FAQ for Maxis iPhone launch and sale event:

1. Is it possible to convert to postpaid plan on the launching day when I buy the Iphone 4S do I need to change to postpaid prior to the iPhone 4S launching event? Which route will speed up the process of buying?
Ans:We wish to confirm that you may change from Prepaid to Postpaid during the launch event. However, to speed up the process, we would recommend you to switch to Postpaid prior to the event. Do note that pro-rated charges will apply.

2. Will I be able to buy the iPhone 4S outright on the launching day? (Assuming I have bought one with an iValue contract)
Ans:At this juncture, we do not have any information yet in regards to any outright purchase and we are offering the device under contract.

3. I have ROI a white model 16GB, is it possible to change that requirement on the launching day?
Ans: Our iPhone4S will be allocated based on the ROI, any changes will depend on stock availability.

4. I wish to give the iPhone as a gift, is it possible to keep the unit sealed when buying? (Looks better sealed as a gift)
Ans: The reason we unseal the unit on the spot is to enable you to inspect your purchase before committing to your device. Unsealing will be done as careful as possible so as to avoid any damage to your iPhone4S box.

5. I got the confirmation email for 16 Dec 12am, does that mean that as long I queue up for my time slot I will be guaranteed the purchase of the iPhone 4S?
Ans:The quantity of the iPhone4S for each time slot will be based on the initial ROI received by us. Should you receive your confirmation e-mail, you will be able to secure your device. Do note that you will have to Queue up, and we regret to inform you that at this juncture we are unable to advice you of the queue time frame.

6. Can you tell me the agenda for the pre launch event?
Ans: At this juncture, we are not able to advice on the agenda of the launch event yet.

7. Is the iPhone 4S being sold in the pre launch event or the sale only starts at 12 am?
Ans: The iPhone 4S will be sold from 16 December 2011 on 12am.

8. Can I bring along another friend to go into the hall together?
Ans: Yes,you may bring a friend to accompany you during the launch.

9. Will my friend who did not get the confirmation email be able to buy the iPhone 4S with contract by using my confirmation mail if we along together?
Ans: The iPhone 4S will only be available to those who have received the confirmation by email.

10. Will the ticket number be given out to the pre-launch attendees to buy the iPhone 4S at 12am?
Ans: Yes, there will be a queue number for our customers for every time slot.

11. My slot is at 16 Dec 12am, can I queue at the pre-launch event to get a queue number?
Ans: We do recommend you to come early due to the high demand of the iPhone 4S by our customers.

12. Can another person collect the queue number on behalf?
Ans: The queue number may not be collected by a third party as you will need to provide your identification & confirmation email as a verification.

13. How many friends can be brought into the pre-launch event?
Ans:At this juncture, we do not have any limit as to how many friends you may bring, but this may change. Do note that though you are allowed to bring your friends to the pre-launch event, only those with the confirmation email may walk in to the registration hall.

Commonly Asked Questions on Maxis iPhone 4/4S/5:

Collection (credits to leecwai)

QUOTE
So far I have called up Maxis twice, and reconfirm again with them. Only need these for iPhone pick up:

1) I/C
2) Confirmation letter
3) Deposit receipt

*Those who registered for the phone under a supplementary line will need to bring along the principal line (with I/C) owner during collection.

Maxis will register the mobile # that you want to tie with their plan, but the catch is the mobile # must be registerED under your name. Same applied to Hotlink. No sim required but the number must be register under the buyer's name.

If you don't have a prepaid and do not want to buy a prepaid card, basically you can give the free data to your family members or friends by changing the prepaid register name to your name.

Changing of name is free but must be done in Maxis center. (The original owner must be there
to change the registered name)

QUOTE
> What firmware does Maxis 4/4S/5 iPhone comes with?
- It comes with iOS 6.0.1

> Does it come jailbroken?
- No

> Can I jailbreak the iPhone?
- User's preference. Warranty will be void unless a full restore is done before sending it back for warranty

> Can I trade in my old iPhone 2G/3G/3GS/4/4S for Maxis iPhone 5?
- A trade-in counter may be available at the launch event

> Can I use it with other telcos since it's unlock and any forumers using?
- Yes. There are forumers using on different telcos.

> Can I use it overseas?
- Yes, on officially unlocked 4/4S/5 iPhones. Place the simcard and and you're ready to use. You can use the services of various GSM based carriers around the world.

Commonly Asked Questions on Rate Plans, Data Usage, Call/SMS Charges, Warranty:

Rate Plans:
QUOTE
> Can I purchase iPhone 4/4S/5 from Maxis without subscribing to any sort of contracts?
- Yes. You can purchase your iPhone via Hotlink (Prepaid) plans. However, you must first be registered for a postpaid iPhone 4/4S/5 plan.

> Can I purchase iPhone 4/4S/5 from Maxis via the Hotlink plan but use it on my Maxis postpaid or on other telco (Digi, Celcom)?
- Yes. That's the beauty of official-unlock/outright purchase. However, the Hotlink plans do come with a free 500MB data usage per month, for a year. If you decided to use the phone on another plan or telco, you're basically 'dumping' the free data bundle that comes with it.

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can I switch to any of the iValue Plans and get the iPhone 4/4S/5 at subsidized price?
- Yes. Contact Maxis Customer Service or Maxis Centre for more details.

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can I subscribe to iValue and maintain my supplementary line(s)?
- Yes. You can still keep your supplementary line(s).

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can pair my current plan with iData and get the iPhone 4/4S/5 at subsidized price?
- Yes. Do choose from iData 30, 50 or 99 according to your preference or data usage pattern.

> I'm currently on a supplementary line. Can I switch to iValue on my own?
- No. You will need to request your principal line subscriber to book on your behalf.

> Can I pair any of the iValue and iData plans together?
- No. iValue is a standalone plan and iData can only be paired with Value Plan/Plus or any supplementary lines.

> I'm currently using an iPhone 2G/3G/3GS/4/4S/5 from Singtel/overseas, am I entitled to get the free 500MB data bundle per month if I have/get a Hotlink prepaid number from Maxis?
- No. You will need to have/get a Hotlink prepaid number and purchase an iPhone 4/4S/5 from Maxis to be entitled for the data bundle.

Upgrade/Downgrade of Plans:
QUOTE
> Policy-wise it is not clearly spelled out, so some people may not do it. For those who will do it, by terminating the service (eg. iData 2) to assign a new one (eg. iData 3) will trigger the penalty to kick-in, which will require a waiver which will require approval.

Data Usage:
QUOTE
> Is iData/iValue's 500MB/1GB data bundle sufficient for casual surfing?
- Yes. Based on feedback from few forummers, Facebook, YouYube, IM, Surfing, Apps download and updates take up roughly 500MB per month. Just an estimation though. If you're an heavy user on downloads and YouTube, do take up higher capacity data bundle.
(Note that the allocated data per month is fixed for every month and cannot be carried forward)

QUOTE
Example: (credits to nokia2003)
i don't jailbreak and tether my iPhone (important piece of information) and i'm on the 250MB/month. let me illustrate on, my typical average usage per day; i'm perpetually on LYN (not the lite version), retrieve and reply e-mails (6 accounts), read news (from different sites), moderate another forum, blog hopping, IM chatting and the odd apps updating. i typically, spend approximately 6 hours away from my home during university days and rely heavily on the optus 3G network of course. also bear in mind that i have never exceeded my data allowance. this website should also be helpful to estimate your usage.

user posted image

> I've read about few forummers about subscribing to the Unlimited Data Plan for RM99 rather than iData 3 (capped at 3GB) if you're a heavy data usage user, is it really unlimited?
- From a reliable Maxis source, it is confirmed that even the Unlimited Data Plan for RM99 is also capped at 3GB, which means it's exactly the same as iData on the capped usage (3GB).

> What will be the data usage charges for all the iData plans if I've exceeded the free data bundle given?
- Additional usage will be charged at 0.5 sens/kb.

Call/SMS Charges:
QUOTE
> Does the iValue plan includes any SMS usage?
- No. You will have to pay extra for any SMS you sent, 10 sens/SMS
(You can subscribe to RM8 SMS package from Maxis which allows you to send up to 500 SMS per month to Maxis numbers)

> I'm currently on Value Plus 50 and have supplementary lines on Family Plus 30, calls from main-supp, supp-main, supp-supp are free. If I switch to iValue, will I still able to enjoy free calls with my supplementary lines?
- Yes. With the new revised iValue plans, calls & SMS made to and from your supp lines will remain free. (subjected to Family Plus T&C) (UPDATED)

> What will be the call charges for all the iValue plans if I've exceeded the free minutes given?
- The call rates will be at a flat rate to all networks. (including to Maxis numbers)
- eg. iValue 1 (Free 333 minutes): Additional calls made to Maxis/other networks are 15 sens/min.

Warranty:
QUOTE
> How long is the warranty period for Maxis iPhone 4S/4?
- The warranty is up to 2 years from the date of purchase and cannot be extended. (ACPP might be available, to be confirmed)
(Even if your contract with Maxis is for 2 years, the warranty is valid for 2 years)

> What kind of damages does the warranty cover against?
- Just like the policy of any other mobile phone distributor, the warranty covers against any software/hardware failures and damages that are not self-caused or due to self-negligence. (eg. drops, water damages)
(Warranty will be void if you jailbreak your iPhone. Do a restore before sending in for warranty)

> If my iPhone is faulty, can I send in to Maxis and request for 1-to-1 exchange?
- In most cases, 1-to-1 is done for faulty sets. But you might need to wait if the specific centre don't have ready stocks. And take note that for the experience of past Maxis iPhone users, a refurbished set will be given for the exchange.

> I've just bought a used Maxis iPhone 4/4S/5. What do I need to do when I wanted to send in my phone to Maxis for warranty?
- To claim warranty you need the person who bought the iPhone which is under his/her name to be present. Requires I/C (of original owner) and warranty card.
*UPDATE: According to a personnel from Machines, having the Warranty Service Card is suffice for warranty purpose.(credits to tinkerbel)

Rate Plan Recommendations:
QUOTE
> Which plan suits me the most? There are so many plans and I'm confused!
- It all depends on your monthly usage of calls, SMS and data. Below are some recommendations:

Postpaid users
1. Utilise more calls than SMS per month, utilise data usage as well (substantial or not) and don't mind being contracted, go for iValue plans.

2. Would like to use your iPhone to do some casual surfing and don't mind being contracted, sign up for the iData plans, choose one which suits your data usage pattern most.

3. Utilise quite a substantial amount of data usage per month but not willing to being contracted under iValue or iData, you can get your iPhone via Hotlink, keep your current postpaid plan and subscribe to Maxis's RM99 Unlimited Data plan. (not under iData plan, but still capped at 3GB per month)

Prepaid users
1. You would still want to enjoy 500MB of data bundle every month for a year (without being contracted), get the iPhone under Hotlink plans.
> Get the Hotlink Youth Club simpack at RM8.80 if you're under 25 and you'll get 4 years validity (with minimum top up of RM10 per year) or
> Get a normal Hotlink simpack, subscribe to Hotlink 365 (maintain prepaid line validity for a year) for:
Subscription is RM33 (one time) + RM30 (min top-up within 1st 6 months) = RM63
**Both will ensure your prepaid line will be valid 24/7 to receive the 500MB data bundle!

My contract for Iphone plan 1GB already up, but the RM100++ bill is quite high for me and I didn't utilized much (except for data where I averagely use about 700mb as I normally lazy to connect to wifi even at home/office as I know I wouldn't reach limit)

http://www.maxis.com.my/internet/

it seems now they have a new plan that comes with data package besides the idata/iphone plan. Thinking of switching to this.

But problem is I'm contemplating the VPI50/80.

Is 250mb sufficient if I on all notifications (except email) ,occasional browsing and fb (quite a lot on this but no video, just read through status and picture browsing)

individual is kinda subjective but in my case, average usage for FB, notifications, whatsapp, web browing and minimal youtube is less than 500MB (normally 400++) a month, the highest recorded was 700-800MB when I did tethering. smile.gif

anyway, I don't see the VPI50/80 that comes with 250MB of internet usage monthly on Maxis website. it will be good to share on this thread if you can provide me with the link/information? icon_rolleyes.gif
