my main gaming headphone.... Audio Technica A500. awesome cans with WIIIIIIDDEEE soundstage and awesome sound positioning. i can know exactly where the enemy is when i hear their footsteps thumbup.gif this is connected to an Audigy 2 ZS and without amp. pic is with the cans and stock pleather pads.... the A500 pleather pads has now been replaced with pure leather pads... the leather pads actually helped in improving the bass of the headphones and helped to give more body to the sound... if one day im itchy ill do the Blue-Tak mod to the headphones...

Would the audio quality difference between gaming headsets and audiophile headsets be noticeable? I noticed that AT has some 'phones priced similar to gaming headphones, and i can do without the built-in mic. I'd prefer something that makes games sound good, not optimized for footsteps and gunshots or stuff like that.

I think it is because 5hv2 and icemat siberia is specified for counter strike. So these headsets perform the best for that game.

And yeah i tried my AT on the soundcard. It is just excellent for me. biggrin.gif

@sniper, ur headset side design really almost the same as icemat. shocking.gif laugh.gif

hmm
not trying to argue,
how can you said audiophile cans cant compare with gaming headsets , yet all cans using 2 drivers.
so can I compare beyer mmx300 "gaming" cans with 5hv2 ? if you don't mind the price keke....

seriously , doing a headphone review is hard.
you need an amp , at least a decent one even theres no need amp to drive (e.g ATH-A series ).
A decent DAC ,
well , x-fi sound cards all are crap , how can i describe it , internal dac made the sound stage been "sealed" in a box.

That is the transmitter for headset, hardly feel 7.1 coz i don had such high end movie yet. But it cant use normal cable need use Optic fiber to connect between PC n Transmitter.

As i know, inside headset got few small speaker to make it 7.1. rclxms.gif

fps games demands the most from a headset and its needed to determine where the shot is fired from or the sound of footsteps. so basically clarity of sound and good directional audio is a must.

mostly its similar with only subtle differences....

but most noticeable difference was the bass was stronger and tighter...

bought it at about RM100 from bluetin.com....a fellow forumer went to singapore and helped me buy them while he was there.

take note...that ur still gonna sweat with the leather pads...typical of closed headphones.

is that less than 300 or more than 300??? i get confused with the symbols people use here...

to me <300 is less than 300 and >300 is greater than 300.... thats coz my SPSS syntax uses it that way wink.gif

if more than 300 then Audio Technica A500 for about RM 400 from walabies...if less than 300 than the Audio Technica M30 for about RM220 from akabane.

the AudioTechnica ATH Pro5 V as suggested by kerryking should be a good one oso

I'm bought a Steelseries 5hv2 a few weeks back from SG. It was so comfortable that I dont realise that i'm wearing a headphone even for hours of gaming & the best part is that it doesnt make ur ears sweat.

I bought the headphone along with Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty pro series(what a mouth full). A huge improvement from my standard headphone and onboard MB sound card. The sound positioning is excellence which allows u to tell the position of ur targets

SteelSeries 5hv2 is a really good headphone especially where comfort is very important if u are gaming for long hours. I recommend this headphone to any1.

Comfort score : 10/10

btw, I have a big head, most of the motorcycle helmet in the market cannot fix me. So if ur head is smaller than mine, I bet it will be even more comfortable.

Since budget is more than rm300, should go for audio technica a500 around rm420 like madman said. If less than rm300, can try out siberia. The sound quality is ok ok only.

nowhere...

even if u do find...the prices will most likely be double of the prices u get here on LYN. just like the shop in wangsa maju or something like that

anyway...u can get from walabies... his partner, yuheng stays in sunway. so order from yuheng or walabies and COD with yuheng in sunway.

you may or may not be able to audition them...that depends on whether or not yuheng has a test unit on hand.

best bet is of course to drop yuheng or walabies a PM

u mean if THIS ONE??

i kinda doubt it...its a DJ headphone and DJ headphones tend to be more bassy... though im not too sure about soundstage and positioning.

the M30 i mentioned is a monitoring headphone.so accuracy and details should be the emphasis of the monitoring headphones...

my A500 after changing to the A1000 leather pads had more body to the sound. bass was a lil tighter and punchier oso.

but difference is minimal. some people might not even notice.

best u could do is read reviews....and judge for urself from there.

and try to audition them if u cant. but if cannot then u have to purchase based on blind faith tongue.gif

or ask at the audiophile section or in head-fi.org. mebbe some owners can give u feedback

Hurt? As in the ear cups or what? The ear cups is 'XXL ear caps' so it will be super comfortable. Bro why not get Creative Fatal1ty?

ur asking about an audio product....this is simple basic logic. common sense.

so ask urself...which is better...

a company specializing in gaming mouses (which has a reputation of bad QC and build quality) or a a company specializing in audio and is highly regarded among audio enthusiasts?

Hmm... I've tried my SS 5H v2 usb with and without the sound card; and WITH the sound card the sound is more powerful. But there are headphones out there that can trump the 5H only with the 3.5 mm jack.

why is siberia neckband is more expensive than siberia full-size? someone told me that it is because neckband has a built-in sound card while full-size doesn't. is it true?

Guys I'm planning on getting the G35 logitech headset.
I'm wondering would i need to get a sound card with my PC (buying a new one) in order to get the best out of my headset?
Or would the soundcard in the motherboard be fine?
If so, which USB Soundcard would i need to get?
Please advise, not very knowledgeable in this field.

Onboard soundcards arent good as stand alone sound card. G35? At Rm499, u can get Audio Technica A500. People dont label this headphone as gaming headphone, but personally think its better than gaming headphone around. Try ask madman, he owns one. So far I only seen few USB soundcard, like Steelseries one. For me it is useless.

hmm for some reason, i think we shud try to refrain ourselves from discussing audiophile headphones in gaming headphones thread. doh.gif
yes, the audiophile headphones pawn so-called gaming headphones all the way, but when it comes to pure gaming, these 'gaming' headphone has an advantage solely on virtual surround sound. smile.gif

I'm also keen to hear the "virtual surround sound".
Hehe... get BeyerDynamic Gamezone headphone if want to serious + pure gaming. smile.gif
That one is the real surround which the decoder cost thousands.
I'm also into pure gaming nowadays, but I decided from purchasing megalodon to ath-A900.

Now I plan on going above 1 step. Any to recommend?
I wish to improve the music power and gaming biggrin.gif

M series are mostly monitoring headphones....

although some have said they do quite well for gaming.

but the A series are still the preferred ones as theyre closed so u get isolation....and the soundstage on the A series can even kick some open headphones' ass.

lets just say that for gaming (and i mean gaming only)...

my A500 + A2ZS can almost rival my DT990+FubarII+HeadAmp in termss of soundstage

almost. the DT990 still spanks the A500 though.

but for a mid-range closed can to be able to get close to a flagship open can like the DT990 id say its pretty damn good already.

I did for Logitech and I got very different reviews blink.gif One says the cans are comfortable the other says otherwise. However it seems pretty huge and nice to me.

Actually I'm currently using Sennheiser PC30 but the cans are really small and hurt my ears after prolonged usage. I wish to get a really big and comfortable one that is also decent for gaming.

Anyway, what makes 'gaming' headsets stand out? isit better than audiophile headphones like AudioTechnica within the same price range?

Avoid if u have a decent budget. So far for budget rm300, a lot of people using siberia. The new design of siberia not bad and using a better ear pad isnt? Some audiophile headphones might not really suitable for gaming.

i test out philips shp2700 and stun by it smile.gif beat my ATH a500 doh.gif (mine with onboard audio)

they suitable for bass and rock music while my a500 tend to be soft melodic music

gaming i suggest go for philips if on tight budget, worth it imho

dont really like the philips new handle? easily break, the old one like 805 models and shp8900 more durable

strongly deny it.
Until you get a decent dac/amp , you try to hear again the ath-a500
onboard audio is shit really. can't produce any better sound.
even x-fi sound card sucks, which i'm using too smile.gif

if in hot day, we can't deny that pleather/leather pad makes you sweat.
IMO A500 is enough.
AD700 also good for gaming.
pure gaming headphone for fps no need bass. just Mid is enough because you want to hear footstep.

you should try this headphone before purchasing it coz what i define good maybe not good to your ears

between close and open cans you see between a500/a700(closed) and ad300/ad700(open)

Finally got a red Siberia for RM260:D

will upload pics later

the only AudioTEchnica I could find in lowyat was M30

Oh ya one thing, should I get a soundcard to get the best out of my Siberia? If yes, what noticeable difference is there? I used to be a fan of Creative soundcards. Any good brands out there? Budget not more than RM400

thanks thumbup.gif

Oh kay. Since im asking anyone is using a headset stand here instead of hanging it on my monitor. personally i love my headphone and i appreciate it. i dont simply hang it on my monitor and besides, you wouldnt want the ear pads go all one sided.

Thank you very much for your suggestion on DIY headset stand. Personally again i prefer getting a nice headset stand instead of making one. So if you have any suggestion on where to get one. I suggest you shouldnt be giving me suggestion on DIY. thank you very much.n laugh.gif

I used to be a huge Logitech fan; Headsets, Keyboards, Mice, Web-cams, the works. Over time however I started moving away from Logitech, while they have nice dependable products, if you are seriously into hardcore gaming (and willing to spend the money), they do not offer the best specs. I currently use a Logitech headset due to the fact that I cannot afford better, But when it comes down to a nice gaming headset I would check out Tritton Technologies for a good headset. My friend, at my advice got their AX Pro gaming headset with full, godlike, 5.1 surround sound and ability to connect in many A/V fashions (eg. Fiber Optic [which means no interference]). They are amazing beyond belief.

Anyways, not meaning to ramble on here but just saying that before you go Logitech look at the other options because there is tons of great products out there.

Also:
Check out Cyber Snipa and Saitek . They have always been great with there products :]

You quote my old post hmm.gif

I'm wouldn't say myself brand fanboy. Just that I buy depends on the users review.
I've used from Razer to Logitech and both is good. But in the end, it's still end up in the hands on the person preference itself.

Oh cool, bro... Most reviews i read online, they were like, praising the A40. And the price, USD 250.. Fuh, i really wish i can get my hands on them... For now, I'm just happy with my Megalodon... laugh.gif

And yeah, IGN says the mic gets annoyingly loud... Have to move the mic away from the mouth.

Audio Technica is good because, most of their headphone need not require dedicated head amp to drive.
and the price still ok la, affordable what. laugh.gif
In additional, when your pad is koyak-ed/thorn you can always change the earpad biggrin.gif
All ath A/AD series are big enough, so after long wearing you are still feel comfortable with it.

No stereo can make a true surround sound system.
Only multiple speakers setup can make that.

Btw, is razer carcharias has subwoofer in the headphone ? laugh.gif It stated 2.1 headphone wow !!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

before u ask which one is good for gaming, ask urself what type of gaming.
if u want to play single player storyline games, RTS, etc etc...then there are of cos better choices out there than barracuda, 5hv2 etc.
but like for competitive FPS...where u need to hear stuff like footsteps clearer and more accurately without too much bass disturbing...then thats where the so-called *lower quality* of headsets like 5hv2 and barracuda comes in.
then those sets like siberia, megalodon are like jacks of all trades.

*
Carcharias .... wasn't so impressive than AT ... I head the sound was like normal as usual compare to the AT ATH-M30 .....

Asking about separate mic .... where can I find an attachable microphone? or perhaps can some body teach me mod an attachable microphone?

Was about to get a Steel Series Siberia and wonder how was the mic and everything works. Since the Siberia v2 price is almost near to the Roccat Kave which i think would give a better performance, some told me with RM339 there are still better choice to get, so whats your opinion for a RM339 around headset. Also, can i use my motherboard EP43-UD3L onboard sound card to run the Roccat Kave, will it affect the 5.1 sound quality?

http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Sound/ROCCAT-Kave/

Please give your opinion towards this Kave biggrin.gif or recommend me some below RM339 headset.

Thanks in advance.

Reviews of Roccat has been favourable than Megalodon. Please read all reviews complied from the internet below.

Roccat Kave

http://www.testseek.com/computers/pc-heads...1f0e5c3bbd.html

video review

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIK5SekNpbY

Roccat Megalodon

http://www.testseek.com/computers/pc-heads...b6fdfe2638.html

As i said true is better than virtual (fake) and non compliance with games. Not all games with 5.1 or 7.1 supports virtual (see reviews above) but all game with 5.1 or 7.1 support True sounds - i dont wanna waste money on things that will not offer me certainty in performance. If i want stereo i prefer Mako to play Music or Dota - FPS better on Surround

Btw Roccat has Vibration effects on it Headphone similar to Head Massage - another added bonus. see

http://forum.novatech.co.uk/showthread.php?t=12270

so i feel it bettter to use a proper 5.1. channel speakers to reproduce a better sound.

on top of that creative usb card can be transferred and used on my future proper CPU next time and/or used on my Mako now to improve the sound effects.. USB card supports Dolby Surround unlike Megalodon (no dolby support) so i feel it will be an added value on my Mako and future Headphones (of my choice). My Mako cant use Megalodon's soundcard (waste).

I play FPS games alot but I found out that both 5hv2 and Barracuda cost quite abit, so is there any alternative to the said mentioned headset?? What other good 5.1 headset out there in the market??

Also, could I just like get good sound card and use affordable headset to somewhat reproduce and/or achieve a good sound output?? or vice versa.

depends whether u go LAN often or not.
if yes, then get the 5hv2 or siberia v2 usb.
barracuda is a discontinued product.

if not, then of cos go the other way and get a good soundcard.
for headsets, can look at SS 3H or whatever the cheapest logitech ones for gaming are out there now...tho they will sux if u want to also use them for music.

I play online mostly from home, my current built in motherboard sound + my ol' Anzen speaker works pretty well, I'm just curious what I can improve on my rig sound department. I might look harder into Creative X-Fi series for a viable sound solution. Thanks!!

p/s: I was wondering if those USB soundcard, e.g. SS Siberia USB soundcard is a good replacement for say Creative X-Fi soundcard . . .

the usb soundcard is nowhere near what u can get with the x-fi in terms of sound quality.
its just meant to provide decent consistent surround sound for lan gamers wherever they go.

X Fi USB series doesn mean produce decent quality instead the surround sound features was their main selling point. same goes for the SS Siberia USB Soundcard I think =/

Yep, I meant and was asking whether those USB soundcard, SS Siberia in particular, would be a good and/or viable replacement for a Creative X-Fi motherboard expansion card.

@ Harveyboy

I think it's the same on the flip side ; Razer, Steelseries, etc are unheard of in the music & movie market and/or industry. Razer and such are not associated with home theater, as a very good substitute iPod headset, etc, etc. They were meant for different function and target crowd, using those brand outside it’s intended market is like asking Norah Jones to pick up Gibson Les Paul and grind it like Slash and vice versa . . .

Granted I would say the switch is not that bad and/or big a problem ; a good headset is a good headset. Your Sony and Philip would be a good headset, just that it’s intended market =/= PC gaming, for the moment at least, that I known off. The only thing I don’t know is = what is the difference between PC gaming 5.1 and home theater 5.1 surround sound, if any.

5.1 is 5.1.
just that gaming headsets are 'optimized' for frequencies related to gunshots, footsteps etc.
ie. more mids, less bass.

there currently no actual feedback yet for Siberia V2 but for sure 5HV2 have absolute precision sounds on every footstep, movement and gun fire location just lack of quality through music and movie play ...

what most headphiles has agreed on as the best gaming headphone happens to be one of the bassiest headphone around... which is the Beyerdynamic DT770pro/80. next in line would be the even more bassier DT770 '05.... the bass is good for explosions... but of course, the bass isnt the only deciding factor. these headphones has superb sound positioning, controlled bass, clear details and wide soundstage. provided these 2 headphones are properly amped.

unamped, the Audio Technica A900, which isnt so bass heavy, is considered the best...2nd only to those 2.

but theyre all closed headphones... not many people want open cans as gaming headphones as they dont want sound leaking in and they want the isolation. so open headphones arent really ranked that much when it comes to gaming, though they still work extremely well...like my DT990, which is also bass heavy laugh.gif

i guess the bass is highly dependent on what games u are playing.
for RTS, RPG etc, i guess u would want somewhat the whole frequency etc.
but for FPS, having too much bass can sometimes drown the faint footsteps that everyone would need to listen out for.

depends i guess... my DT990 though bass heavy, still can hear footsteps in COD4. most of these headphones has good sound seperation...so that they dont drown out the footsteps...especially if the explosion is on ur left and footsteps are on ur right...

havent played CS in a long while so dont really know about that one...

not 5.1, its 7.1, but its not true 7.1, its virtual 7.1. but if u use tis, it will decrease the sound quality, if u wan to keep intact the sound quality thn stay wif steroe mode, use 7.1if u play FPS games.

Yeah, anyone got any suggestion to choose between Razer Megalodon and Logitech G35?
*
yea, steelseries siberia v2 w/ usb 7.1 soundcard.
the 7.1 soundcard may not be as good as the G35 (actually i have no idea cos never tried the G35 so just assuming), but in stereo mode it does just as well as the Megalodon.
plus, the siberia v2 has 3.5mm jacks, so can use with your ipod etc.

Well, i heard siberia v2 is better than both of them. not to mention the price of the megaladon.. its too much for a 'gaming' headset, the bundled soundcard, well, just not up to the par of a normal decent soundcard.
just make sure u have a decent soundcard for siberia, asus stx is good choice. smile.gif

Siberia would not beat the megalodon..
I can assure u of dat..
I tested both b4 and sumhw, i felt the megalodon is more solid compared to the v2..
Call me biased but rm 500+ products would perform slightly or significantly better than it cheaper compatriot..
v2 is a good headphone but inho, megalodon is not bad also providing u got the $$
G35 again unknown coz no test b4..
xD

And sound cards, i think Megalodon is better as the Maelstrom engine already proves 2 be a smaller version of a sound card..

Gimme a Kave and I'll test them 4 you and upload the result?
LOL~~"
Kave huh..
Silverfire did an awesome review on that Kave so I would assume it is as solid as he claims..
Well, been using Mr.Megalodon 4 quite some time..
In my opinion, no big gap between this too..
Megalodon might have the slight edge in sounds and bass perhaps but Kave has vibrations (If i recalled em correctly)
Guess its subjective..

There should be difference. One has a better frequency while the other runs on independent drivers to generate surround.

Since both are marketed as a positioning Headphones... do u think that Megalodon is able to produce proper directional sounds... does the ambiance sound natural?? not hollow or like in tunnel??

Cool..

@JasonJenn - Erm, hard to say leh.. I tested megalodon against Siberia.. Not Kave bro.. In my opinion, I think megalodon has a wider range of sound, bass and its quite good.. I think i can determine the direction of the sound quite accurately..
If you seriously want such quality in a headphone, please head to Ad-500 or Ad 900..

Still got somebody asking for G35 huh? Ok here just my 2 cents bout that Headset.. tongue.gif

Logitech G35 performing really good even its produce Digital 7.1 sound stage as it claimed. Nice Treble and Bass followed by Digital Dolby supported..Turn to Full Blast still make my listening steady soft. Feel so Firm and Not too harsh / too loud..Depend on ur preference though as it come with USB connectivity. And some said its quite Heavy but its just Ok for me. The mic also solid and really good from what they claim like Noise isolation etc..

As mine, It's already deliver rich sound for my needs. No need to pair it with xtra soundcard. BTW, Im not such a heavy music monitoring type. Just Enough pair my Logitech Z2300 with decent Soundcard for freedom listening session..Worth to try laugh.gif

If u have an xtra Souncard that deliver rich 5.1 sound, go for Kave. If no, u may go for G35. Its worth to try.. brows.gif
Bare in mind that both Headset come with different connector. Kave will be widely use as it use standard 3.5mm jack while G35 using USB connection.. biggrin.gif

heres my take on audiophile headphones.

firstly, if all you're using are mp3s and gaming...any good headphones dont even need to be audiophile will do...afterall GIGO.
for me if i were to recommend a cheap headphone to use for gaming...it would be from philips.

and i doubt most gamers even own any audiophile music anyway...and those audiophile purists out there probably wont waste time with headphones when they got their own fancy tube amps + high end speakers etc tongue.gif

yea there are some *gaming* headsets that sound like crap, and are supposedly tweaked for fps games for footsteps / gunshots etc.

then there are also top fps teams out there who also use jack-of-all-trade headsets like the siberia v2 / razer carcharias / piranha / whatever, which perform well enough in both games and music...
also cos they have built-in mics...

amazon.com as far as i know dont ship electronics to malaysia....

i know coz i tried ordering the dt990 on it once and they wont ship here.

as for tax....buying from bluetin and paying tax is still cheaper than buying locally.

At first im not hoping too much by the USB virtualization Headset (More into trying), but right after clip on both ear, random hit on my music list "Cascada - Dangerous" & "Coldplay - Viva la Vida" and the result is tremendously WOW! Crisp & Clear drool.gif

Same goes into Movies, make me stay tuned on 3 movies straight. The sound produce quite impressive and what dolby give really mesmerizing (canceled my appointment outside with fren) doh.gif

Dun want to praise too much, until u have a time with it. If im not in need for some money urgently, i wont bother to sell this great headset.. sweat.gif

cant compare dude,
AD700 1st is open air , the sound sig totally diff with G35.

shud compare A500 vs G35 since both is closed back

but then G35 got those dolby surround bla bla technology,
while audiophile headphone will never has those technology.

they use decoder to decode surround sound.

The Siberia is the only one you can use with mobile devices or mp3 players since it uses the 3.5mm audio jacks instead of the USB port..

i love it so much !

the sound is superb and very comfortable to wear.

the lack of bass is only its disadvantage smile.gif

but overall if you are not into bass, this headset is just perfect !

Edit : After some tweaking using my sound card, the bass now is better and i am enjoying it ^^

i'm using Sennheiser HD280 Pro...

when i try it on COD4, im literally sound hacking... can determine enermy direction if they are within 30+/- meters range...

its totally awesome

added...

btw those dolby/5.1/7.1 surround headphones are basically the same thing... its all virtual surround...
even a normal headphone with only one 3.5mm jack could mimic the same effect provided if the sound card/source supports virtual surround... just that the quality and accuracy of the surround might not be that good if ur using cheapo sound card or onboard sound

still, if you want the best surround effect without compromising sound quality, get a Creative X-Fi and a descent headphone...

Wanna ask which headset should i get for budget RM250 to RM300? Will be able to add in a little more budget if its really worth it.

Looks like a lot of people here use Roccat Kave, Senheiser and Steel Series

I was looking at Roccat Kave but it seems a little too pricey

BTW I own asus xonar u1. I tried this with normal sony earphone for surround sound while gaming. I'm not happy with it. Will ss usb soundcard be better or I just need a better headset.

I'm thinking of getting a gaming headphone and I'm wonder which is better. Please do comment on these headphones. Which is recommended/the best?
Steelseries Siberia, Steelseries 5H, Steelseries 5Hv2 or Razer Megalodon? Any other recommendations are welcomed too.

all the above are excellent choices, but you won't go wrong with the Megalodon. Kicks arses in any way imaginable. laugh.gif

i.o.w.: a well balanced headset, suitable for both gaming and general usage.
