What is the model number of the PSP Slim & Lite?

The series model number for the PSP Slim & Lite system is PSP-2000.

Although the physical size of the battery in the PSP Slim & Lite system is smaller, you will get the same battery life for gaming, movies and other functionality as you did with its predecessor.


Can I charge PSP Slim & Lite with a USB connection?

Yes, you can charge the PSP Slim & Lite from your PS3 or PC via a USB cable when it is in "USB Connection" mode.

The internal memory capacity of the PSP is doubled in the Slim & Lite system to 64Mb.


Will loading times be reduced?

PSP Slim & Lite is equipped with more internal memory and an enhanced feature to temporarily store game data from UMD. Although the effect will vary between titles, you should find that load times are generally reduced during game play.


Does the PSP Slim & Lite have a video out port?

Yes, the PSP Slim & Lite has a port that will allow you to output games, UMD movies, pictures and other media in standard resolution (4:3) and widescreen (16:9) to your TV.

Once your PSP Slim & Lite is connected via the appropriate cable (see below) to your TV, go to Settings > Connected Display Settings to switch the output between your TV and PSP.

The maximum resolution for viewing external video is 640 x 480 pixels.


What cables are required for TV and video output?

If you have a progressive-scan enabled TV, you will need a Component cable. The Component cable supports all PSP content.

If you have an interlace-scan TV, you will need an AV or Composite cable. The Composite cable supports all PSP content, with the exception of game content.

So I can view PSP games on a TV using video out?

Yes, but you will need to use a Component cable (sold separately) (see above) to view games played using PSP Slim & Lite on a progressive-scan enabled TV.

You will not be able to view games on an interlace-scan TV or with an original PSP.


Will my existing PSP headphones work with the Slim & Lite?

To use your existing PSP headphones with PSP Slim & Lite, you will need to disconnect them from the remote control cable and plug them directly into the headphone socket. Fully compatible headphones will be released soon.

You will be able to use standard stereo headphones with PSP Slim & Lite.


Will the new GPS and Camera, in-car cradle and microphone peripherals work with the Slim & Lite?

Yes, the GPS, camera, in-car cradle and microphone peripherals are compatible with both versions of the PSP.

if i were to connect the psp lite to a lcd tv that it able to upscale the reslution of up to 1080i would the pics form PSP lite be nice? say outputting at i think most 720P?

This is very important. If you're running 3.71 M33, don't use, I repeat don't use USB function to flash either your flash0 or flash1 nand either in the recovery menu or xmb. You'll end up corrupting your nand partitions and even worst your idstorage.

The most important thing for all PSP Slim & Lite owners....BACKUP YOUR NAND FLASH. This can be done with Despertar_cementerio v3 or nandTool or upNand64 and keep it in a very safe place. You won't know when you'll need it.

I've done some googling and found out that accessing recovery menu on 3.60 M33 will also brick it... is this true?

got my unit yesterday piano black as a belated birthday gift
- i find the web browser too slow
- the free hori screen protector not fitting very well
- true about the fingerprints magnet - i find the unit catches stain/oil too much its everywhere
- not really enjoying the 'demo' games i got - i feel like the need to look for simpler type of games - maybe im just inclined to sports type games

i've google around but no clue how to backup the nandflash - any help to us noobie. want to know more bout homebrew but again googling around making me more confused - truly a psp noobie lol

Hi, one of my fren bought his psp slim and brick it on the same day without knowing it.

May i know what is the caused of it because i do not want to repeat his steps.

He bought in the morning. Test ok before back home. When back at his house, he try to turn on the psp. Power green light up for 5 to 10 sec. No display on screen and finally power lights off. I was with my fren when he bought it. No Drop, No firmware flash, and No loading of any games.
I was shock to see this.

I think i saw a post where someone is selling off a brick white psp slim in lyn too. The reason, install theme is the caused. Will it be the same reason where my fren's psp are also having the same fate?

There's a bug actually in 3.71 M33 corrupting the nand flash if you try to write to it via usb connection. Normally people who wanted to mod their themes will try to access the flash0 folder to copy the files there via usb. This bug is due to SONY's new protection scheme on the slims...hahahaha way to go SONY.

Have you ever heard of nand or idstorage corruption on the old fat? The answer is no. The easiest way to backup your nand flash is by using a Pandora Battery and DA's DC v3. The backup will be named as nand-dump.bin into your MS. It will backup all 4096 blocks of the 64M nand flash.

I've already backup mine ...how about you guys? Better safe than later crying here to get help.

Hmm, tot, I tried to fit the normal fat battery into a slim, it's tight and the connector doesn't touch. Can't switch it on. Mind telling us how u did it? Or did u use original Sony 1800mAH Battery?

Anyone of you who are getting the new slim, make sure before you ask the shop to update to 3.71 M33 CFW, backup the nand flash of 3.60 OFW first and then you copy the file into your thumbdrive or what ever external storage you have.

Added on October 22, 2007, 2:49 pmYou must press it a bit hard to get it into the battery slot. I'm using SONY original 1800mAH Battery. Don't use third party/chaplang/cap chicken or clone batteries to make a Pandora Battery, same as the magic stick. Use original SONY MSPD.

- Web browser is slow because it's using 802.11b instead of the 802.11b/g protocol.
- 3rd-party screen protector, I suppose?
- It's been this way since the very beginning.
- Sports games? There are a lot of them waiting for you to try out (Tiger Woods PGA Tour (any year), Winning Eleven 9/Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and loads more)
- I suppose you can back your NAND up by using Pandora Battery.

* Pandora Battery is something that can bring a dead (bricked) PSP back alive.
* NAND flash contains your PSP's vital details, such as MAC address, serial number, etc. which is also called IDstorage
* DA is Dark-AleX, one of the greatest developers in the PSP homebrew scene.
* DC v3 is Despertar del Cementerio V3 which is a universal unbricker for the PSP.

Changing wallpaper is safe as it writes to flash1 from MSPD not via usb.

I'm using a silicone protector. Tried the crystal case but really don't like it seems it becomes a bit heavier...

1.how bout changing the theme on 3.71 M33? there is a theme setting where noobs like me can change the theme easily.

2. U mean transfering theme file to Flash 1 folder > VSH > theme will also brick the slims?

I'm having one slim but scare to touch the theme setting after my frens incident. Already into 3.71 M33 ...did not manage to get my nand flash? am i still able to get it?

Practical Usage Comparison between PSP fat and PSP Slim

I just got my PSP 2000 (piano black) 2 days ago and here are my first impressions.


Compared to the fat PSP the slim PSP seems a little too light for comfort. maybe its just me but with my old fat PSP (wrapped in capdase silicone case) I used to be more carefree and did not worry about dropping it. With the PSP Lite my hands automatically readjusts and handle it more lightly. (coz it seems more fragile)

Yes the back of the PSP Slim is a fingerprint magnet so im gonna have to cover it up soon.

I've noticed that the D-pad on the PSP-Slim has been improved to allow better diagonal movements compared to the fat PSP which was very hard to play diagonal movements.

Battery life on the PSP slim is quite amazing since even though the battery is smaller it still last just as long.

I welcome the USB charge feature so that I dont have use the 2 in 1 charge cable anymore.

for now ver 1.5 homebrews dont work so my emulator usage is pretty limited to the ones that can run on \GAME340 folders

Playing ISO's without UMDs so far so good and running PSX games are fine (playing GT2 and rival schools)

As long as you don't touch flash0falsh1 via usb you are safe. You still can make backup of your nand flash even though you already updated to 3.71 M33. The most important is to backup the nand flash while it is still in a working condition no matter on what FW you're on. I did mine on 3.71 M33-2 CFW.

I'm still new in this, it would be great if there is a step by step guide and *potential risk for doing a backup of nand flash.

i used to have a fat psp before but psp slims are too new for me. If i was not mistaken, theme file are store in flash1 ? or MSPD?
If MSPD, when i wanted to change theme, it will read from MSPD and copied into flash1? (i think my fren's psp brick because of this)

All the ptf themes are safe as they are offcially supported. The unsupported themes involving flashing some .prx / .rco files to the flash1/flash0 folders via usb. These themes are dangerous.

Your friend's psp brick because he flashed some files via usb to flash1...I don't believe it will brick with no reason..

To be frank, i'm with my fren all the time. Starting from he bought the psp and went home with him. Did not even open the psp after sticking the hori protector. once home, just power on for the first time, and it so called bricked. Power led still on, but no display. Few seconds later, poer led went off.
Tested on the spot, everythings fine. The last thing done on that psp is changing the theme from a collection of theme (not via usb, no usb attach). Then power off and proceed to screen protector.
I would really like to know the caused. if anyone knows anything about it.
The most answered reply would be "It is impossible not to touch on the flashing or software and bricked." but it was so true. Unit is totally new.

ya, may be. But both of us test on the spot. everything fine. i dunno whether can be repaired or not but was scared of mine.

It can be unbrick..the chances are like 70-30. try to use DC v3. I've unbrick one before but that guy bricked it again until the idstorage is damaged but still I managed to unbrick it but after that the slim lost it's wifi, umd and playing games and homebrews from MSPD capabilities. His psp slim can only play mp3 and mp4 files..

1. i am already on 3.71m33, not intending to flash etc (yet), so nothing to worry bout flashnand corrupt right?
2. when i connect the usb cable, and go to usb connection, then connection established, i am accessing the memory stick folders right? this is nothing to do with the flash nand memory right?
there are a few folders, i know ISO folder for backup games, music folder for my mp3, picture folder for my photos, video folder for mp4 videos (have not tried yet). btw there is another video folder in ISO (what is this folder for?)
there are two more folders with subfolders
- MPROOT folder with subfolders but empty
- PSP folder with subfolders - theme folder (is this where u put any additional themes?), the rest of the subfolders i dun think need to be tinkered

any tips on the above is appreciated

btw i just installed Fifa08, and Virtua Tennis, and Worms - i think i am going to enjoy these titles. MSG and Splinter Cell at this point too complicated on the PSP for me

wrong...nandflash corruption can occur randomly while using CFW. So better backup your nand.

so far I've put an MP4 movie renamed it to Constantine.mp4 and put inthe "video" folder in the root directory and the video plays just fine

yes...for psp slim if idstorage is corrupted then it's screwed as you must use the same psp slim nand backup. for phat you can use other psp fat nand to restore. psp slim is very vulnerable to brick. some sort like sony had put some virus... can't stress more, backup your psp slim nand.

got question here, issit the idstorage is different for every set of PSP SLim? so that idstorage from other psp can't be flashed into another psp slim etc.. ?

for the Fat, its NAND doesn't have the new encryption or digital signature on it, so you can simply copy the NAND from any other Fat PSP, but for the Slim is diferent story, I think the Slim NAND is mobo dependent, Sony has added digital signing to it, if idstorage is screwed up and no backup was found, then the Slim could be used as a paper weight apart from mp3/mp4 player

Now put memstick and pandora battery in your slim.

Then press the [] it will put you in the UPNand tool for the slim
then press R to continue.
then scroll to 2.write NAND and press x
then scroll to 2.write PSP NAND and press x
when its done follow the option on the screen.
Then reboot your slim with the memstick and pandora battery and do the typical install of 3.71m33 and your good to go.Also this app will let you use a backup of another slim's nand to fixed your corrupt psp slim (thats gr8 )

I asked around at Sg Wang, it costs RM550 for PSP Lite, battery and charger. Is this a good deal? Normally how big is a PSP game when stored in the memory stick?

i think its a good deal but you need to ask further coz usually they forget to mention that its an extra RM80-100 to "modify"

I really doubt it. Yes you can unbrick but after that no wifi, no umd acces and no games. Only can play mp3/mp4. Why don't you try it to prove me wrong. Got balls?

so basically its still the same.. cant fully utilise it for full brick after unbrick using another nand dump..

afaik, only can use one's own NAND/idstorage dump backup to recover from brick
in some cases, where the idstorage isn't corrupted, the PSP slim may be unbricked using other PSP's NAND dump

btw, where the heck is the idstorage? flash0 or 1?

arrhhh!!!The NAND,idstorage and other psp slim problem really make me confusing on weather still wanna buy slim psp o not le haiz...so worry le.If i buy the psp and brick it without knowing it then my psp = rubbish >.< its hard to find anyone tat can help to do this kind of things in kuching haiz

buy the one with 3.71 m33-2... or 3.60 m33 then upgrade it yourself. i bought 3.71 m33-2 for myself. my sister bought earlier than me, b4 3.71 came out - she bought the one with 3.60.. then i upgrade it to 3.71 m33-2.

3.71 m33-2 is the greatest coz you don't need to mess with your flash file when changing the xmb themes. no fear of bricking your psp! (like i did b4 with my phat psp...

changing xmb themes doesnt mess with the flash?? I thought it was the themes that was the culprit??

Firmware 3.71 got official theme changer u know....? Just download the *.ptf theme and paste it on PSP/THEME folder...and u're ready to go.

Do not. I repeat DO NOT flash dump to ur psp using another psp dump. It will corrupt the ID Storage.
The correct way to unbrick a bricked PSP slim is to dump the bricked psp slim using dcv3 (yes dump it even it's brick).
And hexedit out the idstorage and combine it with empty dump file before flashing it to the bricked PSP.

Attached is the empty psp slim nand dump (use 7zip or jzip to extract).
Just hex out the idstorage of the bricked psp slim and combine with this empty nand with partition information and then flash back to the psp, then use DCv3 to install 3.17 m33-2.

Caution! If u dont understand what is this all about, plz dun, I REPEAT! DO NOT TRY IT.

I'm not responsible for any further brick for trying the above method.
But this can restore the bricked psp slim with correct id storage.

First, I thought i found sumthing useful. But for myself, i do not need it. Just to share it out.
Second, I do not have intention for ppl to be a guinea pig for testing that out. (since the post mention it was tested)
Third, I was looking for method (temporary) not to brick psp slim as i was just got my hands on one.

Its not like i'm having a brick psp and do not have any guts or balls to try it out. I dun need it and i was looking for stuff to prevent and suddenly came across that new post.

U have a serious problem in expressing your thoughts using words! As for me, i appologize for posting sumthing Not USEfull to the community! So are u happy with it?

for me,
1. plug usb to psp, plug the other end to pc.
2. turn on psp.
3. go to psp setting and find "USB connection" on the selection
4. press X

after finish
1. press O on psp screen to turn off "USB connection"
2. unplug from pc.

*make sure ur battery is enugh during transfer.

yup in the settings menu of the XMB.

BTW.. I noticed that when connecting the USB Cable in "USB Connect" in xmb the light turns amber which signifies charging...but...

does the USB charging work during a game play? like the 2 in 1 cables used to do?

dont get discouraged who knows if any new information is "really new" but legit aswell. I certainly dont have time to scour the net looking for new tips and trick for the PSP Slim so again I thank the contributors of this thread again.

of course there are risks rite? and I'm certain that no lowyatians here would purposely mislead another member to brick another users PSP rite?

I too am very cautious with my PSP... so for the moment... so into tinkering with it.. just happy playing Pro Evo 2007

May i know the location of Flash0 or Flash1?
so i can prevent anything to do with it?

example scenario:
1. When i use USB to transfer songs or movie into my psp, i get to access a lots of folder which is i think is from MSPD. is Flash0/1 in there?

2. Izzit safe to use theme at the moment?

3. I have another new copy of MSPD, do i need to copy all folders from the first MSPD in order to use in my psp with CFW or it will auto re-create the folder inside?

now i feel safe to transfer the theme files~ =)

1. the default case u ll access the mspd only, unless u change the toggle USB settings in recovery menu
2. dunno
3. you can just copy the entire contents from the old stick to the new ones via PC, which I think is faster, also remember to format it via PC, so u can choose FAT, as PSP will format the 4GB to be FAT32, which will make the mspd extremely slow
