hi guys, this may be stupid but i really don't seem to see any guide on checking for required stuff before flashing custom ROM, not even in the noobie guide. for instance like maybe need to check baseband version or whatnot. also have no idea on what's md5sum check or nandroid backup. really wanna try this but don't know if it is compatible. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915036

most (but i think all if not mistaken) custom ROM is all-in-all.  You get baseband, radio, whatever in the ROM package.  Just root the Note 2>>flash custom recovery>>flash custom rom.

Yes, Omega is compatible.  I am (still) using the V14.  biggrin.gif

thanks for your answer. mine is already rooted, as it was as far as i dared to explore into. but i don't know how to flash custom recovery or what it means to begin with, and are the following steps accurate and in correct order? truth be told, i am kinda paranoid as i hard bricked my previous phone long time ago and til this very moment i still have absolutely no idea what went wrong back then. thanks in advance.

Have you read post 6 and 7? Do you have any comments on those 2 posts after having read them?
Post 8 too if you've digested enough.
*
QUOTE(jakgelap @ Apr 22 2013, 04:18 PM)
You can search at 1st page. There should be link for that stuff or go to xda forum in note 2 sub forum
*
hi guys, thanks for your concerns. i did read those, but i think the real problem is my ability in understanding them. even after reading those materials i still have no idea what goes where and where to start with. in the end i only get more confused. but again it is most probably just me being dumb lol. also i am doubtful with the steps in the noob guide in xda, like whether or not if they're accurate and whatnot.

Ok, you are totally incorrect. Don't ask what's wrong. Digest your comment thoroughly.
*
i assume u mean the launching on march 14 thing? if so, it is because i thought the launch alone will cause the price to drop, regardless of whether or not the phone is already here. maybe that assumption itself is a mistake or maybe there's some other mistakes i made too lol.

Have you used odin pc to flash your samsung android phone? How did you root your phone? smile.gif
*
yes i rooted it using odin, followed the first method mentioned here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055827

p.s.: that also means no cwmrecovery.

For starters, S4 is not launched yet. Even if it is, it is in a different category from Note2. So, if there is a drop in price of the latter, it is not due to the announcement/launch of the latest iteration of the Samsung S series.
*
oh i see, thanks for the info and sorry for my blunders. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(sklchan @ Apr 22 2013, 05:01 PM)
i don't recall seeing a link for this, and also, it looks too complicated. but anyways, i can still use this even if my device is already rooted?

Use TWRP recovery  -it is listed in my link under rooting in post 7 ( update to Dr ketan method)
TWRP is faster by 50% in backup n restore n all backupscin a single folder (easy maintenance) vs CWM split into 2 folders n you cannot identify your backup in the obb fokder
*
just downloaded from your link, version 2.5.0.1. now i am wondering what do i do with the file, use the same way i rooted it before? so blur and confused now.

Have you try to read it. Complicated?? It is the simplest tool
The toolkit is I always say a no brainier tool
You just select n click what you want
Seriously any primary school kid can even know how to use it
Read it first. As long as you know how to use a PC n know how to type in your selection it is done for you. It is menu driven
*
QUOTE(joytest @ Apr 22 2013, 05:14 PM)
The Tool is in post 7 step 2. I think you should digest Dr. Ketan's and/or Uncle Benny's documentation a bit more instead of rushing headlong into things.
*
QUOTE(benny888 @ Apr 22 2013, 05:14 PM)
I mentioned already use the app Mobile Odin to flash it. Open the app select recovery n browse to where you keep your recovery image file. Than select flash.

*
Sorry for the trouble I caused and thanks for helping regardless, will read more while i stick with stock ROM first then.

Any build is not going to brick your phone unless you suffer from PEBKAC. If you read post 6 properly, all those "Y" items can be swapped to whatever you wish.
*
yes i did, i just thought i have to get the exact same version as i am using now. i finally understand, thanks.

Still trying to install custom recovery cwm?twrp?
*
no, just downloaded toolkit, plan to start slowly, now removing kies installing drivers first, then i want to try stuff like backing up EFS, then flash twrp and try full backup. just want to make sure i successfully backup everything before i try any funny stuff.

twrp and nandroid backup are 2 different things? i thought they both do full backup? and crap, i have completed the drivers installation, and the serial key is supposed to appear above the main menu of the toolkit but the serial key is still not showing up.

Do nandroid back up using twrp, like uncle Benny mentioned b4, it more faster doing backup than cwm.
*
yeah he did mention it and i intend to do just that.

QUOTE(joytest @ Apr 22 2013, 11:00 PM)
They have the same function to backup, but the file format is not compatible. You won't see the serial number unless you made a donation to the dev.
*
yeap, now using odin to flash insecure boot image. was asked to do this when i chose twrp nandroid backup from the menu.

Seems he removed it.

From a forum search:

The easiest way to backup your efs partition is using TWRP Recovery and selecting it from the backup options.
*
well i did the twrp nandroid backup via the toolkit, and i assume efs is not included, so i still need to flash the twrp rom to do that?

TWRP is a RECOVERY, not a ROM. You can backup EFS via a TWRP option.

How about this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922473
*
yeah already thought of using that, thanks. also, i think there should be a more elaborate explanation on nandroid backup, like a sample on approximately how big the backed up files would be, because my total filesize for the backup files is only 16mb. is that normal?

A full nandroid on Note 2 is 1gb+++

That size indicates probably an EFS backup.
*
i see, guess i won't be using the toolkit to do twrp nandroid backup then, will do it separately like i did for efs.
