Guys,

I am in the market for either a LCD or plasma 40-42". Was only thinking at one time the sony W or V series but saw my friend hitachi plasma tv & was amazed by how sharp it was when seeing astro...I dont remember LCD being that nice under astro. Anyhow I am caught between the sony LCD & the pana PV80 or pioneer 428. Looks like I am leaning towards plasma as I watch more astro & movies and sports. However two things worry me about plasma; burn in & durability. I am told that plasma screen are not so durable compare to LCD & some even advise touching plasma screen is not advisable....Any comments? unsure.gif

the reason I am worry about durability especially on the plasma screen as the item will transported overseas when I get transfered soon. Dont want to trsnport something which is too fragile. Going to a place where there is no way in hell to repair the tv if kaput cry.gif

I suppose to get Pioneer 508 (Kuro 8th Generation) this week ... but when I look at 509 (Kuro 9th Generation) specification ... I prefer to wait for few months

509, 1920X1080p Full HD at 100Hz, release in June 2008 ... 508, 1365x768 HD

509 featuring black levels 5 times deeper than 508

509, 9.4cm (3.7") thinness, reduced by nearly 20 percent over 508

509, 14-bit panel driving (508, 12bit panel driving) ... Panasonic latest PZ8xx series, 12bit panel driving

509, native contrast ratio around 40,000 or above, ansi around 8,000

Conclusion, this is the best ever Plasma being made so far  smile.gif

Depends on who you ask  thumbup.gif
And of course the $$.
For anything sub 5K there isnt any fullhd plasma panels. Dunno about lcd though.
The sifus may have a better answer. Am looking for a plasma too.
I tested the kuro 42" but not impressed probably the source no good, but then again my own sources are ahem..  whistling.gif
So I am leaning towards the pv80 but yet to test the newly launched koreans, heard they are really good too.

Also look at kuro 42" but suprised you not impressed as Pionner has always the best rating for plasma......however everytime i gone to senq, best denki, etc.....somehow it doesnt look as nice as sony lcd, etc...must be the setup, adjustments or source they use....having 2nd thoughts about getting pioneer now... unsure.gif

yep, kuro means deep black in japanese.
however, to inform everyone, the pioneer full HD model will soon be beaten by panny full HD 42PY800.
this is proven in panasonic plasma factory in Amagasaki, Osaka.
(kuro in panny 42PY800 > kuro in Pioneer full HD model)

*i should have taken the video clip to show everyone here but it is prohibited to camera-ing..sigh cry.gif
*
curious....those who own the kuro 42" sets in the forum...stupid question....are you happy with the PQ??

Hey guys.....my pioneer 428 finally arrived thumbup.gif ....still playing around with the setting...picture looks good but still finding the optimum one. have put the brightness, contrast, etc are low to 'burn in' the plasma as recommended....just curious..the manual says to avoid certain static image but how to avoid logo like HBO, STAR MOVIE, CINEMAX, sprts channel etc.....logo is always there....need to really worry about it ? unsure.gif
