As I am also starting to do squats soon....I found this earlier.
Hope it helps. My friend is guiding me about squatting too =D
Good on you.

Take your time to build up the strength, don't worry too much on how many kgs you can squat.

In fact, I doubt anyone started out squating heavy on their first day or the first month for that matter.

* If you do wanna try slightly heavier by all means that's alright as well, just get your friend to spot you in squats. Some guy (back in Melbourne) taught me a method to spot people squat (it looks kinda gay) by holding the hips and slightly push upwards but it actually works.

Your job as a senior member is to educate, not to ridicule and condescend. Really? Squatting utilizes arms to "push" weights. That's something i've never heard before.

So... just because it's a compound exercise, it has to work the whole body? A compound exercise means a multi joint exercise, which does not mean it will work the "whole body". It's sad that after spending so much time here and being a wise ass and labeling yourself as a "bodybuilder", you still can't even get yo basic definitions right.
I don't think you'll ever get 18 inch arms CandleJack/King83. Maybe you assuming you've bought a bb.com shirt online and choking over the sink force feeding yourself chicken breasts labels you as hardcore? What've you got to show for it?
C'mon, post a pic of yourself wearing that bb.com shirt for all members to see. We'd like to see you do bb.com justice by being their official mascot. This should be funny. =)

Btw, I've said it once, I've said it again, fatcepts do not count. Cut the attitude on the newbies.

I'm a big guy naturally. I started out with 13 inches arms.
After 15 months, my arms are currently 15.6 inches...
i didn't think it was that big a deal cos i know i can get a lot bigger cos i'm
generally bigger.... but the big man here doesn't think so, he wanted "proof"
if u ever claim u have 16" arms.

but whatever... enough of history lessons.
Ask him personally why he hates me cos i've got nothing against him.

Hey, I'm good. Nice arms bro. I just love the ownage everytime CandleJack/King83 pulls things out of his ass. I don't need to argue with him. All i need to do is quote the correct idiot things he says and it's off.

You know what'd reduce the frequency of the whole darklight bashes candle(oh come one, we can all see who you are... your name is right there in your possible dupe acc list) for bashing a noob? Stop calling people noobs, that solves everything. So what if he IS a noob? Bask in the glory of his nubidity(I made that up tongue.gif can also be spelled noobidity) and enjoy knowing what you know and if you want to share what you know, do it without poking him.

You're only getting bashed by darklight because you give him reason to, callin people noobs and crap. I don't care what happened way back when, but if you don't get all "I know more than you thus have a right to flame you", he won't go "well in that case, i know more than you and thus have the right to flame you too".

This is all getting a little off(and by a little i mean waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay) off topic, so no more bashing after my post.

Well said. Seriously, the elitist mentality sickens me. Thank goodness there're still many level headed regs around.

but then saying arms doesn't come into squats is wrong too. even to its resting on your back, u still need ur arms to keep them on your traps and stabalize it when u squat up and down.. if your arm totally dont play a role in your squats, then we can literally squats with just the bar on the trap and hands in our pocket. and stabalizing more than 100kg on weight definitely will build some muscle./

Yes and no. We're talking about functionality vs everything else (Synergists, Dynamic Stabilizers, Stabilizers, Antagonist Stabilizers)
I'm sure you recall me posting a pic of a man born without arms and being able to squat several hundred pounds. In that ideal sense, the arms may be redundant in his case.
About correlation of arms growing due to squats, the biomechanics are a whole different story.

Ook, let's stop this now.

First of, I'm not biased(were, I'd have flagged you for warnings the moment you started bashing the other guy), I'm simply lazy. So to say that my actions(or lack of) are prejudiced because I'm friends with darklight is somewhat incorrect. Big difference between being lazy and being biased towards someone.

Second, if I flag him, I have to flag you cause you bash noobs practically every other day and he only bashes you. So, it all get's messy and I have to start flagging everyone cause they also on occasion go at each other and it get's messier and ugh, mafan la.

In short, I flag him, I flag you and half the health forum and you all get warnings. And we all know some people have managed to get on the bad side of certain admins/staff and they'll obviously get it worse.

Which is why I said something to the effect of, "don't start nothing, won't be nothing" (iirc) nearly half a year ago, if noone bashes anyone else, they don't get bashed in return. What goes around comes around but if nothing went round to begin with then you don't have testicle munching aliens coming around to bite your nuts off.

Now, in the event that you get flammed and are unhappy about it, REPORT IT. I'm not always here and/or don't necessarily want to hassle myself with clean ups, reports, flaggings and other crap. If you think I'm being biased, REPORT IT. We always love a good infernal affairs event and mod sacking drama is always good for popularity ratings.

ETA: BTW, Candle if you noticed after my post Darklight didn't bash, he simply stated that he didn't like people with elitist mentalities. I mean, just to be a nitpicker here, but weren't you the one who bashed first after I said not to?

ETA2: Minor thread clean up @ 2:24pm.

It was never fun when you were around. Sorry to say that all you did was put down anyone you can just for the heck of it without any consideration of anyone's feelings. We put up with you, adviced you and even told you off but nothing changed.

You'll just create a new account and start the cycle all over again because you LOVE putting people down.

He does the crap over and over again. Then leaves for a few days, creates a new account and starts posting crap again.

QUOTE
John Wanamaker, founder of the stores that bear his name, once confessed: "I learned thirty years ago that it is foolish to scold. I have enough trouble overcoming my own limitations without fretting over the fact that God has not seen fit to distribute evenly the gift of intelligence."
Wanamaker learned this lesson early, but I personally had to blunder through this old world for a third of a century before it even began to dawn upon me that ninety-nine times out of a hundred, people don't criticize themselves for anything, no matter how wrong it may be.
Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person's precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment.

sad thing is he's not like that in real life. He thinks he can get away with anything as long as he's online.
