don't mind me saying, a dslr is a tool 4 the photographer 2 use. Choose the one you think you will like.
But I believe that Sony is better 4 your budget range.

Same with A55. Same specs, only it use optical viewfinder instead of the newer EVF used in A55.

Both perform rather decently for their price, but A55 kinda tempts me more because of the specs sheet.

Used both A580 n A55 b4. Like both of em pretty fairly.

A55 has GPS also btw.

D3100 no AF motor. Means auto-focus relies on lens alone. Lens with AF built-in is not cheap lol.
Its decent, but not worth the $$ for me. If nikon, I'm recommending D90 and above only cause they have built in AF-motor.

A33 has AF motor + image stabilization inside body.

Hard to say which is good and which is bad. But for me, I rather go A33 than D3100.

reason i wan 2 buy d3100 for the guide mode as i'm still a newbie..

I reco you take kit and find the suitable lens for you before spending more.

550D has better noise reduction than the 500D. The Auto Focusing speed should be faster as well. Also has a slightly better LCD screen. The FPS is also a tad faster.
However the main improvement comes it its video functions.
Better 1080p recording + external mic input.

is electronic viewfinder in a33 any good??

Each got their own pros and cons. I would say pick the one which catches your first sight! However, I don't mind about 18-200 weight, but it's price performance - RM2300 is truly I prefer kit lens 18-55mm and a monster portraiture lens like Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM

hmmm. everybody around me was using canon when i bought sony and i didnt feel lonely at all. maybe it just applies to some who succumbs to peer pressure easily.

how are u going to take pics without a lens? unless u already have a few.budget tight then save first only buy lo, unless you are using it to find bread n butter.
