user posted image

--- This thread is dedicated to the arrival of iPhone 5 at our shores and is solely for discussion on Maxis iPhones. It is set up to help the rest of the forummers who are actually interested in getting an iPhone from Maxis, discussions on the plans and and also pointing out the miscellaneous terms and conditions imposed in the contract. ---

*We are not related to Maxis in any way and are not your personal Maxis customer service officer. We will make all current information available here but we might not be able to attend to some of your queries. For any further enquiries, kindly contact Maxis directly*

- The sole purpose of this thread is for discussion on Maxis's iPhone rate plans and to serve as a guide for potential subscribers. It's not a medium for chit-chat, to gain post counts or spill all your complaints on unrelated issues.
- No discussions on registrations, bookings, deposits and anything related to those.
- No discussions on/and comparisons with Singapore/Aussie and any other countries' offerings. Do head to their specific threads.
- This is not a Maxis bashing thread.
- Spams, one-liners, off-topic posts will be deleted and a warning will be given for repeated offenses.

Commonly Asked Questions on Maxis iPhone 4/4S/5:

Collection (credits to leecwai)

QUOTE
So far I have called up Maxis twice, and reconfirm again with them. Only need these for iPhone pick up:

1) I/C
2) Confirmation letter
3) Deposit receipt

*Those who registered for the phone under a supplementary line will need to bring along the principal line (with I/C) owner during collection.

Maxis will register the mobile # that you want to tie with their plan, but the catch is the mobile # must be registerED under your name. Same applied to Hotlink. No sim required but the number must be register under the buyer's name.

If you don't have a prepaid and do not want to buy a prepaid card, basically you can give the free data to your family members or friends by changing the prepaid register name to your name.

Changing of name is free but must be done in Maxis center. (The original owner must be there
to change the registered name)

QUOTE
> What firmware does Maxis 4/4S/5 iPhone comes with?
- It comes with iOS 6.0.1

> Does it come jailbroken?
- No

> Can I jailbreak the iPhone?
- User's preference. Warranty will be void unless a full restore is done before sending it back for warranty

> Can I trade in my old iPhone 2G/3G/3GS/4/4S for Maxis iPhone 5?
- A trade-in counter may be available at the launch event

> Can I use it with other telcos since it's unlock and any forumers using?
- Yes. There are forumers using on different telcos.

> Can I use it overseas?
- Yes, on officially unlocked 4/4S/5 iPhones. Place the simcard and and you're ready to use. You can use the services of various GSM based carriers around the world.

Commonly Asked Questions on Rate Plans, Data Usage, Call/SMS Charges, Warranty:

Rate Plans:
QUOTE
> Can I purchase iPhone 4/4S/5 from Maxis without subscribing to any sort of contracts?
- Yes. You can purchase your iPhone via Hotlink (Prepaid) plans. However, you must first be registered for a postpaid iPhone 4/4S/5 plan.

> Can I purchase iPhone 4/4S/5 from Maxis via the Hotlink plan but use it on my Maxis postpaid or on other telco (Digi, Celcom)?
- Yes. That's the beauty of official-unlock/outright purchase. However, the Hotlink plans do come with a free 500MB data usage per month, for a year. If you decided to use the phone on another plan or telco, you're basically 'dumping' the free data bundle that comes with it.

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can I switch to any of the iValue Plans and get the iPhone 4/4S/5 at subsidized price?
- Yes. Contact Maxis Customer Service or Maxis Centre for more details.

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can I subscribe to iValue and maintain my supplementary line(s)?
- Yes. You can still keep your supplementary line(s).

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can pair my current plan with iData and get the iPhone 4/4S/5 at subsidized price?
- Yes. Do choose from iData 30, 50 or 99 according to your preference or data usage pattern.

> I'm currently on a supplementary line. Can I switch to iValue on my own?
- No. You will need to request your principal line subscriber to book on your behalf.

> Can I pair any of the iValue and iData plans together?
- No. iValue is a standalone plan and iData can only be paired with Value Plan/Plus or any supplementary lines.

> I'm currently using an iPhone 2G/3G/3GS/4/4S/5 from Singtel/overseas, am I entitled to get the free 500MB data bundle per month if I have/get a Hotlink prepaid number from Maxis?
- No. You will need to have/get a Hotlink prepaid number and purchase an iPhone 4/4S/5 from Maxis to be entitled for the data bundle.

Upgrade/Downgrade of Plans:
QUOTE
> Policy-wise it is not clearly spelled out, so some people may not do it. For those who will do it, by terminating the service (eg. iData 2) to assign a new one (eg. iData 3) will trigger the penalty to kick-in, which will require a waiver which will require approval.

Data Usage:
QUOTE
> Is iData/iValue's 500MB/1GB data bundle sufficient for casual surfing?
- Yes. Based on feedback from few forummers, Facebook, YouYube, IM, Surfing, Apps download and updates take up roughly 500MB per month. Just an estimation though. If you're an heavy user on downloads and YouTube, do take up higher capacity data bundle.
(Note that the allocated data per month is fixed for every month and cannot be carried forward)

QUOTE
Example: (credits to nokia2003)
i don't jailbreak and tether my iPhone (important piece of information) and i'm on the 250MB/month. let me illustrate on, my typical average usage per day; i'm perpetually on LYN (not the lite version), retrieve and reply e-mails (6 accounts), read news (from different sites), moderate another forum, blog hopping, IM chatting and the odd apps updating. i typically, spend approximately 6 hours away from my home during university days and rely heavily on the optus 3G network of course. also bear in mind that i have never exceeded my data allowance. this website should also be helpful to estimate your usage.

user posted image

> I've read about few forummers about subscribing to the Unlimited Data Plan for RM99 rather than iData 3 (capped at 3GB) if you're a heavy data usage user, is it really unlimited?
- From a reliable Maxis source, it is confirmed that even the Unlimited Data Plan for RM99 is also capped at 3GB, which means it's exactly the same as iData on the capped usage (3GB).

> What will be the data usage charges for all the iData plans if I've exceeded the free data bundle given?
- Additional usage will be charged at 0.5 sens/kb.

Call/SMS Charges:
QUOTE
> Does the iValue plan includes any SMS usage?
- No. You will have to pay extra for any SMS you sent, 10 sens/SMS
(You can subscribe to RM8 SMS package from Maxis which allows you to send up to 500 SMS per month to Maxis numbers)

> I'm currently on Value Plus 50 and have supplementary lines on Family Plus 30, calls from main-supp, supp-main, supp-supp are free. If I switch to iValue, will I still able to enjoy free calls with my supplementary lines?
- Yes. With the new revised iValue plans, calls & SMS made to and from your supp lines will remain free. (subjected to Family Plus T&C) (UPDATED)

> What will be the call charges for all the iValue plans if I've exceeded the free minutes given?
- The call rates will be at a flat rate to all networks. (including to Maxis numbers)
- eg. iValue 1 (Free 333 minutes): Additional calls made to Maxis/other networks are 15 sens/min.

Warranty:
QUOTE
> How long is the warranty period for Maxis iPhone 4S/4?
- The warranty is up to 2 years from the date of purchase and cannot be extended. (ACPP might be available, to be confirmed)
(Even if your contract with Maxis is for 2 years, the warranty is valid for 2 years)

> What kind of damages does the warranty cover against?
- Just like the policy of any other mobile phone distributor, the warranty covers against any software/hardware failures and damages that are not self-caused or due to self-negligence. (eg. drops, water damages)
(Warranty will be void if you jailbreak your iPhone. Do a restore before sending in for warranty)

> If my iPhone is faulty, can I send in to Maxis and request for 1-to-1 exchange?
- In most cases, 1-to-1 is done for faulty sets. But you might need to wait if the specific centre don't have ready stocks. And take note that for the experience of past Maxis iPhone users, a refurbished set will be given for the exchange.

> I've just bought a used Maxis iPhone 4/4S/5. What do I need to do when I wanted to send in my phone to Maxis for warranty?
- To claim warranty you need the person who bought the iPhone which is under his/her name to be present. Requires I/C (of original owner) and warranty card.
*UPDATE: According to a personnel from Machines, having the Warranty Service Card is suffice for warranty purpose.(credits to tinkerbel)

Rate Plan Recommendations:
QUOTE
> Which plan suits me the most? There are so many plans and I'm confused!
- It all depends on your monthly usage of calls, SMS and data. Below are some recommendations:

Postpaid users
1. Utilise more calls than SMS per month, utilise data usage as well (substantial or not) and don't mind being contracted, go for iValue plans.

2. Would like to use your iPhone to do some casual surfing and don't mind being contracted, sign up for the iData plans, choose one which suits your data usage pattern most.

3. Utilise quite a substantial amount of data usage per month but not willing to being contracted under iValue or iData, you can get your iPhone via Hotlink, keep your current postpaid plan and subscribe to Maxis's RM99 Unlimited Data plan. (not under iData plan, but still capped at 3GB per month)

Prepaid users
1. You would still want to enjoy 500MB of data bundle every month for a year (without being contracted), get the iPhone under Hotlink plans.
> Get the Hotlink Youth Club simpack at RM8.80 if you're under 25 and you'll get 4 years validity (with minimum top up of RM10 per year) or
> Get a normal Hotlink simpack, subscribe to Hotlink 365 (maintain prepaid line validity for a year) for:
Subscription is RM33 (one time) + RM30 (min top-up within 1st 6 months) = RM63
**Both will ensure your prepaid line will be valid 24/7 to receive the 500MB data bundle!

Stocks availability subjected to branches daily allocation.

Less visited branches tend to have more leftovers.

Anyway, stocks update have their discussion at another specific thread and keep this thread clean solely for plans discussions. smile.gif

Wow, just saw that the free calls and smses between family lines are maintained, anyone already confirmed that? Cause when I signed my I value plan two weeks ago, the sale person told me that no more free calls/smses between family lines.

Currently Maxis is only having their LTE offering to Wireless Broadband users. Those got different APNs, so you're not supposedly using them on mobile phones (many features are stripped). Apart from that, coverage is pretty limited. I'd call it a "public beta".

Also, it's unknown whether they gonna offer LTE on 1800MHz in conjunction to 2600MHz band. But looking on how that's going to be standard practice in our region and also European countries, we'll see dual mode 1800/2600 LTE pretty soon.

Btw, even if Maxis indeed does offer LTE on 1800MHz band, that gonna wait for Apple to have them tested, and they have to update their carrier bundle software, before you can actually use it. LTE feature on the phone will only activated if Apple allows.

Guys, currently my main line is subscribed to SurfMore 50. If I want to share that plan with my iPad, is there any way to do so?? I mean, I want to get another SIM card for my iPad under my current numb and plan. Please advise, thanks.

I dont think they throttle enough. Speed is just awsome! Now exceeding 300mb! Initially yesterday i thought maxis will starting to slow the speed by today. But as u can see from the speedtest the speed maintained!

Well, previously asked Maxis CS on the capped speed and they said it will be throttled to 1/3 of normal speed. So yours should be a fine example, since mine can get 15Mbps when still unthrottled.

Good news for Maxis customers then. Even the capped speed is equivalent to the Unifi speed already. I just hope that people don't bombard the network with torrents and torrents. Well, I know ISPs should be neutral regardless of type of traffic, but then let's just say that we shall never let them to have an excuse to throttle us further.

Dont think is an IOS bug
I have used both celcom and U Mobile on mine unit - never faced such issues
Do not discount could be phone problem or simcard problem
Such issues is irritating if it occur - I can never accept these as normal

I had to sign the agreement form that indicated that I received the phone in good condition at the payment counter. After that, I had to go to another counter to get the nano sim card. Dont think is an IOS bug
I have used both celcom and U Mobile on mine unit - never faced such issues
Do not discount could be phone problem or simcard problem
Such issues is irritating if it occur - I can never accept these as normal
*
well, this is a commonly reported problem among in group of friends.

Meaning all their sim card and phone has issues? rolleyes.gif

i guess its just iOS been buggy for now, after update, this should be gone.

iOS is an established OS - I dont see why this can be an OS issue as it is a very basic functionality of the phone OS
If ios6.02 is that bad /buggy even for such a basic core function, those software developers ought to be booted out
Anyway I also do not faced such issues - I am on Celcom and ios 6.02 since day two ( day one was on ios 6.01)

I don't really see an issue to be worried. It's just a commonly reported problem.

Besides, you said you are on Celcom, this is a Maxis discussion thread. I'm telling you its normal for a Maxis user to feel such minor problem. Even my fren on digi has to restart his phone occasionally when the 3G icon disappear when he drives.

Besides, it's not really something major to fuss with. When the next iOS update comes and it disappears, it proves the point. If not, let's all go exchange our sim cards and phones and see whether it changes or not.

Have you ever lost the 3G signal when you enter into a lift and after exiting the lift, it does not automatically come back and you need to restart the phone to get it back?

Yes.

Happened during highways too when I am travelling back to hometown.

Nothing major, just irritating, I know.

I agree with you. I did call 123 earlier, and they said I've got to wait a little longer before the signal gets locked down. It's something intermittent, hope its addressed in the future! smile.gif

I would like to share my experience in resolving 3G signal lost using Maxis latest carrier update 13.2

I have this irritating issue which even after network reset is also not consistent. Then, after reading few feedback in MacRumors with regards to this issue, I have decided to restore my phone via iTunes as a fresh new phone. I get all the contact back up from iCloud.

Now, it has been a week since I performed the recommendation approach and I could say it is perfect. I dont have to toggle the airplane mode or restart or hard reboot the phone anymore.

Anyone of you may want to consider this approach which perhaps working fine to solve your issues. It is not a guarantee it will 100% resolved the issue but at least it did to me.

Hope this helps.

Futhermore, I cant confirmed should it is iOS bug or Maxis as both of my iPhone 5 which are using Maxis have the same trait of issue.

I am now happy without the hassle of lost 3G connection.

Thank you for sharing. What version of IOS are you on? My carrier version is 13.1. How did you get 13.2?

Sorry. My apologies. It is supposedly 13.1 officially instead. I've performed a tweak to change the Maxis logo to be a custom logo which the carrier file is 13.2. But the customization of the logo is not related to the 3G signal lost at all.

I am on iOS 6.0.2 which I had issues with the signal lost since iOS 6.0.1

I asked the staff at the payment counter nicely if I could sign the paper after I opened the box and checked the phone for any issues, but he told me that I had to sign first before I could do that. I did not want to make any hassle with him, so I signed it, and when to the other counter to get the nano sim card and also prayed super hard there wouldn't be any scuffs. However, mine does have a slight rattling sound when you shake the phone real hard, I have no qualms with that however.

Maybe you could get your way if you were to be much more persistent/insistent than I was? tongue.gif

I was put on reservation list last Sat at Maxis TTDI. I was told it would be faster if I call 123 and ask for availability straight.

Is this true?

I thought the same as well, but as I looked at another payment counter, I saw another guy opening the box at the payment counter, so I may have just been silly not to open it at the payment counter or the other staff member at the other payment counter was kind enough to let that customer open it. I walked in into Northam Tower last Saturday at 10 AM. They had stock for 16GB black which was that I wanted. I did ask if they had 32GB, and they said no.

Walked into Northam Tower last Saturday at 10 AM and got it. I did a booking the day before at QB, but still no call from them till now (and thats including tweeting @MaxisListens to book one for me at QB). It's 16GB black. I was rushing a bit for time as I had to be else where so I did not make a fuss about signing it first, but like I said, being insistent could get your way hehe.

Larry, yes I got it from Northam Tower (walk in). No scuffs, and I only hear a slight miniscule rattling sound when I shake it hard. Picking up the phone from the table or taking it out from my pocket and making a call does not produce that sound. The "shake" isn't hard enough, so I wouldn't worry about it smile.gif

Hi, even at the Maxis site you can't see how many voice call/sms you've used. Only unbilled amount. To access this from your phone dial *100*9*1*2#

I prayed before going to Maxis. Hahaha. The sales consultant gave me the first set after I signed the agreement paper, then she opened the box for me. I realized there was this quite obvious scuffgate. Then I told her, she took another set for me. Hehe. A very small scratch at the side but it can't be seen, not so obvious as the first set. So all it's good. Applied the screen protector & put on the casing on the spot. Happy customer! smile.gif

Hi, anyone knows what credit cards are eligible for 24 months EPP for purchasing iPhone 5?

What I can see from the Maxis website is only MayBank can sign for 24 months EPP.

I think Maybank is the only one offering a 24 months EPP.

But tbh, I rather pay outright. EPP blocks a huge chuck of my CC, very annoying.

Btw, heads up to potential iPhone users/contract takers here, Pakej Komunikasi Belia thingy got a rebate of 200 for iDigi (DiGi) plans.

Waiting for maxis to implement before grabbing another for an awesomely good deal tongue.gif

who had successfully activated & USED maxis visual voicemail (VVM) ? any tips/guide on that? i've activated but yet unable to use the VVM. (activated & deactivated many times)

P/S: any additional charge on this service?
*
Yup, I've activated mine.

At first the Visual Voicemail doesn't show up though, clicked VM and it just dialled 121. Then I've tried leaving myself a message to my iPhone number, now it works.

Happy customer! smile.gif
*
Aiya urs white set also got scuff ar? Even the second set have a scratch. Izzit maximum they can open 2 new set only? Did you complain about ur 2nd set? If you wanted to change another one, would they? Bcs paying 2k for it I would be very unhappy if my set is not perfect.

I don't think it's called "scuff" but I don't know how to explain the imperfection on the first set. I believe many iPhone(s) out there are imperfect, life is like that. Yes, paying 2k is a lot for a phone but why complain when the imperfection is just so minor & couldn't be seen? The side of the phone is too perfect, so minor scratch and what not doesn't bother me. Haha.

called Maxis but they claimed no stock & have to book. Best part is they cannot commit lead time. Based on my last week experience at Maxis Melaka, the impression i have is they are stocking for new customers!

I've seen at least 4 customers when I was there for lunch.

Does the smartphone rm200 rebate do apply on the maxis IValue package?

I already asked at the nearest cheras centre and they said it's doesn't applicable on that outlet. And not so sure about other outlet...

Anyone have idea about how this smartphone rm200 rebate works?

Edit: if the iPhone have problem in the future and still under the 1 year warranty period, is it meant that I have to bring back the iPhone to the maxis centre that I sign the plan with in order to claim the warranty?

Maxis roadshow at Midvalley near Coffee Bean might have stocks for iPhone.

I saw at least 4 new customers opening their new iphones there.

Must I spell it word by word? laugh.gif

So if you want to try your luck to get a new iphone, there might be stock for you.

Nope.

For now, only Samsung Y is being offered.

For Digi, it's a blanket 200 bucks reduction of their price.

If u phone stolen you can claim 1to1 if you have the iphone insurance. Not recommended but I took the insurance for peace of mind.

Errr...I don't think smartphone protection by Maxis to be a really good idea. Take notice on Maxis site for it to only cover "Attended Theft" cases. Well, what does this mean? It means the phone got grabbed, out of your hand. Sounds kinda WTF right? Well, there's more WTFness in their T&C for every exclusion you can imagine.

Already discussed in previous thread here. Actually I don't want to make Maxis sounds bad, but this is just plain bad.

Guys, for those who are bored of Maxis & DiGi not selling as OutRight Purchase. I got a solution for you guys. Cause I've been ignored to purchase from those Operators, telling me to sign up contract to buy iPhone 5 when i already had a contract with them.

I bought my iPhone 5 from http://store.apple.com/my

Price : Out Right Purchase Retail price.
Shipping fee : Anything above RM 250 is free shipping.
Duration : Roughly 4 working days
Shipping Method : Standard shipping via DHL
Shipment Origin : Singapore
Payment method : only credit card

I've ordered one unit iPhone 5 Black Slate 32GB + Additional Lighting Cable for RM 69. Total payment is RM 2568.00. Ordered 8th Jan 2013 around 9am. By 3:30pm, they had shipped via DHL. On 9th Jan 2013, it has reach KL for clearance. And now it's on its way to delivery. Signature required upon arrival.

I already on maxis iData 3 plan. Yet I no plans to renew plans too. What contract package you're in?

After hearing maxis customer have to sign agreement of accepting the phone before opening the box is too scary. Worst part, they don't allow outright purchase and even have to wait 2 weeks for it. All those bullshit stuff like pre booking. I just ordered from store.apple.com/my with ever ready stock. Imagine, just 3 working days. How awesome is that be.

All those bullshit stuff like pre booking. I just ordered from store.apple.com/my with ever ready stock. Imagine, just 3 working days. How awesome is that be.

If got scuffs, then just don't pay.

If change on spot when purchase sure they give u a new set with box, but if u bring back after days of purchase, usually replace only with the phone itself with no access

Well, there's no need to fill detailed particulars, also no need to show any proof. You'll do fine with filling in details as "Pekerja".

Just don't fill in as student, since students may need to show their student ID at store.

Nope, Maxis offer iPhone iValue 1 plan with the 200 bucks rebate. I'm using iValue Simple, so far so good.

i also did my pre-booked 3 weeks ago.. but registration and port in very fast. because no ppl is signing up the iphone5 plan at there.

the only drawback in small town is the maxis 3g speed.. maximum i can get is 2Mbps +

so seeing you guys 10-20Mbps.. drool.gif

You're right. It's not bad. I used Digi & U Mobile before. Currently using Maxis. Digi has the worst mobile Internet connection. Digi, even without exceeding the quota, I got an average of 0.3-0.5mbps. Disappointing really.

I have no idea how to check it but I roughly know how much I've used la. Manually record it yourself? Haha. I think "call to other operator & maxis" refer to "local operators". Most probably TM number is included. If you have doubts, you can call the customer service to ask.

Dont need to be so ridiculous one.

See your usage pattern.

200 minutes free is roughly bout 40 bucks.

If you don't sms much, that's roughly how you can estimate your bills.

Or at least, that's how I use to do it.

To those using the above services, quick note. You might be charged for the service request, so it's best to call 123 directly still if you have the time. I was browsing through my bill when I noted the "service request" charges, of which is probably from these because I have never used them previously.

It should be free of charge. I've been using it quite some time and a quick check on my previous bill, Maxis didn't charge me anything.

Corporate data plan 3GB and unlimidted RM99 have upgraded to 5GB and 30GB respectively. The downside is no more unthrottled speed after the data limit.

I noticed an item on my bill stated as "Info request/Content SMS request". This would be in the SMS section of your detailed bill.
As far as I know, I've never replied to any messages from unknown numbers. I've also never got this charge before. I have 2 lines under my account, and the past month my wife was demonstrating to me on both numbers how to check data usage using the automated messages described previously. Sure enough, the charges popped up on my bill which more or less corresponds to how much I requested at rm0.15 per reply.
Yet to clarify with Maxis though, I didn't think too much of it since I never actually bother using the service.

This is normally for those 'Reply Y to join the contest' (or something similar like 'Reply NO to opt out/unsubscribe) type of SMS. Most common ones are SMS by banks whereby they will charge you for any inquiry made via SMS.

I've never replied to any unknown numbers, as mentioned. I just ignore them, unless they found some way to charge me for sending their spam. And the charged amount corresponds with the Maxis service replies.

If your friend turned ON 'Find My iPhone' feature previously, you may try to locate the device with any other iPhone with 'Find My iPhone' apps installed. Just log in with the lost phone's Apple ID will do.

Lost phone is considered as good as gone. There is no IMEI tracking/blacklisting in all M'sia telcos or MCMC.
You may be able to Find My iPhone, and let's say it points to KLCC, so ?

Very very thin chance, if the thief is caught somewhere, someplace. And the police are good enough to check the phonebook list (provided not yet reset to factory default) and call you.

very slim chance to get back.
find my iphone, needs the phone to be online (connected to wifi/3g) to get tracked. and the update is not that instant. this make the chance of tracing the phone not high.
perhaps the only last thing you can do is, delete off your personal data using 'find my iphone', which might probably worked when the phone is online.

Ya. I would say 0.01% chance. Unless iTunes can block/brick the phone if it try to connect online.
But that still does not recover it. I say... Just move on and get another phone.

No issues with my nano simcard. All is fine.

Your sms received looks weird....I never received any such message. The maxis fellas might have made some mistake n screw up your data plans....best if you can drop by maxis centre to sort them out.

Tried restarting ur iPhone? Mine was unable to connect to 3G for few hours and then i restarted it to find it back.

Maxis iValue 1/2/3/4 did not include sms to other operators, which make me feel a lil frustrating with a thousand of free sma to maxis network but none to others.

Anyway I read that you guys were saying maxis would not incur pay-per-use charge after exceeding quota? Any reliable source to that? I am using iValue 1 (RM100). Thanks!

I don't have the source but I did receive an SMS from Maxis saying for all data plans with 1Gb package and above, once quota reached will be speed throttled but will not incur additional charges.

Just approach any maxis centre or call 123 and they will confirm the same for u.

WAH it's cheaper and more worthwhile because I use very little of the bundled minutes and sms!! Mine was iValue 1, 24 month. Used the RM200 rebate but it's still more expensive!

The last time I checked with maxis, you can have:
1. Multi-SIM for one number
2. Multi-number for one sim

2 sim cards allow you to enjoy mobile data on 2 devices but there is only one default simcard that will be receiving calls and SMSes.
I think it's RM15/month. And there is some one-off payment to get the sim card as well.

(Source: called up maxis last year for this question.)

You can have multisim one number and one simcard that sets to default receive calls and smses. Both simcards can make calls and sms and both originate from same number.

But for data, both simcards requires different packages. Meaning if you subscribe to unlimited data, you cannot share the unlimited data on both (or more) of your simcards.

Actually you can have up to 5 multisims.....and if they allow unlimited data to be shared to all the 5 simcards...maxis will go bonkers haha.

Through telco, they'll only provide you with 3rd party warranty coverage. Those won't be serviced by Apple btw, so not really a good investment IMHO. Same applies for 2nd year complimentary warranty for those who are on 2-year contact.

Singapore got AppleCare for SGD99, but that only applies for the ones sold there AFAIK.

Multisim is for voice & sms only. For data, you have ivalue 1 for your main sim, and your alternate sim, you either subscribe to one of the data package or be charged by data upload/download.

For 2 years warranty back to manufacturer, only ACPP does that, nothing else. Sad thing is those aren't being sold here.

Even insurance agency may only have them sent to their appointed repair facility (read: mobile phone repair shop). But at least insurance may cover more than just manufacturer defect (e.g: damages, theft, missing device), of which made it a bit better choice compared to smartphone protection by Maxis (also some kind of insurance policy actually, but of course not underwritten by them).

Guys/gals,

What do you think about the new i5 plan with surfmore 75? 24 months contract and device price for i5 16GB is $1188.

I like being able to surf 5GB but I know my usage is way much much lesser. I don't like being tied with 24 months contract though.

If you don't spend so much in calls and SMS, SurfMore 75 should fit as you only pay-per-use.
Unlike the iValue plans with bundled message/calls at higher monthly commitment fees.

For me, I don't mind 5GB at RM75, and since I rarely exceed phone bills at RM30/month, my monthly usage would be roughly like iValue RM100, but with much higher internet quota.

But 5GB.. Can you finish it? :/

I just started subscribing to data plan (prepaid). My usage is very low. Should be less than 1GB. Sigh, I guess this plan is too much for me. The i5 device price is attractive though.

Hello. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't spend much on calls or SMS. So I think the Surfmore (SM50 more suited than SM75) is ok. Unfortunately, maxis only offer i5 at a discounted price with SurfMore75. I doubt I can finish 5GB. sad.gif

I just want to get the device at a discounted price. Already bought one i5 outright with prepaid plan (another telco). Thinking to get another i5.

5GB is not sufficient for me.

I just finish 20GB in one night. 21mbps speed tested too much for me to handle. I use bitcomet torrent, got around 2.2mb/sec

Rarely using my lousy streamyx 4mbps.

5GB is not sufficient for me.

I just finish 20GB in one night. 21mbps speed tested too much for me to handle. I use bitcomet torrent, got around 2.2mb/sec

Rarely using my lousy streamyx 4mbps.

I am using a Hotlink simcard that I just bought for my new iPhone 5. I don't know how to set it up for calls and 3G. I keep getting multiple texts from Hotlink saying "Harap maaf. Sila buat panggilan pertama terlebih dahulu." What does it mean??

Go to maxis webpage and sign up for maxis online account on the top right. From there you should've figured out how.

It seems that Maxis set having big issue.

I've encounter two iPhone 5 16GB Maxis set suffering from sudden no 3G signal. Even using airplane mode doesnt help to revive 3G signal.

Only option is to switch off and on back the phone.

This problem didn't exist in Apple Store units.

I thought so as myself and many maxis users are facing this issue. Turns out that folks on other carriers are, as well. To make it worst, if you check out the Apple support forums it looks like its happening many other people on other networks worldwide. It's an iPhone 5 issue maybe? 4/4S does not seem to have such issues.

Hi all, I just sign up the iPhone5 at Sunway Pyramid Maxis centre. BEWARE!! There DO NOT allow you to exchange the iPhone5 if you found your unit has defect. They only offer to send in for warranty and ask you to leave without your phone.

They asked you to sign the paper during making payment that you have received the unit in good conditions BUT don't allow you open and check the unit.

The Sunway centre is full of people, not recommended if you want to sign up and check the unit before leaving the place.

U should enquire n ask about the replacement , n shouldn't sign the paper before u check on the device, actually u can lodge complain at consumer right to give pressure to them, so u signed up plan made the payment but didn't get the iPhone 5? If u said as defect , sure can change , or other way is call maxis centre n mention the poor service n the person who attended you

Every maxis centre also don't allow 1 to 1 exchange unless the device DOA. Stop dreaming to have 1 to 1 exchange. They will just ask u send to warranty.

I think so.
My plan was iValue with phone price RM1,199 and advanced payment is 500.
So I paid RM1199+500, and the balance RM1 I ask the person to charge it into my first bill tongue.gif
I suppose it goes the same way for you. So that would be 2188, correct.

Just a little black unit scuffgate problem. Have to accept the unit or else need to wait 2weeks for the warranty replacement.

I would say not recommend Sunway Pyramid Maxis Centre, as it is very crowed, staff are busy and some staffs are frustrated due too many customers.
Not a good experience at all.

Choose Maxis Centre unless you wish to purchase the unit with Easy Payment, otherwise, choose a less crowded Maxis Deal / Partner shop is better.

Even for Maxis Centre, they are other branch at TTDI and E@Curve.

my first bill of ivalue plan come in, the pro-rated one. but got many hidden charges, gotta contact maxis CS to clarify and they promised to waive on the next bill. becareful guys.

my example - 5 days pro-rated ivalue simple plan (RM50)

they charged me:

1. RM8.07 (so should be RM50/30 x 5 = RM8.3) OK
2. RM6.39 (New GPRS Service ivalue) ??
3. RM4.98 (Calls - waive RM4.98) OK
4. RM3.85 (SMS onnet RM1.30; offnet RM2.55 - only waive RM1.85) ??

don't care about the SMS charges, let's focus on the RM6.39. is that hidden? laugh.gif

Hi, just asking, what batch is the iphone 5 currently at ?

I went to maxis centre in Sunway Yesterday, and i wanted to get an Iphone 5, but the sales assistant there advice me against it as there is a big risk of up to 90% that the device maybe scratch and a 1 to 1 replacement is not given thus if i want to send it in for warranty i still have to wait 2 weeks for it. So what batch is it currently at now ? sad.gif

Please PM me nod.gif

I think the Sales Assistants deserves the sack. Try mentioning his/her name and see if this happens. Don't believe everything you hear. Most of us here already got our Iphones and like every other product there are always some defects. That is what the warranty is for. If he is lazy to sell you the phone (because of over crowded centre) or his centre does'nt have stock, just say so. vmad.gif

because i asked her ' why i sign up ivalue simple should be having unlimited data and if over the 1GB should throttle the speed (and they did throttle my speed), why still charged RM6.39?"

she nothing to say and agreed to waive for me. blush.gif

This is very normal for maxis to simply charge people.

It's good you check your bills haha.

In 2 weeks will you get a brand new set or refurbish?
*
They say it will be a the same set or replacement another new set, but I seriously doubt it is new set. Since Apple could use refurbished set to warranty replacement. Sealed doesn't mean new.

However since iPhone 5 is still new in the market, I guess refurbished set is not that "used" afterall.

just called to them and CS will waive for me on next bill..

because i asked her ' why i sign up ivalue simple should be having unlimited data and if over the 1GB should throttle the speed (and they did throttle my speed), why still charged RM6.39?"

she nothing to say and agreed to waive for me.  blush.gif

So far anyone else of got Bill Shock from Maxis ?
For all iValue plans, there should be throttling to 32Kbps and there is no extra charge. But we all know Maxis, they like to extra charge. And their stand alone Mobile Broadband plans have extra charges policy once quota is finished.

old or new stocks also will got chance of scuff.. depends on luck. but most probably maxis centers now their sets will have low chance of scuff already (maxis center not the MEPs)

i thought refurbished set is not sealed, they just hand you the phone without other accessories? blink.gif not sure about this.
but yes +1 to the point that now refurbished sets are not really used smile.gif

Like what.. 32kbps?
I saw a post the other day here that it was still as good as 3G after exceeding quota. But some claimed it as 32kbps. I don't know. Currently finding it very difficult to even reach half of my 2GB quota despite youtubes and whatnot.

Yup. I breached the quota of 4GB and it was very torturing speed. Whatsapp, twitter still as usual only apps like FB, instagram you will feel it is very very very slow.

Nope, you can't trade in. But you can extend your contract with them, so you don't have to terminate your current ones.

Hardware problem bro. Mine the same, Maxis replaced a new one for me after one month use. Do record a video or pic when the purple lines appear.

Fiancee's sister bought iphone5 from qbay penang maxis. The female chinese staff told her after paying that see the phone box is sealed right? We get our stocks directly from apple. And if there is any cosmetic defects, there wont be any exchange & apple doesnt accept exchange for cosmetic defect either.

Luckily after opening the set, white 16gb, no scuffs noted, just one very small white dot at thr back part like mine, so she was ok with it. The girl is damn lucky I wasn't there. Would have told her off nicely, dont she know that there is so many QC issue? And somemore u say apple doesnt accept exchange? what total bullshit and not forgeting she was trying so hard to sell some stupid insurance. Should have visited the northam maxis center instead of MEPs.

You need to go to your local centre and ask. I don't think they can do anything also if you unsubscribe later...

And btw, I just got my iPhone 5 from Maxis today, but the weird thing is, why the hell does he need to activate the phone? Can't I do it myself? Or is it a standard procedure for the Maxis staffs to activate the iPhone 5s in the centre?

I didn't ask him, but I did hint him that I wanted him to leave the phone alone LOL but he macam very enjoy opening other people's iPhone. Lol. Hard hard want to open mine. I also lazy care so much already..

In DiGi, they let us open and check the Phone first, if not satisfied can request other unit, after that they only help insert the SIM. I like the DiGi way better. But that way 2 years ago though.

Overall no complaints lar.. Just a phone anyways.. Haha..

But I wanted to jump ship to Maxis but too bad they didn't offer the RM200 rebate for the iValue simple. Else would have signed up for the plan.

Ok so the Maxis engineers finally admitted that the iPhone 5 chipset is incompatible with their network at the moment. They are apparently working hard to resolve it and it affects all the Maxis i5 users. 6.1 should be released end of the month according to them and they will also release a carrier settings update soon. They should acknowledge this earlier on. Anyway I got all my bills waived by them and also some extra credit in the name of goodwill.

Just take it from them. It wont be usable. However got the multi sim system so you can apply for 2 sim cards with the same number smile.gif

*
That guy who opened and touched my iPhone before the real owner (me) touched it was more excited than I am LOL. He let me checked the IMEI and tick the "IMEI correct" box, then opened up and started to activate and bla bla. I felt weird but never mind lah, let him. Then he said "we need to activate it for you to setup and ensure it's working" or something. Thought want to be the first hand tho haha. XD

End up, he set my phone to chinese language @@

They don't even bother to take back mine. Immediately my card became "inactive" on the other phone.

Known issue which affects quite a lot of ip5

Some got the problem the moment they got their phone...some much later...seems like a sooner or later kinda thing...

From what I understand, to buy iPhone from Maxis, you need to get any Data Plan even if RRP... That is so dumb right? Forcing us to pay for the plan.

So this leads me to want to buy from Apple Store. But I qualify for the RM200 rebate. Does this means I can't use it for the Apple Store?

dude how would you expect Maxis to reply you by just telling them u just using facebook and browsing forum lowyat. dont forget there's alot of app running behind and it will consume data also. Facebook you can also easily reach 100mb if you watching video inside the facebook app. You want Maxisto give you explain but you just telling them you go for facebook and forum, who know in fact you watching half hours youtube inside facebook app? Maxis won't simply overcharge your data if you didnt overused it.

Actually, I think this is telco dependant. I had high usage like 150mb-200mb a day with Celcom, with the most being 1GB a day, which is nonsense. But recently the usage has gone down to 50-80mb a day, which is what I'd expect.

14 days to bill date and I still have 1.2 GB left.
Used it during the night when router is off, and when leaving the house.
Even used it to download apps and update things.

Maybe it's semester break so I stay at home more, hence less data usage. lol.

I guess so. Even then you should be able to reach places with free wifi at times. And don't forget we have 4 GB of Maxis Wifi (I don't know how useful, and I have not activated it yet even).

Moderate user should find it enough.

And now I wanna buy another iphone 5 16GB. Is it possible for me to purchase it outright without any plans in KLcc maxis centre this Friday? Hmm

From what you say you sound like a moderate user.. Should be enough unless you insta like nobody's business every minute then definitely not enough. Else it will do. Just turn off data for downloading iTunes content and updates etc if you're afraid of losing too much via these.

I turned data on for apps download and I still cannot use that much.

Actually it works like this:
- First it will use up 333 minutes for call to any local Telco.
- After that, the extra 1000 minutes is only for Maxis-to-Maxis calls.

Why that matters:
- Take example of you using the first 333 minutes for Maxis-to-Maxis calls, and the next day you're using up 333 minutes of calls for Maxis-to-others. You'll be charged ala-carte price for those out-of-network calls, albeit you're using the same amount of minutes. It's something like first come first serve.

Yeah, better make sure. And SMS to only Maxis/Hotlink numbersss.

Found a way to check whether the number belongs to maxis or other telcos. (Free)
Type "Check 0123456789" and send the SMS to 22011.
But hassle...

Hi, new iphone 5 user here too, I the first few days i had no issue with 3G. but last few days, it just turns off by itself, sometimes even Edge! and what i had to do was turn it off and on again. after that it is ok. So far in the past 5 days it has happened at least once a day.

Anybody also facing this issue?

Hi just want to know if I opt for installment plan.

How much would be the first payment?

RM100 (advance payment) + RM2079 / 12 months (I'm opting for iValue simple)?

or do I need to top up RM50 for the monthly fee as well?

Do advice. Thanks

Bro, please be advised that Maxis to maxis call will be deducted on 1000mins first, rest assure, 333 mins apply to others telco.

The bill is different.

Which means even you call maxis mobile number first, you will be using the 1000mins maxis-maxis quota.

Maxis will differentiate for u =)

Hopefully this help u.

or 1000+333 say if we call only maxis numbers.

read dude.. read it clearly
the 333 minutes is already mix
the 1000 minutes is the question.

but the real problem with maxis plans is
we dont get free sms to all telco's

been like that since the first iphone 3g/3gs plans.

Just want to ask regarding the Maxis contract. How much must I pay for the first time if I choose for iValue Simple? Is it 2079+100 and then 50/month. And what is rebated over 5 months under Advance Payment? Can someone clarify about Maxis hidden fees. Sorry for the noob questions.

Rebate over 5 months means the advanced payment will be divided equally to pay your future 5 months bills. So you pay RM2079 + RM100 at the counter for the first time.

The next bill will be prorated to your official bill date (e.g. your bill date is 10 Feb, so the first bill will come as 3 Feb to 10 Feb, which is 7 days. Amount to pay is RM50/30days*7days), and this will not be covered in the advanced bill payment.

The next complete one month cycle of the bill (i.e. 11 Feb to 11 March), will be RM50 + service charge (6%?). But since you paid RM100 for 5 months (or RM20 for a month), you "payable amount" will be RM50-RM20=RM30 for the rest of 5 months. However you need to ensure that your previous bill has been cleared to be eligible to receive then RM20 rebate for your coming bill.

---
EDIT: If you exceed the internet quota, no hidden fees will be charged but the speed will be awfully throttled. This applies to all iValue plans but not the non-iValue plans from I can see.

Hi I'm new to maxis postpaid plan. Have been using Hotlink for many years. I'm interested in the ivalue simple plan coz I don't really use much credit to call or text, just for data plan. I would like to ask how much I have to pay a month if I choose the iPhone 5 16gb plan? Kinda blur on this. Thanks.

PS: The amount I have to pay for the first time is the price of the phone + rm100? Is that right?

Hi I'm new to maxis postpaid plan. Have been using Hotlink for many years. I'm interested in the ivalue simple plan coz I don't really use much credit to call or text, just for data plan. I would like to ask how much I have to pay a month if I choose the iPhone 5 16gb plan? Kinda blur on this. Thanks.

PS: The amount I have to pay for the first time is the price of the phone + rm100? Is that right?

Yup, you have to pay RM2079 + RM100 (Advance fee). That RM100 will be used to deduct your first 5 month's bill.

And remember that there's GST of 6% imposed to the total amount of your bill.

if anyone still can't find the iphone5 model they want, you might wanna check out their new online store ( which just opened ) . You can order from there.
