Sony boss say that there's no flash because they want to make thin phone.

LED flash and LTE is actually a huge setback for RM2299 phone. At this price, both feature should be present because mid end phone like Mega have this two feature. For a person with Mega, it'll be a partial downgrade.
*
I'd say for most practical purposes, the LED flash is a non-issue since you shouldn't be taking any flash shots with a cameraphone in the dark anyway. If it's a night shot, perhaps something like a colorful place like Marina Bay or Shanghai's Bund will be feasible and WITHOUT flash. I took some nice pics with the Note 2 in Shanghai with no flash at all.

I agree on the LTE issue though. So as quite a number have speculated, the XZU 3G is probably a rush job. And screw the slimness for leaving out a flash and larger battery.

this debate...still this debate...u see.. thr's a reason why Sony decided not to put LED flash... do u hav any idea of the slimness of the phone? letme tell u..
the slimness of the phone make the phone manageable for 1 handed operation and the slimness srsly helps alot..
why do i say so..cuz i had jz apply rubber phone cover which had jz add a tiny bit of thickness to my phone..and trust me..when i say..its not like ultra anymore...it lost is slimness sexyness its operation all is afected jz by dat phone cover..
once matt anti scratch Sp comes..im gona strip my beast naked..
about LTE..u jz wait..be patience~

i folo this thread for 3 version..jz stop debating about the LED..==
jz STOP... buy iBlazr....... if u want.........
*
Well, the slimness is part of the problem. You also get a tradeoff on battery. I'm not bashing the phone itself, just the design decisions that went into it.

I will also wait to see how much a cracked screen costs, seeing that the XZ screen is RM1088 thereabouts.

petition. By the way, this shatter proof sheet the Sony logo is it visible? Anyone care to share pictures. Never seen it before.  hmm.gif
*
The Sony at the top bezel. It is imprinted on the sheet instead of on the glass.....that is something I really cannot fathom.

When you remove the sheet, you are left with a completely blank screen glass with no markings on it. Click on the link in the few posts above and you will see the 2nd pic, the guy is removing the sheet, and on the 3rd pic, there is no more 'Sony' on the screen.

Sorry to ask, but what is the function of the shatter proof film? If I don't use screen protector on top of it, if in future the shatter proof film got badly scratch, can I send to Sony to replace new one?
*
My understanding (purely my opinion) is that this works like the tint screens in your car. It stops the BROKEN glass from flying all over the place, but doesn't protect your glass very much. Or maybe it is like the "armor" tint screens that do help a bit in reducing the probability of shattering.

Is the metal connector hit the screen...
*
A piece got gouged? Hopefully it gouged your shatterproof sheet. So you probably have to remove it and lose the Sony logo at the top bezel.

You must be very heavy handed using the pencil. I have been using my ballpen replacing my finger past 10 days on the display n yet to see even a hairline scratch on display. I have no screen protector yet.  The pressure of the ballpen point is even heavier than pencil.
*
Actually uncle, that is the weak point of the stylus capability of the XZU. I suppose using the soft rubber tipped normal capacitive stylus will suffice, since the XZU only needs something conductive.

Then again, our friend must be heavy handed. tongue.gif

i wasn't even writing.. i was merely unlocking the screen o.O it was a blunt 2b pencil, perhaps the carbon on the pencil had a few rigid points. i'll take a pic of the pencil and screen tomorrow. Pencil is in office >.>
*
Pencils will leave carbon dust, which is CONDUCTIVE. If it gets into the chassis you will be in serious jialat tongue.gif

Pen ink may smear across the screen, and this was demonstrated in one of the videos from the HK site from about 2 weeks back.

Uncle is smart to use an empty ball pen.

Question to the aesthetes.

After how many iterations of the same squarish glass panel design will you start saying the "Sony's designs are so boring, just a large glass slab" ?

It is a large glass slab....

Very nice. The reason for the large top and bottom bezels are entirely due to the anorexia of the device, coz the mainboard and daughterboard are the ones taking up all the bezel space.

Another 2mm thickness and the device could have been shorter. Looks like the back panel is just glue plus a thin O-ring. I wonder how the Sony center deals with RMAs and waterproofing of repaired units.

Yes.  Apparently warranty is void if one removed the film. Only using ballpen as stylus is not so smooth.  Finger n pencil is normal as before.
*
Warranty void from removing a "screen protector" ??? shocking.gif It's not like they're going to give you warranty if you happened to break your screen.....

Maybe we can check with local sony warranty policy regarding the XZU ASF.. maybe different region different policy? or the one Unlce Benny posted is from local Sony SC response?

Anyways, if so, lets hope changing the ASF wont cost more than RM50 if its true~  doh.gif
*
From the way videos and pics have been posted on how the ASF is removed, I don't think this can be applied by hand. One of the posts on the XDA thread mentioned that it came as a full assembly with the screen, and it's GBP 200 to replace the whole screen (for XZ, not XZU). I wouldn't expect any LESS than that for the XZU. Screen = 0.5times device price????

Make.Believe it man.

It's a SONY™

Picture taken just now using my XZU.. Not bad in low light condition.. This picture looks very nice viewing on XZU maybe coz of the XZU display.. Like looking at a HD movie scene. Lol.. But not sure if viewing on computer how..
*
Uh...a lot of noise. Looks like any typical phonecam pic at night. I'm pretty sure the flash wouldn't have helped if it had one.

haha i know.. it is just auto setting only.. i'm no good in photography.. this is a phone camera anyway, and i was just want to see how it is taking picture in low light condition on XZU, and i think the camera is nothing inferior compare to other flagship phones eventho lacks of flash, that the point.. all camera phone that i ever use are smudgy in low light lah.. i never use lumia tho, not interested at all at nokia.

You could try manually setting ISO to 400 and bumping EV to 1.5 or 2 then hold your hands steady.

I'd say, for those who do not use the stylus frequently, the XZU is the best large device.
I do use the stylus frequently, so I was sorely disappointed with the XZU and its awful stylus capability which is not very different from the response of a regular capacitive screen.

Just sharing a photo taken  during my trip to singapore late evening yesterday.

Been using the xzu for almost 2weeks now but honestly I am still not very impressed with it. This is the first sony smartphone ive ever used n this is my POV  cool2.gif  :

The goods:
-Superb 6.5" 1080 display..a bit whitish when crank to full brightness
-Super sexy n super thin....top notch build quality..
-Camera seem to be very nice in good lighting.. The front cam is good as well
-Speedy fast phone..opening n closing apps good, multitasking good.
-Good battery life.. Am impressed with the power even with the big display

The bads:
-Super bad speaker..listening music, movies n youtube with loud speaker is a real nightmare for me! I reallyx3 hate the speaker!
-I will never wake up in the morning if I use this phone as my alarm clock!
-Using the headphones doesnt really help as well.. Till now I still cant find the right adjustments to suit my ears! Tuning to 8tracks with the headphones made my cry..haha
-Bad os overlay..very glitchy at times if u put widgets on the homescreens
-Dont take pictures at night! Just memorize the moment! Lol!
-The pencil feature thing is a useless crap
-Hate the usb port n headset jack location..shud be on top or bottom instead of the sides

For now, im starting to miss my mighty note 2 already..
This is my personal POV n im just an average user..no bashing please..just feel like sharing...smile.gif
*
Swap it out when the Note 3 arrives tongue.gif

Ultrapixel was because the pixel size increased, but the sensor size is the same. If they made it 8mp, the sensor will be larger, thus increasing cost..... hmm.gif
