Too bad you are in JB. But over there also many Hyper Elites. If you are here, I might be able to bring to a pad, not very big (must learn how to talk mah); abt 60 X 100. Maybe megatron got the chance.

1st floor living area : Pioneer 50". Master : 40". 1st floor kitchen area (yes, you read it correctly) 32" wall mounted to watch news ONLY.

Grd floor living hall : 50" Pioneer. Dining : 32" wall mounted. Now, children making noise. Maybe need to install LCD TV for all 3 childrens' rooms. Sorry, maid room tarak tv.

ar188 knew him too.

Very good explaination from the graph. This show that Full HD is not necessary if the distance is not near enough and only above 50" screen will only see significant differences.

my tv rack from my sofa is 11-12 feet. So a 720p is good enough for 42" plasma.

Thanks for the graph!

Misconception that Plasmas have reflective screens and LCD's don't...

user posted image
http://gizmodo.com/341062/samsungs-high+en...but-no-leds-wtf

Samsung's 1080p LCDs are some of the best out there, and here are their top models for the coming year: The charmingly named LN40A650T, LN46A650T, LN52A650T, LN40A750T, LN46A750T, and LN52A750T. They've got 120Hz refresh rates with 4ms response times, putting them in the same league as last year's Sharps in those terms. They're also getting ethernet for RSS downloads of weather and other info. Touch of Color (TOC) bezel adds an amber, automotive paint inspired tint to the chassis. 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs and a scrollwheel remote. March 2008 availability in 40, 46, 52 inch sizes. Early specs revealed a 65 inch model, but that's been dropped from final press sheets. The seven series line is identical to the six, but gains a USB port for MPEG and JPEG playback and internal memory speculated to be 1GB in size.
The Catch: If this is their top of the line, I'm wondering where the glorious LED backlights are. This set also has that super reflective finish that makes daytime viewing a glare-filled experience.

First time I saw a demo on a plasma which requires the salesman to punch and slap the screen to show off the screen were powderful wan...panasonic PV8serieslah...he said its made from fiberglass..dunno how true it is..

I wonder if I can do that to my PV70? ...seems like the same screen other than the higher contrast and new engine...and of course nice price.

let me ask a question ... you get TV to watch Astro, local TV channels, Movie (DVD or Blu-ray), to play game (Wii, xBox or PS3) ... which one is the most ... this is important factor

I have my 12-year-old 21-inch Hitachi CRT TV for Astro.
I don't play games (My wife will scold me if I do).
So primarily, it will be for Movie (will get Blue-ray player later)

if primarily for movie, then Plasma is the choice ... because LCD could not give smooth for fast object movement mainly due to ms response ... Plasma has no such limitation ... therefore if you watching Sport or Movie in LCD ... you will see the screen blur for fast object movement

if you planning to get a Blu-ray Player, PS3 console is the choice ... because it support DTS-HD MA now and it cheaper than standalone Blu-ray Player in the market ... if your AV Receiver does not support DTS-HD MA, you can choose PCM Linear from PS3 to deliver audio ... otherwise choose Bitstream from PS3 to deliver audio ... the connection from PS3 to AV Receiver via HDMI

Misconception that Plasmas have reflective screens and LCD's don't...

Yea. Received PV80h yesterday. Awesome. Sorry didn't post yesterday, was busy molesting the plasma...heheheh.

The stand can swivel, but swivel from the bottom. The bottom got wheels.

The PQ is excellent. I still haven't look through the manual completely yet.

But this is the package:

1. Panasonic HDMI cable
2. Panasonic 5 years warranty (stated in the warranty card)

This unit is from Panasonic Malaysia.

My HT-465 home threatre no here yet, so cannot test the 1080p upscale. But I've tried normal component connection DVD playback. the picture is great.

The distance between the TV and my sofa is about 12 feet. So even with 480i still looks very good. You cannot tell.

That MI:3 movie which I download and burn into the DVD. But I can zoom in until cannot see the grey bar.
Some DVD have different widescreen ratio.

Is all widescreen movie should not have grey bar?

I was just thinking.. could the "gray" bars be caused by the angle the picture was taken? BUT we all know Plasma has a great viewing angle so that shouldn't be the caused of it...which leaves the following question :

1) Brightness set too high
2) Crappy copy of MI:3 (u did mentioned it was copied right? tongue.gif )

Anyway, its great that the panny PV80 is finally out. Could it have arrived 2 months earlier, I would have gotten it. Sorry Panasonic, I've give my money to Sony.. biggrin.gif

Because there are still quite a number of 4:3 television programmes being broadcast on Freeview digital TV, viewers who wish to maintain the correct proportions should set [Aspect Ratio] to "4:3" and [Side Panel] to "High". This way, 4:3 material would be preserved as 4:3 (with a pair of grey side masks); and 16:9 would be displayed as 16:9. Either way, the screen would be filled up, lessening the risk of permanent screenburn.

Forget about brands or size .... check out the technology out there that makes movie motion/images damn realistic and 3D.

So far, seen SONY (MOTION FLOW) and PHILIPS (PIXEL PLUS 3) that can do that .... damn impressive. Must see to appreciate.

Cooling fanz are most probably due to improve air circulation to eliminate buzzing sound found on most PV7 series when mounted to the wall.

hi people,

am busy shopping for a 42 incher... currently torn between panny pv80h (1080i) and the new tosh cv500 (1080p?) ... usage would be 50% astro and 50% DivX via HDMI upscaler....  would appreciate any opinion you would have for any of the 2 models....  thanks  thumbup.gif
*
I also to play .avi files most of the time....pv80h is your choice...but its not 1080i please...you got it all wrong, it can scan for 1080p, but the display is still 1024x768. The best part about it gives better res displays a run for its money. For movies..you best bet is Plasma..

I'm not sure of the CV500 specs but full hd is best is blueray players..if you are still using normal upscaled dvd players, will not give that much improvement over the panny. But then again, I might be wrong brows.gif

no wonder i didnt get any updates - got v2 also i dunno!

congrats digitaltech!!! this really shuts them up now. 5 years panny malaysia warranty....whoa!

good job!

btw remember i mentioned that Jusco Members Day Sale can get pretty good deals as well? well 5199 after 5% and 10% cash vouchers is like 4445. and dun forget, you still get cash rebates and points after that. And one more thing - interest free payments. So in the end, the deal might even be better than what you got for RM4300 or close.

congrats again and enjoy~ rclxms.gif

cingu i think the "Plasma TV vs. LCD" info needs to be updated as well. Things like LCD is better in terms of power consumption is wrong and burn-ins etc is not even an issue as proven by many.

Oh yes. This proves what my dealer promises has honoured it. My dealer informed me this package on the 1st day of the Panny Sunway Pyramid roadshow. Never be so sure about anything and do your homework right, especially when you are in this business.

I think I am one of the 1st ppl who get the stock. The dealer manage to get 2 units only and delivered both to me, 1 for me and 1 for my parents.

My dealer is still making money by selling RM4.3k. Imagine HN selling @ RM5199-RM250 without 5 years warranty? You do the math.

HN promises 5 years warranty and later pulled back is bull shit. And the sales people and telling us that HN is giving the warranty. Bull shit again.

Enjoying every second of my pv80h. So satisfied.

Guys,

I am in the market for either a LCD or plasma 40-42". Was only thinking at one time the sony W or V series but saw my friend hitachi plasma tv & was amazed by how sharp it was when seeing astro...I dont remember LCD being that nice under astro. Anyhow I am caught between the sony LCD & the pana PV80 or pioneer 428. Looks like I am leaning towards plasma as I watch more astro & movies and sports. However two things worry me about plasma; burn in & durability. I am told that plasma screen are not so durable compare to LCD & some even advise touching plasma screen is not advisable....Any comments? unsure.gif

True, part of panasonic demo was punching and slapping the PV80!
But that creates another problem...the salesman now become 'all brawn and no brain' . He didn't even know the res. for the PV80...he said it was 1366 instead of 1024 as mention.

Actually, touching a plasma screen will create fingerprint spots...well, you just have to clean it up with a damp cloth.

Sometimes sales talk confusing us. Would be better to deal with the right person. Yesterday I checked with Best Denki, stock available in KL. 3 days delivery. So Panasonic buyers should be happy. Discount voucher, Warranty period and Free gifts still valid.

Panasonic received feedbacks about Plasma panel damage when falling down, hit by flying object, etc ... therefore they build-in a front glass panel to provide high resistance to impacts. However the mark will leave on glass panel depending on level of impact.

But I believe not any types of cloth. Panasonic said using soft cloth. Should be using 3M brand better. Otherwise the front glass panel still scratch after wiping many times.

I am surprised to watch Astro on my pv80h. The PQ is excellent. I have seen many LCDs and Plasmas in showrooms and never see such good PQ in my panny. I am really impress.

My pv80h comes with a special cloth to clean the bezel and the stand (the shinny part).
There's a special instructions to clean my panny.

I meant on Astro Connection, PV80h PQ is better. Maybe the showroom uses splitter connections which reduce the PQ.
I am using S video connection. But overall Astro PQ on pv80h surprises me.

I've tried using Dell XPS with HDMI connection to PV80h in Sunway Pyramid during the roadshow. The picture is good.
But on action fast moving movies, the picture not so smooth. I suspect it's the notebook problem, because it's running on vista and many times hang.
The resolution is correct for sure on pv80h.

Friend, Its not easy to ship the LCD/Plasma to where you are going, unless you are willing to pay premium to DHL etc...

Anyway, since its so difficult, why not get a projector? At least it comes in a small box and offers bigger view.

burn-in is no longer an issue. they say it would take 4 days to burn in when left a non moving image. nowadays plasma TV have pixel shifting feature that will reduce the possibility of burn ins. you can read in this report -
http://apcmag.com/plasma_vs_lcd__which_is_best.htm

as for touching the screen, i think someone got confuse with LCD TV. I hear that LCD TV you are not suppose to go press press the screen....Plasma glass is hard, no worries to touch, all you get is fingerprints nia. And the latest Panny Plasma very keng as reported.

HT-465 is the end lowest range models with 2 tower speaker and 2 small speakers and 1 centre speaker.
It comes with 1080p HDMi upscale and ipod dock and USB port.

The most important to me is Viera Link!

Go to Jusco and get the 08 catalogue. I got mine yesterday in 1U jusco.

let me clarify u buddy...i pretty sure u din go sunway or miss out something...

when panny ngam ngam launch pv80 or pv8,all juz come wif 1yr warranty...but HN giv 5yrs extended warranty which is given by one of the overseas insurance..dunno which country...i think is australia..4get jor....

after 2weeks from sunway..then they only announced that pv80 n pv8 will hv 5yrs warranty from panny...
*
My dealer already told me it's 5 years warranty from Panny on the 1st day of Sunway roadshow, dude.
This information was the same as I told you 4.3k for pv80h, and you guys said it's impossible because it's below cost price.

You got the cost price list and yet some dealer still can get this price lower.

I dunno man, I think HN has offended many early buyers during the roadshow if they find out they can get better deal outside.

Need some enlightenment here...

I am in a hunt for 37" - 42" LCD/Plasma TV but i am not sure which brand/model is good for my case.

My set up will be on living room and mostly used to watch DVDs and movies from my laptop (no astro yet doh.gif ). The dvd player in my house is just normal dvd player with s video support (no HDMI) but plan to get maybe a ps3 in the future.

Can anyone recommend which LCD TV/ Plasma is good for me? currently i have ruled out samsung coz the colour is too vivid to my liking.

Can anyone recommend me a good LCD/Plasma TV?

Dealer offer 4.3k still makes money. It's just that HN makes more money with higher price.

IMHO, it is not wise to disclose the shop's info here in public...just afraid that the dealer will disagree to offer this price later due to certain reason eg somebody complaint to Panasonic HQ. Can this happen hmm.gif ??

Can I suggest that you put some kind of "warning" in the opening post of this thread. Something sound like "please do not reveal the offerred price if u dont want to reveal the shop name, location and contact here" . So that everybody aware of the "rules" here.

For 42pv80...if i take in package after minus this and that also very+very closed to RM4300

Wow... Pioneer not giving 5 year warranty direct anymore?? That's strange I have to say....

Anyways to those who are interested in obtaining Pioneer 428/508, please note that the prices on the front page are probably list prices and you can probably get much less even in Large Stores by ASKING or from elsewhere.

Do some research if you're REALLY interested. Or just buy at whatever price if you're just too damn rich tongue.gif

Not advisable to TRANSPORT a plasma on your own.

They need to be kept upright and there's something some level of risk there (from what I've heard). You can even see it on the box.

AND needs to be installed by professionals - ie. the need to make sure about levelling and such.

If you're moving - just buy your TV there!! It's too much of a hassle to lug all this stuff around anyways.

btw, Pioneer Plasma is come with 5 years warranty from Pioneer Malaysia ... you go to any authorized shops ... it stated there with TV together ... this is the picture I took at Best Denki yesterday ... you see the word "5" on right side

selling at RM1,899 with HDMI cable ... I asked the sales person do the sound test ... KENG ...

btw, I interviewed Best Denki ... what is their most sellable Plasma in the shop ... the answer is Pioneer ...
*
Ermm... if you willing to spend 8+k or 15+k on your screen... doesn't make sense that you get a 1,899 HTS right?????? tongue.gif

HAHA..

Anyways, yes... apparently Pioneer plasma IS selling like hotcakes OR they don't have much stock...... I wouldn't know ... but even the shop I bought tell me all out of stock!!

One thing I find irritating though is why the LX Series (full HD) is so expensive in Msia.

I was in Australia and I checked - 428 is cheaper here, 508 about the same - around 15-16k ringgit.... but LX508 is only about 19k ringgit or so after conversion.

Doesn't have the MEGA price premium that it has here..... (if the 30k rumor/price from v1 of this thread is correct - since I never bothered to check the real price)

Yeah.. that's why I say I don't understand why premium is so much........

Anyways... seeing the LX608 face to face at the store.. I can't say that I was that impressed.

The Kuro is something like the BMW and Benz of the Plasma TV. You have to pay for the premium and the brand name.

I took the picture below a couple of months ago. I think the pricing might have gone down to you above price.

Currently I'm predicting that the new Panasonic 50" Full HD will retail at that price. If the pricing is lower then better thumbup.gif

BTW, I'm just a consumer and not working Panny biggrin.gif

when PV70 was newly launched, my friend bought it for rm4700 after all the discounts and cash vouchers. this is not even counting the cash rebates and points after that he will get. This was at Jusco Members day sale in 1U last year. I was there with him. The discount showed 5% but an hour later, they changed it to 10% off plus 10% cash vouchers, the price was unbeatable,=. you could have interest free payments as well. nothing extra to pay.

The HDMI cable comes separately. Not together with the box.
Tell HN, you give me the hdmi cable or the deal is off!

You are paying more in HN and somemore no HDMI cable?
Are you nuts?

Sometimes, the sales man keep the hdmi for themselves if they can talk their way out the customers.

^ that free HDMI that he taken is dunno from Panny or HN. Coz he got on the 3 day "promo" day. Promo but cost a bomb.
This is my 1st n last deal with HN also. Really bad svc la.. keep the cable for themself.. summore my pv8h postponed to next week, when htkaki can get his stock by tmrw (yet to be confirmed)
Anyone knows for sure n seen PV8H being sold outside with ready stock..?
If so, Im gonna call my sales rep at HN n give him an earful, n see what they do If i threaten to call off the deal.

what is the difference between Pana PV70 and PV80?
*
PV80 looks visually better, new engine, better contrast and most importantly cost cheaper.
PV80 also has a SD card slot and 3 HDMI and better grey to black steps...

I'm not sure abt the PV80 plasma screen impact resistant feature whether PV70 has it or not.
Or whether it has fans behind to counter the buzzing sound that plagues the PV70 mounted on a wall.

On paper, its a no brainer...PV80 is way above the PV70...maybe its a direct ccomparison to PV700 which cost RM8K then..

i just check today in Jusco, with the Jusco privilege discount i get 5% off. The stock for PV80h just arrived. I asked if they come with the HDMI cable they say don't have. I am not sure if this deal is ok? the price is 5,199 so after 5% its approx 4,940.

clngu, if you read thru, they do mentioned the 8G is 80% inproved from 7G and same applied to 9G over 8G......

On another forum (given link, just go to main forum) also comparing Panny 80(the darkness) vs LG PG60, also comments from new Panny, Sammy plasma user as well........

Do notice 5th May 08 will be global anouncement thus, 13th May 08 is the launching gala (dinner), 15th May 08 will be hitting their market...... (Maybe to catch up the Euro & Olympic band wagon.... rather then their usual year-end launching......)

My personal opinion, I will go for Sharp A63 rather than Samsung N81 (though size diff).
Originally I'm also going for SharpA63 but later switch to Samsung F81 now........ uncertain coz now price like diarrhea "low sai"(still holding for price drop.......) coz hell lotsa new model launching from LG...Samsung... Panasonic... Sony.....to Pioneer...

Maybe u want to look at those new model? like Samsung A650 (for Full HD). Coz those two model u menioned didn't support 1080/24p and now 100/120Hz support (thiugh Sharp should be better at 4ms response time then the N81... 8ms).......

clngu, fL level of LG PG60 is equals 0.0084fL. which is very impressive and is basically equal(lost abit) to the 11G Panasonics(0.009fL) but nether can beat the 8G Kuros with their 0.004fL rating....and dont even think about comparing these to the upcoming 9G Kros with 0.001fL and better minimum luminance levels."

Note : fL = foot-lamberts, measurement related to the brightness of a particular image and is equal to 1 lumen per sq. foot of screen surface.

No offense.. but that's a silly question.

There will ALWAYS be something better coming up.

That's technology.... if not how to sell?

For me, only look at waiting if next model is imminent.... within a month or at most two.

If you can really afford to wait longer, that means that you're not ready to buy (again not an insult - as no problems about not buying).

After all, many of us do have good TVs already.

Personally, I would have still kept my clunky CRT in my TV room if not for the fact that I was shifting house.

Fact is that many of us primarily use our TVs for Astro.... and unfortunately that's still in 4:3 and limited quality.

If getting lcd/plasma primarily for home cinema, I agree that projector is the way to go for those who can afford it.

I suppose to get Pioneer 508 (Kuro 8th Generation) this week ... but when I look at 509 (Kuro 9th Generation) specification ... I prefer to wait for few months

509, 1920X1080p Full HD at 100Hz, release in June 2008 ... 508, 1365x768 HD

509 featuring black levels 5 times deeper than 508

509, 9.4cm (3.7") thinness, reduced by nearly 20 percent over 508

509, 14-bit panel driving (508, 12bit panel driving) ... Panasonic latest PZ8xx series, 12bit panel driving

509, native contrast ratio around 40,000 or above, ansi around 8,000

Conclusion, this is the best ever Plasma being made so far smile.gif

VGA can easily wallop higher than full HD res lah! vmad.gif

full HD is 1920 x 1080.

VGA can still drive 24+" monitor at 1920x1200!!!

Don't get confused between cable/connection type and resolution.

You can easily pump crap resolution through HDMI or DVI............. tongue.gif

Anyways, the only problem you will face is HDCP - ie. content protection. If you try to output protected content - you won't be able to get full res.

But if you using desktop/games/own movie files/whatever, shouldn't be a problem.

Having said that - 1 point to note.

Even though an LCD monitor is say Full HD 1920x1080 - it doesn't mean that it WILL DEFINITELY take PC input at that resolution.

You have to check the specs for specific models.

picture quality wise?

Dependent on the quality of your VGA cable and cable length, etc etc, you may or may not notice a difference.

In theory - if you're talking about simple home use with 'std' cable lengths - ie. your computer right next to your monitor, you prob not going to notice a difference.

Don't be too quick to jump on the surely digital is better.

Best thing to do - don't get your conclusion from Internet forum.

Go and test it out with your own eyes lah.

Ask them to play Astro, normal DVD and blurays and see how each performs.

Then just make the choice (and stop comparing after you buy!)

2. addtioanl HDMI port
3. SDHC card slot

btw hamtai on 1080p upscale really not bad wahhahahaha

your PV80H is not Full HD ... so the source better put as 720p ... if you upscale it to 1080p ... looks worse

The following is the additional stuff in PV80h:

1. swivel stand
2. addtioanl HDMI port
3. SDHC card slot
4. shinny bezel

Besides the above the rest is the same.
*
err swivel stand meaning we have a controller that can change the angle of the stand horizontally? or use manual hand?

It actually depends on the aspect ratio of the movie.

remember that your screen is 16:9 - so movies that are encoded in 16:9 - e.g. Apocalypto will show full screen.

Others like 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 or something else will still have black bars above and below.

To me - no point to zoom as you will loose out image left and right.

Just watch it at the aspect ratio that is meant to be.

I don't understand, why they have so many standards in screen sizes?
Can't they just stick it to 16:9 which all new HDTV comes in that size?

Manual adjust the direction of the stand.
Bezel is the frame of the plasma.

guys i was at HN Pavilion today. the salesman there recommended Samsung PS-42Q91HX (6999-1700=5299). he demo a disc for me to compare. The demo disc shows fast panning (remember that test during the Panasonic show at Sunway to show LCD vs Plasma - yes it something like that).

the Samsung which has this Real Motion Studio mode clearly shows the fast moving objects, letterings, etc runs by smoothly. The other plasma screen macam LCD like that (imagine if LCD lagi teruk). this plasma has a black panel too like pioneer's.

what's up?

This morning, I dropped by your enemy's shop in SS2. The salesman, or should I say salesboy is poor in PR.

He told me to get 1080p if watch BD. No point getting 720p display. That means, if you are watching Astro and DVD with no HD source, no point getting LCD TV or plasma?!

If seems that if you wanna buy something from Harvey Norman, you need to do some homework, just incase.

I asked Harvey Norman about Sony LCD W series as well, other shops give away 1 HDMI cable and 1 BRAVIA bag, but Harvey Norman says they don;t have it. After the sales person discuss with their management, they say it's ok to give me.....but then I only inquire nia, not really wanna buy just yet tongue.gif

Some TVs have 'undefeatable' dynamic backlight adjustments.

I'm not sure about the Sharp - but MANY manufacturers use this...... Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi.....

maybe even EVERYONE?

Not many ppl want to have a big grey screen showing when it's blank.

You'll probably have to live with it if you've done your best with the settings.
