I am pretty sure all 14.1.B.1.510 got this issue as few user already try.
It happen in Local Malaysia firmware or Taiwan base.

Below is how to rectified the problem exist and prevent solution.

How to make startup fake hang happen

• Un-tick Optimised backlight and shutdown the phone.
• Switch on the phone - you will facing the fake hang issue.

How to get SOD

• After above scenario fake hang happen, wait until it load to phone, +/- 1 min.
• Immediate locked the screen. Tada! Screen of Dead happen!

How to solved the issue

• Force restart the phone - either take out the SIM card to let the phone auto restart itself or press and hold the red button beside SIM card and wait until 3 vibrate, the phone is switch off.
• The fake hang still exist when the phone switching on, as usual wait +/-1 min to let the phone load in.
• Tick back Optimised backlight and immediate shutdown the phone.
• Now start the phone back, you will notice the fake hang during startup no longer happen.
• No SOD also when locked and unlocked the screen.

Can we still not using the Optimised backlight?

• YES - as long as you remember to tick back before plan to shutdown the phone.

Why I not prefer to use Optimised backlight?

• The screen color more dull a bit and less pure black.
• It is obvious noticeable when you slide left at App Drawer for more features of App Drawer, the dark grey will became bright grey in Optimised backlight.

Is SOD always happen

• NO - It only happen when your boot-up facing fake hang issue.
• Solution - always tick back Optimised Backlight before shutdown your phone until Sony solved it.

• Chinese keyboard - swiping is not working when swipe in English at Small Keyboard layout.
• Chinese keyboard - input not working proper when type in Chinese in certain website.

Even if it launched, I think they will not revise XZU price. Means, they will sell like S4, the LTE is more expensive than non LTE.. So the non LTE rrp is rm2299, the LTE version will sell higher like rm2499 maybe.. Well I have a gut feeling that they will not kill the sale for the earlier release non LTE as well, that's why they released first to test the market.. And for the LTE model, they will just sell at higher rrp..

wah so fast v3 liao... good morning people.

Few things to say on this XZU after a day usage..

1. Screen is good, but I prefer HTC one display (strictly personal preference, not due which latest tech what not, I just think HTC one display suites to my eyes)
2. This phone to me is just exceed the fine line of what is pocket able into my tight jeans.. It can go in, but not while I'm sitting down, and it feels got in the way if I'm climbing stairs. On the other hands, Huawei Ascend Mate sits comfortably in my pocket..
3. Also, XZU has passed the thin line of what I can easily handle one handed. I have a big hand, I'm a tall guy with broad hands, if u wonder. Again, I'm comparing my experience using Ascend Mate. For the Mate, one handed operation still feasible such as when driving.. Oppsss.. Haha.. Yeah u got what I mean.. Damn I still think Mate is an awesome device at this point. So I may conclude that 6" is a maximum size of phone for me, or else I need to familiarize myself by not pocketing my phone and always 2 handed operation.. So for that reason as well, needed thinner bezel on the phone to reduce overall size, as Mate do.. Honestly, if looking at the front side comparing XZU and Mate, I would say Mate design is more attractive to me.. But overall, XZU really does feel like an expensive computing device which worth the price.
4. BATTERY. again, I'm worried about the battery life. Just a quick impression here: plugged out at 100% charged, now 1h 40m SOT the battery dropped to 51%. What do you guys think about that? There is "Google service" that has keep the phone wake for 5h+, what is that? Can anyone give me advise? Mate battery is the best of all phone I've ever have, hands down.
4. User experience. Don't flame me, I expect more of the snapdragon 800, provided it's the latest proc and clocked much higher. Anyone else agree with me if I say that HTC One smoother than this? I insists that it is. Maybe it's the UI.. Well for normal user maybe the slight bumpy or hiccup on the UI is negligible, for I guess for most tech savvy it is quite apparent. (oh wait maybe it's just the UI designed that way? But multitasking and running apps is just a breeze tho)
5. The handwriting/stylus usage is pretty horrible! I guess not even in par with Note 2 despite their ads saying goes that can write with any pencil with precision bla bla bla... Needless say more. Hope an update will fix it.
6. Camera is not the best. Well now I think, HTC one camera is not that bad after all despite of the 4mp. Maybe most ppl were just expected miracle out of the ultrapixel thus some noise about the camera. At a glance, normal shot at normal daylight conditions using this XZU and HTC One camera, they are just comparable in particular, in low light HO definitely won, take this from a non camera savvy person.. Lol
7. Speaker is exceptionally soft.
8. Conclusion. Anyhow, XZU still excites me. Large display is a breeze. Yet to use it on office days, when usually the real potential shows up when I start dealing with office stuff, emails, documents, Dropbox, diaries and calendars.

4. Google services keep waiting because of location reporting. Go to google settings> location> turn off the location reporting. Thats why ur battery life lower.. if normally u turned on data, gps, auto sync all the time.. i think 4hours is average..

the others just depend on users. Some prefer HO, Some prefer S4, Some prefer Sony.

google location service is ok to keep on, the real culprit is Google Now
go to google search > settings to turn off google Now and you'll see increase in battery life...

honestly in my opinion.
sony aims consumers like us to buy these phone.
meaning those who gonna use mainly for entertainment, work. and by entertainment. headphones,portable speakers , bluetooth headphones.
and not photography. even if there's LED flash on the phone. the cost will be slightly higher and made unaffordable for us Malaysians. on the other side, flash that is not xenon or anyother famous/good brand flash.
will surely doesn't have much different in pitch black situation.well thats my personal experience of course.
for the speaker. yes i am dissapointed as well.
but on the other hand. i liked it how the back part of the phone vibrates when you play a song on your phone.
it gives you the feeling that the phone has a really good speaker.
battery life. my own experience. it lasted for 2 days with out of the box configuration. well on standby of course.
ui lag. maybe you should turn on developer options. adjust the animations or turn it off completely and see whether that improves the ui

one problem i am facing here. Is it able to charge the phone battery to 100%?
Until 4 hours still in 99%. Yesterday was charging whole night still in 99%. Is it normal?

I always can have it charge to 100% without fail each time but I m using ipad 2.1A charger. Takes about 2.25 hours from about 5%

Lag is subjective. Honestly I find HTC One is more laggy vs this phone n S4. Especially scrolling on blinkfeed is slight jerky n any other 3rd party newsfeed similar type app beats it flatly

mine can goes till 100%, but very fast >>99%, now standby 5 hours + just now a call + checking some things,

looks good in standby

Mybe need to calibrate.drain until zero n full charge.

No I'm not demanding for an Led flash.. For me it's not a deal breaker.. What I mean is HTC One better when taking picture in low light condition than this phone, without using flash on both..
2 days on standby only? That's is quite bad, I think.. Well, I just hope this at least can lasts from 7am to around 9pm daily for me (means it last that long by me doing anything I want/need, not by restricting this and that). If it can, I'm happy enough. My HTC one, 100% at 7am, by 4-5pm already low bat..

For such a big screen I guess it needs all the hardware it can use, I notice not lag but more of jerkiness when you scroll left and right between pages. Perhaps it is the Sony UI which interferes with it's smoothness.

I'm also a HTC one user contemplating whether to trade in my device or use the Sony xzu as a 2nd device. I can't notice the same jerkiness when scrolling between pages from sense 5, making the only reason for upgrade is the bigger screen to replace my tablet.

for me there is not a big issue, there is almost less than 10% i will taking picture at dark situation...

I'm with you on this. A phone is a phone, a tablet is a tablet. I like hybrid device such as cameraphone but I don't like phablets. Maybe up to 5.5 inch maximum but 6.44 inch is pushing one too far. To put salt on the wound, the square shape that Xperia line is also not pocket friendly too. I find out similarly screen sized Galaxy Mega 6.3 far more pocketable than Z Ultra.

I carry 2 phones all the time , iP5 and XZU, for me Flash doesn't bother me at all.

All i want is One Phone is big Screen >6" and lighter like XZU...the only cons i found on this device is Lag of LTE..

When LTE model launched, we spend money again to upgrade.. Wuuhuuu..

LED flash and LTE is actually a huge setback for RM2299 phone. At this price, both feature should be present because mid end phone like Mega have this two feature. For a person with Mega, it'll be a partial downgrade.

Maybe XZU LTE version may never come to Malaysia

I'd say for most practical purposes, the LED flash is a non-issue since you shouldn't be taking any flash shots with a cameraphone in the dark anyway. If it's a night shot, perhaps something like a colorful place like Marina Bay or Shanghai's Bund will be feasible and WITHOUT flash. I took some nice pics with the Note 2 in Shanghai with no flash at all.

I agree on the LTE issue though. So as quite a number have speculated, the XZU 3G is probably a rush job. And screw the slimness for leaving out a flash and larger battery.

It should. I think there's people waiting to get LTE version of XZU.

But that time, Note 3, Honami, HTC Max and iPhone 5s is revealed. XZU LTE might not get that much attention anymore due to other phone will be using S800 processor.

Well, the slimness is part of the problem. You also get a tradeoff on battery. I'm not bashing the phone itself, just the design decisions that went into it.

I will also wait to see how much a cracked screen costs, seeing that the XZ screen is RM1088 thereabouts.

Flash might help when you want to take photo against bright background. And flash can do few photography tricks. And of course, can used as flashlight.

But it's not an important issue. But it's nonetheless a partial downgrade.

i just found out that there are a lot of apps that will launch itself and running in background during startup of the phone. so annoying...

End up buying the xzu white today at lowyat plaza expo! Paid the standard price ie rm2299 and got the following :-
1) 32gb memory card
2) power bank
3) Sony bluetooth watch
4) front and back screen protector
5) Sony t-shirt
6) Sony black flip cover

Initial impression, screen is a joy to use but if u ask me to compare with HTC one the one is still a more practical and sexy phone. Nevertheless this will be my current tablet + phone all in one until something else comes along. Traded in the one for rm1500 as I figured newer models will be coming in the next few months.

I charge my UZ till 100% and plug out at 1am, go sleep wake up at 9am, still 99%,
while in standby mode, the battery like never goes down. superb, but if u surf internet and watch vid or play game a lot or even constantly open ur phone to see time or admire the screen,lol, confirm ur battery will drop quite fast.

My ZU roughly like this, maybe others can share their settings or experience also?
