Recommendations of what camera to get, are mostly based on user experience or information on what's good or whatnot. There's isn't any scientific evidence to justify what we say.So don't take our word for granted! Do your own homework!:

"Always search for reviews if you have a specific model in mind as the reviews might provide some really useful insight on what to be expected. Sites like dpreview and imaging-resources is a good place to start and they do provide really good in-depth reviews" [quoted from evilhomara89]

In terms of mega-pixels, these 2 bodies can do rather same quality images, and differs in terms of AF-system, a faster continuous burst, improved control over auto-ISO, and so on. Mainly u can obtain from the website, but bear in mind that some of the information can be misleading.

nod.gif

Those are what separates the 60D from the 550D, but do potential buyers really need those features? Most of them who are clueless about DSLR as such, will just go " Waaaa Canon 60D is the latest camera, i should get it!" or " 60D looks good! I'll get it" . Just like that.

Like i mentioned earlier before, if you need those nifty features offered by a 60D over a 550D, then get it. If not, why even bother? A 550D will do it's job excellently also. Not talking about subjects which require fast AF lock on or excellent AI servo performance whatsoever.. biggrin.gif

Then again, some might just prefer the bigger body of the 60D. The grip is bigger, meatier and nicer to hold especially for those with bigger hands. A bigger body would be able to balance heavier lenses better also, due to the extra weight.

Difference between 550D&60D body is roughly around RM800.Is it that worth it? That is what buyers should think about smile.gif

Actually I have LX5 and D3100 both in mind, but cant make up my mind. Hows the image quality between these two both in low-lights and under normal lighting conditions...I have read tons of reviews and all of them are very positive, seen the images as well.

Oh, pardon my noobness. I am a beginner.  notworthy.gif

No fight. A tortoise cannot outrun a rabbit? tongue.gif

Get the D3100 rclxms.gif Good image quality, good ISO performance and you also get FULL HD video recording but there's no motor in the body so you have to pair it with a AF-S lens to get AF( correct me if i'm wrong) biggrin.gif

I'm not too sure about the model you mentioned, how about a nice IXUS 1000HS? It's a compact with manual functions and a nice f/2.0 lens- Good in low light smile.gif

Usage : Low light as well as out doors.
Product in mind : Panasonic LX series / Canon S series. Which one should I go for? Thanks
*
You could probably get a LX3 or S90, but need to to up a few hundred $$ for the latest LX5/S95 smile.gif All these four cameras has f/2.0 lenses , which means it's much better in low light than other PnS.You get less blur due to extra stops in shutter speed smile.gif Plus, their ISO performance is top notch for their class smile.gif

QUOTE(sha10 @ Dec 5 2010, 03:45 PM)

60D IS a better camera than the 550D, specifications and price wise smile.gif Just like an Inspira is a better car than a Wira laugh.gif

60D is positioned as "mid range" whereas 550D is below at "Entry" level smile.gif

Both have it's strengths and weaknesses, but both are extremely capable PnS with manual controls and the f/2.0 lens.

I'd say go and test it out at any camera shop to see which you prefer better. Many people already know which one they want the moment they lay their hands on it smile.gif

hye there guys, im upgrading my camera soon. im choosing either the 7D and the 5D mark 2. well i have watch videos such as this one (below), and others, and also i've read some articles about both cameras. its kinda hard for me to choose either. im hoping that any of u guys could help me decide or atleast convince me on anything. well, u may ask, wut type of photography - almost about everything, the streets, some events (birthday parties, gatherings, my fishing trips tongue.gif),and i love taking pics at night (low light conditions). so maybe any of u guys can help me? thanks smile.gif

oh ya, i forgot to state down something. i own 1 EF-S lens, and 1 EF. the 50mm 1.8 and the 18-200 smile.gif
*
7D is the mini machine gun with superior AF performance while the 5D mark 2 is the low light monster, with Full frame goodness( better detail, colours, dynamic range, orgasmic ISO performance, shallower DOF,etc)

I'd definitely choose the 5D mark 2 if I don't do any sports shooting or anything that requires such a good AF performance. The 5D mark 2 is one hell of a camera especially with that FF sensor and that 21mp, you'll be getting awesome portraiture, scenery, street photograph, etc shots. Just that people are complaining of the AF performance..

You didn't mention sports did you? brows.gif I'm guessing you're leaning more towards the 5D2 eh brows.gif

Try asking 5D mark 2 owners like unker ianho, xlegato, nicotine and pengster in the Canon EOS thread smile.gif

My budget would be max at 4k
Thanks.

Do you know how heavy is that 18-200? lol Definitely wouldn't want that attached with your 550D, hanging around your neck unless you want neck-aches all over.. smile.gif

It's a choice between 3 brands... so pick your choice! I don't dare to comment, nanti Sony fanboys come here whack me biggrin.gif

If still can't decide... see your photography kakis . If mostly Sony, then you choose Sony la.

If your friends all play with Canon, and you pulak go and buy a Sony. Then you'll be lonely la

I am in dilemma. I wanted to start my photography hobby as a beginner. Which brand of camera should i go for? I know nothing about camera. Or should i top up my budget for d3100?? Please advice.
*
Yes you should top up for the D3100.It's a really good camera for such a price, just like the 550D for its price range smile.gif

Just note that, the D3100 has no build in AF motor inside, meaning that when you buy lenses(other than your kit lens) you need to go for AF-S lenses which are lenses that have AF motor build inside. Otherwise, you'll only have Manual Focus smile.gif

Expensive hobby eh biggrin.gif

LX5 vs D3100 is like a Kancil vs a Honda Accord smile.gif

The trouble about getting a DSLR is the investment you have to put in, due to all the lenses, flashgun, accessories as such. You'll know la once you get one smile.gif But all the image quality you get at the end of the day, is always worth while smile.gif

Nikon D3100 FTW! Great little camera, just note about getting only AF-S lenses because D3100 doesn't have a built in AF motor inside. You need to pair it with AF-S lenses to get Auto Focus smile.gif

The lens that comes with the D3100 is an AF-S 18-55,which can Auto Focus with your body smile.gif So it's perfectly fine

Just that any extra lenses that you might wanna get, must be AF-S version for the AF smile.gif

I will say d3100 is better than d5000 in term of feature, therefore try not to go to d5000 unlike you really2 like that filppy2 LCD.

QUOTE
60D for canon - This model is a flippy LCD model for canon. I will say don't go for this one since it is prosummer body yet give that flippy LCD thingy.
I will only make you not to look professional.
How does a DSLR having a filp LCD screen, make one look "less professional"? And what's with the word professional here? People are asking recommendations on what to buy/what's good and NOT what looks pro or not pro doh.gif

QUOTE
If you are pro to canon go for 500D instead of 550D. I usually recommend my friend to go for 500D over 550D.
Since what I see in the feature the only massive difference is its 'MEGA pixels' well I will say in DSLR photography you wouldn't really need MPx as long as it is more than 10- is enough because you wouldn't stretch the picture taken. Unless you have a studio. and yeahhh studio doesn't use entry level DSLR.  cool2.gif
What a very shallow thought. I bet you never used a 18mp camera before? smile.gif Either that or you're seriously lacking the knowledge of such products rolleyes.gif

Dismissing the advantage of megapixels just like that, is such a sweeping generalization doh.gif

I'm using my 550D which offers 18mp, and i CROP a lot. Even after cropping, i still get so much details due to the 18mp that i can enjoy smile.gif And still the 18mp is one of the BIGGEST things, i've enjoyed since buying it.

Let us see what has 550D has install over it's predecessor shall we?

-18mp
-more superior iFCL metering system
- ISO6400 not in expanded mode anymore
-Bigger buttons, easier to press and a dedicated live view button
-FULL HD video with variable framerates like 24p,25p and 30p
-Faster burst rate of 3.7fps
-Able to use the latest SDXC memory cards up to 64GB iinm
-3:2 LCD screen with 1040 dots

QUOTE
Canon is always better than Nikon in movie recording.
But Nikon is better than cannon is photography. Don't believe in me?

Go for youtube and querry:
digitalrev tv D3s vs 1d mark IV
You will find the proof. Sorry I can't post the vid because my office block youtube  rclxub.gif
Oh pleaseeeeeee fanboyism again!

Rules of this forum-------> 1) "Fanboyism" is prohibited. No brand wars here.

Quoting one video from youtube, and then concluding that Nikon is better than Canon, is just no different than me saying that "my phone has the copy and paste function which the iphone doesn't have, therefore my phone is better " doh.gif .

Also, don't you know that D3s has only 12mp while the 1D4 has 16? And also D3s is a FF while the 1D4 is only APS-H(1.3x crop factor). This is already an unfair advantage towards the Nikon, such comparison should never even take place in the first place.

Comparing FF with APS-H? Meh sweat.gif

QUOTE
well if you doesn't have tight budgeting go for
D7000 for nikon - else you can still get d90 (Prosummer body which still working fine) Yeahh.. this one is prosummer body therefore you can use any type of lens even without 'AF-S' unlike that entry level bodies which I mention before (D3000, D3100, D5000)
else
D7000 with the 18-105 is totally out of his budget. Why even mention it?

Well I just giving him a clue there. it's all come back to him whether he want to buy that or no.
What looks good for him might not be for others. A 60D with flippy LCD screen looks "pro" to me, so you're trying to convince me otherwise? for example. smile.gif

QUOTE
Well. I am not sure about that.
However I am pretty sure it is a waste for entry.

Waste to you might be gold to others. I and tons of other Canon 550D owners just love this camera a lot, for the amazing things it can offer. And now you're calling it a waste?

Moreover, I am just telling in natural perspective. not trying to be fanboy. but I am pretty sure of that. you can see the proof yourself.
canon has less noise control over nikon.
depends on the model though.
Again said, there's an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE when one FF model is competing with another non FF model in terms of ISO performance. No fight really

QUOTE
I am giving him the whole idea about entry up to prosummer camera. and I think that is the purpose of this thread.
Personally i won't even mention that, just for the sake of directly answering his question. And if he wants to know more, then probably yes smile.gif

I was talking about the BODY not the lens smile.gif

Of course, 2nd hand lenses are still so favourable these days, because the new ones are pretty expensive. Not so much the same for the bodies though, because they tend to depreciate in price much faster

Personally, i'm not offended at all bro. It's just that i don't like people saying such blatant sweeping generalization like that.

I could always say Nvidia beats ATI *quotes a video from youtube between GTX460 vs HD4670* Apple is better than HTC *quotes a video showing touch screen responsiveness betweent the two models *<----For example's sake

And no, i ain't a fanboy of any brand whatsoever, i know both Nikon and Canon are 2 very good brands and so are others. Each has their OWN advantages and disadvantages, so it's not very WISE to make such sweeping statements right? smile.gif

I don't say things like that and neither do other forumers here. Just to make what i feel clear ? smile.gif
