I receive Public Bank statement that I need to pay SERVICE TAX RM50 for VISA Gold and RM50 for PB Gold Mastercard. But I never activate or use the card before. WTH??!! Trying to call their customer service, but no representative answer really pissing me off.

Tax are charged on cards even though they are not "active" but issued. You would need to cancel the cards to avoid tax.

same case as me, but i only use PBB visa, not MC. never activate/use MC before, but still charged RM50.

april statement comes, charge rm50, call PBB ask to cancel the card & revert back the RM50. but may statement comes, still being charged RM50 + late payment charges, since i thought the card has been cancelled. call CS again, they say they will revert everything. then june, thankfully everything is settled, no more shown on the statement.

Slight correction. Best don't apply for the card if you have no intention to use it to avoid tax.
Generally the tax will be imposed (for new cards) the moment the card is approved. Whether you activate or not is irrelevant.

To those who are unware ....
Please don't treat the GST similar to Annual Fees. Likely you'll get very upset with the bank if they are not helpful. Which in 99% of the time, they will not entertain if you use the excuse of not activating the card.

Wonder why Maybank is so good. I have two Mastercard with Maybank that the later one was the upgrade card from the first card.

I subscribed my first card for auto debit payment to my insurance. I canceled that first card last month in order to save the GST.

Today, I called the insurance co and wanted to ask the procedure to update the new cc.

However, the insurance co told me that Maybank has sent them a letter to inform that the card has been canceled and has been replaced by the 2nd card.

So the auto debit will be in effect using the 2nd Maybank cc... I was shocked.. It sounds so good!

I would like to ask.

Lets say I would like to cancel a credit card, with all the debts being fully paid.

But then I have lost the card as well, would I incur any penalties or do I need to produce the card to the bank in the event of cancellation?

Thanks.

Some banks need but you should try cancelling over the phone. Do it quick as if it is a lost card, someone might abuse it. Correct method is to report a lost card but decline a replacement. But some banks still charge you for it.

signature is fine as long as it looks the same. get more practice before you sign next time.

paywave means you use your cc like touch and go at the terminal. the terminal will need to have a wave sign though.

Depends. Some cashier (especially @ hypermarkets) will confirm your signature against your card. May have a possibility they will reject you if they think your actual and back of the card signature is too suspicious. However, if you use your card overseas ... your risk of getting rejected goes up. It is akin to you should a foreigner wants to use a card @ your shop. You'll do an extra check right ?

Paywave is used for micro payments which is defined as (if I remember correctly) ~ RM120 and below) and you don't need to signature the slip because your card authenticates the transaction upon touching the card @ the terminal. You need to use this feature @ a PayWave terminal and not everywhere has this. (Saying this ... I don't think this initiative took off very well)

Petronas station (and about all other petrol station) does not have this feature.

No need. I used to have both Gold Visa and Shell Gold Visa. One username can access to both cards' e-statement. Even when u want to perform bill payment, there's a column to let u choose which card to use.

I just apply for my Direct Access card, i tried apply for a HSBC but got rejected for unknown reason when all my qualification and so on is good. Except maybe 1 thing, which is my Bank Negara record is too clean because i got no loan and no credit card at all except ptptn.

So i go fed up and applied for direct access card, hoping to make my Bank Negara record to be "got transaction records". Hope can be approved.

Here's 1 thing i am confused, i see some card can made a transaction without installment plan from the retail shop. Then call up the bank and get that particular transaction to become an installment plan. Does CIMB Direct Access card have this feature? If got, how much does they charge the interest or 1 off fees?

Maybe the casher don't know how to operate the paywave terminal.

Pls google 'cimb flexi pay plan' and 'cimb i.Pay Plan'. Both are the installment plans CIMB is offering.
I'm afraid the plans are gonna expire by year end.
