got my unit yesterday piano black as a belated birthday gift
- i find the web browser too slow
- the free hori screen protector not fitting very well
- true about the fingerprints magnet - i find the unit catches stain/oil too much its everywhere
- not really enjoying the 'demo' games i got - i feel like the need to look for simpler type of games - maybe im just inclined to sports type games

i've google around but no clue how to backup the nandflash - any help to us noobie.  want to know more bout homebrew but again googling around making me more confused - truly a psp noobie lol
*
Well, happy birthday. rclxms.gif
- Web browser is slow because it's using 802.11b instead of the 802.11b/g protocol.
- 3rd-party screen protector, I suppose? smile.gif
- It's been this way since the very beginning.
- Sports games? There are a lot of them waiting for you to try out (Tiger Woods PGA Tour (any year), Winning Eleven 9/Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and loads more)
- I suppose you can back your NAND up by using Pandora Battery.

...The easiest way to backup your nand flash is by using a Pandora Battery and DA's DC v3. The backup will be named as nand-dump.bin into your MS. It will backup all 4096 blocks of the 64M nand flash...

* Pandora Battery is something that can bring a dead (bricked) PSP back alive.
* NAND flash contains your PSP's vital details, such as MAC address, serial number, etc. which is also called IDstorage
* DA is Dark-AleX, one of the greatest developers in the PSP homebrew scene.
* DC v3 is Despertar del Cementerio V3 which is a universal unbricker for the PSP.

"The infra-red IrDA port has been removed."

sigh..sony should make good use of this feature...

if only they wanna make PSP as a media player as well, photo sharing, bluetooth, IrDA, wifi..
*
Yeah, I thought they could do something good with it, such as an official remote controller or something.

Q2: What the _#()$*)(#(*&$ is DADADADA?
*
DADADADA is an error message displayed when you try to update from a custom firmware to official firmware (i.e. V3.40 OE-A to V3.71).
(DA is derived from the initials of the coder of V3.40 OE-A, Dark-AleX)

IIRC, the only way to update your PSP to official firmware V3.71 is to downgrade from V3.40 OE-A to V1.50, then upgrade from V1.50 to V3.72.
(V3.40 OE-A > V1.50 > V3.71)

But if you want to update your PSP to custom firmware V3.71 M33-2, you can definitely do it directly from V3.40 OE-A to V3.71 M33-2.
(V3.40 OE-A > V3.71 M33-2)

For pros and cons of official and custom firmwares, please head to Sony PlayStation Portable for Beginners thread.

Yes, you are right.. I missed a step about updating to V3.52 M33-3/V3.52 M33-4 before going to 3.71 M33. Thanks for correcting me.. rclxms.gif

anyone know where else to get the silicon skin or crystal case?

in digital mall rm28...

which one is better, crystal or silicon?
*
Hmm.. For crystal case, I've heard some bad things about it: scratches. But then again, that's for the Phat (old) PSP, ages ago. Not too sure about the latest generations of crystal casings.

p/s: This thread is about slim psp...

The pros and cons of custom and official firmwares are still the same for both phat and slim PSPs, right? So it's OK to refer back to the thread for beginners. rclxms.gif

Go to Recovery Menu (assuming that you have Custom Firmware).

Under Registry Hacks, you will see the option. Change it.

If you have PSP Phat, the best firmware to run PS1 eboot is v3.40OEA or v3.52 M33-4 with some modification to the flash0.
*
Well, is the modification to flash0 really necessary to play PSX games? I'm using V3.71 M33-2, but I never touch the flash0 also. unsure.gif
