Having trouble updating to Windows 8.1?
QUOTE(soultaker @ Nov 2 2013, 05:10 PM)
Why can't I find the update in the Store?

If your PC is currently running Windows 8 (or Windows RT) and you want to update to Windows 8.1 (or Windows RT 8.1) in most cases you’ll see this free update prominently featured on the Windows Store home page. If you’ve opened the Store and you don’t see the update, it could be for one of these reasons:

You might need the latest updates from Windows Update
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

You might be running an edition of Windows 8 that doesn’t support updating from the Store
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Windows Store might not be showing the latest content

Type cover is pretty good, touch cover is infuriating to use. Even after 5 months of trying it here in the US, it's just not for me, Touch typist might fare better.

On the other hand, the Surface and Surface Pro are pretty handsome hardware.

Touch cover is abit of a gimmick, it just little bit slimmer and lighter than type cover. Love the feeling of type cover laugh.gif

No doubt it is one of the best tablet, on par with iPad build quality nod.gif

The Surface Pro is pretty excellent. Though I may change my mind once I get a hands-on with the Razer Edge.

Razer Edge is another story though, it have discrete graphic and core i7 configuration. Imagine the heat build up in that small casing shocking.gif

you cant expect hybrids to be attractive. if you dont want RT, then you have to wait for the release of Surface Pro, which uses x86 x64 processor like core i5. icon_rolleyes.gif

It has integrated graphics alongside, so the NVIDIA wouldn't be used all the time.

Thats true. I expect next gen will use snapdragon 800 or tegra 4. Both of the processor capable to run hi res screen as well as low power.

this RT comes out too freakin late (for msia)

tegra 3 is so early 2012 stuff. performance will not be satisfactory.
and Pro is STILL not available.

I guess i will wait for Surface pro 2 next year. Love the vaporMg, love the kickstand. I expect it to be Thinner, generates less heat, and have better battery efficiency (>5 hours of Heavy use would be amazing).
For now i'm not really complaining using Aspire S7 smile.gif

Thanks guys. biggrin.gif
BTW I'm going to MidValley for PC fair this Friday. Will check Harvey Norman and Thundermatch there. If there is some technical issue, will go to Sunway Pyramid then.

yeah its subjective, Surface Pro did what 'normal' laptop do but in a smaller form factor. Yet still have that 1080p screen drool.gif I think it can handle light Photoshop. Another alternative is Vaio Duo 11, they have i7 model

After what seemed like an eternity, i got my hands on this baby last night @ Challenger

SCREEN
10.6 inch screen isnt too small. If you can tolerate 11 inch, then probably this shdnt be too much of a problem. Display tech is visibly superior to the usual TN panels.

PERFORMANCE
Performance is snappy enough. The slowdowns are mainly caused by the notorious windows 8 app loading times. Switching between apps is just as fast as a full-fledged intel processor, tho i cant guarantee the same when u have music playing in desktop.

BUILD QUALITY
I can verify that all the reviews about how nice the built quality is are justified. The magnesium body is nice to touch and brush against. The dark greyish color of the body sports a professional, modern look. The curves and edges are deliberately designed, and the body is sturdy.

KEYBOARDS
I started with the Type cover - it's springy enough - which is easy to get use to. They're quite compact, so some people might find it unsuitable for their use. For me, i definitely had an easy time using it.

Touch cover on the other hand, isnt as intuitive and familiar. It feels weirder than an on screen keyboard or those rubbery foldable keyboards - the keys dont travel at all like an onscreen keyboard, but at the same time u need to apply pressure to the keys for the presses to register, and it seems the pressure areas are pretty small at the very center of each letter.
If you want to buy this, do TRY it first! you dont want to throw away RM 350++ for this weird and flat keyboard that only works exclusively with the surface.

Just as advertised, they 'click in' when placed near the bottom of the surface with great accuracy. Kudos for that. wink.gif

Hope u guys like this mini hands-on blush.gif

I agree the build quality part. Probably same or better than iPad. I would rather spend more for type cover than touch cover. Touch cover is totally not "type-able" for me shakehead.gif

I'm forced to buy touch cover as Harvey Norman I visited does not sell any other accessories. I tried it and feels that it is still acceptable for me.
Today is day 3 for my touch cover, and I'm satisfied with it. I took some time to get myself used to it, and it do works.
I'm not a heavy typewriter, but touch cover is good for me currently.

Compared to iPad, surface RT is better in practicality for me, though it's expensive.

Sometimes I think, if I need a mechanical keyboard, I'll get a desktop keyboard and do typing indoor (or outdoor if it's convenient enough).
BTW, love both the tablet and touch cover very much.

Err... I'm thinking if screen protector is required, as nearly no shop selling screen protector for RT. sad.gif

the 64GB of Ipad with Retina costs RM2000, while the 64GB of surface costs RM1850 + RM409 type cover. still the surface RT is better overall.

I think it's the matter of the pixel density when I found that the words are not so clear in PDF files though still readable.
Anyway I'm very satisfy with surface RT. used it to watch videos, browse and Skype, and some games like Tetris.
Currently I still do not require x86/x64 programmes, so yeah it fulfill my needs, but quite sad as can't play heavy games like those from Steam.

no choice since you are using an ARM device.
exception if you use Surface Pro. i watched video that Surface Pro can handle far cry 3 at low settings.

I think it's the matter of the pixel density when I found that the words are not so clear in PDF files though still readable.
Anyway I'm very satisfy with surface RT. used it to watch videos, browse and Skype, and some games like Tetris.
Currently I still do not require x86/x64 programmes, so yeah it fulfill my needs, but quite sad as can't play heavy games like those from Steam.

surface RT doesnt lags when switch between application. however, no visual effects are shown when switching between desktop to metro apps if you are doing it too fast (appears as a flash).

far cry 3 on surface pro

I'm sure that gaming on Surface Pro will not fulfill my experience. Maybe during school holidays I'll go to stick to my desktop or in the future, get a laptop for both education and gaming. I like Surface RT in terms of both portability and functionality that cannot be found on iPads and Android tablets. biggrin.gif

Depends on the process that the applications are undergoing.
For example, if you make video call with Skype, switch to other apps and switch back to Skype, there will be some lags, 0.3 - 0.5s of lag.
Most default applications perform well. I'm pretty sure that most of the apps still need optimization though.
Overall, it's damn fluid. (Let's don't make comparison with other OS here. I'm quite sick with it. tongue.gif)

yeah, we know that. comparing an ARM device with a x86 is just like comparing a proton saga with perdana v6.

however, like you said, gaming on surface pro doesnt makes sense. it is just for portability, but you will get less apps support on the RT.

Surface pro, with the Intel HD 4000, can play LOTS of old games.
All those point and click adventure games will be good candidates biggrin.gif

Recently, I installed Oblivion on my wife Thinkpad E430 (HD 4000) and it run and totally playable laugh.gif

HD 4000 struggle with Skyrim tongue.gif I has to turned off lots of details to get it to run at playable rate at 1366x768 (i5 M).
Oblivion, on the other hand, I could set it to high preset, then turn down 1 or 2 individual settings, and it is good to go.
But HD 4000 scale with different Ivy Bridge CPU, so we may get different mileage out of ULV. But in general, I think most games from 2007 or before is ok. So user just need to think if a game is playable solely on touch screen input only tongue.gif

There's a youtube channel named 'surface pro gaming'. They showcase many games played on surface pro from time to time.

very impressive, average gamers shd be satisfied (mid/ low settings).
The Newer graphics on Haswell should be even more capable.

I think the price is fair, consider that how much for base ultrabook and Macbook Air.

Go back home, plug to monitor. Become desktop thumbup.gif

I predict Haswell Surface Pro will announce around July or August

Maybe 40% increase speed + more energy efficient? And probably have 256gb option. Yeah i know, if you wanna buy you might as well buy the latest one right? I have a feeling its around the corner. If Surface Pro launch earlier then it's different story la.

Just my 2 cents tongue.gif

Update on 4/6/2013 at 10.30am: And we have a price! Our sources have just leaked us an update on the Surface Pro release this Friday, revealing that the 64GB and 128GB variations of the Surface Pro will retail at an estimated RM2,749 and RM3,049 respectively. That's a RM600 difference between the 64GB Surface Pro and the 64GB Surface RT bundle, which comes with a black Touch Cover.

Unlike the Surface RT, we understand that the Surface Pro will not be released in a bundle, so users who want a Touch/Type Cover will have to purchase those separately. With the Touch Cover retailing at RM379 and the Type Cover at RM409, it's safe to say that users planning on getting a Pro will be looking at prices from RM3,128 onwards (Surface Pro 64GB + Touch Cover).

Hi all,

i just purchased surface pro in Singapore.
Sharing my input
1)it supports java and flash like a charm, viola, intranet etc will works.
2) Yes, it is a hot machine. i didnt even open a lot of apps. Maybe due to charging mode?
3) It is a powerful machine and the keyboard sticks perfectly, turn over the machine and holding the keyboard only, the tablet wont drop! good magnet there.
4) the HD screen is crispy eye candy.

important : My unit is faulty! After checking the internet it seems it is a common problem although not many.

problem : When charging, i will fell electric shock from the back. This is important considering this machine is short on battery life and constant charging while using will be common. I will be bringing my unit back to challenger for exchange.

cheers

ps: when you buy, u probably should try charging it and run your hand behind the surface, if you feeling electric current vibrating, change it.

I too have the "shock" feeling when touching the Mg part of the Pro. I guess this is defect by design. I heard a Sony fella told me one of Sony's lappie that uses metal back also has this "issue". I guess this is normal then sad.gif

With your wrist? I didn't feel a thing with my finger, but wrist will cause a shock (not a major shock, a minor static like shock) on my machine. (Thundermatch actually tried another device since I went back and ask for a 1-1, and the results are the same @_@)

It's not too big of a deal, it's not like the SP can be used plugged in, just minor annoyance.

The battery life is about 4 to 6 hours, depending on how you use it. Have not tried playing games on it though.

The first 2 to 3 hours I used it to install all my stuff into it. Left with 50%, some light usage like browsing and Facebook for 2 hours took another 30 to 35% off the battery.

With 720p movie, it drains 30% an hour with maximum volume and 60% brightness.

RT = Tablet
Pro = Tablet PC

To be honest both of them not really comparable as RT is mobile platform while Pro can run all the program a desktop/laptop can run. Its a very small device to carry around which can perform whatever hard task you want it to, albeit the shorter battery life 4-6 hours.

If I'm not mistaken, not many laptops in the market offer 1920x1080 screen yet and with Pro 10" 1080p screen it has one of the highest PPI out there.

Only 3 retailers are selling them.

Anyone has tried wiping the recovery partition and restore the partition using USB drive? I don't know if I'm able to "recover" the recovery partition by just using the USB drive. There is a "repartition" option in the recovery menu, but I sincerely doesn't know if that actually reverts the recovery partition or just the C:

Is this what you mean ?

Use a USB drive to format your PC instead of using disc.

Yes that... I knows it reinstalls Win8, but dunno if it actually reallocates the 8GB recovery partition or not. Struggling whether to remove the recovery partition or not...

I play with it in Samsung store, it's too flimsy for me. Nothing compare to Surface's magnesium build brows.gif

I wouldn't say its flimsy. It's not "the ultraportable" that I expected, keyboard is too heavy for my taste. But if treating it as an ultrabook that can be converted to tablet I think it is a good device.

Been using this baby for a while... so i will give my 2 cents again.

light portable PC to be carried around that works.

tying to use it as a tablet is not working well.... cause the heat is annoying and it is too heavy and all i did was reading manga on it.
- waiting for a rubber glove to body this surface pro, hopefully it solve the slippery edge and minimize the heat from the back, i am a sucker for belly reading.

Not suitable for gaming as the screen is too small but the processor and graphic makes powerpoint looks like a fluid TV. Still the idea of its power is awesome and i cant wait for a good app to fully utilize the HD4000.

I will love to watch Dota2 international tournament on this machine at work biggrin.gif and make the ipad user bleed envy.

really really need more apps and the pen is really under used cause lack of apps.

Could be better but still a good working gadget to have.

Unless you have a software that cant be handle by RT or your powerpoints stuttering during presentation, there shouldn't be a reason why you should get a heavier, hotter, pricier and thicker tablet.

for me, it runs intranet that require Java and light enough to be ported between office and home. Yes, it is a sexy thing to be put on your working station instead of a big ultrabook that's eating up half your table.

A short review on my SP.

Outlook/Build: 9/10
The Surface Pro looks amazing, and feels really solid with the VaporMG shell. The bad thing about using metal as the body is electric shock when charging. (Should be defect by design, tried 3 different brand new units having the same issue)

Tablet mode: 6/10
Too heavy to be held with one hand, made worse with Type Cover, which I consistently pressing the keyboard buttons with the cover folded back. It ignores any key pressed when folded back, but made me feels like I'm going to damage the keyboard (Touch Cover should fare a lot better since they don't have actual button).

Ultrabook mode: 9/10
Very portable, 1kg in total with Type cover is really impressive. Type Cover's build quality is very good. Didn't reduce my wpm compared to my mechanical keyboard. Kick stand is sturdy and stable, but angle is a little awkward, nothing too bad here.

Pen/Touch: 7/10
Touch is very good, near no lag, and adequately accurate. Pen is a little less accurate than Samsung Ativ Pro (I'm using this to do some art work in GIMP). After calibration it is much better, but still slightly off. Will get a new Wacom Pen to try out if it is caused by the Surface pen or the digitizer.
Needs Wacom's new driver however.

Battery: 6/10
4 hours run down on very light use, turning off Turbo (reduce the maximum processor state to 98%). I do only charge to 80% maximum to preserve battery lifespan. So the run down for 4 hours is 80% to 25%, which is not too bad. If you fully charge and run to 10%, it should hit 6 hours without a problem on light usage.

Very nice review, mind I put your review in first page? At first I wanted to buy Macbook Air to bring out as my RMBP 15 is too heavy, seems like Surface Pro can replace Macbook Air and iPad.

Do they have Youtube apps in Windows Store? Thats what I do mostly with my iPad laugh.gif I hate the browser youtube though

Thanks smile.gif Go ahead and put it up.

Yup, I was eyeing on MBA 11" last year, but decided to wait. SP is really nice. (but my Mac friends couldn't switch over to Win, just fyi since you're using MBP)

Lastly, no, there's no official youtube app in Windows Store. There is however 3rd party ones, but I don't trust my account information with tiny firms.

"Optimized for touch" only applicable for Metro. There're still some hiccups in desktop mode, although much less than Win7 imho.

I envy you blush.gif

hmm about the electric shock, i've also exprienced the same thing on my aluminum acer aspire s7. The first 2 weeks had this problem. I searched online, got many complaints regarding aluminum laptops with shocks (none related to my model, surprisingly). Then i figured it might be my faulty plug set. It leaks electricity sometimes, cant feel it on my older plastic laptop.

Changing to a new plug socket set seemed to have permanently solved the problem.

Remember that if you want to use Photoshop with the Surface, you need to install these drivers to allow for pressure sensitivity detection
http://www.wacom.com/shared/downloads/driv...ualtouch-driver

You should probably put this link on the 1st post Xirality.

i think type cover will be the most ideal one, even though it is expensive than touch cover. we will never let loose of our typing experience by spending less for a cover.

typing on a touch cover doesnt give positive feedbacks.

Remember that if you want to use Photoshop with the Surface, you need to install these drivers to allow for pressure sensitivity detection
http://www.wacom.com/shared/downloads/driv...ualtouch-driver

You should probably put this link on the 1st post Xirality.
*
Without installing this there is no pressure sensitivity detection for Photoshop? Or does it affect all applications like OneNote and PDFs?

Have you visit Harvey Norman Norman and Thundermatch around KL?
I do feel like they cleared the stock of Surface RT and replaced them with Pro. sad.gif

Everything has its own bright and dark side, dude.
Try both of them by yourself.
I'm using Touch Cover to type the documents. So far so good. biggrin.gif

If KL doesn't have, probably whole Malaysia doesn't have it already. I'm not sure if you can request for pre-order as RT is actually an official product in Malaysia.
Of course you can look for good dealers in Garage Sale, and online through impart?

BTW Surface RT is very nice for college life. I'm a Pre-U student. biggrin.gif

Just bought surface pro from Aeon Station 18 in Ipoh, still charging before use for RM 3049 + 409 for tap keyboard. Vendor is SNS which is linked to itworld. There are still couple of units RT/Pro + accessories such as display port to vga, pen, etc. Main SNS Co. Is in Greentown business area near to Maybank, DIGI, Celcom.
Advantage of buying in Jusco AEON is rebate of RM10 per RM500 purchase or in this case saving RM60 + 3049 points for Jusco card.
So, want instant stock come to Ipoh.

yeah but dont say that its weak. when it comes to haswell, it will be a lot better than ivy bridge ones. almost like have a GT630M in it.

the current surface pro is powerful to handle far cry 3 under 1024x768 with low settings.

The pen can stick on the place you connect your charger. Its magnetic. Yes comes with it, you don't have to buy.

After updating, it can use up to 20gb including recovery partition. Personally I have the 128gb version. Even if you asked me again I will not even consider the 64gb model. If there were larger capacity models however I will definitely consider for them as the only factor is price.

After updating, it can use up to 20gb including recovery partition. Personally I have the 128gb version. Even if you asked me again I will not even consider the 64gb model. If there were larger capacity models however I will definitely consider for them as the only factor is price.

Thx for the reply.

Actually i am thinking to get a 64GB model and get a 64GB SDXC card (64GB SDXC just cost around RM200). then win8 and some desktop files will be storage in internal HDD and SDXC for others files, that will easy for me to transfer file to others PC in office.

Your method works too but a highspeed SDXC is not cheap. Compared to the internal SSD, SDXC is really kinda slow.

Yes, compare with SSD, SDXC is very slow, but easy to share files to others and secure. After working hours i just take out the SDXC and put into my wallet and go home. rclxms.gif

Just use external SD to store user files such as photos and music. For program files just install them into the internal storage.
Thus you no need to care too much about the performance of the external SD.
I'm the sure every devices will work fine with this.

Hi All, planning to get a Surface pro recently. but few questions for the surface pro owners.
1) How much HDD space using for Surface pro Win8?? 64GB model still got how many free space??
2) Surface pro 128GB RM3049 including pen?? Where to keep the pen??

thx
*
64gb shd give around 40 gb after removing the recovery partition

still it is quite cramped with Office, mb some games and adobe installed. And dont forget future system updates.

I would like to say, gaming on Surface RT is AWESOME!! (Compared to other ARM devices, of course.)
Played some games like Pinball FX2 and Hydro Thunder Hurricane.

Microsoft is planning to refresh its Surface RT with a Qualcomm processor. Existing Surface RT devices use Nvidia's Tegra 3 chipset, but Bloomberg reports that a refreshed version will ship using Qualcomm processors, while Nvidia continues to be a supplier for "some versions." The switch to Qualcomm, which appears to be for unannounced Surface RT devices, will likely come into effect later this year.

The first Surface with LTE support?

Sources familiar with Microsoft's Surface plans have revealed to The Verge that the company is testing Windows RT 8.1 Surface devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor. The chip includes integrated LTE support, allowing Microsoft to potentially ship its first Surface device with mobile broadband. Microsoft's ecosystem and planning chief, Mike Angiulo, hinted at this possibility while defending the Windows RT operating system earlier this year. "And on the ARM side, there is a propensity for a much higher percentage of PCs that are going to ship with mobile broadband [3G/4G]," said Angiulo at the time.

Microsoft has been clearing its existing stock of Surface RT devices recently. At a Tech-Ed conference earlier this month attendees could purchase a 64GB Surface RT with a Touch Cover for just $99.99. The software maker has also started selling its tablet to schools for $199, providing they purchase the device before September. The timing and Qualcomm testing would suggest that Microsoft is planning its refresh Surface RT hardware for around the time that Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 is finalized and ready to ship on devices this fall.

what are you doing? Intensive work that drives the CPU up obviously makes it a super hot plate. You could try lowering the max CPU performance which might limit the heat generated.

Hi All Kaki Surface

Do anyone know where can I buy surface screen protector at KL area?

for anyone who didn't have screen protector, please read this.

I just get my surface pro screen scratch, the culprit is tiny sand/dust that stick on my type pad when I put flip over and put it on floor,

when I flip it again and close the lid, put in my bag, the sand/dust is grinding the surface's glass surface. now I had two tiny unnoticeable crack....so before it is too late, please get a screen protector!!!!!

I think one of the reason surface RT 'flop' in sells is because many people doesn't consider it as a laptop replacement since it can't run normal x86 programs

oh why can't microsoft just release something like windows 8 lite instead of this RT?

many linux distros has a 'cd version' which can run totally on cd.. and if you need extras, need to install it on hard disk and add the extras later.. but everything will work fine...

no. windows RT should be for size 8" or below. 10" up should all be Windows 8

8" and below RT tabs should be sold at below RM800

Yea, this is the only downside for RT imo.
While Pro version can install 3rd party apps/software because it uses win8.
There's some new release of win8 based tablets from other brand like acer iinm, since the computex 2013.

There's an interesting review which somehow make me feel RT is still reasonable to get:

Well its good for a lot of things like web browsing and stuff and full desktop Facebook. Its an ideal device for games and social sites, sadly not many of those social sites have official apps for the RT.

PPS is the app you can watch a lot of movies with but Chinese sub only if not mistaken.

You guys should compare Surface RT (and other Windows RT devices) to the other tablets. It's unfair to take it as the laptop replacement. It's good enough to say "iPad" replacement though.

You will need to buy the proprietary cable to output that, but yes it works wonderfully for Powerpoint and similar works.

Unfortunately Windows driver cannot be installed on RT, however network compliant printers like Canon MX410 works without any driver installation or Canon actually made RT drivers available to download via Windows Update.

The most attractive proposition is the fact that the RT is good for light excel, word and powerpoint usages and microsoft office RT is bundled in with the price!! With batt life circa 8 hours, its an ideal laptop replacement for me to move around with for discussions/meeting purposes. Outlook will also become available soon with the next update of Office RT.

Have placed an order for a unit with type cover through a LYN forummer smile.gif

IMO keyboard is a big selling point. U can do computing everywhere, the kb cover is so thin and light and doubles the role of a protective cover, it'll stay attached all the time.

the type cover has more typing accuracy but the designs abit dull, touch cover on the other hand has much more design and colours, base on review, the touch cover made more mistakes while typing, however, i've nvr try long usage before

Recently a few of bulk orders regarding RT since the price drop.
Any trusted seller from garage sale is recommended? Some seller still need like 3 weeks to get the item from supplier after payment, which are quite awful slow imo.

Battery life when watching downloaded movie is what?

Better than new macbook air 11" or totally different?

I am an ipad user and enjoy it for movies, net but not much work done on it. Looking for a hybrid that i can work on and small enough to carry. Concerned about battery life

Are stores still stocking pro in KL?

The bulk are not because of the price drop. Its due to an official Microsoft offer to academic institutes which they able to process the order if the bulk is more than 500 pcs. Microsoft is currently clearing out almost 6 millions pcs of RT stock from their inventory as this stagnation cost them almost USD $1.6 billions loss.

Any seller will do IF they can provide you the copy of official offer to their respective institutes. And yes, unfortunately ETA is quite late. Probably in the middle of August.

p/s : The real price is RM 600+, so make sure the seller (middleman) so suck your blood too much laugh.gif

I see. There's one that selling at RM900, quite sucking blood lol. At first everyone thought he just get from supplier directly, in the end he also bulk orders.

Wife decided not to wait and got a unit from Thunder Match, Digital Mall. Unfortunately, no type cover available as the "package deals" are with touch covers only (RM1399). Also got a 32Gb microSD to complement the storage capacity.

Doing all the set ups and upgrading now. Will report more when I start using it.

Btw, noticed that the Surface Pro is significantly "thicker" than the RT

People just do not like Surface RT with no ability to open normal exe programs. If not, this is always the main reason.
BTW I'm a college student. Surface RT is more than enough for me.
I'm bad in giving reviews, but I would like to answer specific questions. tongue.gif
Bought it earlier with original price before the price drop. I can tell everyone that I NEVER regret. It worth the price!

Here's a positive review regarding RT: http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2013/02/2...est-comparison/.

They have their own pros and cons in their own way. I wouldn't compare them side by side because they don't even support the same file formats.

I'd love to hear about impressions on the Surface Pro as well. smile.gif
The price is certainly attractive for a pen-enabled x86-based device. But how does it compare against more costly hybrids like the Stylistic Q702 and the Thinkpad Helix? Would the 10.6" display be too cramped for it to be used as a primary pc for work?

The Surface Pro is tablet first, with PC like capabilities. If you're using it for PC work then better to get those new Ultrabooks that turns into tablet. 10.6" too small for standard PC usage on day to day.. for me anyway it is.

One of the reasons.
The best thing is the Microsoft Office. I'm a student, and I need it a lot.
iOS and Android can't help me with this part.

Initially I'm interested in tablet. When I know about Surface RT, I am strongly attracted by this feature.

QUOTE(Dominus91 @ Jul 24 2013, 11:52 PM)
im worrying about the future of RT. If microsoft really wanna abandon this ship, then this is another story of WebOS in Touch Pad..

And wanna ask a question, is the surface rt sharing same store with windows 8 phone?
*
No. The store is different.
The store is actually the SAME with Windows 8.

Microsoft promises to provide more than 2 years of support to Surface RT. I believe Windows RT will not so fast dead...

Main reason I want to get it is when I go to campus, it will be way more portable than my Retina MBP. If I really wanna use it on my home desk or even TV I can use HDMI out.

What kind of work are you wanting to do on it? Because believe it or not, I run my presentations from my mobile phone at times, connect via hdmi out to a projector. Even more portable. LOL

But yeah, I see the Surface Pro as a tablet with PC compatibility on the go etc, but not as your main work machine.

I think Surface Pro is still unique in market. None of the Tablet Hybrid PC can match it. I'm looking forward to the next Haswell Surface Pro. Hopefully more than 10 hours battery life notworthy.gif

Oh yeah regarding the shock/vibration feeling when charging, I experience it with the HTC One as well which uses an all aluminium unibody design which is somewhat familiar with Surface's magnesium body.

RT doesn't have SIM slot right? We gonna solely depend on WiFi?

The USB can't be use to insert portable moderm because the installation is normal .exe which can't be run by RT OS. Does my understanding is correct?

Not entirely. A normal USB transceiver for keyboard/mouse works on the RT. I think it will be up to Microsoft's driver support for the RT.

They have to lower their price already to fight.. Nexus 7 looks more attractive, cheaper, higher res, granted, smaller screen, but a more mature OS environment as well.

Microsoft really needs to more for their Surface lines to really surface up from their poor sales currently.

As mentioned, if you're a heavy Word, Power Point, Excel user, you're pretty much good to good with Windows RT, heck with the Windows 8.1 update you'll be able to get Outlook as well.

As for the apps, remember, it's never the quantity of the apps. It's wheter or not the apps you want are available or not. Basically you probably won't find most of the games from iOS and Android in the store first except for the major ones, so if gaming is more important than a fully functional Office to you than Windows RT is probably not for you.

There are apps in the Store that allows the playback of mkv and others but the result is not very good, kinda laggy. Correct me if there's a new app update or something that provides better playability.

The Metro Music app works fine biggrin.gif I'm still looking for a OK mkv player now with the RT. The current one I'm using is kinda laggy and others are paid. Maybe will try them out and give you guys some feedback. By the way, the RM1140 deal is extremely good biggrin.gif

IPMart is not very famous but they are trusted. And the Touch Keyboard is easy to wash, I poured some dish washer and brushed it. Its good as new now laugh.gif

Im looking forward more on mp4 format compatibility video player, since most anime source i found are moving from rmvb to mp4 now. Hmm if the paid version isn't expensive i will consider also.

Alright, I just downloaded mobile.HD Media Player(USD3.49). It plays 720p anime fine with the option to choose audio track # and option to load/add subtitle in SRT format. Will try 1080p movies now biggrin.gif

Well to be honest RM1140 is really a great deal already, the feel of holding it in the hands is absolutely enjoyable nod.gif

Edit: Tested the app with 1080p video, runs fine too but adding subtitle is not working, may be buggy still.

Great thumbup.gif , 720p is more than enough since the screen isn't big laugh.gif .
Try some other video formats like mp4, avi or rmvb to see if they work properly or not tongue.gif .

Used my RT through a full day of meetings yesterday. Fully charged, Meetings started from 10am through 5pm (with a short lunch break in between). Wifi of course, was on throughout. Had powerpoint running, excel and huge pdf files opened. Checked and responded to emails from time to time too.

By 5pm, batt was still holding >50% charge. Loving my RT!!!

Putting the RT through continuous use the other day, I am glad to say there was not much noticeable heat. Then again, I was only running excel, ppt and pdf files, no vigorous video playback etc

I hope you bought one which allows you to swipe all the way to the bottom. Most designs I have seen limits this because the only exposed part is at the bottom where the Home button is, in the middle.

This is the one I have ordered from eBay. Left, right, up, down also can swipe thumbup.gif

Envy now. Last time I bought Surface RT and RM2000++, though I never regret.
The price is cheaper and cheaper, until turning Surface RT apparently that "cheap". =,=

*
wah, a review, too soon for me actually, but a quick one may be possible, i hardly use the RT btw. Plan to trash it out in the coming weeks for a full review.

Surface RT

goods
Battery Life - 8 hours
lighter than Pro
as its arm architecture, RT will NEVER give you a blue screen
Connected standby- even when machine is on stanby, you still get latest updates / news feeds/mails upon wakinf it up
with 8.1 can join domain smile.gif
free lync / outlook / word / excel / powerpoint /one note (savings of at least 600 bucks here) smile.gif

bads
needs the original converter for vga - oem ones doesnt work
may be slower for multi tasking
unable to use x86 apps / relies on store apps

Surface PRO

goods
a complete replacement for laptop - its my work machine now smile.gif discarded my lappy (lenovo X220T)
lovely screen resolution
able to use oem mini dp to vga converter to extend screen
runs all program from you usual desktops / lappies plus all in store

bads
Max 4 hours battery life
Heats up pretty fast
Gotta pay for ms office sad.gif
Heavier
Connectivity off when hibernating/sleeping to preserve battery. means apps dont get updated

go to - Download 8.1 Preview
Make sure you haver a decent connection and plugged in to power source

Both my RT and Pro is still runing 8. but i installed in my workstation - took me almost whole night , at one point it rolled back to win 8 and i had to do the whole process again.
Anyways the word is, 8.1 RTM will be out really soon smile.gif

Where can you get those cables for Pro? I found this IPMart but you still have to purchase the cable http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/Mini...php?prod=362306

And this forum link http://forums.wpcentral.com/surface-window...micro-hdmi.html says that the RT works with micro HDMI to HDMI cable.

1. cables for pro can get from Lowyat / Pudu / ebay (this is Mini DP to VGA) (20-30 bucks)

2. i think you misunderstood, we have no problem with micro hdmi to hdmi . the problem is micro hdmi to vga and specifically extending via projector

wah, a review, too soon for me actually, but a quick one may be possible, i hardly use the RT btw.

So you do all your work in that 10.1 screen size? Or you plug to external monitor?

Most of the latest printer should work. Other old printers, most of them will not work.
Canon listed out their printer also. Not sure where is the page already...

that one is for RT. which I think most probably no need for car charger coz the battery lasting very long..

but different case for pro which I think will need car charger. pro consume lots of power, it won't last long.

RT charger works on Pro too, just that its half as fast. But for a charger which the power input, I think its gonna be slow for either Pro or RT.

Haha. You're interested too eh bro? tongue.gif

I can't find them on the forums yet either. I know Digital Mall got sell, RM 3xx listed price for the 64 GB version. rclxub.gif

But I suppose since it exceeds their own rated speeds, it's pretty awesome. Just don't know if the surface can even reach the rated speeds. LOL

The Samsung Pro SDXC can be found on the forums and is a tad slower than the sandisk, at I think 70 Read/30 Write or something like that for about RM 240 or so. Baik beli Extreme. doh.gif

USB Hub support is inherent for anything that support USB properly, just that if what you plug in requires too much power, it might not work unless you get a powered USB hub.
