Hi Lacus,

This has been reported to Gainward and they are checking it. The current situation is:

1. Gainward 4850 Golden Sample being the FASTEST factory-overclocked 4850 model sold thousands over pcs worldwide till date. There has been NO reports of similar incidents elsewhere.

2. Gainward will run some thorough diagnostics to see if this occur in their testing lab.

3. Blank screen happens to other brands too, this kind of issues are hard to narrow down.

But it's unlikely to be due to temp, heat or anything to that effect. Check again to make sure clean removal (folders, registry) of old drivers and fresh installation of new driver. Try this program: http://www.ccleaner.com/

Update your OS and patch your games frequently.

Hi all, 4850 Golden Sample reporting in.

Regarding this, I did a little test of my own using Furmark as the stressing tool. What I've noticed is, I can run Furmark all day without problem with MSAA turned off. But when I set MSAA to 8x, I will experience the screen blackout. I had to use the esc key to turn off Furmark before the screen coming back (my desktop only appear maybe for 1 second or so only during the blackout). Screen came back instantly when Furmark was turned off, and before I turned it off I manage to take a screenshot of my desktop.



Funny thing is the FPS went much higher than average during the blackout period. And the donut (or whatever that thing is) has jerks when running with 8x MSAA. Maybe this could help you guys in your investigation . My guess is this might be related to AA though. Doesn't look like a overheat issue either though.

reducing to 1280x1024 no AA, all high still has the same problem, fed up uninstalled...

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, there's once got artifact during multiplayer online creating game, then crashed and restarted...

1280x1024, 16x Filtering, AA on, all high

after restart no problem liao...i suspecting heat problem... fan was running very fast

not sure all these game or wat... hope these feedback will provide some info for u guys...

i didnt remove the warranty as i only remove the cover of the heatsink and only vrm chip can cover with heatsink..

Netraid did told me that 3mm(height) ramsinks can't fit onto the samsung chips around the the R770 chip. Must get 2.5mm ones. Sounds insanely thin. And moderno don't carry 2.5mm ramsinks.. I contacted him yesterday. Cooler Master's ones are 5mm high.. so yeah, can't fit the samsung chips underneath the heatsink.

Time to make BULK on 2.5MM RAMSINKS! Someone please?

Wow, started this thread around midnite and till now more than 800 views, encouraging.

Firstly, Gainward discourage anyone from putting anything on their cards, all models.

Also, we do not encourage anyone flashing the BIOS. But it will NOT void warranty IF we ask you to flash a new BIOS. Other than that, please do NOT do it.

We are not sure how will the factory response to torn warranty stickers but we think it might void the warranty. So please guys, be careful.

Having said all these, I've checked with Moderno, our OC experts: Coolice, Lohalol and LYP vendors, so far no one has small 2.5mm ramsinks. So to satisfy those here, please just tell us WHERE and get those ramsinks? Thanks.

2.i am planning to get my 4870x2 and another piece of 4870 to do cfx( tri cf since my psu permited to that level only),if let say i used 1 gainward 4870 gs and a normal 4870x2(depend on your answer to first question) what are the outcome?

i dont want to settle down on 2 card solution bcoz i am running it now,so for me in order to move forward i need a 3 core/4 core but still 4 core is out of question since my psu(my spec is on my siggy) is enough for roughly 3 core setting...

Hehe... Another 4850GS owner from PG. The card looks great especially the 2 heat pipes. But I juz dont understand why need the 8pin since the 6pin can supply the card with 75watt and PCIe with another 75watt. Reference 4850 only needs 105watts to operate. There are still plenty of power to spare. Really clueless...

Well, show off factor? Though I would prefer it to use 6 pin instead... no need for a converter =/

the 8 pin gives extra ground point. an extra ground provides much smoother and more stable power delivery to the card.

Extra ground? I though the 2 extra pins are both 12v pins isn't it? From the looks of the 6 pin to 8 pin converter though.

Hey guys today i just bought the 4850GS but my when i fix it in, the GC blocks my SATA plug on the motherboard.. how to solve this? got anyway else to bypass the SATA plug on the mobo?

my 2 sata plugs is at the end of the mobo, covered by the edge of the 4850GS. So i have no way to fix in the sata wire to connect it to the hdd and the dvd-rw.. help.... takkan have to change the whole pc leh..

Yeah, I suppose you should buy those angled SATA cables.. but if you don't wish to, i guess you have to cramp it. I managed to cramp my power cables on the left side of the PCIE slot after inserting my Gainward card. There's a little gap that fits nicely.

Got a few A.C.Ryan Sata cable from him. Just search at bulk orders.

guys, question. I installed the 4850GS and went through all the installation stuff. But one installation couldn't complete. It's the Microsoft UAA HD audio driver. The installation cannot proceed cos cannot find the location of the driver. I used the CD which came with the card and it couldn't find the driver there. Please help.

Any way for me to download the driver directly? i can't find it on the net.
