Launched in Malaysia 11th October, 2012. In stores from 19th October,2012
Malaysia has the N7100 model by Samsung Malaysia. The N7105 LTE model may be obtained from other importers but LTE coverage is very limited as of now (Q1 2013). There is also a dual-sim model (N7102) available in selected markets.
You may also get an "Access to the software update service..." message like in the pic link below. This just means that the Samsung update server is full. Try again at another time. Patience is virtue. Access to the software update service screenshot
Samsung does not provide any meaningful changelogs. SO NOBODY KNOWS WHAT HAS CHANGED COMPARED TO THE LAST VERSION(s).
For those who already know how to flash: Download official firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ - login first. You will download a zip file. Unzip it for the tar file to be used for flashing

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - 2013-03-15 I posted this as a comparison between 2 very recent Samsung models of different processor generations ( A15 vs A9 ) and most of the comments actually come out in the Note 2's favour.
Some of the comments:
QUOTE
brendan soliwoda • I much as I am digging this new phone, I am perfectly content with my Note II and will not be switching anytime soon.
Chirag Thakkar • if i m gonna change my note 2 the only device replacing it will be note 3.
Ben Barren • i would love the 441 ppi and thinner is better but smaller screen and no S-pen i'll still take Note 2 until Note 3 tho i'd love JB 4.2.2
Mathilda • I can't let go my samsung note 2, because i always need the S pen for my study and write down my note. Note 2 just like my notebook combine with my laptop. Samsung SIV is good, but for student, the features in Note 2 is the reason i can't let go note 2.
Romeo Bucur • I already made my choice 3 days ago. Just bought a note 2 and i don't regret it for a second.. the s pen and the large display make browsing the web a very nice experience.. and about the "ppi" war.. note 2 has a beautiful display.. certenly more than the averege user will ever need... can' wait for note 3...
k brooks • Ive had my note 2 since September and I still love it and it's still makes the I phone 5 look like a kiddies toy. The screen on the note 2 is still superb (even tho its not full hd) and very bright. I've got 118 apps installed , and it is still as fast as it was when I first got it (which surprises alot of people). The battery life is another great bonus. I'll upgrade , but only to the note 3. I'm sure the S4 will sell very well though and is great for people who can't handle the extra size of the note 2
Aliff Alfiry • Nope, I won't change my Note II for S4. As you can see by now, Note is in it's own league, and the only true successor to Note II is the Note III, not S4. Both cater for different market. S4 for mainstream market, Note for niche market. Alas, I'm sure most of Note II users will wait till Note III comes out and then decide to buy it or not, because going to S4 feels like downgrading no matter how great the performance and screen quality are
A review by ZDNet on 2013-02-03 Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Big enough to be worth the trouble - James Kendrick Excerpt: Conclusion: the best phone I have ever used This article has only touched on some of the features that make the Note 2 so useful. Useful is a good description for the Note 2 as it is easily the best phone I have ever used. It's certainly not for everyone, which is true for any smartphone, but for those looking for an innovative phone in the crowded Android space the Note 2 is worth a look.
A review of the Note 2 about 3 months after launch (in December 2012) and still shows up favorably against newer phones. Galaxy Note II - After The Buzz - post-hype review 2012-12-06 - contributed by klmc

QUOTE(benny888 @ Mar 11 2013, 09:02 AM)
TS (christina1, NOT joytest) is already using a note2 n considering change to Xperia z. I suggest she consider the butterfly instead. I have used all these 3 phones n seriously Xperia z n butterfly cannot be compared to note2 due its much bigger display n spen features. Butterfly n Xperia Z quite similar in performance but butterfly thrumps the Xperia Z in display quality n very obvious audio quality. Camera wise both quite similar but Xperia z camera launching is dreadfully miserably slow. Slowest I have seen to date. Xperia Z advantages is waterproof n dustproof
I am not dissing the other phone. I am just quoting what others have replied when asked which phone should one choose when given a choice between Note 2 and something else.
I am of the opinion that to date, there is nothing out there that can yet compare with the Note 2 simply due to the inclusion of the active digitizer and its pocketability.

What's in the sales package (applies only to SME sets)
A sealed box with the blue Samsung sticker and an e-Warranty sticker.
The serial number and IMEI stickers are at the side.
In the box you will find the phone, battery, a WHITE 3-pin charger rated at 2A, a WHITE micro-usb cable, a pair of WHITE headphones and a short manual which also describes e-warranty.
NOTE: If you are getting an AP set, the charger will have the pin configuration of the region it came from (eg 2 round pins for Europe sets) NOTE: If you get a set with a BLACK charger and BLACK cable, you may not be getting a Note II and it is likely a knockoff.
How to check your phone
Check your IMEI by dialing *#06# and compare it with the one on the sticker on the box. It has to be the same. There could be an extra "/01" which you can ignore.
Check all your phone's features by dialing *#0*#. You will get a full screen of clickable boxes. Click each one to ensure that those respective features are tested and working fine. Hit the back button to exit the test you are in.
Remove the battery and confirm that there is a SIRIM sticker (applicable only to SME sets). Then compare the serial number, ensure it matches with the one on the box sticker.
Go to Settings>Storage and ensure that it is showing 10.36Gb total space (if you have a 16Gb device) This is the correct amount of free storage after the default software is loaded.
LINK:Difference between LTE and Non-LTE versions of the Note 2 Due to some technical differences between N7100 and N7105, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FLASH ROMS !!! Most roms/kernels on XDA are meant for the N7100. Please ensure that your rom/kernel can be used on the N7105 before you flash.

The Battery
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
My 2 cents about battery use: Firstly, ALL USERS here on this forum report usages >12hours ie 1 whole day out, with at least 3hours AND MORE of "Screen On Time" or what we term "SOT". Typical battery life tends to be 4+hours SOT with 18+hours total use. This is a SMARTPHONE and should be enjoyed for all its wonderful features of large screen for movies/browsing/reading, powerful CPU for gaming, data connectivity for surfing etc. If you can get 1 whole day's use out of a full charge, I don't see why there is a need to complain. Charge when you are sleeping. Read the link about batteries, and you won't kill your battery from overnight charging.
IF you are getting less than 3hours SOT, and/or less than 12 hours of total use, then the most likely cause is some badly behaved app or apps that won't go to sleep and keeps your CPU running high. See Advanced Topics for Wakelocks and what to do about them.
See Post 11 for some of our forumer's Battery Life Records.
The non-linear nature of Quick Charge significantly shortens charge time, particularly in the very early stages of charging when the device's battery is presumably fully discharged. As the device's battery voltage increases, current delivery tapers off and the QC advantage is no longer as great as a standard USB BC 1.2 solution. The end result though is significantly improved charge times.
The graph below shows the benefits of using Samsung's own charger vs. a standard charger that implements the USB BC 1.2 specification. When used with the bundled charger, the Galaxy S 4 recharges much faster than HTC's One, despite using a larger battery. Obviously the Galaxy S 4 will charge with any USB charger, but the charge time will simply be longer. Samsung uses a voltage divider and signals the presence of their own charger by sending 1.2-1.3 V across the D+ / D- pins, this is similar to what Apple does with 2.0 or 2.8 V across the pins for various USB chargers they've shipped over the years. This signaling is essentially Samsung's proprietary tablet charging signaling which they've employed on the Galaxy Note 2 and now SGS4, in fact the two use the same exact charger, so it's worth tossing out your old ones and getting the appropriate one to take advantage of the faster charging.

How tough is Gorilla Glass 2?
How Gorilla Glass is made with Corning's Fusion Process
Cost to replace a cracked screen - PrinceCaspien The Note 2 screen has a Wacom digitizer, and this is bonded to the glass during assembly. When you replace the screen at the service center, both will get replaced as a single assembly.
If you are adventurous, you can try to do it yourself. See Advanced section.
The MicroSD card slot
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The Note 2 has a microSD card slot. MicroSD (or sometimes abbreviated "usd/uSD" card since "u" looks like the Greek letter "mu") is the physical format of the card. The logical format (ie how the computer/phone sees it) can be FAT16, FAT32, exFAT or even NTFS.
FAT32 officially supports up to 32Gb. Cards greater than 32Gb will default to 64Gb and be in exFAT format. Only Windows 7 and above support exFAT natively. Vista and Windows XP need additional drivers.
Nominally the exFAT standard supports up to 2Tb (terabytes) of storage.

S-Pen (usage and settings)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 2 works in conjunction with the Wacom digitizer bonded to the screen. The digitizer creates an electromagnetic field that detects the S-Pen up to 12mm away. Jointly, this also allows for more precise content manipulation and rendering. The Air View feature, for example, uses the digitizer to preview content based on the proximity of the S-Pen to the display.
The S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 2 is longer, thicker, and more ergonomically designed compared to the one in the original Galaxy Note. The S-Pen allows for some of the Note family's (the original Note, Note 10.1, Note 8.0, Note II) most innovative features, including Easy Clip, which allows quick cropping of images by simply pressing the S-Pen button; Quick Command, which activates frequently used apps just by swiping up on the display; and Air View, which allows previewing of content when the S-Pen is placed near the display.

One of the world's most recognised people is also a proud Note 2 owner:
Yet it does almost everything it sets out to do perfectly, with grace, class and maximum functionality that if you're in the market for a larger smartphone or a small tablet, there really is no better device.
Verdict Having used the GALAXY Note II for a longer period, its power continues to shine through. It's by far one of the best media devices on the market, and whether you use the inbuilt web browser or Google Chrome, you'll always be whizzing around the internet no matter if you're using 4G, 3G or Wi-Fi.
Users are almost unanimous in their love of the functionality on board, be it as a phone, a tablet, a PC (with the Smart Dock) and even being able to show the screen on a larger TV using All Share.
In short, the GALAXY Note II shows that Samsung has managed to create a new class of device, one that fits between the common lines between devices and shows a whole new world is possible with one of these in your pocket.
The 4 Best Android Phones Available Right Now - 2013-04-09 6 months after launch, the Note 2 is still a major contender as a Top-of-the-Line phone against all newcomers. Standout specs: Gigantic 720p display, stylus, quad-core processor, 2GB RAM.

Why it’s great: This phablet proved that some users will happily buy a cross between a smartphone and tablet rather than two separate devices. The fact the Galaxy Note II has excellent hardware no doubt helped the case – inside you’ll find one of the strongest quad-core processors on the market, gobs of RAM, an SD card slot that can handle up to a 64GB card and a huge battery.
And then there’s the stylus. Samsung has found some innovative ways to make it an essential device for texts, document editing and web navigation. There’s no other Android phone that can provide more value to consumers who productivity on-the-go.

Quick background: I'm probably what most would consider an average smartphone user. I use my phone for fairly common things: email, text, weather, YouTube, browse the web, Google Reader (RIP). Nothing too heavy. I’ve owned an iPhone 3G, a Samsung Captivate (OG Galaxy), Atrix 2, and a HTC One X.
I recently upgraded to a Note II (refurbished for $0.99 from AT&T, woot woot) and it's completely changed the way I use my phone, but not for the reasons you might imagine.
Yes, the large screen is nice and has changed the way I browse the web. I can open up the desktop version of a website and read all of the text without having to zoom in, at all. But the real thing that has changed how I use my phone? Battery life. And this isn't even bespoke to the Note II. The Razr Maxx (HD) gets great battery life. But I wanted to post this to let people who are in the market for a new phone know that battery life really will change how you use your phone.
From the moment I leave for school in the morning until the moment I go to sleep at night, I never, ever, even think about my Note II’s battery. No matter what I'm doing. Watching 20 minutes of YouTube? Don't even think about it. Using Maps with GPS turned on? Don't think about it. Streaming music during my 45 minute commute? Nope, don’t think about my battery. In the past, all of these things would have had me frantically checking my phones battery. It wasn’t until I got the Note II that I realized just how much I had been worrying about my phone's battery. I used to constantly check it because below about 50%, all the phones I mentioned above would plummet.
I just upgraded from the VZW G-Nex up to the Note 2. Like OP said, it really has changed the way I use my phone. With my Nexus, I kept a dock in my office, one in my home office, and chargers plugged in the living room and bedroom as well. Playing a game on an emulator with a USB controller plugged in would drain my battery from full to shutdown in 90 minutes. Even just GPS and Pandora on my 30 minute commute would knock the battery down to 75%.
With the Note 2, even with the gigantic screen, I have not yet gotten a battery warning, ever. For a week I still carried my SIM-less Nexus, figuring I could use it for music and games and "save my precious phone battery." Honestly though, even using the Note for music, games, social networking and office apps throughout the day, the battery has held up like a champ. I presume heavy data usage over the mobile data rather than wifi will eventually beat up the battery, like it does on any phone, but honestly overall I'm just completely blown away by the user experience of this phone. ===== theklinksGalaxy Note II, Stock 9 points 19 hours ago
I went through the same upgrade -- VZW Gnex to Note 2 -- and actually got frustrated when I couldn't drain the Note 2's battery in one day. Now that I'm used to it, I freaking love it. I can use the hell out of the Note 2 and not worry that I'll be dead in the water on the commute home. ===== ToiletNinjasGalaxy Nexus 4.1.1, Galaxy Tab 10.1 Stock, Archos 70 6 points 19 hours ago
One random luxury I've noticed - Splashtop is a DREAM on this phone. Obviously gaming lags insanely and is a poor idea, but it is really nice for viewing content on my desktop, starting up a download to be waiting for me when I get home, or monitoring my system. Even the Nexus' decent sized screen felt a little small, and the curve made it awkward, but the Note 2 really feels like a little "desktop remote". ===== DrDerpbergNexus S, Nexus 4 61 points 17 hours ago
I can see it now: a commercial where you get wrapped up in whatever you're watching on your Note II at breakfast. You ignore your food, leaning in focusing on the screen. Time skips a bit and the shadows in your room are different, but you're still staring at the screen with your food in front of you. Time skips again, to the evening. And again, to the middle of the night, with you passed out in your eggs and bacon but still just barely holding your Note II up, chugging happily along.
The tag might be something along the lines of "This phone has more energy than you do", but I'm no marketing guru. ===== vincredibleGalaxy Nexus (VZW) 43 points 20 hours ago
I agree completely. I had a Galaxy Nexus before I switched to my Note II (both on Verizon) and I had to be so careful with my time spent using the phone. It got decent battery life with the screen off, but even at the lowest brightness, just leaving the screen on for a few texts or a brief bout on Reddit would drain significant percentages of the battery. Don't even get me started on what 5 minutes of YouTube would do to it.
I felt the exact same way when I switched to the Note II. For the first few weeks, I was so giddy over the battery life, I was watching it like a hawk, mainly because I wanted to benchmark how awesome it was (and it was pretty awesome), but once I got past the honeymoon phase, it just became this thing I never thought about again.
Until I read this thread, I probably hadn't actually looked at my battery meter in days. I charge it at night but I never know how low it is when I plug it in - it's certainly not low enough to be of concern. I do whatever the hell I want on this phone. An hour of YouTube, 6 hours of streaming music at work, calls, texts, Reddit, downloading, uploading, games, GPS. None of it matters. I don't have to worry about whether my WiFi/BT/GPS is on or off and potentially hurting my battery life. The thing just chugs along and never ever gets low. It just works the way I need it to work.
Excellent write-up concering what is easily my favorite aspect of the Note II!
by Charles Chambers Used to be a diehard iPhone fan since 07. Switched to android in 11 and I love it. The difference between android and iOS: iOS is like living in a nice hotel. You don't have a lot of choice but it looks nice and easy to use. Android is like buying your own home. Buy an really nice home (android device) and you will probably love it. You can change and customize it however you want. It's yours! You can also buy cheap.
Computer pioneer Alan Kay says the iPad has “been dumbed down so far it’s distressing” (2013-03-29)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
“The iPad’s been dumbed down so far it’s distressing. And Microsoft of course followed suit with its interface.”
Kay claims the iPad is an anti-personal computer and not only is difficult, but doesn’t allow for symmetric creation. Instead of personal computers being designed “as a place where people are going to spend a lot of time and different people can exist there”, their design is based on marketing and the most number of devices being sold to the largest number of people.
Kay has a vast experience working with mobile computing devices dating back to the 1970s when he worked at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) which developed the first graphical user interface and personal computer. It was from there that Steve Jobs and Bill Gates got their ideas for what would become the two largest operating systems on the planet, Windows and Mac OS.

A word about the terms "AP" and "Ori" (not the best choice of terms, but this is Bolehland ) A real Samsung (or any manufacturer's) device is Original whether it's SME or AP. We get our terminology confused due to the use of the term "AP" here whereas the correct term is "Parallel Import" or "Grey Market". And again due to the proliferation of counterfeit goods in this part of the world, the term "original" is also misappropriated to denote "Genuine".
SME vs AP is simply a matter of distribution channel for a Genuine product. You can also get "original" counterfeits since it comes directly from the manufacturer of said counterfeit.
Yoobao, it shows original. Yes but it has different messages to show if it's original Powerbank. Most of the time, those fellows buy cheap Yoobao accessories like screen protector and peel out the stickers and put on their fake Yoobao. So when you check warranty n it will show original but actually it's original for the screen protector not your Powerbank.
Powerbank's original message slightly differs.
I'm on mobile now. Let me go back home and check out more info for you guys.
QUOTE(fruitie @ Apr 25 2013, 10:55 PM)
As promised in my previous post, these are the two different authentication messages. Credit to mirrorstore, one of the original Powerbank sellers on LYN.
However only in Chinese characters, so for non-Chinese readers, you better compare yours with these messages. Check it from this website: http://www.sz12365.net
1) Original YooBao PowerBank's authentication message:
您所购买的是深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司生产的羽博正品产品,敬请放心购买使用!谢谢!
商品品牌 : YOOBAO
商品归属公司 : 深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司
2) Use other original Yoobao's accessories' code. The message: 您所购买的是深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司生产的YOOBAO羽博正品保护类专用品牌YOOBAO羽博正品保护类专用,感谢您对深圳市锐讯天成科技有限公司产品的支持!
The easiest way to check is verify your warranty from this link: http://www.yoobao.com/defend.asp, make sure the message is same as no. 1.
http://www.sz12365.net also can be used to check for other brands' warranty, so it is better to use Yoobao's own verifier.
XDA site for Galaxy Note II (N7100 and N7105) Samsung Galaxy Note II - N7100 and N7105 XDA has 2 threads for Development (ie ROMs, kernels etc) discussions. The one called Android Development deals with ROMs/kernels/tweaks etc that are "cooked" ie modified from STOCK. The one called Android Original Development deals with ROMS/kernels/tweaks etc that are built from scratch (AOSP/AOKP) or are entirely original in their approach. Note that AOSP/AOKP does not fully support all Exynos features as Samsung has sadly not released the full details of the Exynos processor to the dev community.
XDA sites for other variants of the Galaxy Note II (not N7100 or N7105) - applicable for sets from US Telcos AT&T Sprint T-Mobile Verizon
This is the best way of detecting incoming charge current for your Galaxy Note 2 (also works on the S3). It does not seem to work on other devices. It reads a file here /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_avg This provides an objective method to compare charging variances, and will help to narrow down slow charging issues. Very often it is the cable, or a combination of a lousy charger with the cable. The Note needs a charger that outputs at least 1.5A (with GCC readings of 1400 and above) for good charging speeds.
After extensive testing by forumers, and most notably brotan, good chargers output 1500 and above. brotan has a supply of DUAL USB, DUAL 2A output chargers that have been tested working by several forumers. He also has original cables that can carry 2A current properly.

Since we're actually going to discuss rooting, here is an article for you to understand why your phone is not supplied rooted out of the box: Why Doesn’t Android Come Rooted? - 2013-03-12
So now let us begin.
A very very brief description of phone architecture: portions of writeup credits to antt00 for clarification
The table shows components of the architecture from bottom to top. At the lowest level you have the physical hardware, then upwards you have the firmware and the rest. The userland is where the User (you) interact with the hardware using the programs/apps you installed.
I'm writing this because you are holding a portable COMPUTER that has phone capabilities. So you should treat your device like a COMPUTER first, and a phone and/or camera second. See this:LINK:Smartphones are the PCs of the future
A "ROM" typically contains a kernel, a radio (some have several you can choose from) and the userland. Some ROMs do not contain a kernel or you can elect not to install its default kernel and use the one you currently have. I provide a link further down this writeup to the Cyanogenmod wiki for a further explanation.
The Baseband or Radio contains settings to connect to the transmission towers, while the CSC contains settings specific to your mobile operator in the APN list (eg Maxis 3G, Maxis Streaming, Celcom 3G/2G etc)
Component
Changeable?
Description
Rest of ROM (userland)
Y
eg monx, Alliance, Phoenix (usually "ROMS" include the kernel and radio as well)
Kernel
Y
The Kernel is a low level component that handles management of the hardware. It exists in all Operating Systems like Linux, Windows, OSX etc. Android is based on Linux, and Google has been cooperating with the Linux community to merge kernel development effort. eg Abyss, Perseus, Redpill
CSC (Carrier/Country Specific Code
Y
CSC settings include the APN (Access Point Names) list for your region's telco settings. It provides some parameters for your specific telco (eg Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G, Maxis Streaming etc). Some ROMs contain multiple CSCs for more region support. You typically do not mess with this otherwise you will not be able to access the data network.
Baseband (also known as Radio)
Y
The radio handles your phone's hardware communications with the telco network. It simply allows your device to fulfill its phone function. eg DLK5, DLK7. Some apps allow you to change the network parameters used. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS unless you REALLY KNOW what you are doing!
Recovery
Y
The Recovery allows you to perform some functions like flashing mods and ROMs. It is the lowest level component that the user can interact with. eg CWM, Philztouch, TWRP
Firmware begins:Bootloader
Y
This starts the phone booting process when you press the power button. It is also the location of flash counter. Triangle Away changes values here. The bootloader is UNLOCKED. However, there are no custom bootloaders yet for the Note 2.
Hardware (components)
N
Screen, Battery, the stuff you can touch
Of course someone like AdamOutler (on XDA) can mod the HARDWARE. That guy is a real guru.
You CAN mix and match components marked "Y" from different countries, kernel, ROMs etc. It's fine, although some Radio versions may give you reduced signal performance.
A note about CPU, RAM, ROM and "Storage" Think about you sitting at a desk with drawers. You are the CPU. The RAM is like your desk space. The larger your RAM or desk space, the more stuff you can work on at a time. But then of course, the more you work on, the more "you" is needed ie multi-core CPUs. Storage is like your drawers. The larger your drawers (storage) the more stuff you can store (your mp3s, mp4s, pdfs etc).
ROM, in this case, is technically "Read Only Memory". It is like the master plate used in printing, or perhaps a DVD. You can deface, tear or crumple your printout but you can always get a fresh printout by stamping from the master plate. So the ROM is actually a master plate or clean slate you can revert to if you have problems with FCs (forced closes) or random problems with your phone. You get the clean slate by performing a Factory Reset.
In your phone, the ROM resides on an area of Storage that is accessible by the Recovery. In the early days, a ROM was a physical chip that you replaced or re-flashed with special hardware. Nowadays everything is highly integrated.
Some additional clarification from Cyanogenmod if you're still not satisfied with the writeup here.
Now you can begin.
Rooting for Beginners - some general explanations and understanding
The simple, non-sexy, non-flashy, techie answer: root gives you administrator (ie God) access to your device. Root DOES NOT change your phone in any other way. No speed-ups, no slowdowns, no other changes or magic. But it OPENS THE DOOR to magic
Other answers using different metaphors:
Easiest Explanation EVER To Explain Root Vs Jailbreak Think of it like the Matrix: Jailbreaking is comparable to what Morpheus could do. He could bend the rules of the system to overcome certain restrictions, but was still bound to its rules. Rooting is what Neo could do. Not only could he bend the rules, he could completely break them
LINK:Difference between ios Jailbreaking and Android Rooting an excerpt: Now while IOS users might consider jailbreaking their iPhone the same thing as Android users rooting their Android phones, there is a HUGE difference. In fact, you can't even compare jailbreaking to rooting, and here's why. Android out of the box allows users to install 3rd party apps (also known as sideloading), already allows you to install themes, and even allows you to install applications directly from your SD card or internal memory of your device. Everything that IOS users hope to accomplish with jailbreaking their device is already included as basic functionality within Android.
Does Rooting Void warranty? For Samsung phones, it's a yes and no answer. From the terms and conditions, rooting/flashing will void your warranty, but Samsung Malaysia is not strict about this. So far there have not been cases of Samsung rejecting rooted phones, but please be prudent and perform a Triangle Away counter reset and flash stock firmware before turning in your phone for warranty.
If you live in the USA, rooting (of phones only) is legal as proclaimed by the Librarian of Congress, so you shouldn't have any issues with warranty. The US legal system has not clearly defined what a "tablet" is, so you can't root tablets. We don't know the case for "phablets"
Can rooting damage your phone? It is a one in a million chance. If you are afraid of this slim chance, don't root. This usually happens due to PEBKAC issues. Therefore, if you are prone to PEBKAC, do not proceed. Please google PEBKAC for your OWN UNDERSTANDING AND PROTECTION. If you do not suffer from PEBKAC, then please ensure 1 very important thing: your download is NOT corrupt. For Windows, use this tool: HashTab by implbits Make sure that your file MD5 matches the one from the host site. If the MD5 matches, your download is clean, and you may proceed.
There may be cases where you will not have the MD5 from the host site. If that is the case, use this tool: http://www.7-zip.org/ Install it. Select default options, and then run "Test archive" from the right click menu. Passing the test will give you a good indication your download is not corrupt.
What is the Flash Counter and Triangle Away? There is a counter in the phone that checks for flashing of custom ROMs. If you have flashed a custom kernel or ROM, the counter will increase. When you get into Download mode, it will show that the counter has increased. This tells Samsung that you have modified with your phone. You can reset this counter by using Triangle Away.
What is this about "locked bootloaders" ? As you have seen from the writeup above, the bootloader starts your device. In Samsung, it also contains some checking code to determine whether you have a modified recovery and/or kernel. However, Samsung did not lock down the bootloader. A locked down bootloader means you can't root, can't change recovery, kernel or ROM. We all fervently hope Samsung continues in this fine tradition.
Now, other manufacturers practice bootloader locking as a so-called "security measure" to protect, ostensibly, the user. See link above about why your phone is not rooted out of the box. Here is a link to a post by an XDA forumer about bootloaders for Samsung, HTC and Sony.
Also see this post (2013-03-08) by DooMLoRD, a recognized XDA developer, on his steps for unlocking the Sony bootloader. Warnings quoted from his post :
QUOTE
Quote: For Xperia™ devices released 2013 or later (for example Xperia™ Z and Xperia™ ZL), the SD card of your device will be formatted and you will lose all content (for example photos, music, videos) when you unlock the boot loader. DRM keys WILL be lost forever

There is NO best rom n will never be any. If there is the whole developer community will shutdown Read the respective xda thread and see what appeals to you n read too user comments There is no quick answer Test yourself Choose which rom you want to test n ask for opinions here is better
Mod's response: Closing this thread as there is no better Rom than others. They are all different and one Rom that fits someone needs might not be suitable to another user.
After you're done rooting and flashed an appropriate Recovery, you can get into Recovery Mode for : 1. Flashing ROMs (rooted stock, custom ROMs, mods) 2. Performing system wipes 3. Performing "Nandroid" backups
Stock Recovery only allows you to perform system wipes.
Getting into Recovery Mode Press Power + VOL Up + Home buttons simultaneously while the phone is off. If you have difficulty getting into Recovery mode, > LINK:try this

If you are an advanced user and familiar with flashing etc from any other Android phone, the link here will point you to all such topics related to the Note 2. Samsung Galaxy Note II - N7100, N7105 - for other variants (eg AT&T etc), please search for those models on XDA as they are in a different forum.
If you are a noob/newbie to all this stuff, please read the link to the NOOB Guide FIRST before asking how to flash ROMS and so forth.
Having said that, if you do not wish to take the first plunge to root and flash your phone, that is perfectly fine as well. All users here have report immense satisfaction with the stock rom and across the web the general consensus is also that Samsung has done very well with the stock rom of the Note 2, barring any Touchwiz haters.

Upgraded from S3, and after custom ROM and kernel, the battery life is superb! Using Omega ROM v16, perseus v35, undervolted. Now it will be hard to change to any other phone since N2 battery is in tablet territory...
Seeing how much SOT you guys are getting, seriously reminded me how productive are you guys at work? Minus all those travelling and off work hours, you are still spending at least 2 hours or more staring at your phone at work.

My personal opinion is that naked phones are just accidents waiting to happen, and also that so-called "cases" that leave the top and bottom bezels exposed do not deserve the term "case". IMHO, a real case covers the entire bezel, the back and also a rim lip on the front face of the device. To each his/her own.
hell no, i still prefer note for the size and the s pen, which is why i won't even bother thinking about the s4. and i'm done giving swimming lessons when i myself can't swim lololol. well because i was at office early in the morning, cleaner come clean my table, pail put beside, i blur blur there, accidentally push the phone into the pail. never happen before when the pail wasn't there zzz. maybe i can go to 9gag make a post. One piece of advice. PLEASE CHECK APP PERMISSIONS BEFORE INSTALLING. An app should not have permissions beyond what its stated functionality should be. For example, a Wallpaper app should have NO PERMISSIONS. A Launcher will naturally have access to permissions for Calling and SMS and Phone Hardware (vibrate settings etc).
If you install MyHotSexyGirlLiveWallpaper with access to Calls, Network Status and SMS, then ....
Semantics of Fear Applications claiming to be “antivirus” are merely detecting what has the potential to be malware, something that a developer of an application may have snuck into the software code that is meant to steal data or interact with the device in such a way as to cause it to send premium SMS messages at the victim’s expense. This is more correctly defined as being a Trojan or form of spyware, but given the years of conditioning by security firms “Virus” sounds a lot scarier.
Common Senseless Although these detection capabilities may be marginally useful to the end user, they do not by any stretch of the imagination fit the definition of an “antivirus” or replace common sense – that is to say, being cautious about which applications you download and then carefully reviewing the permissions for each application if you do install it.
Does that “Barney Wallpaper” app you download really need access to your contacts, call history and location?
You may share your findings of new toys in the thread. I will add worthwhile app links here. The apps below can usually be found on Google Play store. There are a lot of keyboard options out there, but few put the focus and energy into grammar and spelling than the next app on our random apps list this week. Called Grammar & Spelling Keyboard, this keyboard focuses on learning how you type and will help correct your spelling and grammar. Unlike many, it actually won’t touch your words until you tell it to as it checks text as a whole as opposed to word by word. So if you like to type quick and correct later, this could be a good keyboard.
Does it handle resume properly? And did you try the anote apk from last night?
I actually use the default downloader, used to use download Blazer on my s2,but no more these days Thing is a lot of people in xda seem to like this downloader, so maybe you could give it a shot?
I prefer smaller size (4.7 - 5) when when going outdoor. A bit bigger (5.3 - 5.7) when working. (at office) Mid tablet size (7.0 - 8.0) for leisure/reading. (in house)

For me note 2 its the biggest for a mobile anything bigger looks weird
I don't find it weird n I couldn't be bother if others think so. As long it fits into my pockets I am fine with it. I can even easily fit my 7 inch to 7.7 inch tablet ( except ipad mini) into my side pockets I just order lastnight the 5.9 inch Pantech Vega6 to try out. Specs look good

i have seen my client and some friends using the 7.7 it really looks funny especially people with smaller head.

This big phone era is coming, like the 1st note come. Now looking people using 5'+ phone not so weird anymore imo.
That pictures shows tablets..not big phone like Note1 and 2. Only stupid.ppl put tablet on their face when calling/answering calls. Clever/normal ppl use earset or bluetooth or just put the tablet on the desk and use its speakerphone.

Yup still none . But that era are closing in . Now some kids are using galaxy grand cuz it's cheaper.
I thought Galaxy Grand only 5"..right..? That smaller than Note2. But sometimes the phone design also play part in making the phone smaller although it have bigger display. Best example Note1 (5.3) to Note2 (5.5) and also S3 (4.8) to S4 (5.0)

Yup, samsung tablets have a wide bezel. 4 inch vs 5 inch, the difference are huge. But for owner of note 1 and 2, 5 inch is still small .
aspire2006 photos shows tablets 7 inch and greater those guys uses as phone. I never use my tablets to make phone calls. Is only a bonus that the tablets can make phone calls Following the trend of some guys who doesn't mind using tablets - ASUS has released its FonePad ( 7 inch display phone which happens to be a tablet secondary) and is darn cheap at RM700+ only. Of course the specs are not that high end but not mediocre either The trend of using even tablets as phone will pick up. I remember everyone was shocked that the first Note was considered even too big to be used as a phone Anyway I did a cardboard cut out of the upcoming Note 3 ( assuming is 6.3 inch display n size specs) and I'd say the size is not much bigger than the present Note 5.5. I'd say I'd feel comfortable using it as a phone

RIGHT ON ! After having used the Note 2, using even a 5 inch phone I find too small already ( eg Xperia Z and Butterfly) I thought the Xperia Z could replace my Note 2 but I was wrong. At the end after 2 months, I bought back the Note 2 at RM 100 more than what I sold off the previous Note2 . Now the Xperia Z is just a spare phone , which I take out for my morning and evening exercise

looking forward for your review on htc one vs s4...thinking of buying either one for my wife..dilemma..
If only for wife..better get HTC1. Look much nicer. If for ourself (kaki flashing/mods)..get S4...lolz
agree with you on dat..but since it's for her usage..flashing/mods ain't key criteria..her concern is mostly casing since htc casing isn't widely available (the cheapo one)..the seller did say that the htc body is scratch proof..but is it drop proof?..
it would be such shame hiding that beautifully design uber body but safety first I guess..

No phone is scratch proof. I think you can get a transparent TPU casing for HTC1. Already in market if i'm not mistaken. Or teach her on using pouch. I myself prefer pouch than casing..
Hehe good morning all. Talking about big phones already. Bujal.x did a quick review in the vega 6 thread. Uncle benny's should be more in depth.
Furthermore any seller that says a phone is scratch proof is simply talking bs. Unless it's a vertu w sapphire glass and titanium body.
Aluminium bodied phones are far worse at handling drops. I dropped my mediapad from waist height and there's a gash already

I have to agree with that uncle..last night I went to The Garden too look for a new phone,5 inch because I feel my note 2 is kinda bulky..tested the Xperia Z and HTC Butterfly..suddenly feel like the screen and the icon is too tiny for me..damn u note 2 ..i cant switch to another phone and stick with my note 2 atlast

Not that I am disagreeing with anyone. Being pragmatic, I think it is a matter of getting used to it. And that requires time. However, like I have always said and I have never deviated, it depends on one's preference.
Again, IMHO, it's one of those which I say would be no definite conclusion as on the face of this earth we live, there is such a diverse cut of demographic that no 2 humans are alike which would then invite differing opinion.
Are you the type of person that breaks or misplaces their smartphone? Chances are you are not alone.
What is also rather interesting is that if you are the type that breaks their stuff, or falls victim to it being stolen, take it to heart that such things happen regularly and what is even more interesting is how these incidents occur, and whom they occur to.
For example, we have all heard a story about someone dropping their smartphone in the toilet. Well, it turns out that men are 57% more likely to drop their smartphone in the toilet, although most damage incidents in the bathroom overall happen to women (by 41%).

The Go suite of products tend to have some issues here and there. I used Go SMS on my Note 1, and for a little while when I got Note 2. Felt that it sucked, so have stopped ever since.
They originally allowed you to save XML SMS backups to your gmail but then they switched to backing up to their cloud, so another minus for me.
You meant "recharged" right?

hye bro..would like to clarify with you..Du@lnote rom does not mitigate SPlanner? and unlike TW u can't swipe a contact's name right to call/left to message? somehow contact does not sync with sms (name does not appear)..or did I miss something during installation..
using the black theme..really digging the looks and batt life but missing the TW function..

1. Am not using du@lnote atm. 2. What u mean by mitigate 3. Did u install AOSP dialer instead of Stock dialer. Some roms have this option. 4. Backup contacts, delete contacts and re-sync again to get your contacts showing.

haha..sorry for the wrong choice of words..what I meant was migrate..don't know why I wrote mitigate..mixing up works with forum reading..
not quite sure about the dialer..supposedly I'll see it during Aroma installation right?
yerp..it has calendar but not SPlanner..will reflash once at home..this time around I dont need to clear cache/Dalvik right?
had the same problem as well.. but after reflash, it was ok.. dont need to clear cache/dalvik.. but i have a habit of doing all everytym i flash.. just to be safe..
Any1 here currently using Emotion Note II rom? Does the setting crashes when u choose simplistic settings in the system setting? Any problems with the toggle? Flashed it three times.. then changed to Du@lNote..
For rooted phones, can i just get the OTA update, or revert 1st to stock before updating?

Splanner is present You can swipe left right on contact name to call/SMS I can view all contact names in SMS Did you replace these with AOSP alternative during installation. I did not choose it

Thanks.
OTA updates only depends on your ROM. Certain ROMs has OTA but if you are referring to stock ROM, then no. You can't. You can always download the latest firmware from Sammobile and flash via Odin.

hi guys, this may be stupid but i really don't seem to see any guide on checking for required stuff before flashing custom ROM, not even in the noobie guide. for instance like maybe need to check baseband version or whatnot. also have no idea on what's md5sum check or nandroid backup. really wanna try this but don't know if it is compatible. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915036

most (but i think all if not mistaken) custom ROM is all-in-all. You get baseband, radio, whatever in the ROM package. Just root the Note 2>>flash custom recovery>>flash custom rom.
Yes, Omega is compatible. I am (still) using the V14.

thanks for your answer. mine is already rooted, as it was as far as i dared to explore into. but i don't know how to flash custom recovery or what it means to begin with, and are the following steps accurate and in correct order? truth be told, i am kinda paranoid as i hard bricked my previous phone long time ago and til this very moment i still have absolutely no idea what went wrong back then. thanks in advance.

1. Download rom.
2. The rom you have downloaded should be in a .zip file ready for you to flash. DO NOT extract the file!
3. Connect your device to the PC (you do not need to turn it into download mode)
4. Copy the zip file into your INTERNAL sdcard (your phone storage), place it some where you can access it easily.
5. At this point make sure that your battery level is higher than 30% (i would recommend that it is fully charged or at least higher than half).
6. Reboot into CWM recovery [How? HOLD POWER+VOLUME UP+HOME]
7. If you are coming from stock rom or any other rom that is not the one that you will be flashing, you will need to make a full wipe!
8. DO A NANDROID BACKUP!=> go to backup and restore=>backup
9. Do a factory reset/data wipe
10. Wipe cache partition
11. advanced->wipe dalvik cache
12. Now it's time to flash the rom, to do this just select "install zip from sdcard" and then choose the .zip (your rom that you have downloaded) from you internal sdcard. ***Your rom that you have downloaded might use the aroma installer, just follow what it says and select what you would like to be installed.
13. DONE! *** first boot might take around 3-5 minutes, if you get a bootloop, try booting into recovery and do a full wipe and reflash the rom, if it still does not boot, go into recovery and restore from your NANDROID backup

You need more reading then before trying custom ROM .
my Note 2 replacement would probably be Note 3....and hopefully it comes with aluminium unibody and design.
Unibody doesn't mean it will be really any better. It's something you hold, which is liable to drops, as compared to those other unibody devices which remain on your desk.
Have you read post 6 and 7? Do you have any comments on those 2 posts after having read them? Post 8 too if you've digested enough.

hi guys, thanks for your concerns. i did read those, but i think the real problem is my ability in understanding them. even after reading those materials i still have no idea what goes where and where to start with. in the end i only get more confused. but again it is most probably just me being dumb lol. also i am doubtful with the steps in the noob guide in xda, like whether or not if they're accurate and whatnot.
Ok, you are totally incorrect. Don't ask what's wrong. Digest your comment thoroughly.
i assume u mean the launching on march 14 thing? if so, it is because i thought the launch alone will cause the price to drop, regardless of whether or not the phone is already here. maybe that assumption itself is a mistake or maybe there's some other mistakes i made too lol.

For starters, S4 is not launched yet. Even if it is, it is in a different category from Note2. So, if there is a drop in price of the latter, it is not due to the announcement/launch of the latest iteration of the Samsung S series.
hahaha...using note doesnt mean i'm the person hardworking in taking notes drawing yes, but i never do note with hp actually.
It's not for hardworking people, just like ts said, its convenient to take simple not than to get some paper to write on . The s-pen just extra spec for having note 2. Used it or not, the phobe still awesome .

oh i see, thanks for the info and sorry for my blunders.
Use TWRP recovery -it is listed in my link under rooting in post 7 ( update to Dr ketan method) TWRP is faster by 50% in backup n restore n all backupscin a single folder (easy maintenance) vs CWM split into 2 folders n you cannot identify your backup in the obb fokder

It is the simplest tool The toolkit is I always say a no brainier tool You just select n click what you want Seriously any primary school kid can even know how to use it Read it first. As long as you know how to use a PC n know how to type in your selection it is done for you. It is menu driven

The Tool is in post 7 step 2. I think you should digest Dr. Ketan's and/or Uncle Benny's documentation a bit more instead of rushing headlong into things.

I mentioned already use the app Mobile Odin to flash it. Open the app select recovery n browse to where you keep your recovery image file. Than select flash.

QUOTE(benny888 @ Apr 22 2013, 05:14 PM)
I mentioned already use the app Mobile Odin to flash it. Open the app select recovery n browse to where you keep your recovery image file. Than select flash.

you can still differentiate the difference anyway when you put s4 alongside note 2 one has clearer screen while the another has dull screen
and you get to play hd games and watch hd youtube/videos..haha
If PPI is so important for you, why S4 - buy instead the HTC One whose ppi is 469 , the highest of all smartphones to date Seriously, I dont see much significant difference between it and the Note 2 ,.I don't feel disappointed watching videos on Note 2 either. You are WRONG to say Note 2 has a dull screen - or should I say you use a wrong word . Text do appear better on the HTC One but than if you view the text closely . At normal viewing distance at , say about 10 inches away the difference is negligible Higher PPI only justify bragging rights if you own a higher PPI phone compared to others
You put it side by side and differentiate it? or just watch it from youtube?
Got many videos on youtube also when you search galaxy s4 vs note 2 but I think hands-on is better la of course

ppi is not important lor...after I read many reviews and comments, I think I will buy s4..coz of external storage, higher camera mp and I got butterfly liao why do i still need htc one
yup note 2 has dull screen when i put my full hd butterfly beside note 2...really got differences..
Not about bragging ppi lar...if i tell my mum s4 has higher ppi, she will be like, what is ppi son? lol

From Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1...now_about_apps/ They Don't Know About Apps This is, of course, purely anecdotal, but I work at a typical 9 to 5 job in a typical office with typical professional people. Of the five people I work with most closely, all of them have Android phones, ranging from barely above feature phone to OG Droids to GS3s and and One X level phones. Ages range from 25 to 42. Over time, I've come to realize that ZERO of them even knew there was a Google Play store where you could get more apps. None of them knew what their actual Google account name actually was, and no one but me uses their phone for anything that I've seen apart from camera, text/phone, Facebook. And these are not "dumb" people, or uneducated, or too old.
i'm using 4.1.2, build dmb4, so in the toolkit which build should i choose? build 14?
Any build is not going to brick your phone unless you suffer from PEBKAC. If you read post 6 properly, all those "Y" items can be swapped to whatever you wish.

yes i did, i just thought i have to get the exact same version as i am using now. i finally understand, thanks.
no, just downloaded toolkit, plan to start slowly, now removing kies installing drivers first, then i want to try stuff like backing up EFS, then flash twrp and try full backup. just want to make sure i successfully backup everything before i try any funny stuff.

twrp and nandroid backup are 2 different things? i thought they both do full backup? and crap, i have completed the drivers installation, and the serial key is supposed to appear above the main menu of the toolkit but the serial key is still not showing up.

Do nandroid back up using twrp, like uncle Benny mentioned b4, it more faster doing backup than cwm.

They have the same function to backup, but the file format is not compatible. You won't see the serial number unless you made a donation to the dev.
yeah already thought of using that, thanks. also, i think there should be a more elaborate explanation on nandroid backup, like a sample on approximately how big the backed up files would be, because my total filesize for the backup files is only 16mb. is that normal?

Just saw it on the Chinese news commentary about Iron Man 3. There will be an international version, and a CHINA version. I wasn't paying attention, but heard mention that FBB will play a nurse role. So I guess it could be a private nurse for Mr. Stark.
I'm sure we can enjoy the trailers on our Note 2 in HD mode
Maybe alex can get a re-enactment with his boss as a stand-in for FBB.....

Batt saving app you can try DSBS and Greenify
Data signal goes like this G < E < 3G < H < H+ H+ is way better than 3G. Data speed may vary depending on network congestion. Just because you are connected to the fastest network does not mean you will get max speed.
Hello v21, anyone here is using wechat?Any wakelock issue? Haih my phone stay awake all the time recently after installing the wechat...
I had the same issue with Wechat.. Charged full & went to bed. 6hrs later left 10%. WTF quickly uninstall. Totally rubbish app. Now back to normal again.

Wanna know if anyone here faced any issues with the MicroSD card draining your Note II battery badly? I bought a Sandisk class 10 32gb last Nov, all was good for the first few months until Feb this year whereby my Note II would keep on showing "card removed unexpectedly" and "preparing sd card" messages in the notification, sometimes it even says my card is damaged/corrupt and require a format, after numerous times of formatting the card as well as hard resetting my Note II, the problem always came back, most frustrating fact is that it keeps draining my battery like no tomorrow as my media scanner simply wont stop running and it's eating up most of the battery, my Note II wouldn't even last a day even in standby mode except for occasional phone calls.
So my question here is, do many of you use microsd cards in your Note II? and if any of you using Sandisk brand, do you faced such a problem before? is there any other more recommended brand for Note II in terms of external storage cards.
Just wanna know whether mine is an isolated case only, thanks!

Sandisk 64gb class10 user here... your problem is weird are your sandisk genuine? have you fully fill in 32gb data into it and read back as well as some w/r speed benchmark test? if all results good then u might as well check with other memory card... but from what you feedback it seem like you facing hardware connectivity issue then a visit to SC loh...

Typical known issue of Sandisk Class 10 card corrupted. Sandisk have acknowledge this problem. Go get a replacement and hope the new one is not defective.

You can safely delete all your files in internal memory. After you restart the phone, some basic folders/files will be rebuild back - don't touch these

sorry for disturbing you guys. i've asked a seller what the differences between AP set and SME set for note 2. the seller said, the only differences are warranty, firmware and of course the price.
about the firmware, the seller said, an AP unit will have firmware of a country or region where did the phone comes. an SME unit have firmware set for our country and region.
so, if i buy an AP set, can i reset it with firmware that SME unit using? thanks. and, will it void warranty?

Flashing firmware from a different region will void warranty You can flash any region firmware on your phone Check your present version first and download a copy of it first from sammobile.com/firmware. Than you can flash it back using Odin in PC if you wish to claim warranty

Just boot phone to recovery ( press simultaneously volup+home+power) and released all the 3 buttons once you see the second Samsung splash logo. You will see recovery menu Select backup from there - you can choose to rename backup, and its location in internal or external card Obviously you don't even know the very basics of how to boot into recovery asking this It just amaze me so many of users such as you who jump in doing stuffs without understanding all these basics. Just be careful before your phone gets brick - than it will be a panic time

i know how to go into recovery mode, just that i never go there before and don't know what's there. and besides, i only want to do backup now, which won't brick my phone. or maybe i am just too dumb to you that i would somehow miraculously brick my phone while doing backup. and either way, thanks for your instructions 'O Wise One.

If you don't try , how will you ever know what is inside recovery mode ??? You will not brick your phone doing any backup. Just make sure your phone is at least 50% charge And I am not wise ; I learn all my stuffs by trying ( I am not worried about bricking ) and through it have experienced soft brick and even hard brick before. I learn also by reading thoroughly all the user comments at XDA I am sorry you will not be able to find easily any source that will tell you A is for Apple, B for Boy and C is for Cat. You just need to try and experiment yourself
Hi, can anyone recommend a good shop or LYN seller that have good service for NoteII AP set? Found one at shop at SS15 subang jaya selling AP set for RM1555. Anyone bought there before? How about their warranty?
Maybe miloy2k can shed some light. His wife's unit needed a mobo replacement after updating to the latest firnware and the sc told him there were several units already with wifi issues after update.

See post 4 under scams. Hopefully 1650 is not counterfeit. Brotan, one of our recommended sellers who sells batteries, says he has seen many customers with counterfeits who paid around that price for a "Note 2".

Well the point of this forum is more of being a community, and we are not devs or hackers, although a lot of effort is made to respond to postings here. Page 1 contains info and links relevant to this device and where to find additional information. Most of the technical stuff links to XDA because that is the world's largest community for this sort of thing.
Uncle benny rarely gets annoyed and he has been kindly answering everyone in the LYN Android forums even though some people don't deserve any response.
Do please make an effort to educate yourselves for your own betterment. No malice meant.
UPDATE: All, so now that the Note 2 price has reduced enough, there seems to be a next wave of adopters coming in

UPDATE: All, so now that the Note 2 price has reduced enough, there seems to be a next wave of adopters coming in
but i manage to register it under sme wor. and the box comes with sme seal and the imei number matches.

Anyway, added a Recovery section to post 7 and also a link to how to make your own pre-rooted ROM in post 8. Doesn't sound to difficult if you have a linux box.

Don't know but you can check post 8 for Dr Ketan's revert to normal post and then let us know how it went.

How about this? Still waiting if anyone saw a good deal for new NoteII? I've been browsing around the web. The best deal actual by our trade enforcer Apis_LuaLua but due to too many thinking I lost the deal. He is selling new noteII for RM16xx. Just RM100 difference from my budget on SS15 shop which selling AP set for RM1555.

Set a budget in mind and allocate your fund as well . Once u see any deal within your price range , just grab it . Dont bother searching for another which might be RM10 cheaper . HP prices will drop eventually , u can save another RM10 but 1 month down , u will lose even more .
Hey guys, just a quick question. ..doe the original Samsung car charger provide the same output 2A as the wall plug chargers? How much does it cost per unit? Tq.
Eh, but I thought the dev rolled both products into Android Tuner Pro? How badly did BMW suck battery?
detail not really that much... only it's always at the top of the wakelock... but if you discover the wakelock not really all the time causing batt drain a lot... sometimes it's just simply wakelock...

High Performance Cortex-A devices provide a scalable range of power-efficient performance points for their target applications. Some illustrative examples are:
Cortex-A15 highest performance solutions for next generation mobile and demanding wireless infrastructure applications
Cortex-A7 implementations in standalone, multi-core configurations delivering 800 MHz - 1.2 GHz typical frequency, or in combination with Cortex-A15 for big.LITTLE processing
Cortex-A9 implementations delivering 800 MHz - 2 GHz typical frequency and delivering 5000 DMIPS of performance per core
Cortex-A8 single-core solutions that provide cost-effective high-performance from 600 MHz - 1 GHz delivering over 2000 DMIPs of performance
Cortex-A5 in low-cost implementations from 400- 800 MHz delivering over 1200 DMIPS of performance
Multicore Technology The Cortex-A5, Cortex-A7, Cortex-A9 and Cortex-A15 processors support ARM's second-generation multicore technologies
Single to quad-core implementation for performance orientated applications
Supports symmetric and asymmetric OS implementations
Coherency throughout the processor exported to system via Accelerator Coherency Port (ACP)
The Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A15 extend multi-core coherence beyond the 1~4 core cluster with AMBA4 ACE (AMBA Coherency Extension)

If it is flashed via Kies, and still modified, then you probably have to reboot a few times. Happens to some occasionally. Nobody knows why.

I read somewhere in xda, wiping data, cache and dalvik cache at recovery mode will fix the modified problem.

Thanks, before that i need to let you know, first page, post 12. The link for fonts lead to a topic on xda, and that topic has 2 links for downloading the font pack but both are dead. Now i just wander around looking for fonts through google lol.
Another stupid question, after i do data wipe, cache wipe, and dalvik cache wipe, everything's supposed to be gone including my data right? But my images songs videos and whatnot are still there. o.O

I want to introduce my application "Notifications Off" for controlling application notifications in a centralized way. Instead of toggling notifications for applications individually from the settings screen you can update the settings for all applications from one place. As the feature was introduced in Jelly Bean obviously it only supports Android 4.1 and up.
The app can also automatically disable notifications for new applications as soon as they are installed.
Keep in mind that root is required for the application.
Uncle, when hibernate the app d and I on it. It enters pending. Does this mean it will auto hibernate back after awhile or I nid hibernate manually again?

Found this from reddit, seems it is a java interface to the Play Store
For installing applications without Play Store, you can use Real APK Leecher and Airdroid. It is really simple, but you have to use your Google account and your phone's ID to download with RAL. However, you don't have to use your Google account on your phone.
Edit: I forgot to mention that RAL is completely legal. It downloads from Google's servers and you can't download any paid applications without buying. http://code.google.com/p/real-apk-leecher/

Data signal goes like this G < E < 3G < H < H+ H+ is way better than 3G. Data speed may vary depending on network congestion. Just because you are connected to the fastest network does not mean you will get max speed.
oh ok, bro mine is still under stock ROM.. so what would be the great battery saving apps ha..
just a quick note to say I m finally getting my firmware update via ota. mine is ap set - South African set. din bother to check samfirmware to see what version I'm gonna get.

thanks for the info bro, where u bought that microsd ? digital mall ? which shop ya... if force to H/H+ does it eats battery alot tuning the network ?
If you have bad coverage, you will have bad battery life coz the phone is always trying to establish a good connection. If you have good connection, then battery impact is negligible.
Best is not to install bad apps that suck battery, like Wechat, Viber and other China company apps usually.
Sadly in my experience dealing with software, yellow people tend to suck at coding good apps.

Full charge will result in a reset of battery awake hours. If it's not full then it will just continue adding up

Install BetterBatteryStats, and read the section on Wakelocks in post 8.
Nobody's stated anything amazing. You do know Samsung doesn't give changelogs.
You could try the Real APK Leecher I posted in the last page. Supposed to overcome geographic limitations.
Yeah I know there's always no changelogs. I'm already with the DMC3 since days ago but didn't notice anything different at all. So I thought I just asked if anybody felt any differences.

The dos age only warcraft, starcraft would need windows
Ah, Windows 95/98. There are images for that running in Bochs. I tried it and even ran Windows XP on my Note 1 last year. Slow as molasses though. Win 95/98 are supposed to run at an acceptable speed.

We still don’t know what hardware will be sported on the Galaxy Note 3, but rumor has it the phablet will come with a 5.9-inch full HD display, a 2 GHz next-gen CPU (probably the Exynos 5 Octa), 4 GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Of course, the S Pen stylus will come along too, and the device will most likely borrow some of the features of the Galaxy S4 such as S-Health, IR Blaster, Group Play and others. Also, there have been rumors that the Galaxy Note will pack a very impressive 4000 mAh battery, which would be great for intensive usage, not that the Galaxy Note 2 doesn’t have a good battery life.
got 4gb of ram to burn and 4k mah battery I might as well save the money for note 3 instead of s4 and htc one
There's 2 things I planning to get this year: Nexus 4 and iPad5.
If the Note 3 packs such monster specs then byebye N4.
Why get Nexus 4 when you already have a Note 2? And if you get a Note 3 with at least 5.9", you won't be using any other device as much, I can tell you.
I just installed the mods from XDA-wesamothman and changed my modem to DLK5, and installed the Kernel changer as well to Adam 2.2.1 let's see how things go
any opinions on which rom gives best battery life? planning to try few roms on my own, including android revolution hd, dualnote, hawkish, and emotionmiui.

Tonight swap perseus and try. I was reading the devil changelog which said it didn't have exfat, and devil is a perseus derivative.
devil failed to implement the exfat support, the reason is unknown but i do suspect it's due to the AOSP support on the devil that causing the exfat module failed to be implemented...

Yeah its due to the dual rom support of the kernel. If he separate his kernel like redpill then it should be fine.

Yes, yes, you now wield unparalleled power in your hands and may bash all other phones into submission with the ever shining (battery) light of Eärendil, when the rest shall fall by the wayside.
Thanks for kind welcome andrew . So long it's better than my previous s3 should be good enough for me Still trying to figure out the phone. Bit disappointed that it doesn't come with signature unlock though.

I'd say this is quite a bit better than the S3 due to 2Gb RAM and the S-Pen. Its usability should last another 2 years at least.
Did you play music or videos or use MXPlayer? I get this after watching video.
I use ttpod to listen to music and n I dont have mx player. The only videos I have is the ones I recorded and one my friend sent me. Can that be issue?

Use another launcher. If you still wanna use TW yes you can change it but its complicated. And seeing your previous "experience" with rooting, backup and rom flashing i dun really wanna dwell into it.

hooh888 don't worry we've all had some bricking experience before.
Oh its easy to just replace the icon in the chrome apk itself either on the PC or use vrtheme. Its just complicated to explain. OK i admit i am lazy to explain it.

thanks for your concerns. lol it's ok as i'm in the midst of searching for possible methods. also, i hard bricked my galaxy ace before long time ago due to flashing wrong custom rom which got me paranoid. but i sent to samsung since warranty still there and they somehow fixed it (of course need to make up some story saying don't know why the phone couldn't turn on all of a sudden and my alarm didn't even ring and i got late to work and bla bla bla).

Another test with DragonDictate Voice recognition is bad Voice recognition is good Voice recognition over the Bluetooth is bad I am typing this with swipe I am typing this with swipe voice recognition It seems to be working really well Worth $.99
The last few posts by me were "typed" using the Dragon Dictate key on Swype. The first 3 were while I was on a bluetooth headset, which is why it sucked. Once I switched it off, the recognition rate went up and I didn't have to spit out my words individually so much.
Pretty good I'd say. Anyone else has tried the Google typing ? S-voice didn't have very good recognition either.

yea i assume the warning for low memory is calculated by percentage, since 300mb remaining is considered small out of 16gb. i sense that i am gonna get fired for this comment lol.
also, anyone can suggest good protective case like otterbox defender but one that comes with much cheaper price?

Why are you so negative
There's the counterfeit otterbox defender or other variants. aspire2oo6 had some tough cases he wanted to bring in but I don't know if he did.
i see, but is the counterfeit even nearly as tough as the original?
The unfortunate thing is that no one has made a test but considering it has the thick silicone and some kind of polycarbonate shell, it should probably stand up to some punishment.

Doesn't seem to recognise the word "Swype" very well. But overall very good keyboard and super smooth. Just bought it too.

actually if there's a water resistant one and doesn't make me look like i put my phone in some sort of plastic bag, then i won't mind paying more. i changed from ace to s3 because the ace took too many drops and somehow the screen cacat, then from s3 to note 2 because my s3 decided to take diving lessons in a pail of water. so i am not just inexperienced, but clumsy as well lol.

The internal storage is 10Gb free. You managed to fill it up till it remains 300mb....so you have to perform some housekeeping.
Samsung is able to charge the S4's battery faster with its original charger since it implements the Qualcomm Quick Charge.
Excerpt: The non-linear nature of Quick Charge significantly shortens charge time, particularly in the very early stages of charging when the device's battery is presumably fully discharged.

Hahaha i dont see what u see at all. I love the angular shapes. I got all the other cases d and am bored with curves. I want something with sharp edges. Currently im using this on my phone.

Yes I remember you showing that earlier. Nice, but why despoil the design to imitate something it is evidently not? I don't like fancy curves either and prefer regular geometric shapes that don't get in your way or are not stackable.
