any holders want to confirm on this?
whether it's by invitation only or open application?

From my own experience, you can apply for MBB's WMC openly @ selected promotion period/location. For example, I was offered the WMC @ the recent PC Fair when the bank staff saw the card that I am using as reference.

I also remembered that during this year's Maybank's Treats @ MidValley a forummer also reported that the WMC is open for application during that period. So ... I am not exactly sure how to classify the application type coz both also is possible.

@rockefeller

Let's publishing the reference CL required to apply CIMB WMC since it is likely a limited time promo done by the bank. They can pull the plug on this promotion anytime and the application is not exactly 100% guaranteed.

There's still some chance you can get rejected. Many reader here think cc approval is their right but for for that at the end of the day ... you are "applying" for for the card. So rejection does exist.

EON's Visa Signature also entitles to free priority pass membership for limited free lounge visits worldwide  tongue.gif

Limited means ... you are likely to be charged once the free visit are up. I have spoken to the Premier Lounge rep @ LCCT and they have this problem where customers get upset with their bank when they see the charge later. Often they demand the Premier Lounge rep to check their membership status (payable or not) which they are unable to do.

Just this 2 bank didnot offer waive of GST?
*
Hello .... the question is that are you looking for a cc provider who give you lousy service but all freebies or likewise? Seems you are looking for everything to be free from all the questions you posted.

e.g. CIMB got many attractive offers and merchant discounts / OCBC you get rebates which are far worth more than the GST paid. Too bad you are probably won't consider them coz they don't pay for you the GST.

GST somebody has to pay ... please get that right. It is not waiverable in the first place.

That's ridiculous. If they didn't swipe their cards and didn't sign the slip, how could their cards be charged?
*
Allow me to clarify, this refers to Priority Pass holders which are given complimentary by the bank as part of the cc package. Likely they are unaware that they have been given membership only and/or limited entry. (e.g Citibank Signature) When you swipe the Priority Pass card, you can't tell whether you'll be charged or not until much later. The entry charge just appears on your credit card should you use it once your free entry runs out.

Entry using cc are tracked and they will tell you whether the quota is already over or not.

Whatever reply you received from CIMB CS, I second bro MilesAndMore reply on CIMB points expiry.
There are times CS may provide a mistake in their info and this is one of them. There are many CIMB cc user veterans in here. Some even used the card before it is called CIMB. (It was Southern Bank before)

will it effect to my register for credit card? thank you.

Likely yes ... credit card risk management system also check customer's ability (and consistency) to pay their bills. This indicates whether you are a good paymaster or not - if you are not, bank will flag you out coz they don't want themselves to have these kind of customers as well.

Good point. I had thought of this too. But in my case, I didn't max out my SCB JustOne rebates last year. I spend very little. Maybe I don't need OCBC Titanium after all. Don't need to incur another RM50 service tax.
*
There's a possibility that the OCBC Titanium may suffer like JustOne ... read overwhelming response and then no longer open for application. So ... while it is open for application do consider it. That's why a lot of the folks here apply for this card ... including myself though I took longer to decide than usual.

What if he complain to BNM, will they entertain it? Just curious.

The problem is that he replied over the phone receiving the card and did not indicate rejection to CS over the card.
CS call might be recorded and that's the bank's proof.
If you don't want the card ... should have indicated rejection upfront and not after receiving statement and displaying shock over RM50 GCT. (Government card tax)

Just noticed something new. WHile Alliance Bank's Visa exchange rate is through the roof (well covered in this thread and my blog), I found the Mastercard exchange rate to be quite comparable to the other Mastercards and current exchange rate. It is starting to look like a system/programming/policy problem?
*
Perhaps this statement is correct. I noticed my SCB VISA USD rate is comparable to CIMB Mastercard despite the perceived premium of SCB forex rates. I can't compared this apple to apple yet ... will try to do so if there's an opportunity.

The scam involved withdrawing money from SA or CA. The cc part was just to instill fear in the victim to make it sound real and make the scam work.

Actually the government should do something about all these impersonation and impose a serious deterrent penalty (Emm ... perhaps like nothing less than 10 years in prison?) then these scams won't happen.

The cashback offered by Public Bank cards is also not easy to get and not guaranteed.

There is always a condition saying that the total cashback is limited to RMXXXXX, or, limited to the first XXXX eligible cardmembers. Quite a few of my friends who are using PB cards are pissed off when talking about PB rebates.
*
Thanks for highlighting this. The fact that many got so excited about the cashback promo without reading the fine print reflect how poor we are in general when it comes to being careful. The one thing we are good at is to blame the bank when something goes wrong.

Generally the banks in Malaysia are rather transparent when it comes to T&C (it is another thing when customers don't read them) unlike "the red low cost airline" which IMHO ... their adverts are often misleading.

It depends.
If the issuer bank is in vicinity, a cheque deposit costs you only RM0.15 stamp duty. If you don't wish to walk or drive, then IBG/online payment is the best solution. Common IBG charge ranges between RM0.50 and RM2.00, depending on the type of account. Some banks offer zero IBG charge for the first few trxn, some for unlimited trxn, but the T&C of the ZERO CHARGE is not easy to comply.
*
I agree. RM2 may sound like a lot but if you are moving RM5K around it may be a good idea. Moving around in big cities like KL is not easy with the traffic jams, risk of getting your car scratched/accident, etc + coupled with the high cost of fuel + sometimes parking fees + time spent on the road ... RM2 is well justifiable.(Assuming RM2 is the max fee)

I'm not advocating the RM2 to be justified but if one were to consider the many possible cost of travelling around .... the actual cost may be worth more than RM2 itself.

please advise, is it advisable to have 2 cc, a master and a visa?as i'm wondering to cancel HSBC visa or not...to left with just one card...thanks all
*
It depends on you and only you know the answer. If your monthly spending is only a few hundred RM then why do you want to hold 2 cards ?
The old notion of having 2 cards for backup purposes is not very strong anymore these days as generally cc systems are very reliable.

And there's even the OCBC Ti for you to consider which serves as a good all rounder card.

U guys know that CS tells whole diff story... just wanna know the details 1st

They will ask you to provide proof of income and even that is not a guarantee that you will get it.
Always remember all these things are merely "application" or "request" - they have no obligation to say yes to you.

there is some balance of 5k in gold

since its an upgrade, how long will cimb transfer the balance in gold cc to the platinum cc?

asking since i want to Bt the amount to ocbc but not sure can use the cimb gold acc as afraid might be closed since platinum already activated
*
Transfer should happen almost immediately. Use your CIMBClicks to check the balance of your Platinum cc.
Once that RM5k appears then you should be able to do BT to OCBC already. Whatever it is, do not use your Gold cc information to do BT as you could end up doing a lot of work later for the adjustment.

Oh yes .... sorry miss this part.
You can only execute the BT once you receive your statement. All cc providers (not only OCBC) would require the cc statement that you want to BT from.

Fresh grad is advised to apply for DirectAccess Mastercard, as this card is dedicated for graduates and professionals. They are also known to be generous in granting high credit limit.

After getting your very first DirectAccess card, then try to use this card to apply for either OCBC Titanium or SCB Gold/Platinum (if their cash bonus is still valid).
*
Please note you may not use your new card (DA MC) for OCBC TI application until it reaches 1 year.

@eddiez_zz, what is important when using card it is not a tool to accumulate debt. If you are already accumulating debt this way so early in your career then you better don't apply for use. End of the day the card will serve your individual spending pattern ... so no such thing as the best card, best promo thing. We recommend OCBC TI because it save you money (which is a universal measurement) but it is also one of those cards which is not so easy to apply fresh out of school.

The difference is very marginal. If I were you, I'll cancel all and just keep UOB since you are using it actively.
