If nobody can bring along a DA, I could bring my Meguairs G220v2 along if the date is set and I could make it.

Hm.. Alvin? From Megs? I need to see the date first, I'm currently no longer based in Klang Valley so I need to see how the arrangement goes.

Oooppss....sorry. I don't think you know Alvin...not from Megs, just one of the kakis but came in later. I see that you're still active....good...good...hehehe...

Oh.. Yeah.. I've never really met up with the "group"before, I'm still active, just, less time/effort spent on it these days, looks like I have G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) these days instead laugh.gif I seem to have most of the "trending" gears bar the Rupes.

hi,
i have difficulties to find a very good car wash centre here in KL...do you guys have any good car wash recommendation? Looking near area Bukit Jalil and Gasing Indah area nearby....

Appreciate your sharing...

A very good car wash is one where you DIY, well, that's really on a serious note, most "centres" are "mass production houses" where the main priority is to get the most customers in a day, and no matter how highly rated they seemed to be, I still feel most are sub-par, maybe I set my own level a little too high considering I do all my cars myself. Rinseless washes are pretty common these days, even if you live in a condo/apartment, as long as you have a roof over the car, it's pretty easy to do, and when you're getting good at it, 30 minutes is what it takes to wash and wax it.

hihi bro~ ace hardware got sell? biggrin.gif thanks! if yes gonna get it this weekend xd~~~

Ace Hardware should have the Bosch Random Orbital Sander, You'll need to look for the AE version which provides variable speed. Current model is GEX-125AE if not mistaken. In fact, you could try hardware shops, probably give you a better offer. I would skip the Black & Decker unless you can get a used one for dirt cheap and modify it's backing plate. I've tried doing that(long ago when I got started), but still felt it's not really worth the hassle. Technological improvement to polishing liquids and pads these days have brought new life to hobbyist just armed with a ROB.

There's also an alternative, though, I hadn't tried it so I can't really comment on it. There's a local paint brand that goes by the name of "Aikka" that has their tools reasonably priced, last I checked, the Dual Action they are selling is around RM400-450, just slightly more than the Bosch which costs around RM350.

Hm.. Not that nice la.. Feels like a show-off sweat.gif I used to do that back when I was into Car Audio, showing off all the nice and vintage amps I have, but it brought wrong impressions instead.

Anyway, if @acefreakz is interested in the B&D, I personally don't think it's worth it even just for waxing, it's around at least RM200 brand new, some places selling up to RM350, the Bosch is a much more worthy buy at RM350 + RM50 for pads.

Personally, if it's on Groupon, it's not that great a deal, coz you should be expecting production house services. wink.gif

It really is just the motor, but it's better to have a more powerful motor than a lesser one, especially when we apply pressure on the machine, a lesser motor will definitely bog down(slow down) much faster than a powerful motor.

I reckon the $$$ saved on the DAS-6 is not really worth it unless you're only planning on polishing/glazing/waxing, don't think it'll be good enough if you need to do any compounding(removing serious defects).

Personally, a kit with pads/polishes sounds like a better deal like the Menzerna one, costs only RM120 and you get pads and liquids, in Malaysia itself, RM120 would only get you pads and not liquids. Too bad the Hydrotech kit is out of stock coz I think that's a more complete set.

Basically, for a simple kit, you'll need at least 1 cutting pad, 2 polishing pads, 1 finishing pad, and also well, if you want, another pad for applying sealant/wax. That's the bare minimum in my opinion, although that would also mean you would need to clear your pads more when "on the job" but if you're not detailing for money, it's not an issue since time is essence if you're detailing for money.

Heck.. Even if you got the Menzerna set and didn't want to liquids, I could probably offer a swap with some *proven*(well, to most people anyway) Meguiar's liquids tongue.gif

Not trying to sound harsh, but I have to borrow from Drex Chan

CARS International is, cheap and fast, no, wait, they ain't exactly cheap coz I remember they needed some kind of membership thing.

Unfortunately, like you had already mentioned earlier on, most of the car wash centres are just "so-so", I'm seriously not quite sure who to go to around your area, unless you want to try one of them mobile detailers, which, of course, you need to let them know it's a MPV and a ladder's necessary. Personally, I don't wash my truck myself coz it's too much hassle and, oh well, it's a company ride.

Well.. That's the world today, everything moves too fast, unless you don't mind paying for boutique type of services which will take their time to get the job well done and, of coz, would cost quite a bit more.

Actually, if it's a machine try-out session, ain't it gonna be in the daytime instead, as in, morning or so. I guess I can't make it, since it's the middle of the week and I will need to rush down from Ipoh.

I would say stay away from the Skil unit as it doesn't have soft start. There's a Chinese Made rotary by a local company called Aikka that looks pretty decent. It's going for rm300-350 and has soft start, though the trigger is a little stiff. Never really used it for a job so I can't really comment on it performance wise. Only test it out free hand while window shopping at my supplier.

Well.. It's actually LSP (Last Step Product), whatever you choose to put as the last step of protection, could be sealant, could be wax, usually wax if you plan to top over a sealant.

Ah ic biggrin.gif thanks bro for correction wink.gif My final step was meant for detailer(e.g. meguair's detailer).

Hm.. OK, although, personally, I don't really use much Instant Detailers except to maybe clean up bird poo before they dry up. Maybe I'm just lazy but I usually just coat on a sealant, and a layer of hard wax when I'm in the mood.

hey bro. if i were to get a polisher, any recommendation for pads? are the menzs pads any better than the megs ones??
*
Never really experienced the Menz pads, but I think Meg's only have the Microfibre pads for the smaller sizes more suitable for DAs.

Get/Borrow a clay bar/sponge/cloth to clean it off. Should be too hard if it's not too serious.

Man.. I can only say you have a lot of enthusiasm. I don't actually detail my own truck, well, first, because it's HUGE, and second, it's a company car. So I guess I rather just send it out for random car washes and come home complaining laugh.gif

That's a very broad range, maybe better to start with a price range? Usually, the higher carnauba content, the higher the pricing biggrin.gif
