Launched in Malaysia 11th October, 2012. In stores from 19th October,2012
Malaysia has the N7100 model by Samsung Malaysia. The N7105 LTE model may be obtained from other importers but LTE coverage is very limited as of now (Q1 2013). There is also a dual-sim model (N7102) available in selected markets.
You may also get an "Access to the software update service..." message like in the pic link below. This just means that the Samsung update server is full. Try again at another time. Patience is virtue. Access to the software update service screenshot
Samsung does not provide any meaningful changelogs. SO NOBODY KNOWS WHAT HAS CHANGED COMPARED TO THE LAST VERSION(s).
For those who already know how to flash: Download official firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ - login first. You will download a zip file. Unzip it for the tar file to be used for flashing

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - 2013-03-15 I posted this as a comparison between 2 very recent Samsung models of different processor generations ( A15 vs A9 ) and most of the comments actually come out in the Note 2's favour.
Some of the comments:
QUOTE
brendan soliwoda • I much as I am digging this new phone, I am perfectly content with my Note II and will not be switching anytime soon.
Chirag Thakkar • if i m gonna change my note 2 the only device replacing it will be note 3.
Ben Barren • i would love the 441 ppi and thinner is better but smaller screen and no S-pen i'll still take Note 2 until Note 3 tho i'd love JB 4.2.2
Mathilda • I can't let go my samsung note 2, because i always need the S pen for my study and write down my note. Note 2 just like my notebook combine with my laptop. Samsung SIV is good, but for student, the features in Note 2 is the reason i can't let go note 2.
Romeo Bucur • I already made my choice 3 days ago. Just bought a note 2 and i don't regret it for a second.. the s pen and the large display make browsing the web a very nice experience.. and about the "ppi" war.. note 2 has a beautiful display.. certenly more than the averege user will ever need... can' wait for note 3...
k brooks • Ive had my note 2 since September and I still love it and it's still makes the I phone 5 look like a kiddies toy. The screen on the note 2 is still superb (even tho its not full hd) and very bright. I've got 118 apps installed , and it is still as fast as it was when I first got it (which surprises alot of people). The battery life is another great bonus. I'll upgrade , but only to the note 3. I'm sure the S4 will sell very well though and is great for people who can't handle the extra size of the note 2
Aliff Alfiry • Nope, I won't change my Note II for S4. As you can see by now, Note is in it's own league, and the only true successor to Note II is the Note III, not S4. Both cater for different market. S4 for mainstream market, Note for niche market. Alas, I'm sure most of Note II users will wait till Note III comes out and then decide to buy it or not, because going to S4 feels like downgrading no matter how great the performance and screen quality are
A review by ZDNet on 2013-02-03 Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Big enough to be worth the trouble - James Kendrick Excerpt: Conclusion: the best phone I have ever used This article has only touched on some of the features that make the Note 2 so useful. Useful is a good description for the Note 2 as it is easily the best phone I have ever used. It's certainly not for everyone, which is true for any smartphone, but for those looking for an innovative phone in the crowded Android space the Note 2 is worth a look.
A review of the Note 2 about 3 months after launch (in December 2012) and still shows up favorably against newer phones. Galaxy Note II - After The Buzz - post-hype review 2012-12-06 - contributed by klmc

QUOTE(benny888 @ Mar 11 2013, 09:02 AM)
TS (christina1, NOT joytest) is already using a note2 n considering change to Xperia z. I suggest she consider the butterfly instead. I have used all these 3 phones n seriously Xperia z n butterfly cannot be compared to note2 due its much bigger display n spen features. Butterfly n Xperia Z quite similar in performance but butterfly thrumps the Xperia Z in display quality n very obvious audio quality. Camera wise both quite similar but Xperia z camera launching is dreadfully miserably slow. Slowest I have seen to date. Xperia Z advantages is waterproof n dustproof
I am not dissing the other phone. I am just quoting what others have replied when asked which phone should one choose when given a choice between Note 2 and something else.
I am of the opinion that to date, there is nothing out there that can yet compare with the Note 2 simply due to the inclusion of the active digitizer and its pocketability.

What's in the sales package (applies only to SME sets)
A sealed box with the blue Samsung sticker and an e-Warranty sticker.
The serial number and IMEI stickers are at the side.
In the box you will find the phone, battery, a WHITE 3-pin charger rated at 2A, a WHITE micro-usb cable, a pair of WHITE headphones and a short manual which also describes e-warranty.
NOTE: If you are getting an AP set, the charger will have the pin configuration of the region it came from (eg 2 round pins for Europe sets) NOTE: If you get a set with a BLACK charger and BLACK cable, you may not be getting a Note II and it is likely a knockoff.
How to check your phone
Check your IMEI by dialing *#06# and compare it with the one on the sticker on the box. It has to be the same. There could be an extra "/01" which you can ignore.
Check all your phone's features by dialing *#0*#. You will get a full screen of clickable boxes. Click each one to ensure that those respective features are tested and working fine. Hit the back button to exit the test you are in. The screen you will see is this:
Remove the battery and confirm that there is a SIRIM sticker (applicable only to SME sets). Then compare the serial number, ensure it matches with the one on the box sticker.
Go to Settings>Storage and ensure that it is showing 10.36Gb total space (if you have a 16Gb device) This is the correct amount of free storage after the default software is loaded.

The Battery
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
My 2 cents about battery use: Firstly, ALL USERS here on this forum report usages >12hours ie 1 whole day out, with at least 3hours AND MORE of "Screen On Time" or what we term "SOT". Typical battery life tends to be 4+hours SOT with 18+hours total use. This is a SMARTPHONE and should be enjoyed for all its wonderful features of large screen for movies/browsing/reading, powerful CPU for gaming, data connectivity for surfing etc. If you can get 1 whole day's use out of a full charge, I don't see why there is a need to complain. Charge when you are sleeping. Read the link about batteries, and you won't kill your battery from overnight charging.
IF you are getting less than 3hours SOT, and/or less than 12 hours of total use, then the most likely cause is some badly behaved app or apps that won't go to sleep and keeps your CPU running high. See Advanced Topics for Wakelocks and what to do about them.
See Post 11 for some of our forumer's Battery Life Records.
The non-linear nature of Quick Charge significantly shortens charge time, particularly in the very early stages of charging when the device's battery is presumably fully discharged. As the device's battery voltage increases, current delivery tapers off and the QC advantage is no longer as great as a standard USB BC 1.2 solution. The end result though is significantly improved charge times.
The graph below shows the benefits of using Samsung's own charger vs. a standard charger that implements the USB BC 1.2 specification. When used with the bundled charger, the Galaxy S 4 recharges much faster than HTC's One, despite using a larger battery. Obviously the Galaxy S 4 will charge with any USB charger, but the charge time will simply be longer. Samsung uses a voltage divider and signals the presence of their own charger by sending 1.2-1.3 V across the D+ / D- pins, this is similar to what Apple does with 2.0 or 2.8 V across the pins for various USB chargers they've shipped over the years. This signaling is essentially Samsung's proprietary tablet charging signaling which they've employed on the Galaxy Note 2 and now SGS4, in fact the two use the same exact charger, so it's worth tossing out your old ones and getting the appropriate one to take advantage of the faster charging.

How tough is Gorilla Glass 2?
How Gorilla Glass is made with Corning's Fusion Process
Cost to replace a cracked screen - PrinceCaspien The Note 2 screen has a Wacom digitizer, and this is bonded to the glass during assembly. When you replace the screen at the service center, both will get replaced as a single assembly.
If you are adventurous, you can try to do it yourself. See Advanced section.
The MicroSD card slot
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The Note 2 has a microSD card slot. MicroSD (or sometimes abbreviated "usd/uSD" card since "u" looks like the Greek letter "mu") is the physical format of the card. The logical format (ie how the computer/phone sees it) can be FAT16, FAT32, exFAT or even NTFS.
FAT32 officially supports up to 32Gb, and the max file size LIMIT for FAT32 is 4Gb.
Cards greater than 32Gb will default to 64Gb and be in exFAT format. Only Windows 7 and above support exFAT natively. Vista and Windows XP need additional drivers.
Nominally the exFAT standard supports up to 2Tb (terabytes) of storage, with a filesize limited only by your storage volume size.

S-Pen (usage and settings)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 2 works in conjunction with the Wacom digitizer bonded to the screen. The digitizer creates an electromagnetic field that detects the S-Pen up to 12mm away. Jointly, this also allows for more precise content manipulation and rendering. The Air View feature, for example, uses the digitizer to preview content based on the proximity of the S-Pen to the display.
The S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 2 is longer, thicker, and more ergonomically designed compared to the one in the original Galaxy Note. The S-Pen allows for some of the Note family's (the original Note, Note 10.1, Note 8.0, Note II) most innovative features, including Easy Clip, which allows quick cropping of images by simply pressing the S-Pen button; Quick Command, which activates frequently used apps just by swiping up on the display; and Air View, which allows previewing of content when the S-Pen is placed near the display.

One of the world's most recognised people is also a proud Note 2 owner:
Yet it does almost everything it sets out to do perfectly, with grace, class and maximum functionality that if you're in the market for a larger smartphone or a small tablet, there really is no better device.
Verdict Having used the GALAXY Note II for a longer period, its power continues to shine through. It's by far one of the best media devices on the market, and whether you use the inbuilt web browser or Google Chrome, you'll always be whizzing around the internet no matter if you're using 4G, 3G or Wi-Fi.
Users are almost unanimous in their love of the functionality on board, be it as a phone, a tablet, a PC (with the Smart Dock) and even being able to show the screen on a larger TV using All Share.
In short, the GALAXY Note II shows that Samsung has managed to create a new class of device, one that fits between the common lines between devices and shows a whole new world is possible with one of these in your pocket.
The 4 Best Android Phones Available Right Now - 2013-04-09 6 months after launch, the Note 2 is still a major contender as a Top-of-the-Line phone against all newcomers. Standout specs: Gigantic 720p display, stylus, quad-core processor, 2GB RAM.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Why it’s great: This phablet proved that some users will happily buy a cross between a smartphone and tablet rather than two separate devices. The fact the Galaxy Note II has excellent hardware no doubt helped the case – inside you’ll find one of the strongest quad-core processors on the market, gobs of RAM, an SD card slot that can handle up to a 64GB card and a huge battery.
And then there’s the stylus. Samsung has found some innovative ways to make it an essential device for texts, document editing and web navigation. There’s no other Android phone that can provide more value to consumers who productivity on-the-go.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Quick background: I'm probably what most would consider an average smartphone user. I use my phone for fairly common things: email, text, weather, YouTube, browse the web, Google Reader (RIP). Nothing too heavy. I’ve owned an iPhone 3G, a Samsung Captivate (OG Galaxy), Atrix 2, and a HTC One X.
I recently upgraded to a Note II (refurbished for $0.99 from AT&T, woot woot) and it's completely changed the way I use my phone, but not for the reasons you might imagine.
Yes, the large screen is nice and has changed the way I browse the web. I can open up the desktop version of a website and read all of the text without having to zoom in, at all. But the real thing that has changed how I use my phone? Battery life. And this isn't even bespoke to the Note II. The Razr Maxx (HD) gets great battery life. But I wanted to post this to let people who are in the market for a new phone know that battery life really will change how you use your phone.
From the moment I leave for school in the morning until the moment I go to sleep at night, I never, ever, even think about my Note II’s battery. No matter what I'm doing. Watching 20 minutes of YouTube? Don't even think about it. Using Maps with GPS turned on? Don't think about it. Streaming music during my 45 minute commute? Nope, don’t think about my battery. In the past, all of these things would have had me frantically checking my phones battery. It wasn’t until I got the Note II that I realized just how much I had been worrying about my phone's battery. I used to constantly check it because below about 50%, all the phones I mentioned above would plummet.
I just upgraded from the VZW G-Nex up to the Note 2. Like OP said, it really has changed the way I use my phone. With my Nexus, I kept a dock in my office, one in my home office, and chargers plugged in the living room and bedroom as well. Playing a game on an emulator with a USB controller plugged in would drain my battery from full to shutdown in 90 minutes. Even just GPS and Pandora on my 30 minute commute would knock the battery down to 75%.
With the Note 2, even with the gigantic screen, I have not yet gotten a battery warning, ever. For a week I still carried my SIM-less Nexus, figuring I could use it for music and games and "save my precious phone battery." Honestly though, even using the Note for music, games, social networking and office apps throughout the day, the battery has held up like a champ. I presume heavy data usage over the mobile data rather than wifi will eventually beat up the battery, like it does on any phone, but honestly overall I'm just completely blown away by the user experience of this phone. ===== theklinksGalaxy Note II, Stock 9 points 19 hours ago
I went through the same upgrade -- VZW Gnex to Note 2 -- and actually got frustrated when I couldn't drain the Note 2's battery in one day. Now that I'm used to it, I freaking love it. I can use the hell out of the Note 2 and not worry that I'll be dead in the water on the commute home. ===== ToiletNinjasGalaxy Nexus 4.1.1, Galaxy Tab 10.1 Stock, Archos 70 6 points 19 hours ago
One random luxury I've noticed - Splashtop is a DREAM on this phone. Obviously gaming lags insanely and is a poor idea, but it is really nice for viewing content on my desktop, starting up a download to be waiting for me when I get home, or monitoring my system. Even the Nexus' decent sized screen felt a little small, and the curve made it awkward, but the Note 2 really feels like a little "desktop remote". ===== DrDerpbergNexus S, Nexus 4 61 points 17 hours ago
I can see it now: a commercial where you get wrapped up in whatever you're watching on your Note II at breakfast. You ignore your food, leaning in focusing on the screen. Time skips a bit and the shadows in your room are different, but you're still staring at the screen with your food in front of you. Time skips again, to the evening. And again, to the middle of the night, with you passed out in your eggs and bacon but still just barely holding your Note II up, chugging happily along.
The tag might be something along the lines of "This phone has more energy than you do", but I'm no marketing guru. ===== vincredibleGalaxy Nexus (VZW) 43 points 20 hours ago
I agree completely. I had a Galaxy Nexus before I switched to my Note II (both on Verizon) and I had to be so careful with my time spent using the phone. It got decent battery life with the screen off, but even at the lowest brightness, just leaving the screen on for a few texts or a brief bout on Reddit would drain significant percentages of the battery. Don't even get me started on what 5 minutes of YouTube would do to it.
I felt the exact same way when I switched to the Note II. For the first few weeks, I was so giddy over the battery life, I was watching it like a hawk, mainly because I wanted to benchmark how awesome it was (and it was pretty awesome), but once I got past the honeymoon phase, it just became this thing I never thought about again.
Until I read this thread, I probably hadn't actually looked at my battery meter in days. I charge it at night but I never know how low it is when I plug it in - it's certainly not low enough to be of concern. I do whatever the hell I want on this phone. An hour of YouTube, 6 hours of streaming music at work, calls, texts, Reddit, downloading, uploading, games, GPS. None of it matters. I don't have to worry about whether my WiFi/BT/GPS is on or off and potentially hurting my battery life. The thing just chugs along and never ever gets low. It just works the way I need it to work.
Excellent write-up concering what is easily my favorite aspect of the Note II!
by Charles Chambers Used to be a diehard iPhone fan since 07. Switched to android in 11 and I love it. The difference between android and iOS: iOS is like living in a nice hotel. You don't have a lot of choice but it looks nice and easy to use. Android is like buying your own home. Buy an really nice home (android device) and you will probably love it. You can change and customize it however you want. It's yours! You can also buy cheap.
Computer pioneer Alan Kay says the iPad has “been dumbed down so far it’s distressing” (2013-03-29)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
“The iPad’s been dumbed down so far it’s distressing. And Microsoft of course followed suit with its interface.”
Kay claims the iPad is an anti-personal computer and not only is difficult, but doesn’t allow for symmetric creation. Instead of personal computers being designed “as a place where people are going to spend a lot of time and different people can exist there”, their design is based on marketing and the most number of devices being sold to the largest number of people.
Kay has a vast experience working with mobile computing devices dating back to the 1970s when he worked at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) which developed the first graphical user interface and personal computer. It was from there that Steve Jobs and Bill Gates got their ideas for what would become the two largest operating systems on the planet, Windows and Mac OS.

A word about the terms "AP" and "Ori" (not the best choice of terms, but this is Bolehland ) A real Samsung (or any manufacturer's) device is Original whether it's SME or AP. We get our terminology confused due to the use of the term "AP" here whereas the correct term is "Parallel Import" or "Grey Market". And again due to the proliferation of counterfeit goods in this part of the world, the term "original" is also misappropriated to denote "Genuine".
SME vs AP is simply a matter of distribution channel for a Genuine product. You can also get "original" counterfeits since it comes directly from the manufacturer of said counterfeit.
Yoobao, it shows original. Yes but it has different messages to show if it's original Powerbank. Most of the time, those fellows buy cheap Yoobao accessories like screen protector and peel out the stickers and put on their fake Yoobao. So when you check warranty n it will show original but actually it's original for the screen protector not your Powerbank.
Powerbank's original message slightly differs.
I'm on mobile now. Let me go back home and check out more info for you guys.

As promised in my previous post, these are the two different authentication messages. Credit to mirrorstore, one of the original Powerbank sellers on LYN.
However only in Chinese characters, so for non-Chinese readers, you better compare yours with these messages. Check it from this website: http://www.sz12365.net
1) Original YooBao PowerBank's authentication message:
您所购买的是深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司生产的羽博正品产品,敬请放心购买使用!谢谢!
商品品牌 : YOOBAO
商品归属公司 : 深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司
2) Use other original Yoobao's accessories' code. The message: 您所购买的是深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司生产的YOOBAO羽博正品保护类专用品牌YOOBAO羽博正品保护类专用,感谢您对深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司产品的支持!
The easiest way to check is verify your warranty from this link: http://www.yoobao.com/defend.asp, make sure the message is same as no. 1.
http://www.sz12365.net also can be used to check for other brands' warranty, so it is better to use Yoobao's own verifier.
XDA site for Galaxy Note II (N7100 and N7105) Samsung Galaxy Note II - N7100 and N7105 XDA has 2 threads for Development (ie ROMs, kernels etc) discussions. The one called Android Development deals with ROMs/kernels/tweaks etc that are "cooked" ie modified from STOCK. The one called Android Original Development deals with ROMS/kernels/tweaks etc that are built from scratch (AOSP/AOKP) or are entirely original in their approach. Note that AOSP/AOKP does not fully support all Exynos features as Samsung has sadly not released the full details of the Exynos processor to the dev community.

This is the best way of detecting incoming charge current for your Galaxy Note 2 (also works on the S3). It does not seem to work on other devices. It reads a file here /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_avg This provides an objective method to compare charging variances, and will help to narrow down slow charging issues. Very often it is the cable, or a combination of a lousy charger with the cable. The Note needs a charger that outputs at least 1.5A (with GCC readings of 1400 and above) for good charging speeds.
After extensive testing by forumers, and most notably brotan, good chargers output 1500 and above. brotan has a supply of DUAL USB, DUAL 2A output chargers that have been tested working by several forumers. He also has original cables that can carry 2A current properly.
I knew something was wrong when it took my phone 6 hours to charge from 22% to fully charged on the stock kernel, so I had my carrier swap my data cable. Swapping the data cable didn't fix the random slow charging issue. If you view the battery stats under settings, your phone will indicate what kind of source it's getting its charge from. I discovered sometimes when you plug your phone in via the stock travel AC adapter, your phone detects it as a USB port. It's not the charger that is the problem, but how Sammy designed the charger port or an error during the assembly process. I found a work around to avoid the phone thinking it's being plugged into a USB port. Once I initially lineup the data cable with the charger port, very very gently push down on the data cable as you fully insert it into the charger port. If you don't do so, it's usually a hit or miss when it comes down to what the phone will detect between AC and USB mode. This is the first phone that I own that seems to have this issue. Every since I've figured out what's been happening, I've been able without fail to avoid the slow charging issue.
Note: Use GCC whenever you plug in and you can determine immediately whether it is charging as AC or USB. USB will show a reading of 460 only. Re-insert your cable until it reads above 1000.

Since we're actually going to discuss rooting, here is an article for you to understand why your phone is not supplied rooted out of the box: Why Doesn’t Android Come Rooted? - 2013-03-12
So now let us begin.
A very very brief description of phone architecture: portions of writeup credits to antt00 for clarification
The table shows components of the architecture from bottom to top. At the lowest level you have the physical hardware, then upwards you have the firmware and the rest. The userland is where the User (you) interact with the hardware using the programs/apps you installed.
I'm writing this because you are holding a portable COMPUTER that has phone capabilities. So you should treat your device like a COMPUTER first, and a phone and/or camera second. See this:LINK:Smartphones are the PCs of the future
A "ROM" typically contains a kernel, a radio (some have several you can choose from) and the userland. Some ROMs do not contain a kernel or you can elect not to install its default kernel and use the one you currently have. I provide a link further down this writeup to the Cyanogenmod wiki for a further explanation.
The Baseband or Radio contains settings to connect to the transmission towers, while the CSC contains settings specific to your mobile operator in the APN list (eg Maxis 3G, Maxis Streaming, Celcom 3G/2G etc)
Component
Changeable?
Description
Rest of ROM (userland)
Y
eg monx, Alliance, Phoenix (usually "ROMS" include the kernel and radio as well)
Kernel
Y
The Kernel is a low level component that handles management of the hardware. It exists in all Operating Systems like Linux, Windows, OSX etc. Android is based on Linux, and Google has been cooperating with the Linux community to merge kernel development effort. eg Abyss, Perseus, Redpill
CSC (Carrier/Country Specific Code
Y
CSC settings include the APN (Access Point Names) list for your region's telco settings. It provides some parameters for your specific telco (eg Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G, Maxis Streaming etc). Some ROMs contain multiple CSCs for more region support. You typically do not mess with this otherwise you will not be able to access the data network.
Baseband (also known as Radio)
Y
The radio handles your phone's hardware communications with the telco network. It simply allows your device to fulfill its phone function. eg DLK5, DLK7. Some apps allow you to change the network parameters used. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS unless you REALLY KNOW what you are doing!
This starts the phone booting process when you press the power button. It is also the location of flash counter. Triangle Away changes values here. The bootloader is UNLOCKED. However, there are no custom bootloaders yet for the Note 2.
Hardware (components)
N
Screen, Battery, the stuff you can touch
Of course someone like AdamOutler (on XDA) can mod the HARDWARE. That guy is a real guru.
You CAN mix and match components marked "Y" from different countries, kernel, ROMs etc. It's fine, although some Radio versions may give you reduced signal performance.

A note about CPU, RAM, ROM and "Storage" Think about you sitting at a desk with drawers. You are the CPU. The RAM is like your desk space. The larger your RAM or desk space, the more stuff you can work on at a time. But then of course, the more you work on, the more "you" is needed ie multi-core CPUs. Storage is like your drawers. The larger your drawers (storage) the more stuff you can store (your mp3s, mp4s, pdfs etc).
ROM, in this case, is technically "Read Only Memory". It is like the master plate used in printing, or perhaps a DVD. You can deface, tear or crumple your printout but you can always get a fresh printout by stamping from the master plate. So the ROM is actually a master plate or clean slate you can revert to if you have problems with FCs (forced closes) or random problems with your phone. You get the clean slate by performing a Factory Reset.
In your phone, the ROM resides on an area of Storage that is accessible by the Recovery. In the early days, a ROM was a physical chip that you replaced or re-flashed with special hardware. Nowadays everything is highly integrated.
Some additional clarification from Cyanogenmod if you're still not satisfied with the writeup here.
Now you can begin.
Rooting for Beginners - some general explanations and understanding
The simple, non-sexy, non-flashy, techie answer: root gives you administrator (ie God) access to your device. Root DOES NOT change your phone in any other way. No speed-ups, no slowdowns, no other changes or magic. But it OPENS THE DOOR to magic
Other answers using different metaphors:
Easiest Explanation EVER To Explain Root Vs Jailbreak Think of it like the Matrix: Jailbreaking is comparable to what Morpheus could do. He could bend the rules of the system to overcome certain restrictions, but was still bound to its rules. Rooting is what Neo could do. Not only could he bend the rules, he could completely break them
LINK:Difference between ios Jailbreaking and Android Rooting an excerpt: Now while IOS users might consider jailbreaking their iPhone the same thing as Android users rooting their Android phones, there is a HUGE difference. In fact, you can't even compare jailbreaking to rooting, and here's why. Android out of the box allows users to install 3rd party apps (also known as sideloading), already allows you to install themes, and even allows you to install applications directly from your SD card or internal memory of your device. Everything that IOS users hope to accomplish with jailbreaking their device is already included as basic functionality within Android.
Does Rooting Void warranty? For Samsung phones, it's a yes and no answer. From the terms and conditions, rooting/flashing will void your warranty, but Samsung Malaysia is not strict about this. So far there have not been cases of Samsung rejecting rooted phones, but please be prudent and perform a Triangle Away counter reset and flash stock firmware before turning in your phone for warranty.
If you live in the USA, rooting (of phones only) is legal as proclaimed by the Librarian of Congress, so you shouldn't have any issues with warranty. The US legal system has not clearly defined what a "tablet" is, so you can't root tablets. We don't know the case for "phablets"
Can rooting damage your phone? It is a one in a million chance. If you are afraid of this slim chance, don't root. This usually happens due to PEBKAC issues. Therefore, if you are prone to PEBKAC, do not proceed. Please google PEBKAC for your OWN UNDERSTANDING AND PROTECTION. If you do not suffer from PEBKAC, then please ensure 1 very important thing: your download is NOT corrupt. For Windows, use this tool: HashTab by implbits Make sure that your file MD5 matches the one from the host site. If the MD5 matches, your download is clean, and you may proceed.
There may be cases where you will not have the MD5 from the host site. If that is the case, use this tool: http://www.7-zip.org/ Install it. Select default options, and then run "Test archive" from the right click menu. Passing the test will give you a good indication your download is not corrupt.
What is the Flash Counter and Triangle Away? There is a counter in the phone that checks for flashing of custom ROMs. If you have flashed a custom kernel or ROM, the counter will increase. When you get into Download mode, it will show that the counter has increased. This tells Samsung that you have modified with your phone. You can reset this counter by using Triangle Away.
What is this about "locked bootloaders" ? As you have seen from the writeup above, the bootloader starts your device. In Samsung, it also contains some checking code to determine whether you have a modified recovery and/or kernel. However, Samsung did not lock down the bootloader. A locked down bootloader means you can't root, can't change recovery, kernel or ROM. We all fervently hope Samsung continues in this fine tradition.
Now, other manufacturers practice bootloader locking as a so-called "security measure" to protect, ostensibly, the user. See link above about why your phone is not rooted out of the box. Here is a link to a post by an XDA forumer about bootloaders for Samsung, HTC and Sony.
Also see this post (2013-03-08) by DooMLoRD, a recognized XDA developer, on his steps for unlocking the Sony bootloader. Warnings quoted from his post :
QUOTE
Quote: For Xperia™ devices released 2013 or later (for example Xperia™ Z and Xperia™ ZL), the SD card of your device will be formatted and you will lose all content (for example photos, music, videos) when you unlock the boot loader. DRM keys WILL be lost forever

Mod's response: Closing this thread as there is no better Rom than others. They are all different and one Rom that fits someone needs might not be suitable to another user.
After you're done rooting and flashed an appropriate Recovery, you can get into Recovery Mode for : 1. Flashing ROMs (rooted stock, custom ROMs, mods) 2. Performing system wipes 3. Performing "Nandroid" backups
Stock Recovery only allows you to perform system wipes.
Getting into Recovery Mode Press Power + VOL Up + Home buttons simultaneously while the phone is off. If you have difficulty getting into Recovery mode, > LINK:try this

Having said that, if you do not wish to take the first plunge to root and flash your phone, that is perfectly fine as well. All users here have report immense satisfaction with the stock rom and across the web the general consensus is also that Samsung has done very well with the stock rom of the Note 2, barring any Touchwiz haters.

My personal opinion is that naked phones are just accidents waiting to happen, and also that so-called "cases" that leave the top and bottom bezels exposed do not deserve the term "case". IMHO, a real case covers the entire bezel, the back and also a rim lip on the front face of the device. To each his/her own.

One piece of advice. PLEASE CHECK APP PERMISSIONS BEFORE INSTALLING. An app should not have permissions beyond what its stated functionality should be. For example, a Wallpaper app should have NO PERMISSIONS. A Launcher will naturally have access to permissions for Calling and SMS and Phone Hardware (vibrate settings etc).
If you install MyHotSexyGirlLiveWallpaper with access to Calls, Network Status and SMS, then ....
Semantics of Fear Applications claiming to be “antivirus” are merely detecting what has the potential to be malware, something that a developer of an application may have snuck into the software code that is meant to steal data or interact with the device in such a way as to cause it to send premium SMS messages at the victim’s expense. This is more correctly defined as being a Trojan or form of spyware, but given the years of conditioning by security firms “Virus” sounds a lot scarier.
Common Senseless Although these detection capabilities may be marginally useful to the end user, they do not by any stretch of the imagination fit the definition of an “antivirus” or replace common sense – that is to say, being cautious about which applications you download and then carefully reviewing the permissions for each application if you do install it.
Does that “Barney Wallpaper” app you download really need access to your contacts, call history and location?

Apparently the .snb files for S-Note are simply .zip files with a different extension. It contains a number of xml descriptor files and also the jpg thumbnails of the S-Note which at least allows immediate recognition. Very instructive video.
Other Allshare Cast Dongle There is little information on the AllshareCast dongle, so this will be information from various parts of the web, XDA S3 thread about AllshareCast

I have a thing for statistics, so I've made this table for my own viewing pleasure. Others may also find it useful, educational or entertaining.
Legend: Version is self explanatory. Started is the Start date of the thread, and Ended is the day the thread was closed. All formats are YYYY-MM-DD. Total Days counts the total number of days between the start and end days of a thread. Total Posts is self explanatory. Total Views is an incremental number tracked by LYN whenever someone views a thread, so even though the thread is closed, if someone views it, the number will still increment. Hence the Statistic Last Retrieved column shows when the Total Views number was logged.

ow I see. btw, trying out bluestacks just for fun, turns out its based on android 2.3, good effort, but I guess I will uninstall it for now lol. Everything is pixelated on my monitor, and that humongous orange bar and thick loading circle is not something which I actually wanted to see again XD

hi congrats on new thread, since bobcatrom is so highly rated, anyone here have experience with it? any feedback regarding bobcat?
I don't know, but as I said, there was some dude who replied in Google+ to my post saying it was the best thing ever, and he was a user of BobCat on other Samsung devices as well. The BobCatROM chef is not a native English speaker from his postings, probably an Italian since he is cooperating with soloilmeglo.
It does look quite snazzy from all the included theming options. I guess I will give it a try sometime since I'm curious too.

Firstly welcome to the forum. I don't believe you're in the Owners' List. Do add yourself via the form in post 4.
My famous question when people make such posts: Were you using a proper casing (ie one that COMPLETELY encloses the phone) ? I suppose it slipped off your thighs and fell on tarmac?
Screen replacement is RM700.
QUOTE(arslow @ May 10 2013, 12:27 AM)
its emulated, no? but yeah, since Intel has x86 version of android 4.1 and 4.2, wonder what's taking this guys so long?
Don't think it's emulated. It's compiled on x86 and runs natively. Full blown OS on some selected Atom netbooks. Of course you could run a prebuilt VirtualBox image as well, but it is still native x86.

btw how many of you do actually use pop out browser ? I don't think I got use more than 10 times LOL and also forget how to enable it already, can teach me ?
Think it's best to do a full wipe to go the bobcat route... Guys if I'm wiping my internal storage it's best to back up the android folder right? That's where all the apps settings is saved right ? I've backed up all my apps through titanium btw

looking at the CPU usage, yes I guess its really native. The scrolling speed is just off, one "click" makes it go to the bottom of my facebook feed
still a lot of work to do I guess. Maybe I should just try out the intel version someday. might be less user friendly bu t should run much better imo.btw, did you read about merrifield on Anandtech? Seems to be pretty awesome. As long as they get some huge design wins, we might see Intel slowly dominating the mobile world just like the desktop world. It will take some time, but its certainly possible
joytest, your topic description left the word "3" 2nd Gen of the original "Phablet" XXDMC3
Thanks. Changed.

Most apps, probably not ALL apps. Well if you have titanium backup for all apps+data you should be fine.

thanks, cause recently after changing so many roms, started to get some wakelocks eventhough i did full wipe with internal storage intact, i guess its time to wipe everything anew and try a fresh installation. I never seems to get 7-8 sot like some reported by users.
RM1088 for a screen replacement !!!!!! AND NO DIGITIZER ?????? Thank Samsung.
Also, Does this mean that Verizon has a changelog?
http://androidheadlines.com/2013/05/androi...th-edition.html Verizon have updated their Galaxy Note II, bringing the software up to build version I605VRAMC3. The big thing here is that the device now has much better support for multi-view, a lot more apps are now supported by the feature and there are tweaks and fixes galore. So much so that there is another part to the changelog below. All in all, the update comes in at 264 MB in size. To get info on how to update your Galaxy Note II on Verizon, head over to here. => http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/sys...nstructions.pdf

Have used it probably once or twice just to see what it looks like. You have to remove the default from your default browser to get the selection to use pop-up browser when you click on a link.

there are a few caveats nonetheless: 1. the TS' downloadable version is somehow laggy (maybe the lag that he integrated) 2. following his instructions, it works on and off and not really right each time. unless you : phone ring -> no movement near sensor -> swipe to answer (in this motion slowly) i don't expect you to encounter any further problems.
cool, new thread already. want to ask(and not sure if this is allowed), the adfree that i had from some other roms, is there any way for me to get it on wanamlite?

Thanks joytest/antt00. Im going to try Perseus kernel.. and see how it performs. And I know why certain games cannot work such as IronMan3 n Asphalt 7.. it was because I enabled Force 2D GPU rendering. and it fxxkup most of the 3D games
Err..can wave our note 2 to get 20% discount at starbuck and link our CC to get 5% more? how to?
Yes. Stand in front of the starbucks worker and when he ask you to pay keep waving your note 2. He will eventually think you are having some kind of breakdown and might even give you the drink for free.
i'm using CWM recovery, i wanna try monx rom, so i need to change my recovery then?
Best to use TWRP for Monx. Monx ROM comes with Aroma installer, so safest to use TWRP. Last time I used CWM while installing a rom with Aroma, it got stuck halfway

huh what do you mean by 'added'? and what do you mean in the second statement? i feel very confused-desu.
Added you to post 9.
2nd statement should have been "ism" instead of "olism". An "ism" is some habit or practice, sometimes viewed positively, sometimes negatively, depending on the originating noun/verb.
So you have Buddhism, Animism, Alcoholism, Flashoholism etc

ohh, naruhoto-ga. thanks for the add, but actually i'm having a really bad headache now. trying to do so many things at once, flash different roms, making custom boot animation out of .mkv videos, playing with various launchers and widgets, and still in the midst of learning and writing java codes for android.
The only reason to go for the S4 is the screen, finally, no more pixel to be sen on the homescreen and default system apps.
Just need to hold out for another 5-6 months!!! ><
I actually already have a buyer for this phone by the time note 3 launches, RM 1xxx, hopefully he would be still interested on the phone by then
This time I'll hold out for a telco contract since the company can pay for the bills I really love Note 2 more than the Note 1, but Note 1 was the device that created the entire Phablet category and the Note family is still the best of it all.
come swap with my SME grey unit then u will have many many support i top up RM100

Actually nothing much involved. Tried it yesterday backup in less than a min including typing those long lines.
The EFS compressed zip should be around 8mb ?? I saw the ext.win file from the TWRP backup was only 64kb. What's the correct size, as the old EFS Backup Tool on page 1 creates a 20mb file.

The doctor method gave me 20mb. TWRP is 5+mb but different compression method i think. Just do as many backup as you can.
I need a custom Roms + kernel recommendations. Which fair will give a good battery life?
me using wanamlite and adam kernel that came with it, and the battery life is by far better than the others i tried, though only by a little. and i am thinking of going perseus soon.
did a fresh install for bobcatrom, initial impression was i hate the themeing and all, makes my eyes blur, but i do like the speed tweak especially on the network side of things, maybe placebo effect but i felt that the loading of webpage on 3g is faster. tonnes of mods in this rom, and suddenly updateme app from the cook start fc-ing on me. So dont think this rom is a keeper, hunting for my next rom to flash. And so far wanamlite gave me the best battery life, but the best of both worlds has got to be our own msia cooked Monx rom.
joytest why do people say "at long last"? Is there a "at short first"?
OT but a lot of this stuff is from the early development of the language. I suppose if you got something instantly, you have nothing to complain and therefore there will be no idiom to describe the non-existent problem.
I believe the phrase "at long last" has a very near equivalent in German IIRC, since English is from the Germanic branch of the Indo-European family. Note that English is related to Hindi ok.
Now we have "OMG finally" or some other internet abbreviation I guess.

Good, do add an entry in the survey, since I find it strange that a lot of the BobCatROM users tend to rate it above 40 points.
i think the high rating in the rom review is kinda fake, maybe they do magic like someone ahem~! u noe who...
So you see, in v1 of the survey, it simply counted number of entries. In v2, the inclusion of specific feature ranking can actually indicate whether submitters are honest or not
I will have to think about how to weight some rankings. I do have such training but rusty......

at first think want to change to galaxy s4..but give out still prefer Note 2 size..
According to reports of a few users, there is no significant difference. Is it worthwhile will depend on where you spend most of your time, since LTE locations are still limited.

Get If you live and work within those LTE area If you are download freak If you stream video alot If you have unlimited data plan And if you dont mind to pay a few more hundreds just for LTE.
Battery life is almost same and LTE doesnt drain the battery faster than 3G. The reason I upgrade from 7100 to 7105 is LTE and battery life. None device in the market has comparable battery to note 2. Can play with this device until the launch of Note 3

now new phone minimum should atlest equip with 32gb 16gb is just too small now. / do you hug i pad? its dangerous with the "apple "
For the capacity, it's probably an issue of $$$profit. 16Gb was in vogue from 2010 already. Yes, 3 years later we should have Moore's law kick in TWICE already (ie 64Gb !!!!) !!!!

... For me, the Galaxy Note 2 scratches a special itch. When I leave my computer, I feel guilty. I think, “Oh, I won’t be able to get any work done.” But then I let my fingers grace over my left pocket and I feel that good old familiar strong, rectangular shape, and I am comforted that I have a device that works as hard as I do, and one that can take a licking, too. It remains as the only device that I’ve been able to drop, both in the video below, and in my actual life that has been able to sustain the savage abuse I subject my devices to. Sorry folks, I can’t help it. .....

It's called Regression Testing. You won't believe how boring and repetitive and painful this can get. If it doesn't pass all the test cases, the proper decision is "Don't release it". Well, whether people make proper decisions or not
Guys, I'm on Monx since yesterday, doesn't seems anything special with it apart from a few tweaks option and the default brightness even at low seems brighter than stock. Speed wise is better than stock IMO although sometimes when playing game like candy crush the screen a bit unresponsive.
In your opinion, which is a good stock looking ROM? wanam? monx?

Guys, I'm on Monx since yesterday, doesn't seems anything special with it apart from a few tweaks option and the default brightness even at low seems brighter than stock. Speed wise is better than stock IMO although sometimes when playing game like candy crush the screen a bit unresponsive.
In your opinion, which is a good stock looking ROM? wanam? monx?

Good stocking looking roms are theme-less . Roms like ARHD , Wanam comes stock looking

Monx rom is pretty basic actually. Just some themes to make it nicer. Wanam is a stock looking rom, a few users says it helps to conserve battery.. should probably give it a try?
hey guys.. wanna ask, is there any current custom rom has the most feature of s4? nt the theme bt I'm amazed with the camera and the gesture features...
Btw you didn't answer whether your phone was naked or not. Stocking? What have you been doing with your keyboard dictionary?

Not 100% on reading tho..there're some browsin..updating and downloading involved. I think if i disable the data and use it purely for reading..it might get around 12hrs SOT..bwahaha

Use GPS for 1 hour today Papago (cos waze fail me for the first time sending me to some unknown factory place. ) and then 1 hour of using camera with today's stupid hot weather means my screen is on full brightness.
And at the end of the day still can get 4.5 hours of SOT. Damn cun our batt. Oh and also wifi tethering in between somemore.

a really dependable and reliable phone when shit happens
has never disappointed me till the last drop of batt so far
with a 1080p screen in tow, I wonder if the note 3 needs to have at least a 4000mah batt to have almost the same, if not better SOT?

I would simply speculate that due to the larger device size, they should be able to cram in a 3500mAh battery at least. Probably the top end would be 3800mAh. That should give us enough for the same levels of SOT.
So now perhaps the S series is the beta testbed for the Note series ? Note is the REAL flagship ?

Posted on Google+ What's going on with Google bloatware recently? On my devices I have several Google Apps in quarantine (disabled) that I don't really use, e.g. Google Earth or Google Play Movies. Magically those apps got updated automatically and are active again. To explain this further....
There's a feature in App Quarantine that notifies the user when an app is no longer in disabled (usually after an update). This was a feature needed during the 2.x days when apps were updated even when they were disabled. So I could automatically (or interactively) put them back in quarantine. But since 3.x/4.0 Android finally respects disabled apps, e.g. doesn't update them when they were disabled, so this feature is no longer needed.
Now few days ago on my Nexus 7 I was really surprised when the App Quarantine notification suddenly showed up and notified me that Google Play Movies is no longer disabled, and today the same happened with Google Earth.
I know the Google Play Store updates itself automatically in the background, and probably also the Google Play Services framework, but I did never see any Google apps updating themselves.
Anyone else seen such behavior? What's happening here? I had plans to remove said feature in a future version of my app, but now I guess I have to think twice before doing so! This is still a behavior that should be controlled by my app... oh I mean by its users

Release when you reach the flashing slanted spiral logo.
See whether both options work. If not you have SDS. When did you buy your phone?
yea try before not working at all even tried with usb jig from s2 also nothing happen device is unrooted gonna try for warranty how long does it take normally for the warranty process?

Which ROM version would have a higher propensity to trigger SDS?
Old ones especially 4.1.1 and early 4.1.2.

yeah, theres some "magic" samsung has done with the note 2 which is giving us such great SOT. My SOT now 4.5 hours with 45% batt life left. Only wifi though and up time is 9 hours plus only. Cant really say its because of the sensorhub
whatever it is, hope it remains the same or gets better with the note 3 (the screen on the s4 actually uses 20% less power than the s3)

The robbery was one of 10 serious crimes in the city that day, and they all involved cellphones. Three were stolen at gun point, three at knife point and four through brute force. .........
I wonder how did you guys manage to get such good SOT. My own record can never surpass 6H SOT but with 1D2H battery life. To me, that considered very good.

Yeah, been very very busy and was also because of GE13. I spent more time in that section as a silent reader. I actually come to this thread every day but no urge to post, unlike last time.
OK, will look into your survey. I'm lazy to backup my stuff again... So no more flashing until 4.2.2 is released.
want to try romow and assassin resurrection, but which one first? hmm... or maybe try latest monxdified, but wanamlite just updated too. oh nozzz what a dilemma.

thats fast. in contrast Monx's rom seems to be a neverending wait. really given up on it and going for Romow seems like a better idea.
Poor monx is trying to upload his ROM, and although it is ready he can't upload till Monday 13/5. I think he is in Setapak/Wangsa Maju area. Maybe someone buddy with him can copy on a flash drive and upload somewhere else hehe.

It's worse with GNote 2. Screen too big for single hand operation
Klang, there's this forumer called Alieamin who is recommended by a number of users here in LYN. You may want to check his posts/threads.
I saw your post in the S4 thread. So are you looking for an S4 or Note 2?
Oh thanks. Hm, well, I am actually looking for both devices' price then make a compare between them. Note 2 is my top priority but S4 might be a better choice since it's a newer release.

You should be able to get an SME Note 2 at approx 1700. Can't argue with S4 being newer but read the last few pages of S4 thread and you will see some software bugs.
And once you are on the Note 2, you cannot go back to a smaller screen device.
just submit the survey my adam is 2.4 while the survey only until 2.2?
Ok bro the Kernel survey has not been updated enough. Focus was on the ROM survey which is more complex. I;m integrating the kernel survey to the ROM survey next but it's going to be pretty major.
boo hoo hoo what's wrong with my Note 2? Suddenly today the screen would just go black. its one for 1 sec or less then black, i hv to hit home key on again. same thing. restarted, pulled battery out try pulling s-pen in and out. yikes what's wrong??

Thanks bro. There is no "good" or "bad" in a submission. It's just what you think and rate a ROM. Then the scores get aggregated across all submissions and you will be able to see on average what people really think.
I mean if a ROM consistently gets a low score then something's probably not right somewhere. I'm trying to figure out a way to weight or limit some scores since some tend to just max out the scores.

I always disable auto update. I update one by one manually and usually after a few weeks of the update arriving.
So I think you should reset your phone and slowly restore your stuff and turn off auto update in the play store. It's likely caused by an app update that is not compatible with your ROM.
What ROM are you on anyway?
You are also not in the LYN Owners' List. Do please add yourself via the form in post 4. If you wish, do also submit an entry for the Grand ROM Survey via the link in my sig.

I'm only thinking that since the UI is optimized for fixed-pixel count display, I don't think they will be able to do resizable widgets, and I wonder how will they handle redraw of live widgets like floating clouds etc since this will invoke the GPU, therefore battery life will be even worse.

Pretty decent actually. I dropped my phone from jeans pocket height on a wooden floor without casing, no dents on the phone nor cracks on the screen.
This is my 1st time to root my note 2. However, I have problem in very 1st step. My ID:COM didn't turn to blue after connecting my device to PC usb. Already install Samsung USB driver. On normal mode, the same PC can detect phone as I can access the phone storage from MyComputer.
Emulator? Any kind of emulation is going to suck somewhat. It is running JIT code, so the parser has to be very efficient. If not, then...
If it says it can work on the following:

I'm quite sure the others are going to lag even worse. Only the Nexus 10 in this list, and maybe Nexus 4, has a more powerful GPU.

That is probably true but still, you can't expect an emulator to run at native speeds. And IINM, Mali documentation was not sufficient to build a full performance driver so emulation WILL suck.
Sorry. This is my 1st time root android. I just flash TWRP recovery in Mobile Odin. Now I know TWRP is an apps to for recovery purpose.
The reason I mention that I want to back up my device because I'm following step 2 which is backup my EFS folder. I didn't know I can do this in TWRP.
So after backup my device with TWRP, can I say my rooting is complete?
In a way yes. But make sure you keep at least 2 copies of your EFS backup, one on the phone and one on the PC. And you should keep one in some cloud service. Your other backup (system, data) can be stored anywhere else you wish.
Good backup practice should be weekly for most things, which can be automated via Titanium.

Rooting is done when you flash chainfire root file. Recovery only for slightly advanced users who want to do backup/restore rom n flash custom rom, kernel or modem

Yes i did test it on my s3 before but it not only lags, but force closes as well. Instant uninstall without even trying to find out the reason of failure.
Thanks joytest. Such a huge file. Around 3.5GB in my phone (ticked all option in TWRP backup). So for better backup, I should get Titanium & Nandroid is it? Since they provide online/cloud backup.

Not necesarily. Nandroid is done via the recovery. So what you have is a "nandroid" in TWRP format. A nandroid is everything on your phone, and is an insurance policy in case you screw up flashing a new ROM.
Titanium backs up your app+data and lets you make selective restore or full restore after a new ROM.

Ok. Will try out custom ROM once I have confident and installed Titanium in my phone.

Nandroid is a Must incase your phone fail to boot up. Than you boot to recovery n restore Titanium Only works in a working phone. It only restore 90+% of your apps n Some stuffs eg sms, call logs etc you need another app to back up it

Tb also backups sms and call logs. I would say its 100% backup of the phone. Tb have an advantage in u can schedule it to run daily so the backup is up to date. Your nandroid may be weeks or months old if u dun do it often hence tb is top choice for me. I went for months without a nandroid n never felt insecure at all.

Is it twrp unable to backup the efs for n7105 ah? Read around xda only one way to backup. The efs file is exceptionally small not over 100kb . I remember it should be around 10mb

Perhaps the data is highly compressible? I also recall the backup with the EFS tool was about 8mb.
Can I ask any Celcom user who have a problem with Cannot Registered to the Network, and the solution is to restart phone..Celcom coverage problem or my sim?
Last time I check on the thread, it was way back in v10-ish. Gotta say I love you guys for keeping this ongoing discussions alive with all sorts of tips/tricks/notes/guides/tutorial and so much more. The raw data in the first page is soo overwhelming, so thank you to everyone

joytest Jr!! lol, just had to say that due to your avatar pic
yup, very lively thread, especially when alex starts something lol
Checked the first page but couldn't find a statement saying if the new bootloader is possible to be rooted directly via PC Odin. I know in the past, the bootloader needed to be downgraded . Not too sure after so long if there is already a possibility to root directly with the latest bootloader.

Can, use CF Root method ( use Odin in PC ) but no Recovery. After root use Mobile odin to flash TWRP

Welcome back Brother Marine The Emperor Protects! We have purged the Unclean! Brought Law unto Chaos !
My mum and my step father use note 2 and said my nexus 4 screen was 'small' and small words even though its on pie control mode LOL
Anything smaller than the Note2 screen is now puny.

Ohh.. that means now new bootloader can liau. no need to downgrade anymore. That's great news.
Saw some comments saying that TWRP is much better than CWM. After 5 months, suddenly I feel like coming back to the old habit of ROM flashing again
Everyone has been flashing left, right and center. No reports of issues with the new bootloader so far.
Unlike what I was just reading about the Verizon Note2 bootloader which is a cat and mouse game between the xda devs and the OTA updates that re-lock it.
Do look forward to seeing your entries in the survey:)

I'm out of this forum for far too long. I remember when I first got the Note2, if you had accidentally updated the ROM (official), the new bootloader would be loaded. It is needed to downgrade before it is possible to root or something like that. Remember seeing some pictures showing the old and new bootloader on the boot-up screen.
Too much hassle therefore decided not to root. The other reason was the official ROM itself was already very good

I don't really own note 2,just my parents own,I like the battery life, but for size I think for myself nexus 4 size can fit 1 hand operation and type with one hand,I can't do that with note 2,if you said iPhone 5,I would say its too small for me

Err..here in Note2..I think only him rooting this way. But a few have done it on S3. The apk can root up to 4.1.2 firmware(at this moment) for various Samsung phones and tablets.

Yeah man when I got the Note1 it felt a little awkward the first few days. No regrets after that. Best thing for browsing.
Can't , she balik but didn't use the phone since that's her working line . Barely 20 mins SOT daily so no point comparing . Working days when she uses both phones together would be a fair comparison . They do alexng2208 This is the design I told u that day and it comes with different colors

Framaroot is super fast root and unroot, within a second
A bit larger screen I don't mind if Samsung can maintain the phone overall size. Sort like S4..larger screen but smaller overall size than S3
Probably increase in height, hopefully not width. If increase in width, one handed operation is almost impossible, at least now still can operate with one hand
btw, I flash my rom to WANAMLite for Note 2 N7015, my score drop to 15k at antutu, from 17k using CleanRom,lol

noobi3 recommended TWRP EFS backup, coz the one in that link by as i9000 had some problems with some earlier versions of the script.
Anyway,
***HELP PLEASE***
wesamothman from Assassin ROM reported a problem with the Survey Form. No responses were accepted. Can some of you just pop in a few TEST entries and report if it populates? I will logout and probably reboot my PC to check.
stupid question, how do I boot to TWRP? Vol Up + Home + ON brings me to 3e Recovery
2 possibilities . Firstly , it means u didnt manage to flash in TWRP .... If u did , it wouldnt be 3d recovery . 2ndly , try not 2 let your hp bootup after u flash TWRP , boot it back to TWRP or stock recovery will normally replace it again after u reboot without entering TWRP first . What i normally do is I pull out the battery once I c the Samsung n7100 logo , wait 5 sec , put the battery back in and use the 3 button combo like u mentioned to boot into recovery . This only happen once , right after u flash . After that , it will be TWRP every time u reboot into recovery .

Got it.. Didn't remove the battery though. Just force it reboot to recovery again after finishing the TWRP installation.
Performing TWRP backup now. 3GB+

btw, is it possible for the TWRP to recognize external SD card? I did the backup and it is stored in the internal memory. Would like to move the entire TWRP folder to the SD card

not sure what happened then. I downloaded the 2.5.0.1 zip file and flash via MOP directly using the "Open File"..
p/s: not flashing CWM, am flashing TWRP
I know you were flashing TWRP. I meant that MOP does (did??) not recognize the flashable zips (usually referred to as CWM zip) but it will still flash them anyway, probably with unpredictable results.
It could be that current versions can actually flash CWM zips properly?

Not sure. I managed to flash. Not too sure what happens. Will try to reboot to TWRP recovery again to see if it works.
Update: Rebooting to TWRP recovery works. No issue

BobcatROM so highly rated. Would be my first Custom ROM then..
Thanks bro. But note that as of about 8pm last night, the survey form for some strange reason stopped passing entries to the response sheet. Won't affect your flashing activities anyway.
I've got to spend a bit of time trying to fix or re-do the survey form.

I firstly beg to differ on @joytest's statement about anything smaller than Note 2 is puny but then again it is just one's opinion. Your statement therefore I shall take with a pinch of salt as again, it is merely your opinion. No excuse is needed as by and large the consumer public does find it a wee bit big. However, it is a very good phone nonetheless.

5 inch phones are considered as 'standard' already, an additional of 0.5 inch doesnt hurt. In fact, if one is used to a big phone, it is quite natural to see them having tough time to go back to smaller screens. So if a person is used to having a 4 inch screen, definitely they will have different view as well.
Then again, by calling the phone big and more suitable for the females, that is utter nonsense dont you think? One man's meat is another man's poison. So basically if someone is using that as a reason to the phone's size, that is an excuse.

Lets see Apple maintain the 4" this year. This should drag the iphone to its grave a step closer.

You didn't see the option in the menu backup to external Sdcard?
The MOP zip is not your CWM zip !!!! MOP zip is only the special type called "Update.zip". Otherwise you need the TAR or TAR.MD5 I think.
I could be wrong but I screwed myself before by flashing a zip ROM via MOP
MOP zip and CWM zip are the SAME. In MOP you must select flash update (or something like that dunno the exact words ) But never tried flashing something big like a rom la especially if got aroma, better use recovery. If small files like kernel, recovery, mod should be fine.

You probably carry in your hand all day or your pocket is very big
Enough lar..if Note2 feels too big for you then don't use it. No need to poke or make fun on others just because they doesn't feel the same way as you..
The jeans wearing generation will probably find note2.too big as they cannot fit it comfortably in the pockets of their jeans And such people rarely wear shirts with pockets too Those who always wear slacks or shirts with pockets will have no problem with it

yesterday i went to buy a samsung led tv, the sales person told that i can set my note2 as a remote control to control the tv.which is call all-share if not mistaken, but weird thing is when i turn on the all-share button in the setting,it fails to connect, while they use their own note2 demo,it connected.
then i told them that my note2 has rooted, then they assume is coz of rooted so unable to connect.

Rooted is fine. But if your device status is modified then no it cannot use all-share. joytest correct me if i am wrong.

just yesterday I wore a Topman's slim fit slacks..and having a thick lower body part..that being said..its more less tight in those area..I must confess it doesn't feel weird sliding my note2 inside my front right pocket..even when sitting down..just as long as the casing doesn't add to it's bulk..I do not see any problems..although it would be a hassle for those whose wearing super skinny jeans..then again..those days has passed..outta fashion already..lolz

alexng2208 strikes again with the textured durex monster in his pants. He needs to embiggen it with the ZeroLemon 9300mAh.
that battery pack is blasphemy lar.. ugly + ugly doesn't make it better though it has awesome battery life. i'd rather carry around Lepow's awesome looking 11,000 or was it 12,000 battery back called U Stone or something... that's what i call awesome design

done and thanks! of course possible remember to enable his mDNIe settings via Stweaks (auto installed when u flash the Kernel)
great.. alot of "alienated" abbreviations that I do not understand now mDNIe, Stweaks I guess it's all tweaks Think should try Perseus35 instead since 36.3 has experimental ABB feature.

anyways mDNIe is the graphics calibration of the screen by perseus, best tweak in the world. enable that under "screen". i find ticking Register Hook + Master Sequence is the best without any further ticks.

Well, had you been specific and referred to what you just alluded to, I would have replied you in a different manner. However, you were, not to be pedantic, but subject directed, replying to someone stating an opinion by saying that excuses were given, in general terms. In any event, I reiterate, to each his own, which I am glad you agree with as well.
Guys, can anyone mind to share what custom ROM is good for beginners? I'm not saying what is the best custom ROM but I'm new and there are just to many to choose from. If anyone would mind to share a few that is common would be great.
