in my pov good deal for R7-5700U with that price. just that the laptop vent... is at bottom.. might need some raise to use to let the air flow properly instead put on flat table. for office usage and daily usage is fine.

Can we consider Lenovo Ideapad flex 5 is the best for daily use?
*
it depends on your usage. if you are commuting a lot, it might not convenient for you. need as portable as possible.
But for office usage and student usage,it is ok for them for daily use. but for casual game, might reconsider other option. Any laptop model range is ok for daily use. it just depends on your usage.
like, you commuting a lot, but getting 15" or 17" might give you trouble due to the laptop weight. its not convenient right; best for daily usage, well yes.. if your budget allow you get xps or limitted only to just ideapad, it still able serve its purposes for casual daily usage.

QUOTE(HexPhoenix @ Sep 23 2021, 06:36 PM)
Hi sifus

I want to buy a laptop but not sure what to buy now.

1. Budget: Strictly below RM5k. Around mid RM4k is good.

2. Usage: Work + casual game. Work involves crazy amount of Chrome extensions and tabs. My normal RAM usage is 15GB on normal basis. Don't suggest Edge, since my work binded with Google ecosystem.

Game - more on strategy stuffs. Civ 6, Humankind if possible. Low graphic is okay, but as long not stressing the CPU and GPU much. Can run FIFA21 would be great (low setting is okay, as long FPS is acceptable).

3. Requirement: If possible, ultrabook. Love the lightweight of it and the light charger.
RAM is upgradable to at least 32GB.
Internal storage of 256GB NVME is okay, but 512GB would be nice. Extra slot to add extra SSD later would be be best.

Prefer not to go for ASUS. Other brands is fine.
Open to Ryzen 4th gen / Intel 10th gen too. Older than that is too old, I guessed.

Actually liking Swift X... but:
I. soldered RAM... sweat.gif
ii. SG pricing... RM6k while Indonesia around RM4k plus... damn.
iii. That 3050.... brows.gif

Not sure other options yet at the moment.

Thank you! biggrin.gif

How long you can wait? laugh.gif its pretty hard get decent brand.. even custom like Illegear / Level51 make you wait at least 5-6 weeks. Then at least more choices to choose from.

How bout Legion 5?

Hi sifu plz recommend me a reliable budget laptop. My Acer 3 yrs only already give so many problems. No Acer plz.

1. Budget : <2k
2. Usage   : check email, update resume and some excel stuff. Watch online stream.
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : must be reliable not spoil in 3 yrs.
*
Normal usage like that should be fine.
Below miight be a good deal for you. at least can last couple of years before upgrade it again.

Which store is reliable on Lazada to buy laptop, e.g., Dell?
*
if dell, try see if DFO unit.. maybe cheaper... lazada and shopee both are ok... as long as official channel + authorized reseller. try pm any of them.
For lenovo itself, still prefer buy from their website.. incase you need unit can be customized. dell also unless buy from their website

next 3 yrs... have new stuff even better... + cheaper.. as usual when ddr3, ddr4 first introduce back then.. last for few years is pretty subjective, but i dont think software or all stuff will totally abandon anything on ddr4 right. wink.gif if you can save some for future use.. nice... anything current can last few years is good enough.. before resale to others? brows.gif just in my pov.. well, money is urs...

Yes enough....as far as i looking at this. it is enough.. if you have extra cash.. 32 Gb is great. but 16gb for time being is sufficient enough.

QUOTE(sluive @ Feb 7 2025, 12:13 PM)
Dear sifu, I am currently considering the following 2 options:

1. ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3405) Intel Ultra 5
2. ASUS Vivobook S14 OLED (S5406) Intel Ultra 5

Both very similar specs, price difference is small. But Zenbook 14 feels more premium and screen is 3K, 120 Hz. But Vivobook has extra USB-A and microSD port.

Anyone has experience with either of them? How would you suggest?

Thank you.
*
If i were you, zenbook is great.. not sure how freqeuent you use microSD port.. unless you willing to buy additional extension that can provide more usb port, network, display/hdmi.
zenbook indeed premium and focusing high end focusing portability with consistent computing power. it also better build quality

QUOTE(15cm @ Feb 12 2025, 05:40 PM)
Need 1 for coding/work
I already have a macbook m3 pro given by company, i am very impressed with it, and i want to find its windows equivalent
will be running
Docker
redis insight
postgres/mysql/mongo all that sstuff
vscode/cursor/atom/pycharm
python 3.12 and pip
npm and node
altium designer
android studio
arduino
dbeaver/postico
easyEDA
git
wireshark
all kinds of stuff but the most resource heavy should be Docker

will also dual boot ubuntu, either that or wsl
RAM - 16GB -32GB
SSD - 1TB
Processor - ideally 12 gen and above, no preference for i3, 5, 7
no preference on screen size, will plug in monitor to use anyway.

budget, given my spec, the laptop has to be 4k above?

there are lots of brands but i really cant decided, hp, lenovo, msi?
*
equivalent to mac m3 pro.
if you looking at portable too, then you can consider ThinkPad X1 Series , more power computing ThinkPad P Series.. if you using many of those many simulator, i think better to have 32Gb for future proof. SSD is up to you. but RAM 32Gb is seems like sweetspot at the moment. or running VM. if dual boot then 16gb is more than enough.

why lenovo??? consistent quality over the years so far. not regreting to get it. why not MSI as stated there, because the offering they have kinda off from what lenovo can offer and to fit similar segment with macbook, a little bit off.
for HP, how about probook, zenbook or omnibook.. see which one suits you.
