Hey guys,

Currently, my modem and wifi is downstairs, but the reception of wifi doesnt seem to be good upstairs. What is the best way to extend the range to upstairs? I dont mind buying extra equipments with wires that connect to the modem or router, but I am not very certain what kind of equipment I should be looking for, and which device to connect.

Thank you.

Also, since the Turbo, unifi notify me that my current router doesnt support up to the 500mbps upgrade that I have, so they gave me an option to buy from them.

But they dont say which model is it? Is there anyways to ask them before the technician come to install?

It doesnt really matter to me what brand or model really, jz that I want to make sure they can support the 5.0 ghz bandwidth.

Buy your own router. They will provide a router for you, but it won’t be able to support 500Mbps on WiFi, even in 5GHz. Refer to 1st page, 1st post, green text, for a lesson in basic home networking and list of recommended routers.

so i think i am going to change plan from 500Mbps turbo to 100Mbps lite... and i renewed the contract for another 2 years already.

and from the portal, it seems i can change plan through the portal.

i have few questions about the 100Mbps plan.
1. does i get any penalty?
2. will the 100Mbps @ rm129 increases in price , i think if i remember correctly, there will be +rm30 in the future

or i could decrease my monthly payment of RM179?

thanks all.....

1. no penalty. but your contract will be refresh again from the date you change package.
2. did not heard that, RM 129 is for fixed price, the +30 is when you want subscribe to UnifiTV Ultimate pack.

optic fiber cable by TM is tiny.. probably similar size like a standard USB cable,
or for better reference - Apple's Lightning cable thickness.

for installation, i suppose the installer would pull the cables first and only terminate the end
connection with the termination point/patch (not sure what it's called)

user posted image

my take is - assuming that you're doing in-wall casing/runway for your LAN cables,
the size of the runway/casing should be able to fit fiber cable too.

however, bear in mind that fiber cables might easily break (it's not metal wiring)
thus, avoid super tight turning angles.

those who have done in-wall runway might be able to advise you better.

What is the current practice of TM contractor when they pull the fiber,

1. For the outdoor fiber, do they just pull the shortest path from pole to the house outer wall and terminate into the fiber wall socket? If we need to run 10-15 meters along the house outer wall to reach suitable point to enter house, will they do it? Since we are not charged for the outdoor fiber.

2. Unifi installation video mentioned fiber wall socket (FWS), should this be installed outside the house? Or inside? Possible next to the BTU?

3. Will the contractor try to make the indoor fiber run longer than 50m so became chargeable?

1. TM does have penalty for downgrade of package last time. You should call 100 to check if the practice still apply for the RM129 package.
2. No price increase for the RM129.

1. Have to check their terms is it start charging from the point the fibre enter the house compound or inside the house. But usually they will take the shortest root to install, any extra requirement will be consider as non standard installation and will be charge.
2. So far what I have seen, the FWS is inside the house near the BTU.
3. Have not heard of such cases, so I assume no. But before they commence install, they will inform how they are gonna run the cable. So it's very important you ask everything clearly and state your preference if any. Then you decide whether to go your own way or follow their suggested standard installation. Sometimes, you can nego depending on the contractor, some are good some are cut throat one also.

Read 1st page, 1st post, green text, and you will learn much more. Change router and you will get the speed. Not sure why it take you weeks to finally achieve turbo speed.

Nope, powerline does not work cross the main switch most of the time.

I suggest mesh system as mesh system performs significantly better than wireless repeaters.

Just next door?
Pull a nice LAN cable and setup another AP there.
During my uni days, used to pull LAN cable across the back alley into another uni mate house so we can have LAN party all the time tongue.gif

the bolded parts... was it a a single deal 100+ultimate change?

if so, that's a package, u can't just downgrade back to ruby to save $.

if separate changes, had separate price increases, then u have a case to argue.
