I haven't faced any issues so far applying Rain-X or any water repelling substance on the rear windshield. No problems applying it on the side mirrors either. hmm.gif

I bought PG's polymer sealant like yesterday and had it applied on the front section of my abah's car. It says not to apply wax on it, but internet searches tell me that it should be fine to do so hmm.gif. Should I apply wax?

Hi bro, am a noob lol. So i googled it: here. Check out the image(or tree), i find it useful xD hope that helps hehe~

Yeah. I have seen that before biggrin.gif. I think I'll just give it a shot since it has been probably at least 12 hours since the application of the sealant.

I just finished the wax application over the sealant. Here's how it looks like:

user posted image

It's as expected after waxing. The sealant does work as advertised though. It is just like wax. The wax gives a slightly shinier look. biggrin.gif

Currently since I'm tied to hand polishing only, the best I can do is to give it a shinier look sad.gif. The minor scratches that can only be seen under bright light or at an angle is bugging me intensely, but I can't do anything about that cry.gif.

Nice job. Now come the difficult part.....MAINTENANCE.
Don't worry too much about the scratches....those are actually the easier (relatively) part. Learn how to maintain and protect the paintwork and how to MINIMIZE swirls during washing, drying, etc. That is where the real hard work is. I mean...you don't really want to polish your car every month do you....

I have already invested in a microfiber mitt from Meguiars as well as three supremeshine towels biggrin.gif. Got myself an RM12 PVA absorbent tower for the job, and it works pretty well. Quik-dry's the brand.

am wondering if it is possible to split the work to a couple of day. really do not have the energy. my right arm felt like dropping off when i was buffing off the wax.. biggrin.gif

anyway, not sure if i can afford another 7 hour session in 4 months time. let's see if the machines are able to help me out.. biggrin.gif if not in saving time at least saving the strain on my poor right arm.. biggrin.gif

p/s noobie question: is it possible to overbuff with a microfibre and remove LSP?
*
I split the claying, polishing, sealing and waxing sessions on panels depending on the weather biggrin.gif. Since it rains pretty often and only half of the car when parked on the porch is covered, I'd normally do the front section first before leaving the back till the weather is clear, or if I have the chance to move the car in reversed instead. biggrin.gif

ok, what do you do about the dust particles that gather after leaving your car for a night? do you wife them off with a quik detailer or something like that?
*
I'd just spray water on the surface and wipe it dry. I don't normally wash the entire car though if I'm doing it section by section. I usually wash it by sections if I'm not planning to finish everything in a day.

Luckily for me the rims of the cars in my house are all relatively easy to clean ( no fancy slim gazillion spokes design ). But I can't reach the part which is after the spokes sad.gif. Is it really important to keep the rims free of brake dust even to the inner side of the rim?

If wax stains appear all over the car in small lines after each drive for one or two times, does that mean that the wax's not good? hmm.gif. Or maybe it's because of the wax that got stuck in the gaps between body panels being blown out by the wind? hmm.gif

No picture, but the stains look basically like what wax would look on a body panel when not wiped off after it dries hmm.gif.

Hey all. Just wanna seek your professional advice on how to remove the scratches below. I tried using Soft99's Luster and didn't seem to work. Am I suppose to use polisher instead ? Am I suppose to touch up the paint as well (like using Ezytouch up). Thanks in advance !

From what I can see, those scratches should be removable with the help of a Scratch Remover. hmm.gif. I believe that the scratch in the picture on the right can be removed almost completely or completely with a scratch remover as I have done that several times before to similar rubber like scratches. For the scratch in the picture on the left, you can use a scratch remover as well but it might just remove the stain and leave a small groove of the length of the scratch there.

Probably due to Eneos marking up the prices for the items there. hmm.gif

btw, can I know what brand of clay you guys using? and where can I find clay bars?

Eneos sells clay bar. Ace Hardware also sells clay bar, but I only see Meguiar's clay bar kit there. Eneos has Soft99's clay bars, both for dark metallic and light metallic as far as I remember. Brothers sell Soft99 clay bars as well, and it's slightly cheaper. But they're at Kelana Jaya, next to the Giant outlet.

Not sure. I have only tried Soft99 clay bars before. All I can say is they do the job of getting stuck contaminants off the car. laugh.gif

Hey guys, i tried rubbing harder with Soft99 Luster and it didn't work. It didn't feel like rubber stains either. It as if the paint has been chipped off but it doesn't feel like it. Those areas are still smooth. Is it possible to just use touch-up paints to cover it ?
*
Try using a scratch remover like Turtle Wax Scratch Remover. Does the job for me all the time. Nasty to remove though if you leave it to dry on the car's surface.

Another weekend another detail. Btw guys, I have a problem with removing tape mark on plastic headlamp. That stubborn little thing refuse to come out during normal wash while agitating with mf cloth. Can I use tar remover to remove it? Will it dissolve the original coating?  icon_question.gif

Use wax to remove it. smile.gif It's a safer option.

Don't really need machine...still can do by hand. But I can't guarantee it'll work in your particular case cuz I'm just guessing here without actually seeing the condition of your windscreen.

Give Osren a call. They have a glass compound that contains cerium oxide (can't remember what it's called). They also will supply you with a few pads to use it with. It's basically a powdered down cerioum oxide mix that you need to add water to become a paste and use it with a couple of different pads with different aggressiveness to, basically, compound and polish the glass.

But mind you there's a learning curve in using it so that you won't be putting down more scratches instead of removing them (don't ask, learned that the hard way). It's also going to be very time consuming and hard work and, depending on how severe the swirls/scratch is, it might take some time to do one whole windscreen. Not sure about the price of the product also cuz I also only 'pinch' it from a friend, just to try. I think Osren has a distributor or agent or something in the north so you might not have to come all the way down to KL for it.

The other stuff, which is (far) less aggressive (and would also increase the time required) is Soft99 Glass Compound Z. It come together with an applicator pad. But, for this one, I'm don't know whether you can find it or not in Penang. I've seen it selling here at Autobacs Klang, ACE Hardware and ENEOS.

I just bought a bottle of Carplan Ultra Glass Polish. I'm thinking of using it to use it to remove some minor scratches on the side windows and the windscreen, but will hand polishing do or I have to get a machine to do this job? unsure.gif

Any recommendation for a torch that can show swirls and scratches on car paint and does not cost a lot (preferably below RM50)?

hhrrmmm....tough one. I once had a 'cheapo' torch that runs on 4 x AA cell and has something like *maybe* a dozen LEDs. Worked decent enough.....but not enough to quench my OCD...

What are you using now and how much did it cost?

Hi guys,

I wrote an article on how to remove watermarks using clay bars. Its been raining a lot lately and I thought some of you might find this useful.

Enjoy  biggrin.gif

Wow biggrin.gif. RM7 per box until Feb 2014? That's a really sweet deal.
