true... FUP applied ... if exceed throttled to 384kbps which is still fast...
BUT
their capping sometimes abit late.. some ppl got throttled exactly at 5GB... some after 15GB very few didnt got capped at all

average less congested area is 2.2-2.6mbps
more congested area 1.0-1.4mbps

capping is done depending on the area, if tat area hav lots of UM users, it will be capped after u breached the 5GB , if that area dun hav much users, then u wont get cap even u breached the FUP of 5GB.............its location dependent , the more users the faster u get capped

It's actually a similarly or same program but PPLive is a newer version of it and have newer movies compared to PPStream... For PPStream, did u change any settings for it to play smoothly?

who said so? umobile coverage's very poor at johor area. when there is no coverage, it will switch to Celcom roaming with additional charges.
im agree with celcom got widest coverage but also suckiest in term of performance. u know what i mean tongue.gif

note: switch to Celcom for voice & SMS. not other services. Also, since when got extra charges? same voice rate for all users.

umobile's broadband depends exclusively on its OWN 3G network. that's why coverage is limited.

the roaming with Celcom network is to save cost. but ultimately, it benefits more to voice/sms users.

frm what i see, coverage is accurate. only in JB, not other places.

maybe we should keep refreshing the page to see it "grow" doh.gif j/k

my bad, what i actually trying to explain is broadband coverage. not voice and sms. i've heard when we use Celcom when there is no UMobile 3G network, celcom will charges us. correct me if im wrong smile.gif

no hidden/extra charges.

umobile offer same rate to all, whether you are in the 3g network or roaming on celcom.

so, charges in klang valley == charges in kedah, terengganu, kelantan, pahang, etc. smile.gif

Correction there,
Celcom and Um (maxis as well but i forgot. nvm use them b4) are use NAT network. so meaning, everyone is coming out from 1 ip
Diginet is also the same but 3gdgnet is using dynamic ip which a true internet standard. (dynamic ip like screwmyx, everyone gets their own internet ip not some NAT IP)

Umobile broadband Internet uses their own's network but Umobile phone(voice call) uses Celcom's network.
So far Umobile's own mobile network transmission tower only cover Klang Valley->Seremban->Port DIckson and Iphoh city and some part of JohorBahru.
That is why Umobile broadband coverage only cove Klang Valley->Seremban->Port DIckson and Iphoh city and some part of JohorBahru only.
But Umobile phone(voice call) coverage is able to cover whole Malaysia because it uses Celcom's transmission tower
(correct me if i am wrong)

correction: Umobile phone(voice call) uses Celcom's network. when outside of their own 3G network.

e.g. Klang Valley/Seremban/PD/Ipoh/JB = Umobile's own network for Voice, SMS and Broadband

anywhere outside of their coverage = roaming on Celcom network but just Voice/SMS

*Update: Noticed umobile have been quietly expanding in Johor as well thumbup.gif :

port-in oso can.

after port-in, follow the instructions here http://www.u.com.my/u-broadband/getting-started

*make sure prepaid credit is enough to purchase the plans.

if dont want port-in, get a new prepaid pack and follow same instruction.

this usually involves plugging a usb dongle to another 3g router and share thru lan or wifi

Heres the test condition, the usb dongle is connected to 3g router that's fan cooled & UPS backed located at the windows & facing "I believe" Umobile's tower(MY18@fullbar). It gonna be a long wait ><

wireless broadband has many factors involved. any hsdpa modem would do for umobile broadband cuz they only support max 3.6mbps.

getting a super modem wont help the speed. it is all about location and traffic (and all other stuffs)

actually speedtest is not that reliable. although im getting 'superb result' on speedtest, but the real speed can be seen when u download something. the highest download speed i've got so far is 400kbps++. never reach 500-600kbps as speedtest shows wink.gif

if u buy prepaid from their centre at timesquare, they will register immediately and ready for use in around 5-10minutes (if they do that right away).

then u just need to topup enough to subscribe any plans (rm6 to rm68).

I just paid RM68 few day ago since they stated "unlimited", I'm RS premium user too, the download speed quiet satisfied...

but today... suck!! they limited my bandwidth to 512kbps!!!!

What the point i paid so much as stated in what they offer?? This is ridiculous!!!! Will never never use UMobile again!!!!

read post #1 about what the "unlimited" means. technically, it is 5GB with FUP. But users are getting 15-20GB quota before the throttling kicks in.

no service is truly unlimited. try using digi/maxis/celcom/p1wimax. all got FUP.

For those who throttled, you might want to give a call to 1318. They can confirm whether you are throttled or area congested. If you are using MDMA supported modem, you can see the assigned profile. Throttled is 384kbps.

why bother with wireless broadband if u want truly unlimited? STREAMYX is the right choice for you. there is no wireless broadband provider that provide unlimited quota. clearly u dont really read T&C before subscribe. good luck mate rclxms.gif

Yes it already stated that you will be charged RM0.01 per kb. So you will always need to check your balance.

[FAQ #9] UB6, UB10, UB20, and UB40: After reached quota, charges is PAYU rate = RM0.01/KB. Speed remains the same.

[FAQ #7] UB68: FUP kicks in at 5GB but no extra charges if you keep using it (aka "unlimited"). However, speed during FUP will be throttled to 384kbps.

This is a slight misconception, U Mobile runs its own network. Right now, for broadband, it serve with its own network.

For Voice/SMS, if outside U Mobile coverage, U Mobile has agreement with Celcom (Domestic Roaming), or sooner DiGi.

no different in speed.

postpaid
- has bill
- monthly

prepaid
- no bill
- 30 days period
- had to topup with denomination RM30 on time due to to extend the prepaid validity

I think that is?

try prepaid if unsure.

not expensive at all. RM8 for the prepaid pack. comes with RM5 airtime. topup RM30+RM30+RM5 then you can subscribe UB68 highest broadband speed.

try it for 1 month. if not satisfy, no need to topup again smile.gif

Does it mean that we have to topup RM30+RM30+RM5 within 1 month in order to be eligible to subscribe to the UM68 plan?

no, u have to have at least RM68 credit to subscribe UB68 plan.

since topup denomination is only RM5, RM10, and RM30, the combination you need to topup is 30+30+5 = 65. new prepaid pack has RM5 credit, so 65+5=70, just enough to subscribe UB68.

each subscription (ub68) valid for 30 days.

MDMA is designed for huawei modems. e1762 works beautifullly.

FYI: New Mobile Partner UTPS16.001.06.01.500 for all Huawei modem dongle.

Features: Multilanguage, USSD, Voice, MMS, and other plugins. Latest Huawei driver version 3.09.03 for all Windows system.

Flasher and dashboard tested working great on E1762 biggrin.gif

QUOTE
Flasher: http://bit.ly/MP_16 (Rapidshare)

If you are not comfortable flashing the modem, use the standalone dashboard software instead: http://www.mediafire.com/?jh812c9pb7zsh6a

p/s: The Connection History feature is nice. It tracks all your broadband connection data, including Streamyx (if the dashboard is loaded b4 connection is initiated). Not so sure if the data is accurate sweat.gif

user posted image

Added on Best feature: Integration into Windows 7's Network & Sharing Center

Obviously, the signal bar calculation is different than Mobile Partner's.

p/s: I have an integrated LAN connected to adsl modem. Mobile broadband dialling always fail (for me). Not sure if it's something to do with the the driver or my Win7 sweat.gif Connecting via Mobile Connect works fine.

Tried all methods, disable firewall, tweaking dns servers/gateway, everything fails.

If I remove the LAN cable (from adsl modem), dialing works fine for the mobile broadband.

havent tried 1day plan, but it could be 24hrs cycle for the validity period.

that means your plan will expire on 21/8/2010 1am.

if doubt, check the FAQ from the website or call CS to find out.

becuz u need to register and fill up a form in Umobile's counter compare to buying conveniently available starter pack.

prepaid is best for short-term use. no need to go around registering and canceling stuff. while postpaid is best for ppl that are going to use UM bb for the long run, just pay the bill and dont need to remember the validity and stuff

RM48/mth 1.5GB
if want more save... just suspend your account by calling the CS. maxis wont charge you during suspension period for max 3month then need to reconnect back with a RM10 reconnection charge

How do I confirm whether my speed has been throttled or not because because I'm pretty sure I've used up all my 5GB quota shakehead.gif

user posted image

I made the assumption that I've used up all my quota because there was once I got 0.38Mbps from the speedtest result.

yeah, it's all depend on location. less user mean less traffic, so quota can be higher than actual.

btw, just resubscribe mine yesterday. and guess what? i'm so relieved i've got uncapped speed unlike previous months wink.gif
dont need to call their CS again for FOURTH times sweat.gif

speeds are becoming less faster than usual. maybe i'm over-advertise umobile in here, meaning more users using this broadband, no? tongue.gif

maybe becuz it a sunday... I notice a pattern in Umobile's network...

I use it at my home so during working hours, UM fast. maybe cuz no one at home. but at night till daylight comes, UM is so so only... and during weekends, also so so only....

i also wondering how Umobile determine and cap their users. I surely have passed way beyond their limit within a week... but i still remain uncap

yeah, that applicable to other broadbands too. weekend=user spend their time at home=network congested smile.gif
but still, UM can give me decent speed even in weekend. this cant be practiced to other network as they got pretty much users. so lets enjoy the speed while we can rclxms.gif

about the cap, im not really sure how they cap users. it seems they very generous when it comes to quota. i've read somewhere in um website, u actually can call customer service to give u more quota after urs been capped. still up to their consideration whether to give u 'extra quota', though tongue.gif

@acat , yeah, night time and weekend will be quite congested at the logical point of view. More broadband users are subscribing wireless broadband because it is not so complex setup like fix line. @cruxidex , thanks for the information.

I always getting the 'same IP is in used' whenever try to download from common file sharing sites sad.gif

the best part using umobile broadband (ub68 plan): Official FUP at 5GB but in real-life usage, 10-11GB before throttling kicks in.

so, RM68/mth = 10-11GB = RM6.1-RM6.8 per GB <<< affordable!

@cocooh
Usage is unlimited, quota b4 cap is 5GB pratically but in reality maybe 10-15GB b4 the capping kicks in
unlimited is define as unlimited usage without being blocked from using but FUP / capping still can be apply.
It is called unlimited cuz it still allow you to surf the internet but at a lower speed only.

My current contract with digi just expired. Am happy with digi but this new u promotion is pretty tempting as it's so cheap. And i read that u's bb is pretty fast. How is the speeds during peak time? probably around 8-12pm. Is the u bb stable? even though digi only has 700kbps average, it's quite stable and that is what makes me wanna stay with digi.

Um 's speed fluctuate greatly depending on time and day. In my area (PJ), usually during working hours I can get 1-2.5mbps after offices hours i get anywhere btw 0.5 to 1.5mbps. I find Um connection to be most unstable after midnights for some reason, maybe maintenance or watnot... Idk. I personally find Digi having a more stable connection... thanks to it higher upload speed whereas Umobile has only a 0.05mbps UL which slow down website request and increases loading time if u are loading a lot of things. For light suffer, Um is just fine if u are using within the coverage.

anyone aware bout the new package that umobile launched? not so new la. just revised the old package

on u40 after exceed data capped additional data usage will be charged. not sure they capped the monthly until wht. if im not mistaken around rm160 or sumtin

and u68 will be unlimited wif no extra charges if exceeded monthly quota

there it goes my plan to subscribe u40 on my prepaid with a huge expectations to leech the umobile bandwidth to d max tongue.gif

2 things u need to ensure the modem works ANY service providers:

1) modem MUST be unlocked. if locked, your modem wont work on ANY OTHER service providers except the one you subscribed with.

2) create a new profile with the correct network settings for umobile broadband.

user posted image
Credit: vious7 at http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1367324

if your current dashboard is setup to DiGi, using umobile wont work at all (cant authenticate).

what most ppl do is to create different profile for different providers. Reason? see table above.

btw, CSL works on umobile -------- http://www.u.com.my/faqs/3g-modem-configurations or http://www.u.com.my/sites/default/files/UB...fig_CSLU1tf.pdf

actually it is the SAME plans as before. just throw in the modem and distribute the rebates for the RM68+100 across 5 months (so the monthly payable is lowered, but you already paid upfront in the first place).

ub40/ub68 data usage, capping, and charges after exceeding quota remains the same too.

About Usage FAQ #1: http://www.u.com.my/faqs/u-broadband-general

all plans with quota will have charges of rm0.01/kb (PAYU - Pay As You Use) rate AFTER you have used up all the quota. Maximum chargeable is RM176 per month.

ub68 is "unlimited" = no extra charges after reaching the FUP quota, BUT speed will be throttled.

if want to be safe, use ub68. ppl here are sucking more than the FUP (5GB) to about 10-20GB.

Its Postpaid plan, with printed bill, UB68 has no bill shock. I reckon prepaid is harder to this kind of promotion. Just signup that promotion via selected service centre and selected partners.

no luck, I got throttled mad.gif on day 2 after exceeding 5GB, i am sandwiched by Colleges, ie Sunway, metropolitan, inti. i might get 10-20GB if i stay for another month. any trick icon_question.gif ? is a 3g router a must?
pls advise. thanks.

I subscribed yesterday for U68 plan, noticed that my area has HSDPA coverage but my speed was less than 512kbps. Not sure why, but when I do speedtest, there was a sudden burst before limiting to 512kbps. Am I being throttled? As far as I'm concerned, I downloaded 400mb worth of data yesterday.

u can use MDMA to check the speed profile assigned to you.

user posted image

if ur profile is the same, probably bad traffic.

how about the speedtest now? still 512kbps?

1) download it here: http://www.nerve.org.za/

2) no setting is necessary as it uses the standard dialup connection.

3) once connected, u can find the profile speed.

note: throttled speed will show Downlink: 384.00

Hmm I tried running the application but it gave me an error "Unable to open COM port, mobile data device possibly in use by another application." I'm using the given ZTE modem and currently connected via ZTE User Interface that comes together with the device.

That works, I was able to get the application running but somehow the assigned profile is showing me nothing.

Current speedtest is showing me 0.44 Mbps, the meter is running in between 0.44 and 0.45, it's like there's a speedcut installed sweat.gif

cant be cuz there is no data passing thru MDMA to register the usage (based on your screenshot).

try redo everything.

disconnect, close mdma, unplug modem -> plug modem back, open mdma and dial again

i read in the website that UMobile does not have any contract for its broadband package.

if i take their U68 postpaid package, what i have to pay is RM100 (activation fee) and RM68 (1 month advanced payment).
And, i would get a free usb modem.

my questions:-

1. What model is the usb modem provided?
2. IF im not satisfied with the service and decided to cancel my subscription after 1-2months. Do i have to return the usb modem or can i keep it?
3. Can i use their usb modem with other provider or is it locked only with Umobile?

thanks

this very weird, if you reach Sunway SC, speedtest with their SIM and your SIM card

Bring your modem, just in case

if really miscap, don't angry, request them to speed up the correct speed.

Yeah, just went to service center to check today.

They told me they never encountered such problem before and were very curious with my problem. In the end they admitted it's their internal network system that is limiting my speed. I haven't breached the 5GB quota yet. They mentioned to me they will check with the networking side and revert back to me as soon as possible. cry.gif

I must say U mobile customer service has been quite effective and fast in solving my problem. Just yesterday I lodged a case with them and today I receive a call from their agent asking me to test the speed and whether the internet is fast.

Frankly speaking, I'm quite impressed with the speed U Mobile can get with USB modem. Previously I was using Wiggy (Also USB modem) but only gets around 0.2 - 0.4 Mbps when using indoor. I'm posting this at a local restaurant around Kuchai Lama Entrepreneurs Park and this is my speedtest:

last 2years when u mobile launch, i signed up and took the package that come with free modem..rm78/month..the contract is 2years..the speed was blazing fast..even i can laugh at those streamyx users paying extra for slower and problematic connection..i can download all i want with no capping..after 2 years, they ask me to close the old account and make a new one to continue with rm68 package..but the drawback is, after 5gb, i got cap..damn.. yawn.gif

Speed is of course, no match for P1. P1 performs better, but as you know lah, how P1 these days, so I just get UBB for backup. smile.gif

ucom sucks big time, after you get capped the speed is only 30 - 40 kb, I have heard that dige has 128 kb, is that true?
*
umobile's capped speed is 384kb/s ~ 48kB/s (stable and consistent and quite usable)

digi is 128kb/s ~ 16kB/s (stable, consistent, and almost unusable to use)

so which one you prefer?

It's best to go back to the center where you sign up, bring your laptop and do a side to side comparison with the demo unit available there. I tried calling the CS but they have no idea as they would tell me it's very dependent on the area I'm using it from.

Don't blame the CS as they only have access to very limited information to solve the problem. Kindly revert back to UBB center. smile.gif

If on Prepaid, should be? U Mobile should let this happen, more money for them

Off-topic: Hmm, wondering 2x capped speed (768kbps) is viable for them, will definitely give a edge to capping standard here.

yes..after u reach about 5gb, ur speed will be throttled down to 384kbps..still very nice if u use alone..but for me, since i share my connection with others, better use streamyx..now going to unsubscibe u mobile and go for streamyx..i like u mobile..very easy..no need wiring,no need call for technician to solve problem,cheaper,faster..i've been using umobile for more than 2 years..

U Mobile’s first Radio Base Station supports 42 Mbps

QUOTE
U Mobile and Ericsson are announcing U Mobile’s first Radio Base Station site.

It will support the 42 Mbps Mobile Broadband service in Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.  It uses Dual-Carrier HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) connections for sending and receiving wireless data with two channels at download speeds of up to 42Mbps. U Mobile will then deploy the service to other areas within Klang Valley in few weeks time.

“With the roll out of this new technology, U Mobile will be the first service provider in Malaysia to begin the deployment of a commercial Mobile Broadband service capable of delivering speeds of up to 42 Mbps using HSPA+. U Mobile’s subscribers will soon be able to enjoy superior mobile broadband service that offers high download speed and fast response time with the use of HSPA+ capable USB modem” said Dr Kaizad Heerjee, Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile Sdn Bhd.

“Besides that, users can experience ease of files transfer and streaming of high quality video to mobile devices and laptop, among others” added Dr Kaizad.

Krishnakumar Guda, President of Ericsson Malaysia said: “With Malaysian users becoming more internet savvy, the demand for faster speed and low latency continues to grow. In order to meet this increased demand, High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology makes it possible to deliver mobile broadband services faster and more cost-effectively. Ericsson is very pleased to be the technology partner with U Mobile as they take this next step to enhance their network and launch the fastest mobile network in Malaysia.”

one of the way to check the coverage is by using a 3g/3.5g hp..go to ur setting, select network selection, change to manual and ur phone will start scanning ur area until all the reachable signals been displayed, then select my18(u mobile network is named as my18)..then u can see on ur phone how strong the signal is..-this is for a typical phone only..your phone method might be different..

its not my speedtest actually... i just browse thru the result page for ip .199
then i saw this one.. i wonder is this the one?
there are 3 speed test a few minutes apart getting the same speed range.. so i doubt its just a speed boost due to cache or something blink.gif

yeah, hmm, depends on "flexi-reload" availability, if got, can reload RM63 laugh.gif
some only have 50+10+5 denomination, so the validity is 150 days (calculated based on maximum reload which is in this case RM50)

all prepaid comes with RM5 preloaded credit brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif

3x topup validity is for your prepaid itself. umobile has only introduced this recently.

http://www.u.com.my/prepaid-packages/rates-and-validity

UB68 1-month validity is for the broadband plan only.

so, after 1 month of broadband, your prepaid will still be active for longer period.

maxis introduced HSPA, also got cap in their plans. digi claimed their network 14.4mbps also got cap.

so, for now, umobile's network at BTS is 42Mbps ready. and soon to other locations as well (based on the press release).

let's wait until umobile offer the plans only then we can debate.

Sunway area is well covered (note: There's official umobile service center in Sunway Pyramid)

if u're worried, get the prepaid first.

Added on October 1, 2010, 8:00 ambtw, the prepaid can be used for voice/sms too. if you dont use much, just topup enough to subscribe the broadband plan.

1 prepaid pack = 2 full functions biggrin.gif

Hi, would like to ask a few question here, planning to get the UB68 plan..

Does the broadband cater for those living in higher than 10 floors?
Cuz I'm on the 12th.

If I'm not satisfied and which to terminate it, any fees involved? What about the modem? Return it or keep it?

Since its a monthly bill, how do I pay it? Do I need to bring all the way to the Service Center to pay?

And finally would like to ask all U-Broadband user, how's the service and connection for u? Satisfied? Stable? Is it crawling at peak hours?
~ cuz I don't see much(or any) complain here from U-Broadband users, its either very few are using or it is really satisfying.

sunway is exceptionally good.

if have doubt, get the normal prepaid started pack (RM8 per pack with RM5 preloaded), then topup enough for the broadband plans available.

http://www.u.com.my/broadband/plans

suggest to get the UB68 plan for maximum speed. try it for a month and gauge the average speed at your area.

if not satisfied, no frill. use it for sms/calls wink.gif the rates are now quite affordable.

But the promotion is only for the Postpaid plan, not for the prepaid plan..
The prepaid plan don't include free modem, I don't have modem for the sim card so I'll most probably go str8 for UB68 postpaid promotion.
However since there's no trial period, if I decide to get it I'd need to stick to it no matter poor speed or else I won't get back my RM100 registration via the 5 months RM20 monthly rebate.

How about the 12 floors issue? Will it affect me if I stay high up at 12 floor?

correct, if you dont have a modem, get the promotion instead.

RM100 for the modem is quite affordable too.

there is no contract (except the 1st 5 months).

How bout y'all user's experience? Is it possible? Cuz I don't require high speed, stable speed around 512kbps is sufficient..

Just want to confirm:

1. If no U mobile coverage in my area, the service provider will auto change to Celcom? (cause I live in Shah Alam) No extra charges for postpaid and prepaid right?

2. U Prepaid Plan validity issue:
-Top up RM100 at Jan 1, balance validity: 300 days
If I top up RM100 the next day Jan 2, balance validity: 299+300=599?

3. The balance of the money can use for deduct the data service and not only for voice call/sms?

4. The 18 cent per min for U prepaid plan end at December 31, 2010?

Thanks in advance for anyone that answer my question

1) roaming is automated. there is no extra charges. better set your phone to "Auto" in the network setting.

2) the validity thingy is overlapping (not cumulative). Jan 1: RM100 topup gets 300 days. Jan 2: RM100 topup gives you just 1 extra day.

note: if i am not mistaken, if your subsequent topup gives you lesser validity days than the first, you dont get anything. e.g. Jan 1: RM100 topup gets 300 days. Jan 2: RM50 topup suppose to give you 150 days but you wont get it because (1) it is lesser than the 300 days you gotten already and (2) no cumulative validity.

3) yes, the credit balance can be used for both data and voice/sms. but remember to subscribe the broadband plans before you use data. else, the data rate is expensive (10sen/KB).

4) 18 sen/min is the new standard prepaid rate. the promotion U3G rate (12 sen/min) ends at Dec 31, 2010 for calls originate in umobile's 3G network (KV, Ipoh, Seremban, and JB) with 3G phone.

examples:

(a) KL ----> Penang (12 sen/min)
(b) KL ----> Kota Bahru (12 sen/min)
( c) KL (but 2G phone) ----> Gombak (18 sen/min)
(d) Raub (2G or 3G phone) ----> KL (18 sen/min)
(e) Penang (2G or 3G phone) ---> JB (18 sen/min)

Note:
( c) even if you make a call in KL, you use a 2G phone, which means you are not fully in 3G network but forced to roam on Celcom.
(d) & (e) calls from Raub and Penang is not entitled for U3G rate because those are not within umobile's 3G network.

the U3G rate (12 sen/min) is more beneficial if most of the time you are in umobile's 3G network and using 3G phone.

else, standard rates apply (18 sen/min)

u mean register what? prepaid itself?

if prepaid, it wud be faster from service centre. if from dealers, may be longer as they have to submit the registration form back to umobile to activate.

broadband subscription is almost instantaneous (just be sure to wait for the SMS confirmation).

service centre is always faster.

from dealers, they need to submit the registration form to umobile. so will be slower.

i think postpaid broadband (like the Free Modem promo now they are having) is activated quite fast if done from svc centre.

find the svc centres here: http://u.com.my/service-centres

this is today speed test i say this one is ok, isalso use maxis but at anytime i prefer Umobile as it consistent and has good reception. Maxis u have to wait at wee hours 2am-7am to get a good connection i mean 0.5Mb/s above.

yup confirm... now they are giving free modem
ZTE MF180
- HSPA modem 3.6mbps max download speed only

celcom now giving
ZTE MF190 - HSPA 7.2mbps max download speed
&
HUAWEI E173 - HSPA 7.2mbps max download speed

Thanks for the feedback.

Since UB68 users get download speeds betw 1-2 MB/s, I was wondering how fast can UB40 download speeds go?

ub68 has speed up to 3.6mbps. it is achievable. look at my speedtests.

it is all depends on your location and the health of the network traffic.

great speed: 2.7-3.6mbps
good speed: 1.5-2.7mbps
average speed: 1-1.5mbps
poor or capped speed: 384-1mbps.

in my case, i get between good-great speed.

UB40 has a max 1.0mbps speed.

that is why i always encourage first time user to try (at least) UB68 to get the max speed of 3.6mbps. then observe the speed he/she get at their usual locations (home or work).

if you get ub40, you will not know whether your locations can serve higher than 1.0mbps.

42mbps is the max network speed.

on most cases, users hardly get that high.

remember, you need to take in 3 factors:

1) network speed (now already 42mbps)
2) device speed (most affordable modems now offers 7.2mbps. havent seen 14.4/21/42mbps devices in the mass market, yet)
3) location speed (only now at BTS has 42mbps)

remember digi last time shouting about their 14.4mbps? it is achievable and not even offerred in their sub-RM100 plans?

same thing.

Thanks for the poison. Considering UB40 because I already have Streamyx at home. This is for my use during weekends at shopping centres/etc.

this is today speed test i say this one is ok, isalso use maxis but at anytime i prefer Umobile as it consistent and has good reception. Maxis u have to wait at wee hours 2am-7am to get a good connection i mean 0.5Mb/s above.

right now Maxis speed it just a puny 0.18Mb/s mad.gif  compared to u mobile 1.55Mb/s. Not to badmouth Maxis (Maxis can go as high as 5.78Mb/s blush.gif  at other area i use) but here Umobile is my core internet connection. Result is a proof.

great news for ipad & iphone users..
U MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS CAN NOW ENJOY THE MICRO-SIM CARD

Kuala Lumpur, 6 October 2010 – U Mobile subscribers who own iPhone and iPad 3G can now get U Mobile standard Sim card converted to the Micro-Sim size.

They can do so by visiting any of U Mobile service centres nationwide and U Mobile customer service will be able to assist. Conversion to the Micro-Sim is free.

The Micro-Sim is specially developed for use in new releases of smart devices. Measuring at 15mm in width and 12mm in height, it is physically smaller in size compared to standard SIM card. The electrical contacts and circuitry of a Micro-Sim are identical to that of a standard SIM card.

“Looking at the current trend of smart devices development, U Mobile recognizes the need to provide the products and services which are compatible with the latest devices to enhance the user experience,” said Dr Kaizad Heerjee, CEO of U Mobile Sdn Bhd.

The Micro-Sim can be used with both Mobile Data and Broadband plans. Customers can sign up for U Broadband plans which are available from as low as RM6 per day to RM68 per month.

In September, U Mobile launched a special promotion offered for U Broadband plans (only available in Klang Valley) that start from as low as RM20 per month for data allowance of 2GB. During the promotional period, which ends 31st October 2010, a FREE modem will be given to subscribers who sign up for UB40 and UB68 with no contract attached. This gives subscribers the freedom of choice without being tied down to long term contracts.

Hi. I am confused. Is prepaid actual prepaid? So no yearly contract? I need easy access for 3 months max. Can I just apply for the UB68 plan for 1 to max 3 months?

I can't see a limit with this plan on the website; is there or is there not a download limit? I read something about 5GB. With my video (video editing) I will reach this amount perhaps a bit too fast smile.gif...

Hope to get some valuable input. Any store/point at Midvalley perhaps?

prepaid = prepaid = prepaid

all broadband plans are tagged onto the main prepaid plan

best of both worlds.

FUP is officially 5GB. but effective FUP is around 10GB.

FUP = speed throttle to 384kbps. no extra charges.

shirley_andy, get the normal prepaid and topup enough to subscribe the plan.

if you are not satisfied with the performance, dont have to topup again. simple.

of course the 1st time "investment" is RM8 (prepaid pack) + ~RM70 (a little more than RM68 to subscribe the maximum speed/plan.

so, it is still sub-RM100 to try first.

Agreed.

I actually wanted to test out the speed at my home area and I got the prepaid pack (RM8 with RM5 credit value). I top up another RM15 so I could subscribe to the prepaid U20 plan.

It turned out really good at my place and once this is finished (only 300mb data volume), I'm gonna subscribe the U40 plan to see if 2gb is enough for me. If it is, then it's just gonna be U40 instead of U68 (unlimited). biggrin.gif

My dad has an extra USB modem for me to use. Luckily it wasn't a locked modem.

You can always get the USB modem from any computer shop though. I don't think it should be that expensive. Should be less than RM150.

u cant actually "stop" any activities when connected.

most apps will try to check the Internet access for variety of purposes (e.g. antivirus to update definition, etc.)

only total disconnection is recommended if you dont want any traffic utilitizing your data quota.

I unlocked MaxisBB Huawei Modem, slot in the RM8 U-mobile simcard, tried to see the coverage in my area. 98% HSPDA.

Maxis gave me GPRS or HSPDA 0%. Damnit!

I'mma changing telcos!

hi cybpsych...

May i ask u how do we reset the digi dashboard to use the Digi modem (Huawei E230) to access Umobile?? coz i read yr response on pg 13 as follows:

if your current dashboard is setup to DiGi, using umobile wont work at all (cant authenticate).

what most ppl do is to create different profile for different providers. Reason? see table above.

To be more specific, can i use the existing Digi dashboard to create a new profile for Umobile, or do i need to install a new software (ie mobile partner) to create a new profile for Umobile..

Tqvm for yr reply.. smile.gif

try the digi dashboard with a new profile for umobile broadband. it should work (i've tested it before).

since i hate the digi branding tongue.gif , i use a generic mobile partner dashboard instead with all profiles (digi, maxis, umobile) biggrin.gif

It should work provided if you unlock the 3g modem, regardless of dashboard. CMIIW.

Eh guys, say if I buy my own modem, and I have the Umobile SIM now.

Can I pay RM68 to topup to the sim for the broadband and use straight?

Or still need to pay the activation fee?

No need to pay activation, I assume it is a prepaid? If prepaid, can subscribe via *118#, not too sure or postpaid, give a call to 1318

Hi,

Yea I bought the prepaid. Gonna return Maxis and buy a 3G modem and topup my prepaid then. biggrin.gif

... and I'm not sure which promo you're referring to, but RM100 upfront, 7 days swap back if not satisfactory, no other payment till next month, free modem.

Added on October 20, 2010, 9:39 amJust realised, UB68 after FUP is 384kbps? Hmm. Better than nothing still. XD
