even by using that...u still wont be able to do CLS...
wat u can do is off shoe triggering...thats about it...
u shud have gotten the optical slave instead...
then u'll be able to tryout strobist...again no CLS here...
by using optical slave...ur flash will fire if it detects another flash firing...

so the only way for a d40 to have CLS...
is su-800 or sb-800...=)

hehe.. it is a trick actually, the Sb600 has slave mode, but it cant be trigger by D40 alone,
I need the SU-800 optical trigger or some other optical trigger, or SB-800..

I dun have any of them,

so I put my d40 on tripod, setting a long exposure time, 10seconds,
release the shutter, i go to the flash and press the "test flash" button.. ,
i tried few shots as i need to extremely careful not to move the flash, and i need to be fast so that my hand wont be captured..

i mean, offshoe. How?

no la.D40/x not equipped with it if im not mistaken..

mindkiller...you seen my "what can you do when theres a blackout?" thread? i used the method that you explianed to shoot that shot..go check out the photo gallery

i mean off shoe..

i read from flickr,they use pocket wizards, cactus trigger,etc..i dun know whr to buy n hav no xperience using ebay..

I define Nikon CLS to be a commander unit controlling multiple offshoe flashes.

In that case, D40 or any Nikon DSLR is CLS capable because you just need to get a commander. The D40 can't function as a commander but if you use the SU-800 or the SB-800, then you can commander other slave flashes.

i just read it.. ya.. it is the same concept !! the result is so nice..
next time i wanna hire someone to hold the flash for me.. makes my team look more professional

Haha off-shoe tak boleh ler. But the D40 is still CLS compatible. Get the SB-800 la. By the time xand PM you the stuff to get, the SB-800 will be cheaper

but i will use 50mm 1.8 + raynox adapter to make it life size, or at least close to it..

thanks.. just wanna utilize my 50mm, wanted to shoot fireworks pictures with it, but too bad the place i stand is too tight for it..

Hehehe if i get my dedicated macro setup, i might let go the Raynox.

i heart tat the D40 has no live view..

is it a disadvantage, uncomfortable or is it ok to hav no live view supported camera?

live view wasnt meant to be in SLR... so i dun think there is a need for live view...it is only useful when shooting hard to reach angles...other than that, nobody uses live view

Well its a nice feature to have but its not a necessary feature.

its good when you wanna shoot from your lappy . and u gotta admit tht live view is kinda cool to have even tho you dont use it much. hehe

the tech for live view in SLR are not advance enough for you to use it often... for eg the focusing speed and stuff...so damn slow with live view.....

I think the Sony LiveView is pretty good and the Olympus LiveView also not too bad. The D300 wan however is horrible

Sony's DSLR live is the best AFAIK.. and fast switching too..

Speaking of D300... I've used my friend's D300 over a couple o days liao and I think the D40X is a little piece of toy now...
