if u wan nice Ikan Bakar, go to those Malay Village..Its a lot more nicer than Portuguese Settlement.

Google Seri Muara Alai Hj.Nasir Ikan Bakar or Ikan Bakar Umbai Melaka.

Its just 20-30 mins driving distance away from city..guarantee you worth the visit coz they have a lot of nice seafood too.

Thinking of going Melaka during Christmas week as havent been there for over 10 years. Any good recommendation of hotel within walking distance from Jonker St.? How is the event/celebration around Jonker St during Christmas Eve? Lots of pubs there?

Back in September, I booked a hotel in Malacca for end of October and then CMCO (Selangor) started. Can't travel. Asked hotel to relocate the date (still open) but only up to end of Nov. Still no sign of ending CMCO to yet.

My tips in visiting Melaka...

- get hold of a simple tourist map, as below.
https://www.melaka.gov.my/en/tourism/touris...melaka-town-map

user posted image

- All the tourist spots in the town area are within walking distace. So wear a comfortable walking shoes. And an umbrella if doing the walking tour in the afternoon.

- There are restaurants and stalls selling food and drinks at almost every block, so you can take a break now and then.

- Best time is real early in the morning, about 7am. Quiet and less people.

- Walking to all the tourist spots around Jonker St, the river banks and around the Stadhuys and Dataran Pahlawan can easily take 4-5 hours.

- You will not be able to cover all the tourist spots. So leave some for future trips.

Also another tip.
Download 'SVP Parking Melaka' app to pay parking online.
Managed to dodge 2 'bullets' (summons) on Sunday. Saw by my own eyes 2 authorities writing summons on other cars but not mine.
Yes, you need to pay parking on weekends and if I am not wrong you do not need to pay parking on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hi all, I did some search in booking.com for accommodation and prefer something within walking distance to Jonker Street to minimise driving. A lot of the places based on my filter stated 800-900m from Jonker Street. What does that equate in terms of normal walking? 10-15 mins walk?
