hey guys...

my house is so called fiber ready, with fiber cables
1) outdoor - black from nearby common manhole to my house manhole
2) indoor - white from outside junction box to inside junction box

when TM came to install had a problem with outdoor cable and when they try to pull the underground conduit was blocked, they offered to run new cable for RM400 ohmy.gif
but the cable would be visible at some parts not concealed so I disagreed

since then my developer has dug up the conduit and found the blockage and cleared it, leaving it open so easy for TM to pull a new cable or splice as the current black outdoor cable seems too short. will they charge for this? would it be better for them to pull a new cable in the conduit. will they charge for this?

also internally I would like them to extend the white fiber modem about 2m meters, will they charge for this?

my developer also ran the telephone wiring to the same point but did not terminate the cables with phone jacks (2 nos.) so that I can plug both phone lines into the TM unifi modem. is this chargeable as well?

sorry for all the newb questions but i tried looking for it could not find any real answers...

Pull cable in the counduit should be normal installation aka free unless over the length.

Before this, they have small box to terminate the fiber inside the house. you can put this small box at current location and use another fiber from the box to modem.. I think supplied fiber to modem is more than 2m.

As for using internal phone jack it's will be chargeable. Dunno they interested to do it or not. it's quite simple you can DIY.

Hi,

I have got the free upgrade from 30mbs to 50mbs for quite sometimes now. I have no issue of getting 50mbs from wired connection but wifi speed stuck around 25-26mbs...

Reading from this forum, I need to upgrade the lousy tm router. I'm thinking of getting dual channel Asus or TP link.

However, since most of my gadgets are from appple ( iMac, iPad, iPhone) I'm thinking of getting apple Airport Extreme. So would like to get opinion, is airport extreme will solve my wifi issue? Or I should stick to tplink or asus router?

Asus or TPLink should solve your problem. I've got some apples like MBP, iPhone& iPad. All of them have no issues with the router. Mine is TPlink AC1200 from TM.

Before that, you might want to use 5GHz band which probably will solve the issue.

for that kind of money you gonna spend on Apple Airport Extreme, better buy ASUS, not that Apple is not good, but u will rage seeing there's not much to configure and extra features available.

Hi all,

Recently my Unifi was upgraded from 30Mps to 50Mps too. But I notice a significant increase in intermittent internet loss from time to time.

Not sure if it is just line quality or something wrong with my settings or router? I am using the new TM router white box without antenna and living in a condo using copper wire. Previously the intermittent problem not this bad. I also changed my chrome dns to auto since someone mentioned here it might be due to the dns problem. But same problem exists. My bro in law claims it might be due to the frequency of the wifi used, ie too many people in my condo on the same frequency... not sure how this is affecting the intermittent problem though...

Questions:

1. Is this just line problem with TM? Or my equipment?

2. If it is my equipment or setting, what should I do? Is changing the router helps? If so what is the recommended brand (as in plug and play, I not technic enough to configure...)

Many thanks.

Apple already step out from router business, they no longer want to produce... better stay away from those old stock that you may find smile.gif
why buying something that the maker no longer want to involve making it?

with Airport Extreme money, you can get a very good Asus router biggrin.gif

As mentioned before, use the 5GHz band, and you will get the full speed, and don't bother with Apple AirPort Extreme. Stick with TP-Link if you're on a budget, and go with Asus if you have a higher budget.

Answers:

1) Hard to say without looking at your equipment and settings, but it could be as your brother in law say, too many interference as you're living in a condo and your Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz band is very congested. It can be contributing to your problem as every wireless access point that are sharing that same channel as your router are fighting for frequency space.

2) Before you do anything, download a wifi analyzer app on your phone (Wifi Analyzer by farproc) or computer (Acrylic WiFi) and see how many WiFi channels are being used and how many wireless access points are using that channels. I would not change the router yet, depending on the result, but I would go into your router, and try configuring the 5GHz band to be used, and only use the 5GHz band and it's corresponding channel, for a more stable connection.

Like to know whether it is system wide issue or just my line.

Last week, I had slow speed for 1.x day. Later, checked the speed, normalised to 32 Mbps.

Today, slow speed again. Cannot even do the speed test.

Slow on PC and also on TV box.

Just me or many others as well ?

If just me, then I will call TM.

Thanks.
