QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 18 2010, 07:04 AM) that's what i did Hi,tried digi, maxis/hotlink, p1 wimax, and umobile. finally decided umobile has the best consistent performance (at my home and office). will nvr try celcom until they give a better speed at an affordable price. Where is your area? I'm planning to get U mobile sim and see if I can 3g signal in my room or not. (I can't get it with maxis.) QUOTE Ya each provider uses different base towers.. however I think all have trial period for u to return in case ur signal not good except for u broadband.. Really? Hmm. Thanks for the input. -- BTW, anyone so happen to be in Wangsa Maju (Taman Desa Setapak or the similar) and using U Mobile? |

I unlocked MaxisBB Huawei Modem, slot in the RM8 U-mobile simcard, tried to see the coverage in my area. 98% HSPDA.
Maxis gave me GPRS or HSPDA 0%. Damnit! I'mma changing telcos! |

It should work provided if you unlock the 3g modem, regardless of dashboard. CMIIW.

Eh guys, say if I buy my own modem, and I have the Umobile SIM now.
Can I pay RM68 to topup to the sim for the broadband and use straight? Or still need to pay the activation fee? |

No need to pay activation, I assume it is a prepaid? If prepaid, can subscribe via *118#, not too sure or postpaid, give a call to 1318 Yeah. Does Maxis still run this promo? Yea I bought the prepaid. Gonna return Maxis and buy a 3G modem and topup my prepaid then. ... and I'm not sure which promo you're referring to, but RM100 upfront, 7 days swap back if not satisfactory, no other payment till next month, free modem. Added on October 20, 2010, 9:39 amJust realised, UB68 after FUP is 384kbps? Hmm. Better than nothing still. XD This post has been edited by eXPeri3nc3: Oct 20 2010, 09:39 AM |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 24 2010, 05:53 AM) the promo (RM20/mth) consists of 2 plans: UB40 and UB68 (existing plans) Is it true to say that the modem costs RM100 if you take the one with modem package?it's just a clever marketing for users to pay only RM20/mth across 5 months. ![]() in short, if you need a modem, get the promo. else, normal broadband subscription will be good. |

Then what about the modem itself after 6 months does it belong to you or you will have to return it? I don't think I see it in the site maybe I should check the TnC @ the site mmm

QUOTE(digilife @ Oct 26 2010, 09:32 AM) Are you sure? Anyway, anyone know if you're using UBroadband Prepaid can you generate monthly bill statements? And actually what's the difference between prepaid/postpaid for the HSPDA 3G Modem? I know I read all the TnCs and went @@ cos there's like for handphone and laptop ones as well |

Oh nice thanks. =D-- So if any kind soul can help me figuring the below out as well? Anyone know if you're using UBroadband Prepaid can you generate monthly bill statements? QUOTE(digilife @ Oct 26 2010, 09:37 AM) QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 26 2010, 09:38 AM) so basically the modem is yours immediately after signup. Hey thanks guys for the prompt reply. I'm really contemplating hard cos:(handphone image) prepaid = prepaid voice plan + ubroadband tag-on postpaid = postpaid voice plan + ubroadband tag-on laptop (image) = ubrandband data-only (no voice call functionality)
So hard to choose --- saw your edit QUOTE (handphone image) prepaid = prepaid voice plan + ubroadband tag-on <-- prepaid credit must be enough to subscribe each plan postpaid = postpaid voice plan + ubroadband tag-on <-- each plan's price will be calculated together with voice during bill cycle (voice + data) laptop (image) = ubroadband data-only (no voice call functionality) <-- similar to postpaid but without voice. u will get the monthly bills for data-usage prepaid/postpaid + ubroadband can be used on 3G modem too, but i think it's more targeted for mobile devices usage (phone). laptop data-only sim is more of full-time broadband using 3G modem (for those who dont need voice plans). So for the laptop sim must get specifically from UMobile? Cos I Asked the shop in my area they only have the prepaid. =X So my 018 SIM no use already if I can't generate monthly bills lol. QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 26 2010, 09:54 AM) eXPeri3nc3, do you have any existing modem? Nope the one I tried was using Maxis's that I unlocked. XDif yes, use your existing Umobile prepaid and purchase UB68 plan. Test it for a month or two. dont think there is bill for ubroadband/prepaid But returned it already. 2nd hand modems don't come too cheap too. QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 26 2010, 10:00 AM) Ohh I see thanks. |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 26 2010, 01:08 PM) get the maxis e1762 modem from this seller: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1367324 Woo nice. But I found a cheaper one for RM90 without shipping. But that one can't receive calls and everything I guess.RM108 per unit only. What's the use of it anyway, I mean does anyone use their BB cards to receive calls? Anyway thanks for the link appreciate it |

QUOTE(shyuanshyuan @ Oct 28 2010, 01:31 AM) I am using Umobile since 1 month ago because of its mobile internet.. i think its not bad bcoz they concentrate on their 3G service.. and i am subscribing for the second month with UB20 for rm20 average speed.. maxis 100mb is RM18 and slow..compare them..maxis is really ****.. overcharged many of its customers with the mobile internet subscription.. i am one of the victims.. =/ umobile for me is quite good.. ^^ Can you elaborate on the overcharged issue? As I'm aware of Maxis one isn't too far off UMobile's rates. I know Celcom is the stupid one with the rates. |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Oct 30 2010, 06:17 PM) "hsdpa" is just the network capability. For the bold text it's impossible I just bought 2 hours ago just started using it 15mins ago performance is subjective to location, time of usage, and traffic (and many other factors). if you consistently getting 30kbps (day/night across many days), better to call CS to find out why the poor performance. only they can help to investigate and find out what's wrong. unless you have already hit the quota But will check throughout these few days and see. Thanks |
