2) Jonker st area is consider Ancient Chinatown area & during my time late 70 to late 80 is really a ghost town & most buidings really teruk..Only in the late 90' & early 2000, Govt revived this area & now really booming Pasar Malam during weekend

3) New Chinatown area & old bus terminal..(well by now consider old area).. iz the ex shopping street of Melaka during 70-90 ..surrounding Jln Bunga Raya area & New Come road.. (Now Jln Munsyi Abdullah) - The famous O'cien (Fried Qyster) is located ctr of Jln Bunga Raya

4) Melaka Sentral/Tesco & upcoming Aeon Jusco  (This is now the new Central of Melaka where previously was a huge abandoned Sawah Padi where I pancing Ikan & playing wth the mud!!  ..Nearest hotels here Golden Legacy/Naza (Both also about 1.5km away from the terminal!)

Hi to all. My girlfriend is going to Malacca for work at the final weekend of this month. I wanted to plan a suprise dinner for her and would like to propose to her. So i would like to know if there is any place that will be a good romantic restaurant that i can go. What i have in mind is a candle light dinner. Sampan Services are bad, I experienced it twice, gosh~

forget about sampan. the place is not nice anymore, especially after they've reclaimed the land. Food sucks.

Try the italian restaurant at Riviera Bay resort. Highly recommended. Food's good and really intimate atmosphere. Usually quite quiet. Go earlier before the pub crowd comes in.

The restaurant is outside the resort by the beach. U need to enter the lobby, exit to the swimming pool area, walk down to the beach stairs. The restaurant is hidden downstairs there. Good view of the sand while having dinner. You can request them to set up a candlelight table for you ( i did that during valentines).

-satay celup. bee chan heong/ man li heong? forgot the name.
ok ok only. just like lok lok lo. u celup what ever u want inside the kacang sauce.
i found it very dirty. cuz they dun change the sauce after each customer. they just top up. customer tend to celup again after gigit 1 bite.
taste also normal. famous but not the best. i prefer traditional lukluk.

Not all the sate Celup in Melaka are nice. Not sure where is the locationj of the two u mentioned.. There are only 2 famous Satay Celup in Melaka i.e:

1) Capitol (At Banda Kaba)
2) Ban Lee Siang? - (Jln Ong Kim Wee)

Others so-so only & the pricing of this unique (Although looks dirty for some) is much cheaper than crazy lok-lok pricing in KL!

They even opened 1 in Mahkota Parade (Closed down) & another one in Cheras KL but failed too!

The famous & nice one and voted as one o fthe top 3 Chicken rice in Malaysia by MIX FM long time ago is Chung Wah at the corner lot shop facing Stathuy buiding..

Maybe you are true Stimix because I didnt taste rice ball and stay celup myself because it was non halal. I just gather info from my Chinese friend.

Haha...I thought of that also...u must hv been mislead since u'r muslim... BTW, u should recommend some nice halal food too..I believe there are lotsa halal nice food such as Ikan Bakar in Umbai/Serkam, Roti John at Tg Keling...Wah dunno still available..I always goto the one near Pantai Kundor when I was young (Secondary schooll..sumore cycling from Melaka town  )

Satay Celup is a big NO NO for me. sigh.. no offence to mlk people. but i see locals bite and CELUP BACK into the sauce! and they never wash the pots. they recycle the satay sticks! sigh...

Hehe...Not only u but lotsa ppl outside Melaka view the same..thus it's a failure trying to introduce satay celup in KL, I've seen 2 failure so far in KL. One way back in mid 90', 1 shop failed in Taipan USJ & another in early 2000 at Taipan 2, USJ ...also failed.. ...The one really successful in KL is the Fatty steamboat...now becoming franchise business oledi...Every Luk-luk van, sure there is a Soya Bean van ..just like Indian rojak...Rojak Van+ Cendol..

Fatty Steamboat was halal or not ar?

No-lah Non halal..sorry bro...but there are Malay satay celup /Lok-lok stalls as well in Klang Valley Pasar Malam..

  that's a very long long list.. hehe..  haven tried b4 colorless wan tan mee in Melaka, Must try one of these days after ur comments.. oni tried in KL which is also known as Hakka Mee (colorless wan tan mee) but taste not so good if compare to wan tan mee..  Jln Nunga Raya??.. not really familiar wif the road.. haha, guess i need to do more xploration in Melaka.. Luv the satay celup in Melaka esp. the Ban Lee Seng.. forgot wat's the road name.. too many roads to remember..  and the Mdm. King's Popiah.. big n famous popiah wif  'jiu you cha'.. but quite expensive tho.. RM2.70 per piece.. eventho it's quite big but i still think it's over-price yet long2 q everytime i go there.. one thing bad about this popiah seller.. they dun give u q number n if there r ppl that potong ur q.. they oso will not bother.. i recalled.. i waited for 40 minutes juz for 3 pieces of popiah..  , now seldom go there d..

  i've tried the famous 'he kiau mee', it's oso known last time as 'under big tree stall' but i recall the quality drop alot if compare to the last time one.. it's oso located at somewhere near to the Hassan's mee goreng place there.. opposite a badminton hall.. is this the one tat u r talking about?

@stimix, no no.. is not the hee kiao mee near tengkera... the tengkera at malacca.. we call it "chou ti mian" means drawer mee... haha.. cause the tauke always keep the mee inside drawer.. they got put MSG on table 1.. u can put as much as u like... the one u ate at newton, they got sell porridge and rice 1 right?

malim oso got some food shop not bad... prawn mee opposite the shell station.. and hakka lei cha rice, this one is slightly difficult to find.. hehe

Yes Malim Jaya which was a sleepy residential township in late 80'..now abit lively oledi...There is one nice & super cheap chicken rice at the foodcourt here: N2 14.357 E102 14.015...Ehh still RM2:50

did you actually read my post? I said that place opposite the melaka badminton association is now occupied by handsome restaurant.....the ex-ramada he kiau mee is not there anymore......nor is it at newton....they said the rental too expensive...I used to love their fish porridge....diff style...now they are at the place I dunno what its called....pangkal lama or sumthin.....sry if I'm wrong....there's a small food court there.....they are there.....somewhere before the audi showroom....
yup the chicken rice at malim is good...they used to be at mahkota before mp renovated their food court and shifted it....used to eat it when I was young...but I just got a problem with them....they don't remove the bones of the chicken and then chop it....when they chop the bones crack and wil fall into the rice....
