lol i had to sell my Ducky Shine 2 78 Limited Edition first though before buying this

anyway, typing on this keyboard is just so satisfying but having to press another button to register the inverted comas might need some time to get used to.

Congrats on v26!

Anyway guys, has anyone came across any backlight compatible media keycaps? (Play/pause, stop, next, previous). I'm looking to replace those shortcut keys with it on my Shine 3.

I couldn't find any, I'm also thinking to buy some blank translucent keycaps And paint it myself.

This is what I'm afraid to face so I chose not to use LED, but my previous Poker 2 has LED and I never used it, looks nice but not practical since I like PBT keycaps more than fancy translucent keycap so I made a right choice by following many sifu suggestion. wink.gif
If you want the LED to be fix, then fork a little and have those soldering sifu help you change them, but of course warranty void and no guarantee of it happening again. sweat.gif

Considered you no luck. sad.gif
Even without LED, Ducky still a good keyboard.
If the LED died bothered you, I recommend you to fix it. So, you will find peace in your soul.

According to last Justnits's news, the GB master is currently arranging for their 2nd batch?
And there's also problem with the 1st batch where some of the keycaps either mal-formed or probably damaged during shipping out to the destination.

So, we can only assume they probably can arrive at our door steps some when next year after CNY?

They are shipping out slowly by batches and also compensate some which damaged by shipping so it is going to take some more time, and Massdrop now also take little more care when arranging the shipping internationally to minimize the damage as such it will take even more time.

Well, we can only wait patiently and hopefully won't face the issue that most of the first batch had. sweat.gif

p/s: Issues arise when mass production to meet demand in a time frame. doh.gif

Got few possibilities:
- old firmware, need update to latest
- FN rosak, or those F1-F4 rosak
and etc

Do repeat rate important to you?
Software like autohotkey able to replicate the repeat rates.

HHKB Disassembly Guide

Step 1: Loosen and remove the 3 screws at the back of HHKB. You can easily see 3 screws holes.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Step 2: Remove the back casing carefully, there is a controller at the back of the casing. I use a small glass bottle to hold the back casing.
Remove the screws on the pcb. The screws are highlighted in white circle.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Step 3: After remove the screws on pcb, close the back casing. Then flip the HHKB to the front like in the picture. laugh.gif
So, the domes will not fall out. thumbup.gif
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Step 4: Remove the top casing.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Step 5: Flip the top casing and put it down. laugh.gif
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Then, you can start inspect why your board got ants.

I haven't use a bent wire before. Will it work with the keycaps properly ?
I know Ivan's GB had some problems and wires had to be remade.
I don't want to get a refund either since it's too problematic.
Any suggestions ?

This type of bent wire will work just fine.
As long as the wire turning points are right-angled (90°) u won't have any issue in installing then.
However, if u plan to use this bent wire with a plate; make the the plate have cut-out for wire, else the wire will most likely kicking with your plate underneath.

No, if u try to bend in order to make it straight, it would became longer.
It will be really hard for me i think, to cut the wire and bend it again precisely. sweat.gif

Hmm I'm not sure what type of wire is suitable, but to save hassle i just replace it by using plate-mount type wire since it is straight.

Guys, have any of you guys ever soldered your own LEDs (replace or so)? I'm so lazy to send mine DS3 for warranty plus I can't live without it. What's the risk of soldering? Will damage the whole board permanently?

Risks are damage your board or components.

If lazy send, then use per normal without the LED.
If LED is too important to you, then try to solder DIY, or send back to warranty.
Maybe some good soul here will help you to solder if you buy them a coffee. Maybe. sweat.gif

level 3.
based on this video, it is inaccurate.
it does not shows whether keycaps rattle or not when mounted, also it does not demonstrate whether the keycap will stuck due to stabilizer (less likely happen)

my piece of advice: prepare the stabs, mount the plate, and put the switches to each stabilizer, mount keycaps and test whether it is smooth.

Is the Corsair K70 with Blue Switch a good choice for a first time user? Always loved Corsair's design and the palm rest is a BIG factor in the purchase biggrin.gif

I always thought they cost a lot more, only to realise the K70 is around RM400 ish...

Wait a second, if I select blue switches, I get blue backlight? If so, I'd definitely get the Red because red backlit is just so awesome

You are partly correct though the palm rest is one of the few reasons why I like the design. I have a wired keyboard with a palm rest and it was so good, switching back to a keyboard without a plam rest was hard sad.gif

And yeah, most of the other keyboards apart from the Corsair ones look very similar in layout and design IMHO

The backlit in the Corsair K70 is quite spread out because of the design of the keycaps or switch?

its not that corsair not good but they got high LEDS failure rate and its not that you buy red get red leds there is a option of 2 colour in Malaysia BLack body with red leds or sliver body with blue Leds but sliver has being recall in Malaysia so hard to find .

You can always get an aftermarket palm rest.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

For those always use numpad in keyboard, can always get a tenkeypad.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

For keyboard, get TKL or 60%.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Here, people here not always get full layout keyboard in-built with palm rest, volume controller and etc in the same keyboard.
TLDR: People here don't buy AIO keyboard.

Ya, the fact that K70 has extremely high LED failure rates. You can always claim the warranty because of this.

Palm rest, if wanna get locally here, will cost around how much?

Honestly I don't need those extra medie keys, I never use them anyway.

So, let's say I'm looking for something other than the Corsair but it must have a red backlit keyboard and Cherry Brown switches. I heard that Cherry Brown is tactile like Blue but less noisy, I don't want something noisy tongue.gif

At the lowest price point if possible, design doesn't matter since most look similar. If you can quote a few models, it would be great smile.gif

Any from these 2 topics?

yes brown is tactile but i do suggest you go feel them before you make you decision you never know you might like something else
what size are you interested in ? for TKL(tenkeyless) you can go for CM storm Rapid I but comes in white leds only
if not that ducky is your best bet in Malaysia for red LEDS
or you can get this to change them to red if you go with white LEDS

I just noticed the Rosewill RK9000 with silver colour. Wow it looks good!!

Edit: Any other recommendations for budget of RM200-350 for a silver/white keyboard

1) With Red backlit keyboard (the picture below is nice but I want red backlight)

user posted image

2) With non-red backlight

***If any keyboards with nicer design with a little bit of top up, do mention it here also laugh.gif

So what's the cheapest mech keyboard with red backlight? Don't need full size smile.gif

Can get anything around RM3XX? Any lubang? brows.gif

Edit: I noticed the CM Quick Fire Ultimate Red backlight from lingloong for RM335 only brows.gif

The trigger Z has a bigger keyboard base (which makes it look more spacious) and THERE'S A PALM REST!!! Only RM385 hmm.gif

Might go for Trigger Z biggrin.gif

So what's the cheapest mech keyboard with red backlight? Don't need full size smile.gif

Can get anything around RM3XX? Any lubang? brows.gif

Edit: I noticed the CM Quick Fire Ultimate Red backlight from lingloong for RM335 only brows.gif

The trigger Z has a bigger keyboard base (which makes it look more spacious) and THERE'S A PALM REST!!! Only RM385 hmm.gif

Might go for Trigger Z biggrin.gif

Looks like for below RM400, CM is probably the only option for Red backlit keyboard.

CM Storm Rapid I vs Trigger Z vs QuickFire Ultimate ?

I know that Rapid I uses white LED whereas Trigger Z only has Blue LED on Blue caps (My preference is BLUE switch) but if the cost of moding the LED colour is reasonable, I might go for it, which depends on you guys experience between the 3 choices biggrin.gif

I heard that Quickfire Ultimate uses lower quality keycaps?

rapid i do have more lighting mode and solid build quality

Sorry, didn't really know how it works...I mean the link you sent about the LED caps?

So at the bottom of each cap, there's an LED? If so, then how to connect all the electric circuit when I get the key caps. I always thought the LED lights are provided by the keyboard base, not the key caps.

Edit: I think I know how it works already, it's basically putting a coloured piece of plastic just above or next to the white backlight:
http://www.banggood.com/DayDream-LED-Cover...t-p-925837.html

I can't read Chinese, so is that 4.50 Yuan for 1 key cap? So changing the entire keyboard layout will cost a bomb? rclxub.gif

Can't find any info about the Ducky Shine TKL? I hope it's below RM400 as that's my budget sad.gif

Thanks for bearing with me notworthy.gif

The led is mounted on the switch itself and not the keycap. You don't have to connect anything. As you said its just removing your keycaps and putting a colored piece plastic above it.

Theres alot of keycaps in taobao for different prices. Search for 键帽 in taobao and look for yourself. If youre using chrome, right click and translate to english. though not accurate, think you'd understand.

Edit: I see you mean the led shades, its ¥ 4.50 / 10 pieces. Assuming youre on a TKL board it would be 9 x 4.50 = 40.5 yuan.

Shine 3 TKL you gotta order from cyntrix idk how long wait time but its Rm399.

I'd get the Shine 3 TKL if i were in your shoes.

Thanks. I think the intensity of red colour if I were to use red led covers, wouldn't be that high right? Would be as good as those pure red backlit keyboards?

Ohhh so it's only 40.5 Yuan which is pretty reasonable smile.gif

Actually, what's great about the Shine 3 TKL? RM399 is higher than my budget but it's worth considering if it's good. Let's say compare it with the CM Trigger I tongue.gif

I'd most likely go for Blue switch hmm.gif or Brown if it's ok with me. I like the clicky feel biggrin.gif

Edit: Ohh Shine 3 TKL has blue switch with red backlight http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index....ct_detail&p=544

It's interesting because if I get a white backlight, I can easily alternate between white backlight or red backlight by using red led covers, so in a way, I can choose between red or white! But if I were to choose red, I can only get red. I could probably get white LED if I were to do some modding? But that is another question alltogether biggrin.gif

yeah, it wasn't terribly expensive and the timing was right as I just sold off the keyboard and have that fund in the Pay Pal. And after being in mech scene, I have never had a Korean custom and really want to see what the big deal was all about and the price is also pretty good. So, I just jumped on it. Didn't notice the space bar placement. What's wrong with it?

Well, I always have a heart for Blues - because it used to be my favorite switch before Topre; wouldn't mind hearing some clickiness when typing once a while. After all the thocking, one needs some clicking. It's probably a weekend getaway keyboard, not going to be a daily driver as will be too noisy to use at work. Beside, like I said, I wanna see what is so great about Korean custom, probably I will be enthralled by the lightings brows.gif

And I do have a beautiful GMK Dolch keycap for this 2TU; this will be super nice.

Ducky shine 3 TKL need to pre order so price need to talk to cyntrix tech about it
ducky is good because its build quality is pretty solid and leds failure rate not that high compare to corsair

as for the led cover is 4.5 RMB so its acutally around rm2.6 for every 10
and as or colours yellow orange pink red green blue purple and white
so shipping from agent is usually rm 12 and 1% for agent fee so you can look for a agent to order for you
http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a230r...728&abbucket=11

and yes white leds is the safest route to go because you can change by using the leds cover

Anyone have a cherry mx blues with 45g or 55g korean spring in it? Does the switch get stuck because the spring can't push the switch back up after actuation?

ha ha .. actually I am thinking of first putting in my crappy Code ABS key set because I can see the beautiful blue light through those keys first. After all, what is a Korean keyboard without shiny LED lights. Then I will put the Dolch for the feel. Definitely will post photos biggrin.gif

i don't think that's what a korean custom is all about. LED lights is like the cigarette after a one night stand. or, dessert after a good meal. not a must have, but it would be nice to have.

Having not received my Korean custom, if LED light is not what's defining a Korean custom, then what is? It can't be the MX switches. Is it the acrylic or aluminum case? The legs? Or a combination of all?

Custom is always about the PCB and Case, chips & firmware others are pretty much common...

the worksmanship of the overall build. the alu/acrylic case designs. modding of mx springs, lubing and stickers. the design they have for alu cases, the overall feel when you're typing on a korean alu custom.

Korean custom kbd is vast, they are many teams which stick to their own philosophy. For exam KBDMod team designed KMAC series, it is more to neat and simple looking.
OTD teams design is more traditional, no-frills pcb, combining both modern and classic design to achieve one of the most soulful (to date) keyboards to some people (including me)
Duck0113 and his team are more on modern design, offering feature-rich pcb with different led settings, macro, repeat rate..etc.

It is also MX switch to define custom mechanical keyboard. That's why we call custom, isn't it?
When we talk about mx switch, you get to choose different color switch stickers.
Then into springs, ranging from 35g springs to 100g springs, each spring can be swapped according to your likings.
Some people like 45g, some like 55g, while some prefer 62 or even 67g.
Move on to tuning. Tuning mx switches can be complicate, by using different lubing materials it gives different feeling to your fingers.

Whether acrylic or aluminium case, it is about series (or by authors).

Not to forget, there are too many pretty keycaps set available for MX.

Here are some photos for you, all belongs to korean custom.

You guys are truly the sifu and master of Korean customs notworthy.gif thank you. I forgot about the custom springs of the MX switch and the lubing. The one I will be getting is a custom 55g MX Blues and no switch tuning. I like 55g and I hope it's the same weight as the 55g Topre Realforce I use at home. Oh, hurry up Mr mailman!

It's very light. Lighter than a HHKB. Of course currently it has no key caps yet so my estimate could be out.

I'm also glad that it uses Cherry stab so I don't have to wrestle with all those tapes on legs.

Haven't put caps yet, so can't comment on how it feels. The caps are at home and I am stuck in office. In terms of width, it is shorter than HHKB because HHKB still have the bezel. 2TU doesn't have bezel. Length are almost the same. But being acrylic the bottom part of the case has some scratches. Not sure if this is acceptable for something premium like this. I guess it is inevitable. Even some CC direct from the man himself have scratches.

Edit: love the fact that it is clear acrylic so I can see the beautiful PCB. And the two stands are just flawless!

have you tried typing on them? how does they feel? does the tactile bump become noticeably heavier or does it becomes lighter? does the stems get stucks sometimes cause of the lighter spring being unable to push the stems back up?

Man! I was so tired yesterday I didn't get a chance to put the keys on. Will try tonight.

I didn't build this keyboard. I bought from Apollos in Korea who designed and build this keyboard. He named it 2TU for 2 Thumbs Up or TUTU. So he put the transparent housing, not me. The LED has 6 styles which is kinda cool.

I thought 55g is heavier spring than stock MX Blues so I don't think I will have any issues with keys not popping up.

An earlier bro said that the space bar switch is a bit to the right. Its true. I can't fit the Code Clear spacebar because the switch is one notch too far into the right. But I can put a Bro set and Vortex space bar because they have an additional slot. These are all 6.25.

Ah cool. Maybe the code's spacebar is a little bit different.
55g feels heavier than stock blues ? o.o
I'm planning to get 62g to swap with stock blues for my upcoming build.
I would like a slightly heavier feel.
Do let us know biggrin.gif Since you've used stock blues and now this 55g blues laugh.gif !
Enjoy your board !

its made by abostudios but you can get them from techkeys.

It's a little pricey at $0.50 per piece, maybe you could source it from taobao it might be cheaper. (I don't know if taobao has it btw)

Looking at my board, the transparent casing is indeed by abstudios! Thanks joonwei23.

Edit: yeah, I will share my experience on Blues - I have used stock Blues in Razer and Poker 2. I have not used on a modified stem, so this will be interesting to find out. Also, I have a JD40 from ctrlalt.io on its way to me, which I chose MX Green and is even heavier. We will see how all these compare biggrin.gif

wow you got the JD40. I think it's a little too small for me. Even 60% is just nice for me and I don't think I can go any lower.
Sure sure, greens will be stiffer tho. I've only used it on my caps lock. biggrin.gif I'm trying to find a sweet spot between blues and greens.

Yeah if there's one with cherry logo i'll be all over it. abostudio's one isn't that bad but I heard the first batch breaks or doesn't fit tightly.

i'm not sure in particular for that one you've linked but it doesn't do anything other than aesthetic purposes.

Assuming it's a korean spring, 55g korean springs are lighter than stock mx blue/brown/red springs. Cherry springs are measured at actuation but korean springs are measured bottomed out.

If i remember correctly a 60g korean spring is equivalent to stock cherry mx blue/brown/red springs.

It is interesting to note that Korean spring is lighter. As I am using this, it sounds like you are right. Gotta use a lot more before I can safely conclude. I have put my GMK Dolch set. It is so beautiful.

Sorry .. More keyboard pimping .. With GMK Dolch and EK Red CC. I wish I had a Blue CC..

I can't put the standard Caps Lock but have to put the Stepped one. And luckily, the Dolch spacebar has additional hole for the cherry stem that was off to the right. And, I'm glad there is also a shorter right Shift.

korean springs are measured by bottom out force and the measurement that you see in cherry switches are actually actuation forces.

Oh I didn't know his 55g's were popular, thought it was his 62g's.
Either way I guess ppl like light springs.
I'm using his 62g on a clear switch. It's not fatiguing when you type for a long time so there's that.
For a linear switch, I think it would make it heavier so more towards mx blacks ? smile.gif

Hey guys, ive been doing researches for mech keyboard for weeks, still i could not make up my mind, so i need a hand or a push here. Due to malaysia market, i have shortlisted Ducky, CM storm, Filco & Corsair but i am not sure which to go for. After i read the threads i feel LED is more like a cons than a pros, so i don't mind about LED lol. I don't have a budget limit but i am looking for best durability or a less faulty mech keyboard that can hold me up for at least 3 - 5 years till the next spending.

If you do not have budget limit, you can extend your choices to Topre or Cherry MX Custom keyboards.
From your current list, best choice is Filco.

It's fine. I always hard carry my keyboards tongue.gif
Funnily, I got stopped once at Dubai's airport when I was transiting to the UK. The lady asked me to open the bag, and she was like smiling at the keyboard.

Absolutely. I have forgotten how much I love the clickiness of MX Blues. It's like visiting an old love; lol. I have shoved my RealForce 55g into the shelf and using the 2TU at home as daily driver now. Let's see how long that last. But the switches are a bit too light to my liking. Love the form factor, definitely love the disco lights that become brighter and brighter as I typed and then fade to nothing when I stopped typing. Super duper gadgetry but still fun, nonetheless.

Yeah, clicky switches are the best but not too light. maybe if you swapped yours with 62g or mx clear springs it would feel nicer.

JD40 is suitable for those never use punctuation.
Not really practical. Although you can map the keys to have punctuations and num keys. sad.gif

I gotta admit that I really like stock Clears, so I think I will enjoy MX Green once my JD40 is assembled and shipped. But I really wonder how practical JD40 is in real life.

Let me give some of my thoughts on this.
Tbh 60% is really practical at least for me.
The first one I got was a poker 2. Then I got the FaceW from Sprit. I almost got the Nerd 60% as well but I opt for the tkl this time. laugh.gif
The ergonomics is really suitable for me, I don't really bother about the numpad tho so there's that. biggrin.gif Gives me another option for a tenkeypad anyways if I need it tongue.gif
And 60% is quite easy to carry around, so there's that smile.gif

Um, there's no good or bad idea. I've seen people lube clicky switches but sometimes i don't really think it's necessary.
Moreover, I've seen someone lubed till the clickiness of the switch was gone. laugh.gif
I guess lubing is more towards, linear and tactile switches. Just my opinion.

yeah. I use a HHKB at work so I use it almost 9 hours daily. I have no problems with 60% - that is how practical it is. The few times I have problems is when I needed to do heavy Excel work, ie I needed the arrow clusters. Then pressing FN keys and navigating in Excel was a pain! Other than that, 60% is my choice! Now I am using the 2TU at home and it was ok so far. Haven't really game with it yet, so can't comment.

Even though they are all Topre: FC660C, HHKB Pro 2 and RealForce, people claimed that they all feel different. I have not tried the FC660C myself so I can't really comment. HHKB is one of a kind because it is case mounted, so it gives out a totally different feel and sound - it's a very unique keyboard. You can't go wrong with HHKB if you have to choose between FC660C and HHKB. But if you went with FC660C, you will be left wondering what's the big deal with HHKB and will want one eventually.

PFU Happy Hacking, Leopold FC660C and Topre Realforce all are using different layout.
The similarities are all using 6x ABS spacebar. laugh.gif

If you need of independent arrow keys and want a compact keyboard, FC660C is suitable for you.
I guess HHKB is better of course because of the layout and arrangement useful, keys needed by a typist and a programmer.
Layout always matters.

For Topre Realforce, it has a very well design of the case, it's easy to disassemble and assemble compared to the others.
Perfectly made. wub.gif

It's the area of distribution. The keyboard still made in Japan.

For instance,
Ark (A) - distributed by Japan also
Ducky Channel (DK) - distributed in Taiwan
Leopold - distributed in S.Korea
EliteKeyboards (EK) - distributed in North America

The LED color of numlock/caplock/control and keycaps technology may varies depends on the series.

Too light for my liking. I think for people who prefers light switch, it's a good combo - light and clicky. I don't find that I type faster with it, strangely, maybe my fingers, which are used to heavier switch, are expecting something before moving on to the next key press. It's kinda like there are some very small pauses so I think it's a very interesting board/switch for me. This is also the first time I use a GMK made caps and I must say it gives a good solid feel, despite being a ABS. And I really like the caps.

Nothing wrong with ABS. Just that my preferences is PBT. As I have mentioned, my daily driver is HHKB and RealForce, both using PBT. Before that, my 60% was a Poker 2, which also use PBT. So I am bias towards PBT feel. When I use a ABS, the caps is just too smooth on my finger to my liking.

Actually the most important criteria is the switch (what!?). I've used MX Blues with ABS (Signature Plastics) and I like it because the sound is perfect. I've used thick PBT for a while, and I prefer PBT because the colours suit my style (matte and muted) and I like how they feel and sound on my tactile boards.

So, for me: -

1. MX Blues = thin ABS
2. Everything else = MasterCardPBT, preferably thick.

So dadude, the 55g MX Bluex that was mentioned above is my Korean custom. It is very light and therefore, as clicky as well. And I put in GMK Dolch, which is ABS - I think GMK Dolch is thick ABS, but yeah, it feels good in a tacticle and clicky switch. So, I agree with you biggrin.gif

I doubt that is the case. I always leave the donation as default i.e. usd$2. BunnyLake is an honorable man and does not just give dibs because of petty stuff like this le.

So far I am 2/5 when it comes to raffles system so I am pretty sure it is totally random.

I would say the Ducky if you're into the blingblings. I don't remember the older cm's having leds. I know the new one has it tho.
I've only typed on a CM for a short while but I own a ducky, so my preference leans towards the ducky. smile.gif

Good read.

However, we can say that Cherry MX key switches are indeed of higher quality than knock-offs like the Kailh switch found in Tt eSports' Poseidon ZX. That's not to say Kailh switches are bad, just that you can discern a difference when going from one to the other.

Razer BWU and Tt Poseidon are using Kailh switches.
Still, Cherry is the best! flex.gif

I'm looking to get a new keyboard for my workplace, the current work ergonomics are killing me.

I'm thinking of getting a 60% layout for portability and to my knowledge there's only the poker 2, kbparadise v60, ducky mini, filco minila and the hhkb available locally. I just have no idea what to go for. Are there any others I should consider? Layout's all the same right, just the switches and build quality difference?

Considering the fact that my office is an open plan I don't think anything with clicks or loud bottoming out sounds will be... acceptable. lol.

I use a ducky tkl mx black at home.

tldr; looking for a 60% mkb for work, no idea what to choose.

for work don't get a mkb with so much colored lighting. is very out of place for work environment xd.

for work i find a full standard keyboard with numpad is better compared to tenkeyless. the numpad is very useful (depending if your job does lots of data entry or not)

i strongly recommend cherry mx brown for work and general use :}

QUOTE
Although that tiny logo looks like it came out from Star Trek, it actually belongs to Kaihua Electronics (also known as Kailh), a Chinese manufacturer specializing in switches, so it goes without saying that they are the OEM behind Razer's Green and Orange keyboard switches. They are far from a new company; Kailh has been making switches for over two decades, including keyboard switches. However, if someone compares their products to those from Cherry, it becomes apparent that their keyboard-related products are a direct copy of Cherry's designs. This is not illegal, however, as Cherry's patent on mechanical keyboard switches dates back in the early 1980's and thus expired well over a decade ago.

There is no reason that a copy cannot be just as good as or even better than the original. Kailh's reputation however isn't the greatest. Razer claims that their switches not only are just as good as the originals, but they have extended their life expectancy by 10 million keystrokes. Unfortunately, although we do have access to equipment that could be used for durability testing, such equipment's top speed is limited to about one actuation per 0.8 seconds. This means that 60 million keystrokes necessitates a minimum of 556 days to test a single button.

Put another way, if you could type 100 WPM eight hours per day, every day, you would perform around 122 million keystrokes per year...but those would be distributed among all the keys, so perhaps six million strokes on each key. A more likely figure would be at most 5000 words per day, six days per week, which would be 10 million keystrokes per year, or about 500K per key on average. In other words, the durability rating is ludicrous to begin with, as even the original 50 million keystrokes should greatly outlast the lifespan of the user, let alone the keyboard.

If you were to examine the specifications of Razer's new switches, it becomes apparent that their Green and Orange switches are almost identical to the Blue and Brown switches from either Cherry or Kailh respectively. In terms of performance, Razer only reduced the actuation travel from 2.2mm down to 1.9mm (Blue vs Green). The difference is even smaller for the Orange switch, as the Brown switch actuates at 2.0mm.

i've been out of the scene for a while so wasn't aware about these hmm.gif interesting

yes razer is using kailh switches just they change the design a bit so that it has a shorter actuation point and put their name on the switches so its looks cooler XD
*
that as may be, i think it will all come down to pricing hmm.gif

but a shorter actuation point is always welcome nod.gif

What are you guys opinion on 75% keyboards?
Looks like only tkl and 60% are popular here.

75% might be one of my favourite layout. I already sold my HHKB because I can't live without the dedicated arrow key and function key. It's just a hassle and impractical to me to use a Fn+number rows/Fn+arrow cluster instead of just having dedicated key.

A rubber dome. tongue.gif . Probably will buy a Filco soon as I never actually owned a MX switch board before. On an unrelated note, will you restock the white Realforce keycaps anytime soon? Or is it a one time thing?

I always wonder why no manufacturer want to produce 65% layout. 60% + arrow keys = perfect layout!

There's Bmini as another cheaper alternative for 75%.
PCB + Acryl Case + Screws should be just around 100usd.

Leopold seems to be unnecessary wasting space, but that is just my personal preference, sometimes less key is more. But why not other manufacturer, I believe there's demand for it.

Nope, old one, stop at this one since the only layout i need. Revert back to pcb for tkl and 60%, still waiting for pcb to arrive sad.gif

If i were you i'd just go and get a Filco mj2 tkl and leave other options for future purchase.

To be honest, I personally think Filco is abit dated and other manufacturers have caught up in terms of quality and sometimes offer more value to their products like cable routing options, detachable cables, led options, media keys, dip switches and etc.

But then again, even with those Filco is still the most recommended board across every mechanical keyboard forum. You can't go wrong when everyone recommends a Filco.

KUL ES-87 have pretty good reviews as of recent with your budget. You might want to add that to your list. I'm not sure how much the shipping would cost though you gotta find out.

Hi guyz. I just realized one of my LED just got burnt ("S" button) and it happened after nearly 2 month i bought this keyboard.
I got feeling more LED will burn out soon or sooner sad.gif
My question is can i claim warranty for this prob? And if i want to fix the LED prob by myself, how much it will cost me and where to fix?
Thanks.

I live in Kajang area and i bought from Tech Armory at PJ.
Haish really. If like that i better just claim warranty from them.
Maybe wait 1-2 month more and see if other LED will burn out and then claim all at once.

Taobao have vintage blacks, 5rmb each.
Or you buy the vintage blacks' board at 240~280rmb each and harvest by yourself or I do the desoldering for u to save a little cost.
Normally old boards after harvested 100+ switches, only 70% are useable.
Just my 2cent.

You can buy and try.
Hope you will appreciate the feel.
Veterans tried many switches before reach a conclusion it's the best for linear.

Although it's not recommended for newcomers to get vintage black directly.
It's same like Topre, if you get Topre at the beginning before you tried other tactile, you will think Topre is pretty normal feel.
So, will sell the Topre off at the end of the day.
And please don't get 55g in the beginning also, same story.

Start at level 1, end your game at level 100.
Need farming before you understand what is end game.
Get end game item at the beginning, you don't understand the passion behind keyboard.

Don't start your game at level 100, and get end game directly.
People won't jelly, just pity the great keyboard falls to the hand of sohigh ppl.

Hey guys wanna get some more opinions on lube to use on switches that can be sourced locally.

@dadudeneverabides suggested singer lube previously in the thread before this.

Any other option that i might want to look out for? I'm lubing cherry mx blues btw if that matters.

Why would you want to lube blues?

For tactile you can get the lube kit from mechanical keyboards.com

Since you're getting lubes for blues, get thick mix ba

And you're going to lose clickyness. Just to warn you first.

Cause although i like the clickyness but blues feels too heavy! So thought of lubing to reduce the tension a little.

Nvm decided not to lube blues anymore but i'm lubing the springs since i bought from sprit and it doesn't come lubed.

Is there any that i can buy locally? Is the Dupont teflon silicone lubricant good enough for spring lube?

It's just my humble advice for keyboard enthusiasts.  nod.gif

Great insight!

I have used stock black for 6 months on a Noppoo and hated it.
I doubt I will like vintage blacks. No end game for me? blink.gif cry.gif

i guess its quite hard to figure that out right? once u put it on your keyboard they look all the same to me, unless can mount it upside down to show the bottom of the keycap. maybe personally will feel prouder by supporting the original cc/bb maker instead of replicas, just like buying GMK Dolch vs Taihao Dolch icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah, he's doing it on purpose to spite the maker of CC and BB. He went to geekhack and openly taunt them despite people asking him to go away. You are right, he has the means and tools to make caps, why copy?

Sure, sure. Some people are ok with fake stuff. Like carrying fake handbags or wearing fake Nike/branded clothes. Bags are bags, right? Shirts are shirts, right? But somehow, to me, I rather wear non-branded stuff than wear branded stuff and pretend to be in the same cool gang.

It's same reason as ppl buy branded products.
<<Why buy brand?>>
To satisfy psychology needs in terms of to show off and to feel need to feel important as well.

<<What motivates ppl buy fakes/counterfeits?>>
People want to have fancy things but can't afford them, or not able to get them even got money.
The demand are higher than supply.

So, if the branded products selling at unreasonable price after several mark up, then potential buyers will rage.
At the end, the potential buyer will become angry customer and ask the seller go fly a kite.
When fakes come in the system, the previous buyer will happy and willing to pay with reasonable price (without markup) to get the same design product of similar quality.

QUOTE
Example situation.

skull seller: WTS USD 200 for a keycap, do you interested?
potential buyer: You go fly kite lah. I go buy k3kc "I love keycap", cheaper.

P.S.: Piracy kills creativity. sad.gif

At the end, k3kc sell keycaps as expensive as the authentic skulls..
USD 27 for single pink color, USD 42 for tri-color.

This reminds me of Razer DeathAdder counterfeit products last time.
Selling at same price, but it's counterfeits, same look, same design.

Anyone seeking for 3D printing service?

Made keycaps for ntw (thanks for the summon), they don't cost much, maybe about RM 5 a cap but I would suggest large quantity, say RM 40 above for free postage. I would recommend this new rubberize material for key caps rather than the hard plastic material, not so painful when pressing on keys. I can also offer customization to key caps like 3D embossing but you might have to provide me with a sketch or picture.

I even have semi transparent plastics, so you can have nice mood lighting for your keyboards icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone here using kailh switch?

Is it okay to get it?

I'm looking for mech keyboard, cheapest and simplest one will do. No led are needed, can do if its tkl. Doesn't matter if it's kailh or cherry switches since people say there isn't much difference.

But must last a few years, I don't want to spend money on a board which will break down after 1-2 years.

If you want it lasts a few years, get a cherry. You will get the quality equivalents to how much you pay for.

led are bound to die after a while. lol. either u learn how to fix it by urself or send to some gurus.

Makes no different if you change to another brand with LED. If you still prefer LED, best is to learn how to desolder and solder the LED, or pay someone to do the sip socket mod, although its harder to do sip socket mod on standard plate
