What job? For posting those two sentences???
Took me 10 minutes to figure out how to do them properly. I think I'm sticking with physical work like washing my car(s) and leave all these 'tech' stuffs to you guys la..... Anyway. Just hope this one would 'prosper' much like its predecessor..... This post has been edited by KrisMas: Feb 27 2013, 10:41 AM |

i like my car to be either very clean, like showroom condition clean, or be dirty and i do mean really dirty like it just went through mudroads.
since the latter is easy to achieve i usually just keep it that way LOL |

mini-guide on watermarked/blurry windscreens courtesy from krismas and other forumers who provided tip on v1 thread previously:
oh prior to the singapore trip with family, the 4 to 5 hours of detailing work on the nissan sentra totally paid off: rained all the way back from singapore to KL Malaysia, and the windscreen/windows /side mirrors was repelling water splendidly! barely need to turn on the wiper at all as the wind from the car's speed is enough to repel most, if not all of the rain. method - full car wash (including rim scrubbing lol, might as well right?) - using foam pad + tooth paste and slowly scrub the windscreen - after water rinse/wash, microfiber cloth + vinegar slowly wipe/scrub the windscreen > water rinse/wash again (at this point you'll notice water is beginning to sheet off properly - some light claying using only water as lube - microfiber cloth + apply/wipe around the windscreen with turtle wax glass cleaner, let dry then microfiber cloth to buff/remove residues (you can start to use hand/plastic bag test to feel on the windscreen) - last step = apply rain x with microfiber cloth, let dry/cure and buff/remove residue x2 result = water hates your windscreen now oh and rain x water beading result is quite pretty too lolz sorry no pics since was speeding and family's safety is a priority (yes i know that isn't saying much since i was speeding btw thread pinned |

WOW...AG EGP..??!! I haven't seen that being used (or rather posted on-line locally) for a loooooonggg time.....
But....errr....isn't EGP for protection (sealant)? SRP is the one for swirls right? Or did you use something else for them? |

Haha, the EGP is for protection only. I used Osren perfect cut 2.0 polish with lc orange pad, followed by white pad to refine it.
Btw, I've been trying to used up the EGP. About time to try something else as lsp |

Nice one Quazacolt.
Been using RainX for ages now and can't seem to find any other product that works as well and as economical (value for money) on front windscreen. There are now 'coatings' for glass but they are so d*** expensive and just not economical to use. I'm currently testing Aquapel. It's still beading on my front windscreen after 6 months but, even when freshly applied, it still can't beat the way RainX 'scares' water away, even at low speed (50km/h ~ 60km/h). |

ehehe.. guys, i'm still kinda noobie in terms of detailing, hence still have several questions on the following:
1) Ultimate Polish The instructions say to work the product into the paint and not allow it to dry. My question is, how long do i need to work the product if i'm not removing any minor swirls? 2) Ultimate Liquid Wax I'm been somewhat lazy, the instructions recommend 2 coats of the product but so far i've only been applying one.. all help is most appreciated |

Only if I see much dirt settling on the surface (more worried on horizontal then vertical surfaces). Or else I'd just go lightly with a *very* plush mf before layering....panel by panel. |

one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb whenever i wash my car now is the blardy stone chips!!! even though you need to really scrutinize to see them, it still irritates the shit out of me.. have a lot of it on my front bumper and bonnet.
grrr... any recommendations other than respraying? my car is only coming to 3 months old. i travel back to ipoh every weekend and the North South Highway seems to be the main culprit here.. |

Not much different from NXT except (maybe) a little bit less cleaner in it. No problem applying by hand. Haven't really used it with a machine (rotary)...only had used it with my bosch ROB. And yeah.....durability (beading) sucks.....

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Mar 5 2013, 05:42 PM) isn't the 101 a compound?? does it work better than the 205 in terms of polishing? By hand, M101 can do both....can finish just as nice....btw, seems like the M21 doesn't look that promising. I think i better stick to my ULW. What sealants are you using, if you dont mind me asking Haven't been using any sealant for quite a while now....MUAHAHAHA..... oh...but if you're looking for a good sealant...you might wanna try Menz Power Lock..... Anyone here use rm1.50 plasticine as clay bar ? I try on my 2 years repainted car last weekend with dis washing liquid, dry, follow by meg synthetic n quick shine. I hv not try meg clay bar but I did try perma clay bar. Not a pro but to me it's the same. I always lazy skip this clay bar and head for polish but than the cloth becomes real dirty. Well the above after applying meg synthetic, cloth comes clean.... Happy with it.

QUOTE(KrisMas @ Mar 6 2013, 09:59 AM) ehehe.. that will be another challenge for me.. but not now.. not enough kung fu skill yet.. i'm actually trying to speed up my current processes. As of now, a normal maintenance wash (with detailer or wax topper) for me takes about 2-3 hours (the latter if I'm scrubbing and waxing my wheels). If its with claying + waxing that will take about 1 hour more. If i'm doing polishing that will definitely add about 1.5 hours. Interior cleaning and applying protectants will definitely take about 1.5 hours. lucky i dont have to do everything every single week maybe i should invest in a DA polisher to speed up my waxing/polishing process. I noticed that the descriptions says: "New Dynamo Complete provides superior tough stain removal better than ordinary detergent + stain remover + whitener + brightener, keeping your clothes Clean Like New even after 10 washes" the whitener is not good for MFs right? beginning to notice that my MF is a little less 'bouncy' now.. sigh.. is it dead? |

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Mar 8 2013, 03:34 PM) eh i think it isnt that vital for grit guard to fit perfectly? because it is to prevent your cloth from reaching (or stirring the water enough for the dirt to rise instead) the dirt that sinks underneath where without, one may do so by accidentso long the bucket isn't in some odd shape and has the minimal gallon amount that grit guard specifies, i think it should be fine |

anyone here using permanon? or duragloss?
it might just be me missing something when prepping the surface but permanon just wont last above 1 month or whatever duration it is sealant last (3months i think) after it finishes though im gonna try duragloss! any good reviews on the sealant and car wash? because before permanon im using megs ultimate range. altho due to its easy application, permanon is quite nice. wash clay seal in just over an hour |

I realize, the cleaner your car is, the more noticeable the dust sticking to your car.
I've just opti-seal-ed and wax my car. Feel so clean and shinny now, of course minus the swirl. This post has been edited by MyWifeCar: Mar 15 2013, 12:54 PM |

Where is the best place to do this? Heard it is few hundred ringgit for a good 3 layered polish n wax. |

Yup, I didn't get a very nice water beading effect. But water beading not really good lar, might have water spot issue too.anyway, we're in the same boat la.. Home minister grumble that i sayang my metal mistress more than her.. It was my method of cleaning that was the problem, also was rushing that time... Wifey grumble already. Now practice more and more, and also consult other experience otai-otai, then getting hang of it already. Actually you don't really need water beading, if you are doing regular cleaning. Just that if you have it on the mirror, then it will protect your wiper too. I like krismas method on cleaning the windscreen, that really works. I don't do that. I only wash->clay->IPA???->Turtle Rain protect, I mean on the windscreen only. |

The training facility basically is at our Detailien Hive in Sunway Damansara, about when to organize, that is obviously up to KC. |

I washed and dried my car, and then it rains!!!
After the rain i decided to dry the car again. When i wiped off the water i noticed my microfiber had some black water/dust!! I was like WTH!! The car was cleaned before it rained. Where did the dust /dirt come from? From the rain obviously. This shows how dirty rain can be. |

When i wiped off the water i noticed my microfiber had some black water/dust!! I was like WTH!! The car was cleaned before it rained. Where did the dust /dirt come from? From the rain obviously. This shows how dirty rain can be. I've learned to live with it and let it be unless I have the time to do a quick wash (with shampoo). A simple rinse with water alone would yield the result like you had - quite risky. The non-rinsing wash method is a no-go for me as I don't like the polymer that they leave behind. Oh what we would do keep those swirls away.....hahahaha.... |

I'm a cheapskate so I just buy stuffs and do myself, although it's cheaper (?) this way but a lot more tiring (but compensated by the satisfactions). I only know of a couple (?) of places doing this locally...maybe around 2k or so, and that's a BIG maybe. On its own, maybe can last a couple of months or so. Can also be diluted or 'wax-on-wet' as they say, for topping up once in a while. if u know what i'm saying, else just forget about it haha 2k???? can repaint already |

If the prices there are with shipping i would say that its very very reasonable. |

Haven't tried that one before though...just my presumptions based on what UQD can do to other waxes/sealants.I bought a few stuffs from them before, including my CQuartz and a couple of bottles of ReLoad (to name a few....heheh). I can't say I would vouch for him but I had known the owner for quite a few years already and met him personally on a number of occasions. You can COD with him cuz he's around Klang Valley. Doesn't seem to have ReLoad in stock though..... There is another place that I found in fb...sort of the 'Authorised' CarPro dealer...but the page is quite dormat....I think they're based in Penang.... |

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Mar 19 2013, 09:46 AM) How did you use it previously? Did you dilute it until it became a QD? or just spray on once and then normal weekly washes? After a wash, I just sheet most of the water off, then spray on and spread, wipe and buff with a dry mf after leaving it briefly to dry a little. Two half-sprays for the size of a door panel. I use OCWax and other spray waxes/sealants the same way. Having *some* water on the surface seemed to produce less streaking on my burgundy waja....oh ya, i remembered your posting on the ROB. eheheh hey maybe i dont need to spend that much anyway.. guys, i might be going to the UK in a months time. business trip. was thinking whether to get the G220v2 there
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-Dual-Acti...63932344&sr=8-1 with the 7" Polishing and Finishing pad its about RM804! more than half the price of what is being sold in MY. granted there might be some issue with warranty but seems like a pretty good deal, no? ...in the mean time, maybe you should try to find somebody who has one to try out. Doesn't necessarily need to be the G220, any DA would do. The reason being, some people just don't like or just can't take it's vibration...like yours trully. Just a suggestion....
oh...and you also better check whether the price included VAT or not.....just in case.... This post has been edited by KrisMas: Mar 22 2013, 03:31 PM |

Wheel cleaners would kill most waxes/sealants...have to live with that. Spray type waxes/sealants would be better....just for convenience sake as it's easy to apply them after a wash. Coatings...well...I've only tried AQuartz on them before and it only lasted ~ 3 months. But mind you AQuartz doesn't really excel in durability. Been neglecting my wheels afterwards ever since...well....long story. Nowadays I just try to keep them clean....

'exotic'...??? hehehe....a little bit difficult to get hold of..yes...but 'exotic'...I'm not sure about that. Swissvax, Zymol, Polish Angels, etc....those are exotics. What I have are just 'normal' stuffs la. You should see what the others got in their closet....hahahaha.
I found most of them just like other people do....google. That plus a little bit more of passion and persistance (in other word, I guess you can call it 'luck'). If you think you're ready for them, I can hook you up. We are here to share what we know...right? |

krismas open clinic I also want to join...
BTW, after I washed and 1 round of claying... I can see from reflection big patches of "dried glue" look a like layer on the front hood. What is that? And why can't my clay remove it? I have to use OPC and rub it harder with my MF. Last last I used Hyper Compound with BigFoot to get ride of the "stain". |

Some times water etchings can also look something like what you described....something like the pic below, but imagine just the edges without the whitish inside (like when you stick a thin plastic onto something, you can see the edges but the rest are transparent). ![]() |

Picture would be nice...maybe you can capture those patches with 'proper' camera and lighting or something....Mine is more like the tree sap things, but patches and patches. But I do managed to remove it using OHC, and my pad from Rupes is torn like what you have shown previously. Owh....so Bigfoot got a chuck of your pad as well eh....? I've narrowed it down to 3 most possible cause: 1. Overheating of the pad due to dampness (I mean the whole pad is damp, like after wash and spin dry only....) 2. Too much pressure (remember NO PRESSURE at all when using the Bigfoot) 3. Tilting the pad while polishing or when polishing curvy panels (though this only applies to non-rupes pad whereby the velcro portion is larger than the backing plate) The last two most probably happen because the edge of the backing plate 'eating' into the back of the pad while it's spinning/oscillating.....just a little un-sceintific observations..... |

I've never really met up with the "group"before, I'm still active, just, less time/effort spent on it these days, looks like I have G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) these days instead QUOTE(ir5 @ Mar 26 2013, 06:03 PM) hi, A very good car wash is one where you DIY, well, that's really on a serious note, most "centres" are "mass production houses" where the main priority is to get the most customers in a day, and no matter how highly rated they seemed to be, I still feel most are sub-par, maybe I set my own level a little too high considering I do all my cars myself. Rinseless washes are pretty common these days, even if you live in a condo/apartment, as long as you have a roof over the car, it's pretty easy to do, and when you're getting good at it, 30 minutes is what it takes to wash and wax it.i have difficulties to find a very good car wash centre here in KL...do you guys have any good car wash recommendation? Looking near area Bukit Jalil and Gasing Indah area nearby.... Appreciate your sharing... QUOTE(acefreakz @ Mar 26 2013, 06:16 PM) Ace Hardware should have the Bosch Random Orbital Sander, You'll need to look for the AE version which provides variable speed. Current model is GEX-125AE if not mistaken. In fact, you could try hardware shops, probably give you a better offer. I would skip the Black & Decker unless you can get a used one for dirt cheap and modify it's backing plate. I've tried doing that(long ago when I got started), but still felt it's not really worth the hassle. Technological improvement to polishing liquids and pads these days have brought new life to hobbyist just armed with a ROB.There's also an alternative, though, I hadn't tried it so I can't really comment on it. There's a local paint brand that goes by the name of "Aikka" that has their tools reasonably priced, last I checked, the Dual Action they are selling is around RM400-450, just slightly more than the Bosch which costs around RM350. I was really being a little bit cynical there...since you did only mention waxing...cuz that's all the B&D is really useful for. But then, you can't really expect it to do much at that specifications and price tag.And bro GRexer is right, if you think you would be able to maintain the passion (or even would consider getting to a little higher level of doing some mild corrections) and don't mind spending a little more $$$, the Bosch 'AE' model random orbital would be a much better choice. You'd have more options for 'upgrades' in terms of compounds/polishes and buffing pads. A Dual Action (DA) would be another step higher than the Bosch, with more power and capabilities while retaining the 'safety' of a random orbital. 'Aikka' has a China made DA which is little lesser in term of quality as compared to the 'branded' ones, but it's still 'workable' (but not sure about it's reliability though cuz only tried it once and that is at a dealer's place). A 'branded' DA would cost around RM750 ~ RM850 (excluding the local G220v2 which is in four figures range). I think you've already strike the rotary out of your mind so I don't think I'd need to say anything about that. Just one last word, although not as good, a cheap machine would work if you don't really plan to go dead serious or particular about it (unlike some of the crazy people here.... oh...and ACE Hardware got both the Bosch and B&D. |

"Good" in term of my expectation is their servicing and particular about the details (e.g. dirt/stain on the rims)....most of the car wash center just do so-so when washing the car...just simply wipes thru the snow bubbles...not even trying to remove any stubborn dirt on the car body...plus, i'm kinda frustrated when they just simply climb and step on the tyres to swipe the roof top of my MPV... Do you have any good/reliable car wash recommendation near bukit jalil or gasing indah area? |

OMG...you didn't say you have a LORRY!!! If you're really dead serious, that is DEFINITELY a job for a DA man.
Ok la...maybe the Bosch with some choice of good quality pads and polishes would do if you're on a budget. But, if not, I DEFINITELY would recommend you to consider the Rupes Bigfoot.... Oh...AH only have the Bosch and the B&D, no DA there. And, again, GRexer is right, forget about the B&D. Personally, it's not worth in my book if you're serious. |

It really is just the motor, but it's better to have a more powerful motor than a lesser one, especially when we apply pressure on the machine, a lesser motor will definitely bog down(slow down) much faster than a powerful motor.
I reckon the $$$ saved on the DAS-6 is not really worth it unless you're only planning on polishing/glazing/waxing, don't think it'll be good enough if you need to do any compounding(removing serious defects). |

Personally, a kit with pads/polishes sounds like a better deal like the Menzerna one, costs only RM120 and you get pads and liquids, in Malaysia itself, RM120 would only get you pads and not liquids. Too bad the Hydrotech kit is out of stock coz I think that's a more complete set.
Basically, for a simple kit, you'll need at least 1 cutting pad, 2 polishing pads, 1 finishing pad, and also well, if you want, another pad for applying sealant/wax. That's the bare minimum in my opinion, although that would also mean you would need to clear your pads more when "on the job" but if you're not detailing for money, it's not an issue since time is essence if you're detailing for money. |

Not trying to sound harsh, but I have to borrow from Drex Chan
![]() CARS International is, cheap and fast, no, wait, they ain't exactly cheap coz I remember they needed some kind of membership thing. Unfortunately, like you had already mentioned earlier on, most of the car wash centres are just "so-so", I'm seriously not quite sure who to go to around your area, unless you want to try one of them mobile detailers, which, of course, you need to let them know it's a MPV and a ladder's necessary. Personally, I don't wash my truck myself coz it's too much hassle and, oh well, it's a company ride. |

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Mar 28 2013, 04:10 PM) bro, am going there in May for business trip Oh...ya lor. Forgot about that. Then may I suggest something. Buy online and find a local address over there where you can ship it to and pick it up when you're there. Then you'd be exempted from VAT and only need to pay £96.....even cheaper eh.... |

Sorry to interrupt a bit, I have got one Mother's Fender Brush and one Mother's Tire Brush to let go... Used once only, gotta let go cause I find it difficult for the fender brush to work.

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Mar 29 2013, 02:33 PM) ermm.. i thought UK has to pay VAT? i could try to claim it back at the airport though.. UK got VAT but only for local residents there...non-residents/foreigners are exempted. You can either straight away get the exemption from VAT when buying goods at the shop by filling some forms at the cashier and let the shopkeeper handle everything or, you can also claim back the VAT charges at the customs at the airport, but that means you would need to show them the original receipts AND products bought there. If I'm not mistaken, they also have a limit of the amount that can be issued at the airport. But this was around 5 years back la...don't know if they change already..... |

Oh...and when I bought online from there (also a couple of times), I wasn't charged VAT, but that saving would normally go to shipping charges.....

Don't have to claim...their price would be already without the VAT when they charge you. If you notice my post, it's the same one that I got from the link you posted. When I choose Malaysia in the shipping estimate, they deducted the VAT and became £96. The price will hold as long as the billing address (origin) or, in this case, credit card issuer is foreign. They might charge shipping when you want to sent to local address, but that would be minimal (and sometime free depending on the amount you purchased).
For shipping to a hotel, it might be a good idea to email/ask them first. For some reason, some retailer don't sent to hotels (or some hotel won't accept them). |

LOL...you know you're not suppose to, but you had to don't you...???
Most coating would have that 'smell'...some stronger than others....some less. In general, it shows how much of the content is solvent and how much is the actual 'coating'. The 22 smells the least solventy.... |

Sorry bro, I haven't clocked anough time with a DA to have any firm idea which pads are better and, no, they're not the same. I also haven't got any menz or sonus pads. But with my Bosch ROB, I kinda like the 3M green, sonax and LC Hydro (if I'm not mistaken it's similar to constant pressure pads) pads. But I know one thing though, the 5" ~ 5.5" (150mm ~ 160mm) feels better. Maybe GRexer or somebody else can help out.

Thanks for your suggestion , anyone here using protection film ? I don't think there's any PERMANENT solution in preventing yellowing...it is plastic after all. What you can do is to prevent the plastic to decay PREMATURELY. You can do this by regular washing/cleaning and puting on a layer of temporary protection over it. This can be in the form of sealant (like the one mav3rick posted), wax, coating, protective film, etc. Protective films are also a form of plastic and they would also turn yellow after some time, even the 3M VentureShield. But at least you can just replace the film instead of the headlamps. Is this product selling in Parkson ? |

Normally, if there's a holiday coming, I'd take extra leave for one or two days so that I'd have longer weekends to balik kampung. So, normally, if there's a holiday I won't be around. But since Labour Day is right smack in the middle of the week, and the kids have school before and after, if take holiday also just stay at home...so no point la. Meaning....I'll be around and, if nothing comes up, I should be able to join in.....

(dunno why LYN removing http: for post links now, added inconvenience and that method is mainly for really dirty windscreens, id reckon if your windscreen isn't having water sticking on it badly you can just apply normally, at least rain-x themselves have never mentioned any special application methods |

I bought PG's polymer sealant like yesterday and had it applied on the front section of my abah's car. It says not to apply wax on it, but internet searches tell me that it should be fine to do so

I would say stay away from the Skil unit as it doesn't have soft start. There's a Chinese Made rotary by a local company called Aikka that looks pretty decent. It's going for rm300-350 and has soft start, though the trigger is a little stiff. Never really used it for a job so I can't really comment on it performance wise. Only test it out free hand while window shopping at my supplier.

I am really amazed by some query, someone would spend money to do coating and then ask me if it is fine to send outside car wash? If you really cared that much, you would not ask if it is fine no? No matter you send tepi japan bawah pokok or premium outlet, no one will wash and care your car that much other than yourself.

I don't think it is "very thin". Because I can still see some scratches, which I cannot remove using whatever left that I have. |

I got those on my waja bonnet already....they came out after a couple of rounds of sanding (and quite a few rounds of polishings) since I do most of my 'live tests' on my waja bonnet.

arghh.. feeling the full effect today. I had another 7 hour elbow greasing session yesterday....
1) scrubbed the rims 2) Washed the car (Nxt Wash) 3) Clay bar-ed (Meg's Claybar with QD) 4) Polished (Ultimate Polish) 5) Wax (Ultimate Liquid Wax) am wondering if it is possible to split the work to a couple of day. really do not have the energy. my right arm felt like dropping off when i was buffing off the wax.. anyway, i think i had better shine this time, because i really took time to work the polish in, and ensure that both polish and waxes are buffed off properly. However, i still didnt get the mirror like shine due to the orange peel, but the reflections are better than my first attempt (or at least that's what i like to think anyway, found a bit of infor in MO, so for those using Meg's stuff, maybe this will be helpful to you. http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showt...different-waxes seems that ULW have some polishing oils in it, so i did not bother putting on a 2nd later. maybe i can skip the Ultimate Polish completely anyway, not sure if i can afford another 7 hour session in 4 months time. let's see if the machines are able to help me out.. p/s noobie question: is it possible to overbuff with a microfibre and remove LSP? |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Suggest after #3, do IPA wipe down. "...IPA = Isopropyl alcohol. Usually mixed with (distilled) water and used to wipe the car down after a polishing session to check that the polish oils/residue haven't filled any defects. Best to check this before applying LSP as it shows the true correction - otherwise you can get "drop back" where although the surface looks defect free immediately after polishing, the defects haven't fully been removed and re-reveal themselves after a short time..." This way, your wax will last longer. I tried, it lasted 2 weeks more. For example, this one : http://www.duragloss.com/Marine-R-V-Produc...ine---RV-Polish This post has been edited by MyWifeCar: Apr 8 2013, 10:27 PM |

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Apr 9 2013, 09:39 AM) ok, what do you do about the dust particles that gather after leaving your car for a night? do you wife them off with a quik detailer or something like that? I'd just spray water on the surface and wipe it dry. I don't normally wash the entire car though if I'm doing it section by section. I usually wash it by sections if I'm not planning to finish everything in a day. |

QUOTE(avanray @ Apr 8 2013, 04:15 PM) for plastic part like our plate number we can polish also to make it shine and blacker? sori noob here.. Yes, of course. For starter, better use polishes dedicated for plastic la. You're definitely more OCD than me man. I tried it once before and gave up and just do cincai2 after half way...polishing in between those letters and numbers are a PITA. Need a Dremel......QUOTE(jacky187 @ Apr 8 2013, 06:05 PM) Hi, You should be fine with Meguiars....or other well established brands like 3M, Duragloss, Mothers, etc. Or if you're on a budget you can start with Soft99.Would like to ask what wax is good for a new car, white color ? Is Meguiar's good ? Thanks in advance p/s: noob in this area need guide QUOTE(mav3rick @ Apr 8 2013, 06:09 PM) am wondering if it is possible to split the work to a couple of day. really do not have the energy. my right arm felt like dropping off when i was buffing off the wax.. Instead of splitting into days, why not do (and complete) one or two panels at a time...or divide the car into sections like, front, mid, roof and back, so you can stop any time you want. I normally do that unless I have the whole weekends to myself. But, most of the time, it'll be months before I'd start the other panels/sections....heheheQUOTE(mav3rick @ Apr 8 2013, 06:09 PM) seems that ULW have some polishing oils in it, so i did not bother putting on a 2nd later. maybe i can skip the Ultimate Polish completely Not sure about ULW. But NXT is said to have some also. But it's very very mild...more like a cleaner/glaze (filler) than polish. If you're thinking of removing some minor swirls with it, then forget it la. Cleaning up and give a little shine...maybe, but removing some mild defects...I don't think so.QUOTE(mav3rick @ Apr 8 2013, 06:09 PM) p/s noobie question: is it possible to overbuff with a microfibre and remove LSP? Good plan.QUOTE(redhatlinux @ Apr 9 2013, 08:43 AM) how to maintain shine & protection after doing a polish work? Practice on PROPER washing method.QUOTE(mav3rick @ Apr 9 2013, 09:39 AM) thanks for the tip. but wouldn't the IPA also remove any good work done from step 4? After the IPA wipedown, if you see defects coming back, you're not really doing such a 'good work'. Ok...that sounded a bit harsh. Let me put it in another way. Most polishes have oils in them, acting as carriers and/or lubrication. Some of the oil *could* act as fillers. While the polish is able to remove defects, these oil *could* have a 'masking' effect and you wouldn't know whether you have FULLY remove the defects until you remove these oils. IPA will do that. Furthermore, these oil *could* also effect the 'bonding' of the sealant/wax with the paintwork. Removing the oil would make better bonding (think using alchohol/cleaner to clean before using glue), hence better performance/durability. Make sense....? |

Make sense....? regarding ULW/NXT, what i meant was that i do not need to apply a 2nd layer since it would most probably remove the 1st one? regarding the buffing off part, what i meant was it is possible to overwipe and remove LSP?? i wasn't going at it lightly and was afraid that i would remove/reduce the LSP oh and regarding the IPA, your explanation does make a lot of sense. A new eye opener for me. Now I have a better understanding on the filler part. What i meant was trying to convey and ask was that i wasn't trying to remove defects with the polishing (just wanted to give it a better shine). by using the IPA, would that remove the shine introduced by the polish? btw i was being told my the megs guys that Ultimate Polish works in tandem with ULW. but seeing the post in meguiarsonline by the Megs US guys seem to make me rethink why i bought the Ultimate Polish in the first place, since the ULW already has some polishing elements in it. i mean i just wanted to give the car a better shine... Well.. It's actually LSP (Last Step Product), whatever you choose to put as the last step of protection, could be sealant, could be wax, usually wax if you plan to top over a sealant.

hello guys. i got this windscreen problem. there is one time i went to a workshop repairing my back bumper. while they were fixing it, another worker was applying and waxing another car. while he waxing it, the residue from the waxing flew onto my windscreen. its a very tiny dots, like the mist spray. at first i didn't even give a damn about it because i don't know the effect or what so ever and can be cleaned with just using water. after a day, the rain pour down and i turned on the wiper. There is a sandy-sound on the wind screen. after touching it, it felt rough because the wax residue is sticking on it. washing it few times does not get rid of it. i feel so stupid right now.
maybe one of your guys can help me how to get rid of it myself. Thank you. |

Get/Borrow a clay bar/sponge/cloth to clean it off. Should be too hard if it's not too serious.

@isaacjoe, yeah....try claying it. Most super/duper/hyper/etc. market got sell clay bar. Any brand would do since you're using it on glass. Remember to use some water as lube.
If that doesn't work, you can try alcohol, mineral spirit or lighter fluid with a cloth. These would 'melt' the wax so you would be left with some hazy looking surface so need wash with some soapy water afterwards. |

But today rain whole day, no haze at the moment, will update again tonight...you used rain x before right? did that happen to rain x? if no, you know your answer already. |

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 10 2013, 03:06 AM) eh there's a spray bottle? thought it's just a regular bottle with liquid, and you pour it on a cloth to apply lol yeah.. it comes in a spray bottle now.. also RM30 plus.regardless i still use a normal glass cleaner to clean (atm using kura kura, cheap and cheerful lol), and then applying rain x on top of it QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 10 2013, 03:07 AM) er.. i went to check out kura kura at the nearby ACE hardware store.. i must say.. kura-kura is not that cheap anymore!! QUOTE(sakurazz @ Apr 10 2013, 08:42 AM) thanks ~ where can we get for more premium brand car care products? i wouldn't call Meg's a premium brand. but they're being marketed as so.. from my newbie experience of only using OTC Meg's products.. my comment is that it meets most of my expectations.. i'll hang on probably on supermarkets only QUOTE(acefreakz @ Apr 10 2013, 10:20 AM) well i parked my car inside the house, but not covered. perhaps my windscreen is fake T.T hahahahaaha nice work bro!! how long did you take? btw just for sharing: lol meguair's wax & detailer rocks! i never have such cleanliness after 2 week it using other products XD |

(basically it helps scrubbing/brushing, cut down time) however if you're on good brake pads with reduced brake dusts, these days i just spray leave it few minutes and just hose off lol only scrub a bit on the front wheels (rear drums) |

But I can't reach the part which is after the spokes The more frequently you clean, the easier it is to clean, and the least risk for the brake dust to eat through the paint and corrode the wheels. If already eaten through then only solution would be to repaint/refurb. That's all. This post has been edited by KrisMas: Apr 12 2013, 08:43 AM |

QUOTE(mav3rick @ Apr 9 2013, 09:39 AM) ok, what do you do about the dust particles that gather after leaving your car for a night? do you wife them off with a quik detailer or something like that? any recommended product for carnauba waxes on the market?i wouldn't go so far as to call them the best fuuh.. 10 hours, must be including the interiors.. thanks for the tip. but wouldn't the IPA also remove any good work done from step 4? ehehhe as for durability, i'm too lazy to do more analysis on it. so i just alternate between UQD and UQW during my weekly washes. I get good beading throughout the week, but i'm not sure which product it comes from.. you apply whatever last step products you;re using, be it natural carnauba waxes, sealents or coatings |

That's a very broad range, maybe better to start with a price range? Usually, the higher carnauba content, the higher the pricing

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 12 2013, 09:21 AM) ooo heard many good things bout sonax, so how's it? and how come you using both? lol Well...the Sonax works well for embedded/stubborn brake dust/iron contaminant but not so good in removing soil, dirt, oil film, etc.I'm not actually using both together. All depends on what 'need' to be done. For normal weekly cleaning I just use an all purpose cleaner (Megs APC at 10:1). Wheel Brightener when/if I see the wheels requires something stronger or after doing heavy mileage (like balik kampung), ie. plenty of brake dust. I now only use the Sonax more for 'decontamination' job, i.e. those times when I want go for full details with the wheels taken off. Or when I just feel like having a little bit of fun watching the wheels turn purple....hehehe.... |

hmm.. i just noticed something last night. remember previously when i commented that Meg's ULW didn't seem to last.. and beading seem to lessen towards the end of the week. Well i think i have to amend that statement of mine. I think it has to do with proper application techniques. My first 2 times using ULW, i was doing a pretty rush job. Last saturday (the 7 hour session

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 12 2013, 08:30 PM) rofl harsh Well...it's one of those days...you know. I'm just sick and tired with people trying to take advantage of the 'uninformed' public. Does he even know what Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE or Teflon® is....?Well....anyway....please do correct me if I'm wrong. PPS is just another sealant. Swissvax also got a wax with PTFE in it. I quote from an article just for argument sake: "TEFLON/PTFE Sealants This synthetic product is sometimes sold as a paint protective sealant or cleaner sealant. Some automobile manufacturers who market these products advertise Teflon products as an extremely long lasting product, with a protection span for your vehicle’s finish for anywhere from one to five years (sometimes longer). Unfortunately, this claim is dubious. “If nothing sticks to Teflon, how does Teflon sticks to the pan?” The answer is: “IT DOESN’T”. The bonding between Teflon and the pan is mechanical. The surface of the pan is etched and the Teflon is applied at temperatures over 640° F. Teflon simply dries in the etched pan and mechanically adheres to it. In order to protect any surface with Teflon, it has to be applied at a very high temperature (over 640 F). Applying a spray-on version of Teflon or mixing the Teflon with water does not effectively bond the Teflon to the surface it is being applied to. The chemical formulation necessary to make a good bond cannot be completed at low temperatures. Even if it was possible to bond Teflon to the vehicle paint, Teflon would give a dull, flat appearance on the vehicle’s surface, since it is a dull product. So if a large enough quantity is used to “protect” the paint, the paint will, in fact appear dull, this makes the entire procedure all but useless. Even the manufacturer of Teflon does not recommend using it as a car wax additive. DuPont Chemicals (The producer of Teflon®) has stated: “The addition of a Teflon® Fluor polymer resin does nothing to enhance the properties of a car wax. We have no data that indicates the use of Teflon® is beneficial in car waxes.” Any rebut is very much welcome. |

hi fellow detailers! im a newbee here, just joined in the detailing gang
I recently bought the Megs DA polisher, and its full detailing set. Did my first detailing session for my mom's kelisa with a polisher, claybar and compound for the first time! here are my steps: wash dry -> claybar -> compound -> polish -> wax. after I finished compound, I found some tiny scratches on my roof, not sure it was there before or not, but it shouldnt be there after applying compound right. 1. is it possible to scratch my car with my claybar? cause i used it to remove tar (megs remover didnt do the job). now that it contains tar, would the tar potentially scratch the paint? 2. is it possible to get scratches using the DA polisher? when I apply compound the process produce little "dust" like particles. is it normal? I wiped it off before polishing again. but would this get trapped in the polishing pad and scratch the paint? 3. Waxing, im using megs ULW, when Im cleaning the pad, i squeezed out plenty of product.. Anyway, in the end I managed to remove water marks and major scratches.. 3 hours hard work Still worth my effort hehe |

QUOTE(ChiaKhai @ Apr 13 2013, 09:26 PM) hi fellow detailers! im a newbee here, just joined in the detailing gang 1) yes possible. if the clay bar is contaminated, dirt trapped in it will produce scratches if they are serious (eg: sand/small rocks)I recently bought the Megs DA polisher, and its full detailing set. 3 hours hard work Still worth my effort hehe that is why if you dropped your clay bar, no matter what, you throw it away. 2) the residue by right *should not* induce further scratch, unless the surface is not clean enough and dirt trapped in the compound solution/pad produced them 3) yea haha, or rather that's kinda the nature with sponges. you could perhaps try to squeeze them out instead of reapplying more product on another panel/surface QUOTE(kevin916587 @ Apr 13 2013, 11:54 PM) Hey guys, im new in here. I hope someone respond to my question (: washing you can use most micro fiber thats soft/supple.for drying, aim for soft waffle weaved micro fiber cloths or chamois cloths to reduce the amount of water wrinkling (saves time |

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 14 2013, 01:34 PM) actually you should squeeze out during your session, not pouring it back in the bottle or something for next session lol. may have residue/contaminants that you'd rather not have, right? lol haha.. its true but i highly doubt that ill use the DA to apply wax next time, just use an applicator.. haha.. |

Possible. You'd need to knead the clay bar regularly or when you see the face of the clay bar had become dirty...even slightly. And make sure you use the right amount of lubricant...just enough that you would feel the clay gliding on the surface without any resistance. Also check for any 'large' grit on the surface of the clay and remove immediately. 2. is it possible to get scratches using the DA polisher? when I apply compound the process produce little "dust" like particles. is it normal? I wiped it off before polishing again. but would this get trapped in the polishing pad and scratch the paint? Almost improbable. Check the scratch. Is it straight or circular. If it's circular then the polishing pad might just pick something up (grit) from the surface, i.e. surface is dirty or dirt particle had settled on it when you're polishing. If scratch is straight then you might had instilled in when you're wiping the polish residue, i.e. check the cloth. Polishing dust couldn't have been the cause. 3. Waxing, im using megs ULW, when Im cleaning the pad, i squeezed out plenty of product.. If you're using the Megs finishing pad on the DA, you'd only need 4 ~ 5 pea size drop for an area size of around half a bonnet....and even lesser after a few applications when the pad is a little saturated. Is it microfiber clothes or any other suggestions? I hope someone respond to my question (: Any good quality foam (sponge), microfiber or lambswool wash mitt would do fine (although I'm strictly a lambswool guy). The key here is to make sure the wash mitt is clean before it touches the paint, i.e. rinse the dirt off after one pass to clean it before using it for the next pass. For drying, a good quality microfiber waffle weave cloth is good. You can use any other drying chamois or cloth but just make sure when you wipe, don't 'scrub' and go over the surface VERY LIGHTLY. Blotting would be a good start as oppose to wiping....QUOTE(MyWifeCar @ Apr 14 2013, 01:42 PM) I'm not sure what I have done wrong yesterday. Thanks KrisMas, the scratches are tiny and straight. and quite uniform, so i guess its caused by the dirty claybar.. looks not too deep. can i use swirl remover to deal with them?

QUOTE(KrisMas @ Apr 14 2013, 04:12 PM) btw to speed up drying process (and reference to previous TS of this thread), would you give an "ok" to using soft silicone wipers to quickly sheet away water before wafer weave/chamois drying?the directions also mentioned to NOT apply force and i can easily see why especially if the silicone wiper picked up dirt and can easily damage the finishing. however if one is careful, making sure after wipes to wash/inspect the blade, and of course gentle/no force applied wipes, should be no problem right? |

Or you can try a stronger mix of shampoo. There's really no method (not that I know of) that can prevent it except for regular washing and maintaining a healthy coat of protection. If you're anal about it, try to consider those modern 'coatings'. I've got plenty of those drip marks and stains too but washes off fairly easily with normal shampoo (I have one car on 'glass' coating and the other on 'ceramic' coating). 2. Or maybe somebody clean the area with some strong solvent before putting on those? Looks like it's along the same place. Looks too far gone to 'cure'. |

Dirt are more apparent on white paint unfortunately. My bro's white car also suffer from this. =( that sucks xD bo bian lo then haha i love white xD |

Just be careful yeah. yeap.. agreed. i have not issue drying up the car with just 1 pass using Meg's Water Magnet. Another tip is when doing the final rinse, just let the water flow over the surface instead of spraying it with pressure. this will allow most of the water to be sheeted away (provided you do have a protection layer One another note, if/when you car has a very healthy coat of protection on, water *should* be able to sheet faily well with an open hose and what's left can be easily dried with one single piece of drying cloth. btw bro krismas, i was reading the back info of the UQD yesterday during my wash.. noticed that it contains Iso propyl alcohol. that's the IPA right? that is capable of removing LSPs right? hmm.. am wondering how come Meg's are advertising it as being able to prolong wax protection.. |

Oh...I thought you knew already. I was saying all along that UQD has quite a strong cleaning properties. I especially like it (on certain occasions) because of this (but my current fav is Dodo Juice Red mist. How much more solvent? - can use as flame thrower...nuff said...hahaha). Our dirty environment sometimes requires something stronger than the normal quick detailer so that it's able to remove the stubborn dirt/oil film, especially after a long drive in the city. Yes it might clean off a little of whatever LSP you have on, but I don't think it's strong enough to remove it (unless the LSP is already weak). hrrm....comes to think of it, you can try the UQD to remove those dirt stain, it might work. But your cloth will get very dirty though.... |

Just my personal opinion la.
By all means just use the UQD if you see dirt built-up that can't be easily wash off with normal shampoo. The LSP had already been compromised and had allowed dirt to 'stick' to it. Using something like the UQD would remove that compromised layer together with the contaminant, eposing a fresh layer, whilst at the same time the UQD also leaves a little bit of it's own 'protective layer' behind. Top it up with UQW if you're looking for further assurance. Just my 2 sen. |

Just my 2 sen. yeah.. probably will use UQD first and top it up again with UQW during my weekly washed instead of just alternating between the 2 of them. Based on my experience the UQD's 'protective' layer doesnt really last that long when compared to UQW. come to think of it, we're really nearing the polishing hands on meet up This post has been edited by mav3rick: Apr 15 2013, 02:08 PM |

hrrmm....I think this had been blown a little bit out of proportion already. I don't think the UQD is so aggressive that it'll TOTALLY remove existing wax/sealant. Maybe remove a little bit of it but TOTALLY remove...I don't think so la.

QUOTE(MyWifeCar @ Apr 16 2013, 01:22 PM) I went to Giant, quite some items on Sonax as well. Giant Bandar Puteri Puchong? Now, that gives me a reason to go Giant. Foam pad, MF cloth, car wash shampoo, wax and other car lubricants. But I need a good TAR remover, any suggestion? I have good experience with Osren's TAR remover, if you want some to try, I'm in Puchong this weekend, bring your own bottle and I can spare you some. |

I need a proper TAR remover, because after I clayed, I can still feel stuff sticking onto the car.
Used OPC also not much helping, instead got water stain more on the surface. That's why I want something that can remove all oil, contaminant and also TAR. I have DG 501, should I give DG 431 a try? |

So far, I have come across 3 URL in Malaysia that you can buy detailing stuff online.
carguys.com.my ultimateshine.com.my duragloss.com.my What else huh? I wish Osren have one too, that would be really great and save a lot of time. |

Good luck with that.Used OPC also not much helping, instead got water stain more on the surface. That's why I want something that can remove all oil, contaminant and also TAR. I have DG 501, should I give DG 431 a try? Even with clay, if the tar had already embeded itself INTO the paintwork, the clay can only shear off the exposed portion of it. You'd need something to melt the tar and, for that, it need to be a solvent. Same thing goes for brake dust. For oil, you'd need something to emulsify it and best would be to use a degreaser. For contaminant, soils, etc. you would need an alkaline cleaner for the job (common all purpose cleaner). If you're looking for something that would do all three - CarPro TriX. But you have to remember the saying: "Jack of all trades but master in none". This post has been edited by KrisMas: Apr 16 2013, 04:27 PM |

Well, I have spare brand new spray bottles, but, well, you'll have to buy/pay for the bottle though I could spare you some of the tar remover. I know, now I sound like Air Asia. Anyway, you really need to look hard for the SONAX. Giant have so many things on display. Anyway, Giant in Bandar Puteri has it? I guess I'll have to visit it then, been ages since I last went in, didn't really liked shopping there, I'm more of a, Tesco shopper, it's right across the road for me, could even walk there if I wanted. |

Aiyo...very delicate situation there. Don't think there's any way around it. Unless you want to put up some sort of party wall using thick plywood or some sort to reduce the noise going there......

Anytime before 4pm is good for me. I'm tempted to get the new craze for myself now that there are some places I know I could use it on with it's "no pressure needed" methods. Already sent Shyan a text but no response yet. Also can take the opportunity to go through my pads and decide for me which to let go.... |

I can try to get info on the availability and price for the 5L container....later after lunch la ya..... btw bro KrisMas, where's this shop at ur mentioned location SS18 Subang Jaya? The SS18 is the main dealer/distributor. Much like Hypercoat in USJ1. The plus side of this wheel cleaner (from my limited experience...errr...which is after using about half of the 5L container |

(abbrasive, solvent?) you could probably use very little and get the same/better results. TW is between rm23-30 for a spray bottle of 768ml, much cheaper, but a bottle can only last maybe... 20-40 wheels or so... that said, brake dust isn't that huge of a concern now since i'm on expensive brake pads that produce absolutely minimum dust no matter how hard i brake (160-170+ down to a full stop LOL) |
