The bank did provide several solutions to me.
Either spend RM2k in 2 months' time OR subscribe to one Autopay service will do. At that time it was impossible for me to fulfill either one condition.

Talking about cancellation of Shell card recently, the bank did not even advise/persuade me, straight away proceed shocking.gif  OK lor, cancel then cancel lor biggrin.gif

I have been using EON credit card since September 2010, still a newbie.

October bill - RM5,000 ++
November bill - RM 630 ++
December bill - haven't come out yet, roughly RM12, 000++

i make payment straight away before the statement even out...

wonder can request for increasement of credit limit or not? or must wait for 6 months? icon_question.gif

If you often swipe nearby your credit limit, I believe the bank will consider.

At least wait for 6 months - 1 year.
Why the rush .. ? And do understand an increase of your CL will also increase your "unsecured loans facility" for your credit profile.

Most probably will affect one's home/auto/personal loan limit.

Yup. I won't be even surprised some banks use this as a loan eligibility yardstick. Different banks practice different risk management policies.

Yeah. It is the difference about needing a guarantor or not for your car loan. Your future housing loan is a different story though lol. On time payment means shit if you're using 80% of your total revolving credit limit.

for what i think, that shell card is pretty much useless card, very low cash rebate given compare to others
and some forumer having difficulty to waive annual fee for the subsequent year

Regardless what benefits the card has? Or any card that doesn't suit your lifestyle as long as RM50 is waived?
I think these are also things you need to consider.

A lot of people here is holding DA card as it is free for life (I think you are eligible as you have PTPTN). But I'm not sure whether they will waive the RM50 GST for first time application or not. I believe someone can answer that.

no need PTPTN also can , now more lax, under Southern Bank it was stricter

Not for me, I've been a Maybank CC owner since 2002 with almost a 6-figure credit limit and 5-figure expenditure every year. They didn't blink when I said I'd like to cancel because I didn't want to pay GST so I cancelled. The gorgeous customer service lady at their 1U branch said management usually doesn't budge when threatened with cancellations and they had no power to do anything about it.

Good luck to you when trying.

something different happened to me.

ok just now at 930 am i called maybank world card services informing them i would like to cancel my card since i've been slapped with RM 50 govt tax (they waived my annual fee). they said they will put this request to relevant officer and will revert by end of the day.

at 230 pm, i received a call from maybank. they offered me 10,000 treatspoints to offset the govt tax. in addition, they offer me MR to waive my amex platinum's govt tax.

Gentlemen

Can we be more careful about using the term "threatening" the banks when it come to the GST subject? Already there has been a reader who want to only apply a card with the GST "waived" or else. And slowly the past few replies have been circling around "threatening" the banks to waive the GST.

IMHO ... I don't think we are setting the right example here in this forum and let's be more responsible for what we say. This thread was originally created to educate reader on good credit card consumer management and definitely not how to arm twist the banks about getting your own way. I have no issues about getting our value for money but to this extent then I don't think it's appropriate anymore.

I agree to above. As for the person who wamted a CC but did not want to pay the RM50 tax, I was like thinking to myself, hey then don't get a CC. The government imposed the RM50 tax for a reason besides getting more income and it has proved that cards in circulation have reduced by 2 million. It will come a time where the banks have to make a stand to absorb the RM50 or not or appeal to the governement to reconsider the GST as this offering of points to offset the GST will not go on forever. The banks can't keep absorbing the RM50 as it will cost them hundred of millions a year.

As for me, I will cancel cards that I am not getting any benefit from it and I don't ask for the RM50 waiver, if the bank offer then I will consider.

good for you. that makes 2 person now who have gotten points from MBB to offset GST. However maybe you should elaborate more on your cards usage MBB so that others may know what was the criteria that MBB took into consideration.

Oh I didn't encounter that. My Shell card was to be charged annual fee prior to GST. The bank agreed to waive without condition. Then before GST comes in, I request to cancel. Reason being GST. The bank didn't say a word and proceed right away.

I concurred with the statement. in fact, if you're a regular user, you can always to get rebate or cashback to outweigh the tax of RM50. if you doesn't want to pay rm50, please use debit card.

getting cc is a credit privilege granted by banks to "lend" you the money for you to use. Banks isn't a charity entities will keep 'waiving' the tax. some examples of user that you heard of getting waiver of govt service tax doesn't mean everyone will get it. Banks will decide on case by case basis to retain user or to attract new user.

agree.

i'm not 'threating' the bank. i just ask them to cancel my card bcoz. what happen next? go search my previous post brows.gif

for NEW applicant, just apply for cc that offers u cash back or cash rebates blush.gif
of coz u need to pay that RM50 first, but since the GST is yearly, so u should be able to cover it by 12 months cash back/rebates.

my experience, use the cards for 3 years AND pay full statement amount each month, if we request to cancel the card, then usually they will ask why.

if they not asking, maybe, maybe, bcoz ur payment history.
even they cancel ur card, but if still have outstanding, they will still earning from the monthly interest + late payment fee after this, and u cant add more debt with them. so good for them.
if u transfer the balance to other bank, the bank will received the money from ur new bank. so they will be happy bcoz u 'clearing' ur outstanding. also good for them.
