I mean I haven't done a real squat with a barbell.

Anyway I'm watching a few videos already and asking another bb friend.

I'll try it out on my legs workout day next week: Weds.

Finally I can concentrate on working out after my 10KM run. I hope to see some improvements with this gym.

Squat is nice. much nicer than leg press.

You're the noob.
But since i'm trying to save this forum from being all sarcasm
and no explanation, i'll tell you why.
You're a noob bcos u think squats = leg only.
Maybe becos u've never squatted heavy before. When u go heavy,
u will utilize ur arms to push the weights up too. Afterall, it's a compound exercise.
And squat is one of those exercises that improves overall mass.
'cos face it, if you're a stick figure guy, u'll never be able to get 18" big gunz...
big gunz comes with big everything.
*
Your job as a senior member is to educate, not to ridicule and condescend. Really? Squatting utilizes arms to "push" weights. That's something i've never heard before.

So... just because it's a compound exercise, it has to work the whole body? A compound exercise means a multi joint exercise, which does not mean it will work the "whole body". It's sad that after spending so much time here and being a wise ass and labeling yourself as a "bodybuilder", you still can't even get yo basic definitions right.
I don't think you'll ever get 18 inch arms CandleJack/King83. Maybe you assuming you've bought a bb.com shirt online and choking over the sink force feeding yourself chicken breasts labels you as hardcore? What've you got to show for it?
C'mon, post a pic of yourself wearing that bb.com shirt for all members to see. We'd like to see you do bb.com justice by being their official mascot. This should be funny. =)

Btw, I've said it once, I've said it again, fatcepts do not count. Cut the attitude on the newbies.

It's alright. His elitist attitude sickens me. He assumes just because he's picked up a few tips and did a lil bit of research, he can act like a professional bodybuilding competitor.

aiya. actually i say squat for big arms is because..

1st, training the quads promotes growth hormone.. and squat is the king of leg exercise.. so more growth hormone, bigger arm size.
2nd, it is said u need to put on 10-20lbs of overall body lean muscle to add 1 inch on your arm.. and quads is one of the bigger muscle group..
3rd, charles poliquin once said.. if your arm training reach a plateau, start training your leg for few weeks then come back to arms training, you will breakthrough your previous measurement.
4th, i dont have article or facts to back up, i just read them sometime ago. tak de sauce

for me the only support for the bar during the squats is the traps/rear delts...
the only help from the arms is from pushing the bar down against the back so it doesn't slip.
pushing the other way round sounds funny to me and it can't even imagine an angle to do it, post me a video would'ya

but then saying arms doesn't come into squats is wrong too. even to its resting on your back, u still need ur arms to keep them on your traps and stabalize it when u squat up and down.. if your arm totally dont play a role in your squats, then we can literally squats with just the bar on the trap and hands in our pocket. and stabalizing more than 100kg on weight definitely will build some muscle./

Jones and i are different in the sense that his arms continues growing with no/little direct arm work.
I can't.... i still need to do hit my arms hard with every curls out there to grow.

so just experiment and find out what works for you.

anyway i just come to realize that we might be talking about 2 different squats here, thats why it's hard to visualize...
the high bar and the low bar squats are two completely different beasts i believe

*edit*adding in, i also realized that we wasted a few pages having nothing to do with progress pictures tongue.gif
