In just few hours time, Google going to open keynote with most likely launching of Next Generation of Nexus 7. The new Nexus 7 still being partner with ASUS, so we should expect same distribution channel and warranty rclxms.gif .

Here is the timeline for Nexus 7 tablets:-

1. First Gen Nexus 7 was revealed on June 27, 2012, at Google I/O. Two models of the Nexus 7 were available at launch, one with 8 GB of storage, priced at US$199 and one with 16 GB of storage, priced at US$249. Due to low price of 8GB version, Google mostly selling 8GB version online directly from Google Play Store. 16GB version was widely available at other popular e-commerce site and worldwide.

ASUS Malaysia launched only 16GB version of Nexus 7 in Malaysia market with SRP of RM999.

2. In October 2012, the Nexus 7 lineup was revised: the 8 GB model was discontinued, the price of the 16 GB version was reduced to US$199, and a 32 GB variant was introduced at the US$249 price point. Google also announced new Nexus 7 32GB version with HSPA+ mobile data support for US$299.

ASUS Malaysia dropped current Nexus 7 16GB version to RM899 while introduced Nexus 7 32GB version with HSPA+ data support for RM1,099.

3. Here is the specification of next generation of Nexus7:-

Attached Image

3 versions will be avaiable:-

1. 16 GB WiFi for US$229
2. 32 GB WiFi for US$269
3. 32 GB WiFi with LTE for US$349

fonepad can never match the specs of the new nexus 7. You are comparing between a 2000cc car and a 1200 cc car
if Google carries on the same type of pricing strategy, it is a no brainer - the New Nexus 7 is definitely a better buy even if it costs up to RM200 more ( only disadvantage is probably you cannot make calls on it)

what so special about Tegra 5? hmm.gif I dun really care it is Nvidia, Samsung or Qualcomm cpu as long as it is fast. biggrin.gif

If Newegg Malaysia can bring it in with good price like the Nexus 7 32GB, will consider getting one for myself and pass the Nexus 7 32GB to my son, now we are sharing it. laugh.gif

hmm.. if it's using S4, maybe we can expect LTE connection in the revised version like first gen Nexus 7 gets H+. Hope to have 32GB or even 64GB at launch, cos game files are getting bigger and bigger nowadays, 16GB felt rather little liao

by looks i think they will announce it later, probably late june for the new Nexus 7 (or henceforth name would change) and the new android version. Like how they did want to hold an event last year for Nexus 4, 10 and Android 4.2 but ended up cancelling the event due to bad weather. just don't lose hope, keep your heads up for more news, the i/o isn't over yet too. Let's see what they're going to do in the last keynote presentation.

Wow it's been a year already?

I remember I was one of the fanboys who was so eager to get the nexus 7 first gen.

It was really fun the first few months, but then I got speaker issue, and slowly noticing the inconsistency of tegra 3 to provide smooth experience, and the pain of low storage. End up selling it.

The 2nd gen seems promising with better hardware. smile.gif

This is much worth waiting than Tegra 3 grouper.
Tegra is really over-rated due to NVIDIA's reputation.

If only things were like that, ASUS memang inflate the their phone/tablets price kao kao over here in Malaysia.

USD229 direct convert to RM (Let's say 3.1) is about RM709 <---- Expect Asus Msia to sell it around RM900+ laugh.gif

USD249 (32GB) become RM1k laugh.gif

You will know when you see the trend for the pricing in the past for example LG Nexus 4, ASUS Nexus 7 (all the variants), ASUS Fonepad, etc

the nexus 7 2013 shared the same specs as my Sony xperia tablet z except mine was 10.1". and that mean it will perform demm good especially with pure Google experience. if only there will be a nexus 8, I think 8" size the best for a mini tablet. n I hope Sony will the one that made it. laugh.gif

but as usual, the thing I hate bout nexus is no sd card support.

I believe Nexus is trying to be like Apple option. All build in memory and let consumer choose.

Talking about performance, pure Google always win nod.gif

if they are still using the old pricing formula for the original N7, it will be US Price x 3.1 + RM50 for shipping and handling to your doorstep - awesome price i would say.

The current 32GB WiFi estimated to be 269x3.1+RM50=RM883.90, more or less the same as previous model. Can't wait to get mine. biggrin.gif

I see some sellers are alredi putting a price of RM1k for 16gb version. Is that price ok? Or should we wait for other sellers or order from Newegg?

yes, a bit disappointed with Google in this matter. But there is a simple solution although not elegant - just use an OTG cable and plug in a 64GB thumb drive as what i am doing now. This has an added advantage - you can use the thumb drive in multiple devices. biggrin.gif

Great pieace of device. Great specs. But the design is just so so cuz of the huge bezzel. But I'm still thinking of buying it since it's a good deal. If they could make it thinner bezzel that will be no doubt a best device in 2013.

Only WiFi models available next month.LTE need approval so few weeks later, so atm 32GB Wifi model going to be popular model...

Newegg Malaysia will definitely bring in 32GB wifi model ASAP if got stock. Expected local selling price about RM900. Hopefully ASUS Malaysia learn lesson here by pricing Nexus7 32GB version right. If not,we all going to book through Newegg Malaysia and with international warranty no big issue

i think it might very well due to the cost. snapdragon 600 still qualcomm flagship right now until real product with snapdragon 800 comes out. as a flagship product i don't think qualcomm want to sell it cheap. but in the end qualcom still win because the new N7 choose their processor. with Texas Instruments leaving the SoC business there are hardly any other choice. so far samsung exynos still pretty much limited to samsung product only and nvidia T4 was purposely delayed by nvidia to so they can bring in their T4i faster to market.

At least S600 la. S4 Pro so outdated.
*
Snapdragon S600 = APQ8064T
Snapdragon S4Pro = APQ8064

You can roughly get about 80% of APQ8064T's performance with APQ8064.The SOC is still an excellent SOC.IMO the price of SOC fits new Nexus 7 since Google want to keep the price low. You guys will get good price/performance with this tablet.

QUOTE(XeactorZ @ Jul 25 2013, 11:49 AM)
why only Europe set compatible with our Malaysia 4G network ?
*
I think our telcos's are using 2600Mhz spectrum for LTE.There's 1 more I forgot.
It's not European set compatible with Malaysian LTE,device with compatible LTE will work in Malaysia.

i think it might very well due to the cost. snapdragon 600 still qualcomm flagship right now until real product with snapdragon 800 comes out. as a flagship product i don't think qualcomm want to sell it cheap. but in the end qualcom still win because the new N7 choose their processor. with Texas Instruments leaving the SoC business there are hardly any other choice. so far samsung exynos still pretty much limited to samsung product only and nvidia T4 was purposely delayed by nvidia to so they can bring in their T4i faster to market.
*
I'm just shocked they use the same proc as Nexus 4 that release last year.

There is other reason why use snapdragon compare to tegra.

Because qualcomm provide 1 full solution for the device.
Asus just follow the design from qualcomm will do.
Do not need to find and match other ic.

Safe time and money.

But Qualcomm chip worst in stability and handling compare to samsung and tegra chip.
Hope nexus 7 have extra external codec that not from qualcomm (this cost from few $ to almost $20) or else, the sound quality will suck to the max..

i think they know about it already. hence the delay of Tegra 4 so they can speed up the development of their integrated soft modem inside their tegra. now they already know how to integrate it the next iteration of Tegra should include the soft modem without the need for separate version. although they can keep their current strategy; Tegra 4 for tablets and high end phones and the T4i for mainstream phones.

device with Tegra 4i won't coming out at least early next year. as for tegra 4 there are few device using it like ZTE Geek and Xiomi Mi3. also some of Tegra 4 tablets already shipping like the Toshiba one. when it comes to tegra 4 it should compete directly with Snapdragon 800. i saw a lot of design wins of snapdragon 800 with phones or phablet but i haven't heard much about it in tablets yet.

ya , tegra loses almost everything in front of qualcomm , include CPU and GPU , this got proved in MANY benchmarking . However , Tegra did get some better optimization work on gaming done(especially tegra optimized apps) .

And i have both Exynos , Qualcomm , Tegra tried , in real life usage , i quite fed up with tegra , including daylife usage and gaming . Exynos has best Apps Optimization in my opinion . (just ignore that extended effect apply on tegra apps)

actually tegra 4 gpu looses to adreno 330 isn't really new. when qualcomm officially launch snapdragon 800 the benchmark already indicate it will be faster than tegra 4 gpu. but on cpu side of thing tegra 4 might be slightly faster than snapdragon 800 due to A15 inside tegra 4.

Any links? From personal usage of tegra and Qualcomm devices I've found tegra to be pretty disappointing. Unless you're referring to tegra 4 which are not on any available products at the moment

Really really tempted to get one but it may seem redundant because it is only 2" bigger than my phone. If it has a phone function, I would seriously consider making the Nexus 7 II my primary phone..

Asus Nexus international warranty. My first nexus 7 from USA change motherboard after a month ( my fault's hard brick it) . Sent in to Asus JB n was told need motherboard change but will be FOC. Surprised as the tablet keep booting to clockwork mod recovery. All hard button cannot boot to fastboot mode. End of day I got a free unit replacement as technician somehow screwup changing motherboard
No need even show proof of purchase and serial no is sufficient to claim

The tablet must always be placed on the charging pad? And the charging pad has to be connected to the wall socket by wire?

If so, how is that convenient or better than just plugging a cable to the tablet?

Ideal case, yes but practically (real life), impossible. Nothing is perfect.

You want it not to use electricity, you have to totally switch off the thing. Else do you really expect the wireless charging pad to wake itself up to start charging your phone when you place your phone on it? biggrin.gif

This also applies to transistors in all SoC. Ideal case, it should be consuming no power at all when one transistor is in its off state. But in real life, there's something called leakage thus making zero power consumption idle impossible biggrin.gif

Erm... As they shrink down a transistor (microarchitecture), reducing the length of the gate, the leakage is getting more and more serious. I remember I read before that 28nm is about the limit before the leakage gone too high.

That also explains why Intel started using FinFet for their Ivy bridge at 22nm and in Haswell, 22nm too. Reduced leakage!!

It actually not "a bit", it affects a lot. Else they will just keep shrinking without new tech. This explains why they need new architecture to keep up with the increase in performance and to keep leakage/power consumption low at the same time.

I just checked the Tech Specs for the new Nexus 7 again, and it seems that they've updated the LTE Part:

Does this mean that we will be able to use the LTE with the US version of LTE enabled Nexus 7 since 1800MHz is included?

Just now i use Amazon is also showing 3.42 conversion rate. So i don't allow them to charge in RM. Use back USD, now let see how much my credit card going to be charged.

Same scenario on Paypal.

But you'll prefer the Europe version.

Celcom Malaysia 1800 3 Yes May 2013 [139]
Celcom Malaysia 2600 7 Yes April 2013 [140][141]
DiGi Malaysia 2600 7 Yes July 2013 [142]
Maxis Malaysia 1800 3 Yes April 2013 [143]
Maxis Malaysia 2600 7 Yes January 2013

I believe they won't have both 1800 and 2600 covering the same area so it's better to get the EU version since it has both 1800 and 2600.

Anyway, without LTE, you'll be getting HSPA+ too. It is fast enough d, too fast means you burning your quote at a faster rate biggrin.gif

this nexus 7 looks tempting... i oledi have a tf300 10inch tablet but i found it it is pretty useless cos too big/heavy for ebook, gaming, online while holding it, so i am looking at a 7-8inch tablet for quite sometime, this nexus 7 is gooding, altho no snapdragon 800 but quite powerful edi.. but now came out thie xperia z ultra, 6.4inch phablet which is like all in one kind of device.. now my phone is s4, very tempted to change.. so dilemma now.. is it better to have a all-in-one phone for my usage or get a separate device? i scare i buy nexus 7 later put there gather dust like my tf300.. i only bring it to offshore but only use to watch movie, cos read book too heavy very hard, gaming also susah..

If you have all the $$ in the world, by all means just get all of them and see your pattern of usage (then maybe sell the one that is underutilized) but unfortunately beggars like me can't choose laugh.gif

Err... Brothers and sisters, to those who actually wonder if the US LTE actually works here, the answer should be yes. It's just the same as how the iPhones and iPads work here, because they all use band 3 as well.
The US Nexus 7 covers band 3 which is compatible with both Maxis and Celcom but not Digi at the moment.

That being said, if you're planning to go for the EU version, you're getting 1 more supported band here in Malaysia. So if you're using Digi, there are 2 options, 1 wait for the EU or local set, 2 get the US set and wait for Digi to introduce band 3 or maybe switch telco. I'm pretty sure Digi will try to cover band 3 as well cause the Apple folks need it. =D

the LTE band covered here only the 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz. last time apple made the iPad 3 to have bandwidth other than those 2. but now most device covers near all range band , so buy the Nexus 7 LTE laugh.gif

Well, its going to be more expensive because its from newegg, and not neweggbusiness. There's a 6% tax if buying from Newegg.

Update: saw the 16GB listed on neweggbusiness, hmmm.... Shark mode on har?

Shark mode always on la... How can a business man not want to make profit from their business. Agree? biggrin.gif Maybe when Asus officially announce it, their price will go down too. Hopefully down to around RM800 (they adjusted their conversion rate to 3.3 so it should be around 3.3*229+50=800) (16GB I mean)

"Previous version" as in? N7 V2012 local Asus price?

Don't quite understand biggrin.gif

Newegg sell 820 for N7 2012 32GB right? 249*3.1 + 49. It's lower than local price right?

Even times 3.3 also...

With their previous calculation for N7 V1 32GB (RM820), should be 229*3.3+50 = 805. Means they're making profit by selling 899 (I meant more profit). Anyway, that price should be alright for some people. I choose to wait biggrin.gif

(headache) . no point argue about the price after conversion and mentioned that it is expensive. Normally seller also need to make margin of the product. Some more the product is not yet available here. So it is their high time to sell and make $$$ before ASUS bring in to here. Once ASUS bring in, they cannot sell high and eventually need to drop the price. However, this process will probably end up for another 3-4 month. I recalled last time when i ordered my N7, Malaysia citizen need to waited for 4 month.

I'm not urgent on getting a tab. Also can't quite justify the need for a tab.

I understand that's how the market works. I'm not arguing either, just telling the prices quoted by those sellers in lowyat.

Oh, btw, I never used the word "expensive". What I did was just listing out all the prices. Anyway, icon_rolleyes.gif

Just wanted to chip in on whether the US LTE version would work in Msia. Our Malaysian LTE is on both 1800 MHz (Band 3) and 2600 MHz (Band 7). The US LTE N7 supports 1800 MHz (Band 3), much like the current iPhone 5, iPad and iPad mini. So the US LTE N7 should work here.

Thing is, the Euro version supports both 1800 MHz (Band 3) and 2600 MHz (Band 7). So for Msia, if the 1800 MHz band gets overcrowded with all the iDevices out there (which can only use the 1800 MHz Band 3 alone in Msia), then we still have the 2600 MHz Band 7 to serve us!

yeap. assuming that they did not change anything on the warranty department, my mom's N7 2012 purchased in the States had no problem claiming warranty here

*
AFAIK Band 3 has not been reprovisioned in Malaysia for LTE yet.

I'm afraid you are wrong there. It has been for some time now. That is the only reason current iPhones and iPads can connect via LTE in Malaysia. As far as Malaysia is concerned, iDevices only support 1800 Mhz (Band 3) LTE here. I have friends and relatives using their iPhones on LTE (where there is coverage, of course). Go do a Google search and you can verify easily.

newegg malaysia charges flat RM899 (16GB) and RM999 (32GB) inclusive of delivery.

i don't think you can order direct and ship it to malaysian address. you need to go through newegg malaysia.

The previous Kindle Fire HD is priced competitively to compete against N7 and other low budget tabs. So likely, amazon would live up to its expectations.

If you use amazon a lot, then it is ok. But then you will limited to kindle OS. Hardly saw them upgrade firmware. My kindle only updated twice for 3 years. Plus, kindle suitable @US. Not in Malaysia. Anyway, i still can install Kindle Reader on my nexus 7. So ... brows.gif

I'm not going to bring it around, that's why I choose nexus 10. It's so big and the screen is so perfect due to high resolution. I have my nexus 4 to carry around.

Btw, I do a lot of reading with it. Bigger the better. But of course, put it on table to use it la. tongue.gif it's really heavy.

Since i got my Note II which has superb battery life for tethering, i have no desire to get any 3G/LTE tablet. And i have a spare Note II battery with me anytime to swap in if it run out of juice. biggrin.gif

To me tethering from phone is not very dependable, the phone may probably run out of juice when you need to make a call. On the other hand, setting up hotspot could be quite troubling if you do it all the time.

Perhaps my argument is not plausible due to my lack of a data plan, as well as a tablet.
But I do find my smartphone's battery life un-dependable.
Perhaps it differs for your case wink.gif

dude... you are making a statement without any basis... you make an ideal candidate for some "common sense".

why do you comment that tethering is dependable nor is the process of setting up hotspot difficult when you do not do both at all?

one button can turn it on d except the first time you need to set up password and wifi name

custom rom can use those toggles ,stock rom u need go into setting for sure.

didnt found it to be troublesome, it help me to save on to get only one data plan during my travel at oversea , to tether with my gnexus with my gf ip5. Tether perfectly.

Depends per person basis, if you own a 5GB quota with abundant of juice, it wont hurt to tether rather than getting another separate data plan which cost an extra

If is mobile phone No tax/duty. If bring in as wifi tablet I was asked to pay 10% tax ( based on value+courier charges) plus another rm100 for Sirim permit.
The custom officer showed me his tax book showing 10% tax on tablets but none on mobile phones. That was for my second Nexus7 wifi 32gb unit

if wanna run out of juice then stop tethering lar
if you set up hotspot all the time you would know how to do it (just 1 toggle away in quick settings)

so yea, hilarious and yes, my english is impeccably good and reading your sentence sans the red highlights would bring along the same understand as well. i would believe its wiser to google your thoughts before posting it on the internet where stupidity is hardly tolerated and mostly made fun of.

i agree, been doing wifi hotspot / tethering with my galaxy Y since it's launch, and it's only good for 2 things, phone calls and hotspot. u can't type on it because the screen size is the same as the finger, u can't play games on it because it's a cheap a$$ piece of shxt, u can't do anything else with it except throw it into the wall when u got frustrated with it. best thing about it is it's super battery life (1200 mAH) that will last me 2 days at least with hotspot and some calls, 1 week if I use it rarely.

nowadays android's wifi hotspot doesn't eat a lot of battery. even on my Nexus 4 if I do hotspot also can last about 4 hours with a full charge, but rarely need to use it for that long, usually 30 min to 1 hour only.

so now, back on topic...

Hey Benny, I think this time my invoice mentioned it was a PC Tablet. So being a PC, there's no tax.

It's weird coz I remember they said they wanna lump tablets under PC equipment, that's why you can get income tax rebate. And I thought no tax as well.

Android and iOS are two very different systems all together, you should choose between Android or iOS first before going into A vs B comparisons

Garage sales cheapest should be from Dark Devon and a few others - 999/1k. Newegg Malaysia is selling 32GB for 999 also including shipping.

what do u mean retail price? in US retail 32gb wifi is 270 USD - about RM 891..but if u factor in shipping which is minimum also need RM 50, that goes to about RM 941...the rest can consider as commission for the seller...

I thought Nexus products never face any AOSP problems?
This is the advantage of owning a Nexus.
Nexus is supposed to be the most well-received Android device in the market.

Erm... You can read up on it. It happens to be a problem caused by Qualcomm. First in the Nexus One, then in the Nexus 4. Now Nexus 7. Glad Google fixed them and it's up now wink.gif.

To be specific, it's a problem with driver binaries. Without those, your phone basically won't display anything coz it's the driver for Adreno 320. Can you imagine your phone/tablet boot up without a driver for the GPU? biggrin.gif
