Hi there, I've just bought the Gainward 4870 GS a few days back. The thiing is, I'm unable to play games with this card. The error" display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has succesfully recovered" keeps popping out whenever i try to play games. Sometimes the games would just hang and sometimes it gives me bsod. I've tried install/uninstalling drivers/ccc and it does not seem to work. My last option would be to reformat back and use Win Vista Ultimate 32 since currently i'm using the 64bit version. Anyone have any ideas for what I should do cause I would rather not format if i dont have too.
Thanks for helping |

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Sep 12 2008, 10:22 AM) 64 bit drivers of course Anything else that I can try. Already tried turning aero off, and that didn't work either. Btw, right now downloading the hotfix patch for ati 4800 series from ati, will let you guys know how that goes. This post has been edited by Hiiryu: Sep 12 2008, 10:28 AM |

QUOTE(Lacus @ Sep 12 2008, 10:36 AM) hmm, maybe bios update (for the mobo?) might work? not so sure though...i though drivers for both 32 and 64 r the same? (since ccc always has 32_64 thingie on their release) The bios have already been updated to the latest ver. I have 3 more things to try: 1) Try removing 1 of the rams, as xchoit suggested 2) Try the hotfix driver from ati 3) Format If they don't work, I dunno what I'm gonna do.......... |

Didn't know that. Anyway, it didn't work
Just wanted to be sure, this issue does not mean that my 4870 is faulty right? Just some half assed work from ati/microsoft? |

Sorry for the late reply. Well, I've tried removing 1 of the ramstick, didn't work. I've also reformatted to Win Vista Ultimate 32, didn't work either. My head feels really heavy now
Bro NetRaid, about the artifacts thingie, I can see some but it comes and goes very fast. Whenever it crashes, the screen would go black and then would display some artifacts, but this whole process would take about 1-2 secs. The game would then continue, but after a little while, it would black out again and show artifacts again. Sometimes the pc would hang or give me bsod. Right now, I've only tested Cabal, no other games yet cause I need to go out in a while. Will continue again with some other games when I get back, but I have a feeling that the result would be the same. Btw, I'm using ori version of windows. Really hope that this issue could be resolved fast and thanks to everyone that helped with suggestions. Any other ideas to try is greatly appreciated |

QUOTE(Lacus @ Sep 12 2008, 08:45 PM) In Win Vista Ultimate 64, yes, it happens in every game. I've just reformatted to 32bit, but currently I've only tested with one game(Cabal), will try with other games when i get back home later. Goin out for a while after this. About trying in friend's pc, I'll see if i can borrow a pc from my friend and see how it goes. |

QUOTE(Dark Steno @ Oct 7 2008, 03:54 AM) ngeh, i was using amd fusion and during intense battle, the game crashed. new mobo and cpu are required perhaps. have to be patience for new rig later. Try changing your refresh rate. I have the same issue but after changing the rate, I can set it back to 1680 x 1050. Sounds weird, but it worked for me, mebbe can give it a shot.Added on October 7, 2008, 3:59 ambtw, when playing devil may cry 4, the highest reso i can use is 1280x1024. i dont know why. previously on nvidia 9600gt, i can go up to 1680x1050. |
