you'd be surprised to see how well their cool&quiet, cstates, etc. working once you slot a renoir or probably cezanne into your board.
but since those are plagued by low cache this is also no solution (apart from the availability)

I remember it is working quite well on the 1000 and 2000 series. Only zen2 onwards it became problematic. Maybe it's because of the chiplet design?

yeah I think so, the io die seems to be the main factor. the monolithic renoir really not too bad. can build a massively energy efficient system with that.
I've seen ppl having idle system! draw of sub 10W with a pico psu and renoir.

Well they are specifically designed for low energy systems afterall. To be honest, i got into ryzen also specifically for building a 4L high efficiency itx that will be using a small flex psu. But the zen2 idle powerdraw is much higher than anticipated so I fell into a rabbit hole of parts upgrades and facing quite a number of problems along the way. Maybe my experience would be different if i used a zen+ instead of zen2 which was the original plan. But it is what it is. Never would have expected that I ended up with intel again despite being quite supportive for ryzen initially.

.......Finally people start to ask about the strange Zen 3 SOC power consumption as I reported before.

IIRC from some readings at OCN, AMD enable uncore oc mode by default (regardless if you turn it on or off) at some point, hence it broke the SOC powerstates making it run at constant freq and voltage and not lowering down during idle. Let me I can find some posts about this and paste it here later.

Nonetheless its true that the effects are more perceivable on vermeer vs matisse, even if that change by AMD was done during matisse era

Interesting.
I will be waiting for your post on the SOC part. notworthy.gif

Still, I am unable to figure out why my 5950x CPU Core Voltage (SVI2 TFN) seems to stay at 1.475V for most of time while my 3950x can idle just fine. hmm.gif

I think this post #18 was one of it, but the info on "soc powerstates broken because of uncore oc enabled by AMD" is buried in the middle of that post sweat.gif

Hi All,

Currently i'm using 2700x with msi x570 gaming plus, previously my x470 gaming pro carbon was spoilt and send for RMA during MCO period, hence I have to buy x570 in order to continue to use with 2700x during mco.

Since now I got an extra M/B, was thinking to upgrade 5800x and sell off my 2700x bundle with x470.

Is it worth to upgrade 5800x now? I found lazada seller selling around 2299 now although slightly higher than srp.

Also understand 5000 series is the last gen for AM4 socket, so after upgrade this would be last me for another 3 yrs I guess.

i use haswell 4770k until today, my 5900X gonna last me another 10 years and beyond i believe/hope sweat.gif

All new platform has a very expensive ENTRY fee as history has shown us from 1st gen ddr3 to 1st ddr4 and to 1st ddr5.

unless you are chasing the top 1% every year, i believe its a good upgrade since you had the others item already.

Since this will be last gen that support the mobo, might be better to get 5900x that have more cores but not much expensive than 5800x. If can find the CPU.

Not really chasing high. Just tat i had extra m/b, so thinking to upgrade and sell off 2700x. Otherwise may think to setup nas with 2700x at later time just feel wasted... 😏😏😏 Hahaa

5900x price around 3k and above, diff by almost RM1k which over my budget. That's why looking at 5800x.

Price won’t drop already. That’s kind of the new revised MSRP.

I think there are people in Garage Sales selling Amazon units for RM2.0k. I'm surprised the x570 supports 2700X, didn't knew that haha!
I'm also using the 2700X and think that if you play high FPS games, then the 5800X is kind of worth and will age better than 5600X.
I also think the 5900X is too expensive, and it'll be a LONG time before games eats up more than 16 threads.

GPU has more cores and faster than CPU, most expensive instruction are running on GPU, at higher resolution are GPU bound.
hence, games and mining are running on GPU, even your browser already utilize your GPU more than CPU now, because of ever increasingly complex web content.

Directx 12 and Vulkan made a lot of change to ensure low driver overhead, more draw call.
CPU wont be fully utilized by games, it will just need to be fast enough to pass the commands to GPU and run the games codes that are still in x86 instructions.

Hi guys, has anyone purchased a tray processor before? First time buying tray processors for cost saving. I Can't test it out yet as I'm waiting for the gpu.. Hopefully it's all fine..

The other option would be top up rm200 and get the 3600x as the retailer is out of 3600 chips..
