i do use the d40x occasionally

this d40x is given to me as my teaching aid and i find the small size to be 'fun' to use.
attach a 50 f1.8 to this camera and i have a small camera that i can go anywhere with.

true, no AF but who cares...

d40x is more than enough for what i am doing now

whats the major differences between D40 and D60 (except megapizels)?

besides Nikon D40/D60, what other brand DLSR cameras falls on the same level (price/specs/performance wise)?

any idea? pls advice.

D40 kit lens do not come with the VR (vibration reduction) function.
VR is like 'anti shake' kinda thing

it's useful i would say

yeah, it is part of the nikon malaysia deal for arts uni in malaysia.
they have this offer for my uni for the first 5 weeks of a new semester. for those who remember, i did 'promote' it approximately half year ago.

anyway, KTCY
nice photo you have there. i dont find the exposure to be 'wrong'
what i find it interesting is the fact that the clown and the kid were like in a world of their own.
the whole place looked boring, with the people at the back doing nothing but day dreaming rotting.
but for these 2 people, they are enjoying themselves.
the kid's expression says a lot and the action of the clown compliment it.

it is a nice photo in my opinion.

this lense used to be in my wishlist. I made my opinion from people's review since I dun have chance to try this lense..  smile.gif

i would suggest you to try the 2.8 lens before you actually believe what kenrockwell said.
i am not saying that that person is full of crap, but i am saying that you should have your own opinion on these 2 lenses after you have tried it.

but then again...

WTA

what is the difference in term of picture quality, if

1- use ND filter
2- stack 2 CPL as infinite ND filter

please advice, thx smile.gif
*
depends on the glass quality of the filters

1. it is not recommended to stack filters as image quality will suffer
2. 2 pieces of cpl is more expensive that 1 piece of nd filter

for some reason i like the first shot. the overexpose-ness somehow causes the photograph to have this very uncanny feeling.

the 2nd photo is normal... and that is kinda boring

Guys, let's lay off the gear wars.

I wonder though, if sharpness is the only way to show good picture is, then that tells me a lot about it. Sharpness only says that the gear is good, nothing about the photog or the pic.

Another point to remember, a lot of ground breaking shots were taken back in the 60s & 70s. Those were not pin-sharp. If anything, they are noisy and blurry but their other qualities outshone these issues.

But I guess everyone has their own opinion about photography.
*
because these photographers do not have what we have today?

another thing, what are the qualities of those photographs that actually outshine?

Well, yeah, they didn't have what we have today. But it still does not change the fact that the photos looks much better than what we churn out by the dozens everyday.

What's better? Frankly, I think it's the attention to detail, the thought that is put into each photo, the planning that goes into each of them. Sometimes it's the fact that they were brave enough to be there to take pictures (world war pictures for example). But ultimately I think it was because each photo had a story to tell, and they told the story really well. But really, I can't do justice explaining the pictures. Heck, I can't even remember the names of all the photographers I think highly off.

They definitely did not:
1. Keep on snapping pictures of girls
2. Keep on showing off the lens' bokeh by shooting mundane stuff

wait,
are you comparing robert kapa's works with your works or with anyone of the forummers here on lyn?

why don't you compare kapa's works with today's world press award winners' works?
