What is Gunpla?

Gundam Models refers to plastic and non-plastic model kits depicting the mechas, vehicles and characters of the fictional Mobile Suit Gundam universe. These kits have become popular among anime fans and model-lovers, especially in Japan and in other nearby Asian countries since 1980s. The popularity of Gundam models increased in the 1990s with North America and Europe being exposed to Gundam through television, video and manga. These Gundam Models may also be called Gunpla (ガンプラ Ganpura?), a portmanteau of "Gundam plastic model". "Gunpla" more commonly refers to the practice of building Gundam models, rather than the models themselves.

Congrats on the new thread.

I just need a confirmation.

MG Double X is a March release. MG Hyaku Shiki is May.
MG Fenice whathisname is June.

So Bandai skipped april?

I'm assuming it's because we have 2 big releases which is the RG 00 Raiser and the Re/100 GP04 in that month.
or is it the Re/100 release is replacing the MG release?

Non definitively, sometimes they just skipped MG release for no clear reason. Up until this date they have skipped January and April for MG release.

it's unlikely they will release same robots in same scale but different grades.

what i see is design complex robots will be RE to skimp on inner parts & save costs, while standard robots will continue to be MG for 1/100.

Most likely.. i think they used back old tech and improve upon it so we get stable, massive kits without the mass/weight destroying the legs/polycaps

Seriously hoping that there will be 00QT sad.gif

If we follow the trend that PG > RG, it doesn't add up. But we also had non-PG kits being made to RG line like Freedom, Justice, Exia and Zgok, so I'm torn hmm.gif

Nothing about the 007s yet but P-Bandai to be expected.

my mistake, used to own 00 Seven Sword and the gun and sword stack on both GN Drive really resemble 00 Raiser silhouette
and that is X-2 Kai, Kai ver have different booster and armament but knowing Bandai normal X-2 will also gets exclusive release

Msia has won b4 back when its still called BAKUC, we also hav multiple runner ups.

We actually hav some of the best modelers in the world, the runner up in our regional qualifier can actually win in the other region.

Modellers in Malaysia are not like Modellers in Japan, they all very low profile only show up when got competition.

They rare show their work online compared to HK/Japan/China modellers.

Returning newbie trying to improve on gunpla modelling here.

Would like to ask which local shop has the most selection and stocks of official or even 3rd party Water Decals for both 1/100 and 1/144 scales.

Is Gamers Arena a good place to visit for those decals?

Gamers Arena was running out of decals last week I went.

Time Square has 3 places. 7th Floor Gamers Arena. 2nd Floor, Time Machine and Tamashi Nation.

Lowyat has Fantasy Toys

Sri Petaling has Glory System Enterprise. Inside Endah Parade.

Place with most selection is Gamers Arena. I think. Hope this helps.

seems like GA has starting to implement 6% into their items (that's expected)...
just check their website (if they open PO for RG 00 Raiser) and i notice some items price has gone up...like MG MSZ-006-3B Zeta Gundam Unit 3B-Type (Gray Zeta)...used to be RM368 and now is RM394, that's slightly over 6% increase...
would prefer to get from them, as they get stocks quite fast...
but since i'm bit worry on the GST impact, i might PO RG 00 Raiser from Gwing, which currently RM90...

Ive bought 2 decals, mg astray red frame and hi nu gundam decal which cost me 11.8usd + air register post that costs 4usd. They have another option that is normal air post which costs 2usd(abit slower i think compare to air register post). item arrived at my place around 4-5days working time.

for those pre-cut decals, you can just buy from local online sellers, either in Facebook or Trade Zone here
as those pre-cut are mass produced by companies in China
only those non-precut and custom designed decals are printed by Samueldecals themselves

May i know if spray paint can produce the same effect as air brush if i'm only planning to color the surface and not doing any shading or clouding effects? And does topcoat do seal off scratches that is left from polishing the nub marks?

1st Q: depends on skill. As u spray the internal pressure drop and it tends to spit in burst, u nid take this into account and adjust to keep a consistent finish. Airbrush has constant pressure n doesnt hav this prob.

2nd Q: depends on what coat u r doing n how deep the scratches is. What flat coat does is to create a surface that is rough n uneven to scatter light to make the finish look dull, scratching the plastic is essentially doing the same thing as what flat coating does, so if u aiming for a flat finish look scratches or not it makes no difference. Gloss coat is the opposite, it's purpose is to fill in minor scratches to create a smooth surface to better reflect light making a shiny finish look. Gloss coating cant fix scratch marks that r too deep or surface that is too rough, hence this question is incomplete without specifying which coating u r trying to achieve and what grit of sandpaper u ended with.

Also try not to use the term "polishing" when what u really meant is sanding. Its confusing to us because polishing is associated buffing/wiping with polishing compound, an entirely different technique all together.

how do you use paint brush to paint large pieces? wouldn't it leave brush strokes?

brush paint only for small area & for matt finish only.
semi gloss or Gloss finish leaving a very obvious paint stroke.

use mr. color leveling thinner, will slow paint from drying to even the paint reducing brush stroke, longer time to do compared to spray-can/gun.
also, after using topcoat (I use matte), the brush stroke effect lessens smile.gif

hand painting waste a lots of thinner than airbrush, not a convenient way than spray can and airbrush
not to mention taking time to fixing the paint layer so its not too thick and too thin
and remove the brush stroke, the main problem in hand painting

its only for detailing small parts like eyes, and some tiny mechanical parts

While your 1st statement is true, the 2nd is arguable since people did manage to produce this:

The right one can be considered having a lot of small parts.
You'll have a hard time discerning if the parts's paint is level or even the same with another part. Also since he went with a dirty look, there's little priority for the paint to be level.

I dont said it is impossible, just why go for hard route?
would you paint something big like PG kit with only hand brush painting? wasting more time and money?

I used to hand brush painting too, until I goes spray can and later airbrushing(slow upgrade),
still using hand brush painting though but thats for detailing small part as I mentioned in my earlier post

You can, but it'll take a lot of effort and money like nazrul said. It really depends on the person's preference, skill and how many hours he is willing to spend on it. I've tried brush painting since last year till now, I am barely covering up the stroke lines LOL but it's a sense of pride when I do.

I think you learn different things while you do full brush paint and airbrush painting. But efficiency (whether materials or time) wise, I think airbrush wins any day.

@nazrul, YES, I would do that some day! It's a waste of time and money like you said but then again, I would be proud of my masterpiece when I do xD.

Maybe there's a misundersanding here. I'm not arguing the efficiency of paint brush vs air brush. We all can agree on that, air brush wins on all account.
But ONLY for detailing small parts? THAT is arguable.

I tried vallejo for hand brush painting some test parts (it works great by the way). But tbh, I rather spray paint for big parts and do hand brush for detailing. Handbrushing just consume lots of PATIENCE.

My bad, I've misunderstood your post. Well, again it's a matter of preference.

It's reasonable to assume that paint brush is only for small part because it's almost impossible to air brush small parts detailing. For big parts, due to the efficiency, it's logical that people will choose airbrushing. Hence, paint brush is only used for detailing small parts.

I disregard the efficiency though, pride of work xP.

how thats arguable? how to paint 1/100 figure pilot with spray can and airbrush?
if you can control the paint brush stroke on big part easily, its gonna be great
but thats wasting lots of retarder, thus not recommend way to painting whole part

not that I'm saying I dont appreciate hand painted works
but I pretty sure most of us here dont have much time with gunpla, even with straight build
let alone the time used on painting, hand painting take lots of time and patience to do it, something that even I and you cant archive
but some people willing to do it, then its up to them,

this is my latest work
1/700 plane, hand painted and took like hours to get somewhat good

well, some of us here like to custom mod their gunpla
and other may think its a waste time or money to do so,

I dont think I gonna get hurts by that, after all it is a hobby; so its natural to spend more time or money on hobby right?
so if my word somehow may get some misunderstanding please ignore it

you waste so much paint when airbrushing.

for handpainting you need to sand them more to get rid of brush marks.

use bigger brush? and make sure your paint is mixed with right proportion. too thin you end up wiping the paint everytime u brush on leaving uncovered areas, too thick the paint won't stick also, with right mixture the strokes will go away when the paint fuse together, but still need to sand off uneven paints.

anyone used those wall painting rollers? i wonder if it will give out Cast Metal effect?

not hard, just troublesome n borderline annoying for those wit big hands n fat fingers like me.

avoid the zakus n rx78, the rest r fairly sturdy n easy enough. If u'll build MG then RG is very similar just smaller.

There are lots of panel lines and parts separation in RG, that's why it gained the famous title of PG in 1/144 biggrin.gif

Not hard, just be careful with the frame, loose it up before assembling armor piece.

Suggest you to start with Aile Strike thumbup.gif

chances is zero
anyway MG is just RE1/100 with inner frame
just build experience is different
after you completed it, still the same thing

RE1/100 was made because these mobile suit have less chances to be in MG

Gray should be that the runners are all in gray.
clear chould be that some or all runners are clear. Clear colored or fully clear. Usually armor peices.

lol, i'm quite annoyed by how the seller is conducting the sales thread. needless to say he is hoping to get a HUGGGEEE profit from the sales, but without an opening price, most people don't even know how much those things are worth

he's just there hoping to make some quick cash, though i doubt a lot of people will want to buy seriously, most might end up just pm-ing him and asking for price instead whistling.gif

It's the anime version of 'deactivated Phase Shift armor' (in the anime, the phase shift armor is the thing that gives colors to a Gundam, sort of).

Limited, yes, unique, yes, but not worth much in value, that's what I think.

dont worth

if you want limited kit get the gunpla who marked as P-Bandai release
some of them more nice than this release,
this is just an old kit which have obsolete articulation and design

200 is fair for the set, but he's doing auction style so there might be a chance the price will be higher
but if you're a SEED fan, the novelty value is there.. each HG is about RM40 range anyway, so 5 for 200 is fair and it's a more limited item

the units are basically just light grey as appeared in the anime when they haven't turned on their phase shift armor.. whether you want to pick it up or not is dependant on whether or not you like owning these rather rare items versus how much you need to pay for them

Just google aile strike deactivate mode for reference. However, please remember that these are pre-Remaster HG version which have bad proportions and articulation. For what it's worth, only you can decide whether your money is well spent on.

If you really want a cool looking SEED kit, you should get the SEED Remaster version, newer and better proportion and articulation.

Hmm limited edition vs RM 200 >< actually was thinking of getting a hi-nu ver KA MG which do you think would be better. Oh by the way some of you mentioned that the articulation is bad. P-Bandai: Premium Bandai, refer to kits that r only sold via the online store. They dont ship to anywhere else other then JP n HK so no u wont get it in Msia (normally anyway). There r local sellers who manage to get hold of some stock but usually is limited in amount n sold in jacked up prices.

Bad articulation refers to limited range of movement in the joint.

Old sets of 5 HGs vs 1 MG, MG win by a country mile no contest. Also there is no reason to buy old kits when there exist newer counterpart.

before remastered and remastered are the same exact model, they just enhance the color,
after Gundam build fighter series, they roll-out with ultimate NEW HG Strike.

Left is the NEW HG strike,
Right is before remaster and remaster strike

before remastered and remastered are the same exact model, they just enhance the color,
after Gundam build fighter series, they roll-out with ultimate NEW HG Strike.
Left is the NEW HG strike,
Right is before remaster and remaster strike

I prefer hg nowadays, too lazy to build mg or rg, space limitation and budget limitation.

HG and RG for me.. MG too large to display, unless its for a unit i like

newer HGs look as good as a lot of slightly older MGs already and with a bit of paintwork they will look great as display pieces

Paint-related questions:

1. Where do you guys buy your paints? I'm looking at acrylics for hand-brusing and spray-can enamels for base paints.

2. Can craft acrylic paints that you can find in arts supply shops be used for painting gunpla?

3. I've read around and it seems that some acrylic paints will glob up if you try to thin them with water and some will thin just fine. Can the standard Tamiya paints that you can find in shops like Time Machine in Times Square be diluted with water?

4. What is the recommended ratio for thinning acrylic paints for hand-painting in Malaysia?

5. Is it safe to use spray-can top-coats on acrylic paint layers?

Um if you need Mr. Color paints for like an airbrush I can actually get them for RM10 each in bulk from a friend. Is that what you're looking for?

Well, I was actually wondering where you guys bought your paints. About seven years ago, I could get them in places like Toys and Hobbies, but since I've actually not built any Gunpla for so long, I'm kind of out of the loop and a bit miffed that most of the old places I went to are no longer around.

Can I assume then that you guys usually get it through mail order or contacts?

Go JS Hobby they have lots of options. Buy their Mr.Hobby arcylic/lacquer & a big bottle of Mr.Hobby Thinner. Gaia Lacquer seems more worth the price for it's volume compared to 10ml bottles.

I use arcylic but never use water to thin because water is much thinner & takes longer time to dry, and might not melt the paint fully compared to Mr.Hobby Thinner.

For thinning you have to test with brush so the paint is not too thin or thick. usually add 1 small scoop & try. problem with thinner is paint will become dry if you take too long time.

Tamiya paints are usually lacquer based so need Tamiya specific thinner.

Spray can got Lacquer & Arcylic based, also got Enamel & Polyurethane, all will melt acrylics but if you spray 2 coats of small mist far distance 1st (1-2secs), dry & full spray it should be ok.

It become pointless...

Now prepping for primer...
Even we have less seamline in MG, we constantly get mold line...

That's confusing as well. IMO the core fighter of RG Gundam seems harder to build than MG Gundam's because of the size.
The same for RG GP01 and GP01 FB.
Then again there are a lot of HG with core fighters like Age 3, V, crossbone, zz.

There are a lot of HG that are somewhat difficult. For example Unicorn.
You can search online shop like hobby search and look at the manuals.

That's right. Tamiya masking tape have good adhesive and stretchable. They don't easily come off, but can be peeled off easily. The most important is they did not leave any adhesive residue.

Separately it may cost more since poslaju nowadays did the count by volumetric than weight.
poslaju website have the rate calculator so you can check.

What do you intend it to be, purpose? Like stealth/ royal guard/ gladiator.
What kind of pilot you hope to pilot it? Like hotblooded, male, female?

If it is gladiator in arena with a hotblooded pilot. I suggest a flame color scheme.
If it is stealth, i suggest the ECOAS color scheme.
If it is proto type, maybe orange and yellow. With those caution decals.
if camouflage sniper then maybe forest green or any background blending color scheme.

Have a mixed feeling about Transient. It looked good in the anime but after looking up the reviews, I think 80% I'll pass.

they still do, but easily removed.

key point is they aren't as sticky as normal masking tape so they less likely tear off paints you're masking.

QUOTE(xein @ Apr 10 2015, 11:44 AM)
That's right. Tamiya masking tape have good adhesive and stretchable. They don't easily come off, but can be peeled off easily. The most important is they did not leave any adhesive residue.

If you did manage to get the 99% off coupon, which reduce the price by RM100
Then i do think it is worth.

Not sure if it is rare or not but don't really see much in the market.

anyone using Gundam Marker GM01 Fine? they seems to dry up the moment you write it and impossible to rub off, only way is to scratch them off with hobby knife.

i read you're suppose to be able to use rubber eraser to wipe them off. but i feel they are ever harder to remove compare to normal paint.

is this normal or is my marker old stock?

Not sure whether your pen old stock or not, but my pen works fine, easily erasable in the first 30secs? I think. Just use thumb only. Usually mistakes, I use cotton buds with thinner, it gets the job done.

It definitely is not normal.

that only happen when you panel lining using that marker on top of painted/top coated surface. normal OOB surface, can easily removed with your thumb. tongue.gif

I tried on Lacquer Gloss Coat, seems it will dry up immediately, have to scratch it off but usually leaves a mess.

Then on painted surface, dries up immediately however easier to scratch off.

On a spoon, still dries up pretty quick but can still use eraser to remove it.

So you're saying Gundam Marker Oil are more for no-paint build? So for painted build other than enamel wash any good marker that can easily wipe clean?

Last time i used Water Based Gundam Marker on Acrylic painted surface, they seems to be pretty wet & can easily use tissue paper to wipe clean, i switch to oil based because water base don't have fine tips.

never tried on on acrylic surface before, since i only use lacquer based paint. and the result like you said it'll dry up immediately. doh.gif

Since then, i only use that tamiya enamel for panel lining, easier to apply and wipe-off with zippo fluid. smile.gif

you can probably try the real touch marker. As far as I know they are water based. They have 2 tip sizes, so should be able to use the finer one for panel lining.

do you really need to gloss coat b4 the panel lines? previously i did use the water base on acrylic paint without coat but i have painted this kit for long time now plan to panel line it.

i read few options like Artist Oil, Artist Ink where you wash them but also heard washing without top coat will cause the excess get absorbed but i'm not sure it happens on all types of wash or enamel? i'm looking for an option where you can easily wipe off excess on acrylic painted kits without top coats. since it's white i wanna play safe.

Most of the SD kits that I panel line before were painted with Mr Hobby Paints. Lacquer based. I did not spray a gloss coat before panel lining using the real touch marker.

I am not sure how the touch marker would react to acrylic paints.

Maybe just try on a non-obvious location first?

right now i only have medium tip water marker, would be expensive to just order 1 real type marker.

anyone tried milder method like Water Color? Will it stain acrylic paint without top coats?

to me, it depends on how much you like the kit and are you willing to pay that price for the kit...
gamers arena, gwing and gundam head have cheaper price, but all out of stock for the kit...

eypon is probably one of the most unique kits in the wing series. Quite solid and satisfying thumbup.gif
as for the price I think u can get around 160-170 at certain places but like Kayk says problem is the stock

Not sure if its considered cheap or not:

https://www.facebook.com/HobbyArtGallery

Generally model kits here in Malaysia are considered cheaper compared to Singapore (due to the exchange rate I think)

I build 2 MG model but it takes up a lot space, just wondering is RG nice? I choose MG because of the details.

Personally, I don't care about the grade. As long as got what I want, then I'll go for it. biggrin.gif

RG is nice with the details and all on such a 'small' scale. What was your 2 MG?

Since this hobby is really depends on how much effort you want to put in, some HGs can be done really nice too smile.gif Look at the zaku mariner few pages back. biggrin.gif

All in all, it depends on what you want and decision smile.gif

i would prefer either RG / MG...
mainly because i dont have the equipment or "skills" to add in details...
RG and MG colour are quite accurate and have plenty of details thus i dont need to do much to add in more details...
however, i do use gundam marker to do some panel lining..

but i would still go for HG for gundams that are not available in RG or MG...

i totally agree with what cacin said, gunpla is a hobby that heavily depends how much effort and cost you are willing to spend on it...
with the right determination even a HG can look magnificent...

finally MG 00 Gundam 7 swords/G have arrived, going to take my time to assemble it and test out the LED on it...
keep me occupied until RG 00 Raiser arrive...

Regret buying Ova instead of Ver.Ka, trying to look for the decal but no result sad.gif

1. flawed back calf armor design - restricting knee bending angle
2. flawed back waist armor design - restricting torso rotation
3. no option to swap fixed open v fin - transforming v fin that couldnt close properly + extremely fragile
4. decals - only clear sticker n dry transfer

by the time u finish with the decals u'll wish ur finger were chop off by a rusted table saw instead, at least it'll hurt much less.

I did build one before. Articulation should be ok. The only 'flaw' I have was I broke the beam dagger connector. So, be careful when you snap it in.

you can always try China version or Samueldecals version  icon_idea.gif
you can never go wrong with RG's articulation, always superb  thumbup.gif
though RGs are known to have fragile parts, just be careful

i gotten some 3rd party decals, probably not by samuel, the quality is bad since some alignment is off and the sizes are uneven among the same decal design

is water decals really superior against the stickers type? i notice that the stickers is thicker and usually come in square instead of following the shapes, will coating hide it or it will appear to be rather obvious that they're stickers?

were yours precut?
I never had alignment or size problem, only spelling problem since it's China LOL
eg. 'caution' spelled as 'cotion'

yes, stickers are the most obvious decal, even after coating
to reduce the obviousness you need to polish the coating, but still can see the lines separating sticker and body

the most 'blend in' decal is dry transfer, looks almost like painted on
only downside is the difficulty

yes precut, gotten it from a site call gundam.my
one of the most noticeable alignment issue is the chest decal where u have letters and a red lining, the red line actually cover up the text and the length of left to right are uneven

other than that it looks not too bad, but when i apply them they don't stick on, kind of regret that i didn't get the mark setter to do the job sweat.gif
can't be bothered to get another set sad.gif

i remembered watching a review on RG exia trans-am mode, the reviewer mentioned that the "red" colour seems like another color coating on top of the original, so the parts would be tighter than the normal RG exia...

guys, anybody know about RG exia? how's the articulation? any major flaws? maybe i'm gonna get that for my first gunpla after a year and a half.
*
I just finished snap-fitting the standard RG Exia.

There is one major articulation problem. When the front skirt armour is installed, the leg cannot be lifted very far because the front thigh armour (which is very thick) gets blocked by the front skirt.

Minor gripes:

- The flexible hands' fingets are too fiddly and the palm socket too loose to hold the GN Blade. Unless you plan on modding the palm sockets, using the fixed weapon-holding hand will be your best bet.

- The shoulder armour can pop off if you're not careful turning the arms and posing. Just adjust position and be careful.

- My God, the special plastic bits for the GN cables are fiddly, especially the ones on the head. You will suffer putting those in.

- MY GOD the yellow face vents are super tiny and easily to lose if you drop them. I'm going to have to duplicate the single one I have with epoxy putty.

In the end, though, the RG Exia is pretty even without any painting. Good luck finding one for now, since it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

EDIT:

While I'm at it, I might as well talk about the HG G-Lucifer.

As an HG, this is a much simpler build than the RG Exia. I literally finished snap-fitting and sanding the kit in four hours flat, compared to the RG Exia that took me about three days (spread over the course of about 3 weeks). It is quite a unique-looking feminine design with the three giant bits forming a billowing skirt behind the MS. It reminds me a lot of the Qubeley coupled with the Kampfer's head.

Poseability is alright. I'm a bit disappointed the legs can't turn at the hip since the internal frame there allows rotating movement about its axis. The size of the gap at the end of the shoulder armour is also not large enough or indented enoudh to allow the arm to raise horizontally completely.

The kit comes with an additional pair of hands with fingers that are spread out like in the box artwork. However, the space between the fingers has a thin layer of plastic that makes it look like it has webbed hands. That will need a lot of work and touching up to make it look good.

Last gripe is that it doesn't come with enough beam saber blades to put into all three bits. You only get six standard ones which is enough to fully equip one of the three.

But all that aside, it's a pretty and good kit for the price.

Ha ha ha. I don't know biggrin.gif
But, once 1 side was broken, I was more carefull on the 2nd one.

So far, the kit that think has no accident yet during complete assembly is the MK II.

Gotten my gold decal for HGUC Banshee, precut, but yet to apply it, need to do my MG Unicorn 1st, waiting to get the decals hopefully this Sat or next Monday sad.gif

newbie question: For mark setter as i know i apply on the surface before i put on the water decals to make it stick better. How about mark softer? Do i apply it right after i dry the decal with cloth/cotton bud, or should i wait for it to dry completely?

I actually wanted the Nu ver ka but then just bought the unicorn mg and lots of tools (newbie mode) and a few figures coming in end of this month sad.gif

btw why is unicorn articulation seems like old released MG, I had the shcm unicorn which has way better articulation than MG, i know it's a figure but that's almost like the 1st batch of unicorn goods in the market. Why dont they slap a double joint for the knee, because they plan to sell that on PG? sad.gif

transformation issue I think. The HG has no problem with this since it is not transformable
I think the PG were hardly considered to be released at that time when the MG came laugh.gif

but HGUC knees can only bend abt 95-100 degrees too, if u look at Nu, Destiny etc they can bend a almost 160 no problem at all sad.gif

SHCM articulation beats even Robot Damashii and pretty well done for a 1/144 figure since it can transform. That's what caught my attention to own one even when it's pretty rare already.

1. the first variation of unicorn come out at 2007, that automatically rule out nu from ur comparison since its so much newer. Its like asking why my new car got keyless ignition n my old 1 doesnt? Of course it doesnt, because it old. Its not even fair to compare them together.

2. why even take destiny for comparison? Sure they r more or less release at the same year, but does destiny transform?

3. the design itself doesnt promote much movement, sure it looks fluid in animation/manga but that doesnt mean it'll translate well in actual kit. Katoki nvr really care in the first place when he design it, all he wan is to look cool. The mg is the more accurate version, n because of that it suffers more due to the inherent design issue. Just take a look at that atrocious back calf thruster design, does that look like it promotes articulation?

4. take a look at the knee on the lower half of the tight on shcm pro unicorn, u c how extreme that bend is? The main reason why unicorn cant bloody move its knee is because of the back upper calf housing the thruster design is hindering the movement and the psychoframe underneath that armor hinders it even more. U nid an extra joint on the lower tight area to rotate the knee downward to maneuver around the plastic sticking out from the back calf which is what the shcm pro does. There is no space to implement this in the mg, the entire inner tight move upwards during transformation, where r u gonna accommodate another rotation point in there?

5. another solution would be to go the sazabi route, put the rotational point on the calf instead and have the entire knee rotate upwards as it bends, practically the same solution but in the opposite direction as no4. But remember this is in year 2007, such tech doesnt even exist yet.

6. in ur original question u ask why there isnt a double joint in unicorn, well it does it just isnt enough. It needs another rotation point, a triple jointed knee as describe in no4 and/or no5. Either solution will work but again this is 2007 we r talking about.

its entirely unrealistic to expect more at that time, infact all the newer solutions was in part due to its shortcomings forcing bandai to re-engineer their joints, so u hav it to thanks for the newer stuff like nu n sazabi.

1. the first variation of unicorn come out at 2007, that automatically rule out nu from ur comparison since its so much newer.

The mg is the more accurate version, n because of that it suffers more due to the inherent design issue. not sure if considered as fix but they did improved the articulation

but again the design of the suit itself is the main thing that is preventing a perfect articulation shown below

yes it does, it uses the sazabi solution. Rotation point located at the lower part of the knee makes the entire knee rotate upward as u bend it. Giving it more spaces to move around. However if u open the back calf thruster it will still hinder it somewhat.

u hav katoki to blame for the inane design.

Haha I guess Unicorn don't really do kungfu poses hence why the design doesn't take into count the articulation later

What do you guys do if you lost a part?

I lost my RX-93 Nu Gundam Ver.Ka right hand armor. Didn't even know when I lost it until I look at the hand while applying decals. Searched the internet but can't seem to find anyone selling parts cry.gif

nice decals i have to say....
make me feel like look for 3rd party decals for 00 gundam seven swords/g as i feel it is rather "plain"...

finished up 00 gundam seven swords/g, bought 2 LEDs to test out...not bad i have to say, though i'm not going to put it in as it kinda hard to turn on the LED, and posing take lots of patience with those heavy weapons...

and guess what, bough another kit and it just arrived today, the gundam delta kai...
dont really mind that it is a really part-former gundam, the wave rider mode is just too cool to pass...
even the MS mode looks kinda cool...

I was wondering if the intention to paint is only to repaint the all the parts with their respective color to hide nub marks and uneven color from the runner itself, would spray can do the job or still airbrush the better choice (which i am yet to consider since i don't do a lot of gunpla and it would be a waste to get one atm >.<)

Another pic of my recent work, didnt do line panelling other than the head since I am new but regret it now sad.gif
Did a couple of extra coat after first wet coat to protect the decals

If just coating the whole runner, the spray can will do.
Airbrush is usually when you mix your own color or doing shading.

You can still do panel lining. Just recoat afterwards.

I usually buy from hobbysearch. They have restocks and stock indicator. So you won't suffer from the 'out of stock' reply.
