First things first, Jailbreak discussion is now allowed back on iPhone sub-forum, as per HERE.
In order to maintain this thread to all who loves to customize their phone, getting tweaks and apss that being unapproved by Apple, please keep this thread clean of piracy. Please don't show a hint of piracy post here.
All post that linked to piracy will be reported, and the red tags won't go easy on you. So for the sake of we Jailbreakers, please don't post anything about piracy. Not even a slight hint of it or post will be reported, and offenders will be banned.
Say NO to piracy!!
TAKE NOTE:
QUOTE(davidgary73 @ Apr 21 2011, 02:27 PM)
To addon, since Jailbreak topic is allowed again, some forumers ignored the RULES and we have many reports on forumers posting on piracy.
To deter forumers from posting on piracy, mods or TS of this thread will close this thread for 7 days given as said below:
1) If someone who on their 1st offence post about piracy, warning will be served. If he or another person post about piracy, close thread for 7 days.
2) If someone who did post on piracy before (got reported and warned or even banned ) close thread for 7 days.
Plus, you have the permission to scold/critc them for causing this thread close due to them not taking note on RULES where we have stated NO PIRACY DISCUSSION ALLOWED via this thread, the pinned threads + LYN RULES.
When there's no piracy in discussion, this thread can live on without closure.
Why are we doing this and is this fair? Well, some forumers just don't learn after they were given warning or even account suspension (7-30 days) and still post on piracy and NOT read the RULES. They went against the RULES again n again and hence this is the only option we can use to deter piracy discussion.
So, anyone who post on piracy, please shoot them and teach them a lesson for causing this thread close for 7 days. And yes, they will be given warning as well and maybe account suspension for those 2nd offenders. 3rd time offenders, bye bye..
Given with this WARNING on the subtopic "READ: STRICTLY NO DISCUSSION ON PIRACY", if you can't even read and still post on piracy, you will be given 7 days account suspension from LYN STAFF as you densely well deserved it.
Cheers
Thinking of jailbreaking your phone? Don't know where to get the latest information about Jailbreak? Got loads of question but don't know where to ask? Then this is the right place for you to have a good read, to prepare yourself before jailbreak, to guide you on how to jailbreak, and to ask questions where you don't know who to ask.
Section A : Jailbreak Basic and common terms of Jailbreaking
1) Jailbreak Basic Jailbreaking is the process by which an iPhone firmware is modified to allow unsigned code to be run to gain access to files that Apple wouldn’t normally let you access. Jailbreaking adds unofficial application installers to your iPhone.
The risks of jailbreaking your iPhone are very minor. Worst case scenario, you can always restore your iPhone to factory settings using iTunes.

2) What is Jailbreak?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
2.1) What Does Jailbreaking Mean?
Jailbreaking, or “hacking” is giving a user read/write access to otherwise locked OS files on your iPhone.
It gives you access to app stores like Cydia that offer programs that you won’t see in Apple’s popular counterpart. It’ll even give you the ability to customize the background of your home screen and change the look of your icons and menu colors.
Starting in early fall after the summer 2007 release of the original iPhone, jailbreaking began as a fairly complicated multi-step process. Things have definitely evolved over the last few years and the online jailbreaking community for iPhones is estimated in the millions (if you’re reading this article on this site, that number shouldn’t surprise you) with hundreds of blogs and forums scattered throughout the web dedicated to this crazy thing called jailbreaking.
Cydia creator Jay Freeman estimates that more than 10% of all iPhones are jailbroken.
2.2) What Are the Benefits of Jailbreaking?
Lacking in able to customize how your iPhone looks compare to the other millions of other iPhone is sure a big issue for most people. Apps like Winterboard from Cydia that allow me to customize my home screen, change the look of my lock screen, and change the overall theme of my iPhone. I can make my iPhone look completely different than the way it does when you open the box for the first time. So much to the point where people will ask me what kind of phone I’ve got when it’s in an unmarked silicon case.
iOS weakness in notification can also be tweak well by apps such as notifyme.
Some might also argue that the lockscreen is way to plain and is a waste of space, hence lockinfo came into help.
All these are the few benefits or Jailbreaking.
2.3) What Are the Risks of Jailbreaking?
Now, although jailbreaking has become increasingly easier, there are still very complicated risks that go with it.
An underground group of programmers known as the Dev Team, for the most part, spearheads all this jailbreak technology without Apple’s permission.
Every time they find a way in, Apple comes along and puts another barricade up with a software update that closes the entrance they had. Then they have to find another way in. It's a cat and mouse game.
Several times during jailbreaks, mine would be stuck in phone purgatory for hours. Take just a few moments to browse any iPhone forum with jailbreaking topics and you’re sure to find several comments along the lines of “help! I tried to jailbreak my iPhone and now it’s been stuck on the Apple logo for hours, help!”
So things definitely can go wrong, but generally it’s user error.
So what can you do if you face such a problem? Please read the spoiler as below:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Sometimes when jailbreaking an iPhone or after installing a jailbreak app, your iPhone will get stuck on reboot, or will hang on the Apple logo. This problem happened to me before and it was kind of a nightmare. In order to get your iPhone back on track, you will have to put it in DFU mode (Device Firmware Update mode). This will help you restore your iPhone without loading the OS first.
Putting you iPhone into DFU mode should be used as a last resort if your iPhone is either stuck on the Apple logo or keeps rebooting.
1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes.
2. Hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
3. After exactly 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10 seconds or until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. At this point, click OK, then click “Restore” in iTunes.
Note that it often takes several attempts to get your iPhone in DFU mode.
Check out this video for a detailed explanation.
2.4) Is Jailbreaking Legal?
Yes it is. Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking is legal in the United States, although it voids Apple's device warranty. It is also legal in many other countries including those of the EU.
2.5) What to Keep in Mind?
But the cat and mouse game with Apple shows no sign of stopping as the Dev Team is furiously at work to break into the latest iPhone software to release to the public. Jailbreaking gives you complete control over your iPhone from customizing to 3rd party apps that didn’t for one reason or another end up on Apple’s App Store.
In fact the Cydia store is home to a lot of misfit apps that fell victim to Apple’s ever popular App screening process. Well, now that you’ve heard some background on jailbreaking, you’ve learned some of the benefits and risks, you may now make the choice, to jailbreak or not to jailbreak, that is the question.
2.6) Why Not Jailbreak?
Jailbreaking your iPhone automatically voids the warranty. However this is not really a problem as you can always restore your iPhone in iTunes, putting it back to its factory settings. This will make it impossible for Apple to see you jailbroke your iPhone, thus not voiding your warranty.
In the past, some jailbreak methods were not very stable and sometimes turned your iPhone into an iBrick aka an expensive paper weight. Jailbreak methods are now very stable and I have yet to hear about someone bricking his iPhone while jailbreaking.
HOWEVER, there are also security issues that stop people from Jailbreaking.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The first iPhone worm appeared in early November 2009, created by 21-year-old Australian technical college student Ashley Towns of Wollongong. He told Australian media that he created the worm to raise awareness of security issues. "When people jailbreak their phone, it allows them to install a service on their phone called SSH... Generally you should always change the password after setting up an iPhone as all iPhones use the same password by default. This worm exploits people's tendency to not change the default password, changing their iPhone's wallpaper to Rick Astley. This virus was called iKee. This Virus could cause damage to any iDevice.
On 22 November 2009, F-Secure reported on a new malicious worm compromising bank transactions from jailbroken phones in the Netherlands.
2.7) Is Jailbreak hard? I am not a tech geek at all, HELP!
Read the tutorial below, and many other sites if you wish. You don’t need to have a PhD in computer science to jailbreak your iPhone. It’s very simple and straightforward. If you can download 2 files and click “next” when prompted, then you can jailbreak your iPhone.
--
3) Tethered and Untethered Jailbreaking
A tethered jailbreak requires that the device be connected to a computer each time it needs to be booted into a jailbroken state. An untethered jailbreak allows the device to be powered off and rebooted without affecting the jailbreak, i.e., without requiring that it be reconnected to a computer. When iOS updates are released, software to perform tethered jailbreaks is often released before untethered jailbreaking software becomes available to the public.
--
4) The Difference Between Jailbreaking and Unlocking
There's always a lot of confusion about jailbreaking and unlocking.
Unlocking is the removal of SIM restrictions on the modem, allowing the use of the iPhone on any carrier.
There are 2 types of iPhone unlocks: - software unlock: the iPhone is unlocked by a software - hardware unlock: modification have to be made to the actual hardware to unlock the phone
To software unlock an iPhone, one must jailbreak first, giving the user full access of the device to do such a thing. For newer devices, this process usually involves downloading ultrasn0w from Cydia. One alternative to software unlocking is to buy a factory unlocked iPhone. These iPhones come SIM unlocked straight from Apple and don't require to be jailbroken using third party software.

5) Some other Common Jailbreak Terms
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
5.1) SHSH Blobs
A lot of people ask about this one and why Cydia wants to save them. When you upgrade firmware in iTunes, you’ll see at the top when you start a restore “Verifying restore with Apple”. Apple only signs current firmware versions. If you accidentally upgrade and then try to downgrade, your restore will fail. SHSH blobs save you from this headache. It will basically give iTunes a fake hand to shake, which in turn, makes iTunes think your restore has been verified. This can be a life saver if you accidentally upgrade and need to downgrade. TinyUmbrella will save SHSH blobs to the Cydia server as well. I highly recommend saving your blobs for every firmware version in case you ever find yourself in this predicament.
Instructions for saving your SHSH:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Download and run Tiny Umbrella and make sure your iDevice is detected. Check “Advanced Options.” Under “Device / Version,” select the firmware version you want to Save (You can only restore to versions that have SHSH saved). Click on “Save my SHSH.” Repeat to save other firmware hashes if you wish. Now, click on “Display SHSHs.” It should listed all hashes you have saved on your computer for all your iDevices.
Instructions for restoring:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Backup iDevice in iTunes and then close iTunes. Open TinyUmbrella and make sure you dont get any errors on startup or else you will need to make sure that port 80 is open and that your host file is not set to Read-Only. Click on Start “TSS server,” Download firmware you wish to restore to from here: iPhone/iPodTouch Open Itunes and use the Shift/Option + Restore method to choose the firmware file you wish to restore to (Upgrade button cannot be used) After your firmware is restored you might get a 1004 error. Not to worry, simply click “Kick Device out of Recovery” if you get it. Restore Settings from Backup in iTunes and sync.
5.2 Baseband
*This only matters to those who have an iPhone that are not officially unlocked.
The baseband is essentially the part of your device that controls the antennae. This has everything to do with your service and signal. This is why most unlockers have to be extremely careful when upgrading. If the baseband changes, it can permanently keep them from achieving an unlock. This is the main reason most unlockers tend to favor PwnageTool. It creates a custom firmware bundle for you to upgrade to that doesn’t upgrade the baseband, only the main OS. If you are running on a legitimate carrier and don’t care about unlocking, the baseband it typically less of a concern. Wifi and Bluetooth don’t run on the baseband either, so iPod touch or iPad owners typically don’t have concerns when it comes to new baseband versions.
5.3 Recovery Mode/DFU Mode
Many people still confuse these two terms. They ARE different. There IS an easy way to tell which mode your phone is in. If your screen shows a connect to iTunes logo with a slide for emergency option, you are in recovery mode. If the slide for emergency option is not there and you only see the connect to iTunes logo, you are in DFU mode (DFU mode can also present as a blank screen as well).
The main difference between these two modes is what they will and won’t bypass for installs. Recovery mode will implement iBoot (basically a portion of the bootloader than runs an integrity check) which will not allow you to downgrade your device. DFU mode will still talk to iTunes but it bypasses iBoot which will then allow you to downgrade firmware. Most jailbreaks will require DFU mode for these reasons. To enter DFU mode, you will follow these steps: Turn off your iPhone Hold down your power and home buttons Release the power button when the Apple logo appears, but continue holding down the home button. You should be presented with a Connect to iTunes logo. Plug in your phone and iTunes should yell at you and say you must restore the device before it can be used.

7) So my phone already Jailbreak, but now I want to update to new OS with newer Jailbreak, how to restore so I don't lost everything?
For example the case is, my iPhone is 4.2.1 Jailbroken. Since 4.3.1 Jailbreak is out, I want to update to 4.3.1 and jailbreak it too, but I don't want to lose all my apps.
This is how you should do: (still work in progress)
1) 4.2.1 (jailbroken) 2) Backup all of those data(apps,songs etc) 3) Upgrade to 4.3.1 4) JAILBREAK FIRST.DONT RESTORE BACKUP YET 5) Sync/restore your iPhone

After updating your jailbreaked iPhone to a new firmware it is always advised to set you phone as a new phone during the first sync after updating and jailbreaking. This will save you from battery drainage, unexpected reboot, hanging etc. If you set your phone as a new phone you will loose many valuable data like Received SMS, Contacts, Call History, Notes, Calender etc. To overcome this problem you are advised to manually backup your iPhone data before updating your iPhone to new firmware. The process is very easy all you need is a Jailbreaked iPhone with SSH installed already. Now follow our guide to access file system of your iPhone here How to Access iPhone via SSH on Windows Mac ” Now follow the paths given below and copy save the certain files mentioned below.
How to backup Contacts :
Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook There will be two files save them on your computer. How to backup Messages :
Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS Save sms.db on your computer How to backup Calendar:
Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/Calendar Copy Calendar.sqlitedb to your computer How to backup Notes:
Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/Notes Copy notes.db and notes.idx to your computer How to backup your Call History:
Navigate to /var/mobile/Library/CallHistory/ copy call_history.db to your computer To restore these databases after updating and jailbreaking navigate to specified paths and replace the files with you copied and saved earlier.

Section D : Cydia Store (and tips on how to protect your home button & on off button !)
Apple has the App Store, jailbreakers have Cydia in addition to the default App Store. And if you want to be technical, Cydia was THE first App Store. It was available with iOS 1.x and allowed jailbreakers to download apps before the App Store even existed. Those who jailbroke their first generation iPhones on 1.x have seen several jailbreak ideas and concepts become parts of iOS. We would mention Rock here, but seeing as Cydia acquired Rock, there’s probably no point now. Another term you may hear when it comes to Cydia is repos, or repositories. These are simply sources you add in the manage section. ModMyi and BigBoss are two of the largest. They are already added when you install Cydia. You are always welcome to add custom repos if you choose. I highly advise only adding repos from trusted sources. If you have a weird feeling about adding it, I’d probably pass.
Okay, so we talk about jailbreak. You heard the wonders you can do about it. So what is it?
We all know that an app need to be approved by apple first before it will be up on the appstore. We all also know apple love to reject apps that they don't like or mess with them.
Below are a few wonderful stuff that I download from Cydia store and I will do a short review of it. Anyone can review an app and I will post it up here if the review is properly done.
How to protect your home button & on off button !, With some tweaks ~ (credits to cocooh)
iPhone home button is quite fragile since well, it's the only real button that we always use on our phone. Ever since multitasking was introduced to iOS, we use it even more which lead to cases of faulty home button become a bigger problem.
Thanks to cocooh, he had shared with us a few tips on how to minimize the usage of our home button, and also the on off button with some nice Jailbreak tweaks.
QUOTE(cocooh @ Apr 9 2011, 04:36 PM)
Here is my few tricks in order to protect / minimal the usage of homescreen button and on / off button
For multitasking - install Multifl0w , a brilliant multitasking tweak which can be activated using another tweak called Activator using hand gestures
For lock / unlock your device - Quicklock 2 / Shake to lock tweak . Both runs great for preventing from pressing too much on / off button as it will wears off eventually .
As for the homescreen button , it needs to be press at the most one time per unlock , which this has been minimized into a minimum amount of usage for it
To quit apps - Multicleaner / MT Gesture - you can assign it with Activator to quit apps at holding the infobar or double tap on infobar to quit all apps / MT Gestures enable multi touch function which is more convenient and best of all , you can close non-infobar apps with ease
Extra tweaks : mQuickDo or better known as iHome button - Series of gestures which can be set which will act as the real Homescreen button function
All these tweaks are available through Cydia and some needs purchase
Hope this will save your money from repairing faulty homescreen button or on / off button
Some short reviews of good app/tweak: (Credits to Eiraku)

1) Cleanstatus - Cleans up your status bar easily. 2) Activator - You didn't JB because of this meh? 3) EnchancedTabs - Makes safari more bearable. 4) FBPhotosave - Does what it says on the can. 5) Fakeclockup - Speeds up iOS animations, but needs the (glorious) miyoshi repo (hitoriblog.com/apt). Also consider Springtomize. Also the latest version is buggy, try finding the older one on Google (and this is a free app mind you). 6) Backgrounder + MultiFl0w + Multicleaner - better task management and multi-tasking. Needs each other because BGer is boring without MF, and MF sucks at properly closing certain apps (badges are not updated, etc), so it needs MCer. 7) HapticPro - If you don't know what it means, you're better off without it. Adds vibrations every time you touch a link or a button. Sucks battery, unless you tune it to a lower setting (and it will still suck battery, only less lol). 8) Lockdown Pro - Lock your apps with a password. 9) SafariDownloadManager - The only proper DM for iOS. Only for those with huge or unlimited data quotas. 10) Screendimmer - My attempt to counter the increased battsuck from HapticPro. Dims the screen after some time, ala Nokia phones. 11) Folderenhancer - Makes folders less pretty, but far more usable. 12) Swipetomovecursor - Another treasure from miyoshi's repo. Swipe a iOS textbox back or front to move the cursor. Fails when used in website textboxes though. 13) Actionmenu - I thought I didn't need it until installed it. 14) Manualcorrect - Hate the autocorrect system? Install this and make iOS auto correct you only when you WANT it to. 15) Startdial - Make Phone.app start in whichever page you want it to. 16) Celeste - Bluetooth sharing aka the holy grail of apps. Fails to recieve nearly all the time though, and is still crap buggy with Nokia phones. But to be able to answer, "Wait ah, I bluetooth this picture to you" to your non-iPhone using relatives/friends is simply priceless. 17) 3GUnrestrictor - Use 3G to Facetime or download huge apps from the AppStore. Data sucker, use with caution. 18) User Agent Faker - Give Safari an identity crisis, and make it think it's Firefox (sans flash of course). 19) BluSelect/YFiSelect4 - Quick bluetooth pairing/WIFI switching without ever going into Settings. 20) Cyntacts/iPicMyContacts - Gives you contact thumbnails in the Addressbook/Contacts.app. iPMC gives you the ability to assign your own pics from a google/FB search as well but is slow compares to Cyntacts. 21) NoWiggle - I hated the wiggle on editing and the version of FakeClockUp I'm using wiggles them real fast. So I ditched them altogether.

Phew, awesome! Otherwise have to go to MMi to discuss Pecah Penjara.
Jailbroke my iPhone 4 last night .... got my Homesharing now wohoooo .... process was simple enough (but then again, I've been jailbreaking since 3.1.2 heh heh heh)
Cydia was bit unstable last night ... Big Boss was not loading, sometimes get error for the MMi repo .... other than that, everything was peachy. MobileSubstrate crashed as well (the iPhone 4 is damn stable though, this is like my 1st crash since I got the phone 2 months ago)
Got my SBSetting which I cannot live without ... now waiting for the iPad2 JB, hope they release the comex exploit for 4.3 at least.
Woohoo, now we can discuss on jb..so,anyone has tested the new 4.3.1 redsn0w jailbreak yet??is it stable or does it have some bugs here n there?? i'm currently jbroken on ios 4.1 using limera1n..so far,it is perfect for me,i even can view flash item now..planning to jb with the new 4.3.1

Me Me! It's stable, but some of the cydia apps just won't work.
PS: Can we discuss about cydia apps available via the cydia store? If it is allowed, then I will post the list of apps that works with 4.3.1

What do u mean some of cydia apps doesn't work??could u give me an example of those apps??
Some apps may not compatible with new ios until they release new version. For example bitesms, you need to check their change log to see if it support version iOS4.3.1
can i ask question? i have jailbreak my iphone 3gs, 4.1 if im not mistaken..using greenpoison, after i follow all instruction, the jailbreak it's a sukses, then when re boot, it stuck at apple logo..btw, im using windows laptop..it will stuck at the logo until the battery drained....after that, i try to jb it once again but it fails. help me jb gurus

Restore back 4.1 (if got shsh saved), then try again.
currently with ios 4.2.1 jb-ed greenpois0n rc6.1, plan to move on with RedSn0w 0.9.6rc9 untethered jailbreak. one question, after re-jailbroken, will my apps (including contacts, saved game data) stay?
Since, JB is allowed in iPhone section, how about iPad section? can we discuss there?
Go ahead. It's open for discussion for iPad subforum as well as in iPod subforum section.

in my opinion, 1st offence a warn will suffice since he might not know it (i say might, not flame me)
2nd offence means repeating and know liao, 3 days is good.
3rd offence 30days i also agree
4th shud be just perma ban

how you do for step no. (2) Backup all of those data(apps, songs etc)?
Guys, just a quick question about jailbreak. Will jailbreak cause any problems to itunes backup?
What I mean is, let say I jailbreak my phone right now and I synced with iTunes to backup all my data in the phone.
And after some time, I decide to go back default. Will all the data that I backup via iTunes during the jailbreak period able to be to restore back to the phone?

Thanks for the feedback friend. Was thinking to jailbreak my phone to get some Cydia apps, but I afraid the data that backup during jailbreak period will be unusable when I got back default thus I was holding my steps. Especially my contacts and emails.
you think your wink wink is good enough to cover you up?
aiyaa i know la it's my fault, thats why i said sorry.. not my intention la.just giving info on how to backup n restore the jb'ed things properly.. my sincere apologies.
For his "wink", 10% warning and 1 day account suspension on the way.
This is what happens when we have JB threads. Forumers just don't read the topic and pinned threads which stated no piracy related disucssion.
This is not something nice to do when it comes to giving forumers account suspension but hey, don't blame me for reporting as the rules stated not to discussion on piracy.
Oh well, lesson learned perhaps but not many learn well rite samlee860407? Hahaha

for me the safe method is to backup ur contact into outlook or webmail account (at least u got another copy somewhere). u wont know if ios update will cause some other issue.

I believe that once these rules are enforced, slowly they will learned.
If they do not, then I think back to square 1 like last time liao.
Question,i currently use the Awesome Note Lite (that's a free app,not pirated one)..i use it to store vital informations like acc. no,usernames n passwords etc n even locked the folders..is it possible to retain those valuable infos after i jailbreak to the newest version??

is your iphone is a locked set or unlocked set ? normally that kind of error comes from a locked set which needed you to use the authorised sim in order to activate, use the phone.
I hate Outlook syncing of contacts as some of my contacts has multiple phone numbers and outlook cannot handle all the fields.
iTunes will backup all your settings (wifi password) and contacts. Once these things are restored, you can then re-syncs all your apps that you have bought from iTunes.
I'm not sure what steps I missed last night but all my folder setup went haywire and all the apps were outside their folders so I had to go and set it up again whic is a pain. All my contacts were restored properly.
I do find that sometimes a couple of reboots will do the phone a lot of good.

backup and restore will bring back your safe data (finger cross).
are you able to export out the data?

Yea. Thanks true! But another thing is the saved game, as we all some other official apps data (like iFitness & Moneybook). That is no way to backup beside sync with iTunes. Which is quite worry for me. Will appreciate if there is more input about this matter.
my set is from maxis, unlocked set.. i want to upgrade to 4.3.1 thats why i backup my files, restore it to factory setting.. and now it keep poping up insert valid sim card..damn im clueless..gimme 5 mins guys to work this out, i think d answer shud be around internet

If it's an iTunes app I think the settings are saved once you restore your backup and also re-syncs the app. I have SPB Wallet and all the data in there will be restored once I restore my backup and the apps is re-sync to my iPhone. Same thing with my PocketMoney.
yes i did few times, i even borrow my frens sim card to try it with...
now i go here n there, it show restore in progress..perhaps after i restore to factory setting, i need to disconnect my phone and now restore (sync) back the old data? Time remaining is around 10 minutes, so i just wait first. thanks for prompt reply guys.
BTW, if i want to JB this 4.3.1, is there any unthethred version? sometimes it sucks when iphone is dead when u travelling and u need a computer just to restart it.

I'm also thinking of that (export) but only as a last resort..i just wanted to know if there's a highway of doing that..thanks for your input

Jailbroken 4.3.1 using Redsnow, smooth sail all the way. What I did was restore it to factory settings and set it as a new phone...just to make sure that all my previous jailbrake data is completely erased (previously using Greenpoison)...even with that method, there were 13 itunes app that need to be redownloaded from itunes (said that the resources have been modified). Luckily itunes saved my previous purchase though so that I could downloaded it for free.

okay so now everything is okay. ios 4.3.1, i want to jailbreak, im using windows, i read d first page, i go to link given. but i have 1 noob/stupid question.
I dont understand what they saying on this "NOTE: If your iPhone doesn’t rely on a carrier unlock, you can use Redsn0w for both Windows and Mac to easily jailbreak your device on iOS 4.3.1"
and this "Sn0wBreeze is not recommended for those wishing to preserve their unlock. Again, Sn0wBreeze is Windows only."
So, i have Maxis unlocked set,
1.should i be bother by this?
2.what they trying to say..for locked set (for example buy from US and etc) they will have trouble if they want to JB using snowbreeze? or redsnow?
3. so for my situation, maxis 3gs unlocked set, which one do u guys recommend? redsnow? snowbreeze? pwange?
Go ahead. It's open for discussion for iPad subforum as well as in iPod subforum section.
Thank you and Cheers
Btw, 5uperMan got 3 days account suspension for piracy discussion and this is his 2 offense. He will get 30 days off for the next offense. Thank you for reporting and please keep reporting those who post on piracy.
Thanks Gary, I have already open a JB thread in the iPad section with "strictly no pirate discussion" description.
Just quick Q on tethered JB. All the apps on my phone are legit and paid for. Let's say I tether JB. Then going out that time phone hang and needed to restart.
1. will i still be able to use my phone? 2. will i still be able to use all my apps?

Yes you will be able to use it, but Cydia and it's app will not run, eg. winterboard. Now Jb tools is untethered, so reboot or hang or what also no need worry. Also you can run redsn0w over current tethered Jb.

No ur phone won't be able to start and will stuck at the apple logo screen.
U need a Pc and re run the tethered jb again to be able to boot back ur phone
And to spikyz, you don't need to bothered about that since urs is officially unlocled

finally managed to upgrade to 4.3.1 and jb it using redsnow, thanks to sammy, DE.si.mon and others!
btw this is my step by step including some probs i had, hope this can help other ppl.
1. SYNC with itunes, sync everything, pics, music, and apps. 2. Do backup for CONTACTS using microsoft outlook etc. 3. BACKUP by right click on iphone pict at iTunes.
So now with all backup n sync in place. 4. Restore to factory setting. 5. Upgrade to new ios version (i upgraded to 4.3.1) 6. after upgrade, if u stuck or have so problem. just unplug iphone or restart itunes. 7. after upgrade, sync back with itunes to get your data.
Jailbreak part. 8. Have various types, i choose Redsnow becoz its the easiest to understand. haha 9. Download redsnow at d website mention on first page. and follow the instruction. and u shall be fine.
Btw, if during the JB and u stuck at kernel /downloading/processing try the following..
10. Open Redsnow, start TASK MANAGERS, go to process, right click at redsnow and choose set affinity, and uncheck CPU 0 and CPU 1.
before this i stuck several times, using step no. 10 that i found on internet, my JB is finally done. Thanks to Mr. Google
Guys.. I just jailbroke my iPhone 4 and downloaded the glass orb theme and 5 icon dock which is required for this theme. Everything is looking ok except the custom dock for this theme. All icons that are not in the dock are in the "glass orbs" but the ones in the dock still have there square shape.
biteSMS ($8.99 on Cydia store, 14days trial with free of ads, or continue using it but it became ad supported)
It is the single best ever app I ever download, not only the best app I ever download from Cydia, but out of all the app I download from the appstore too.
Apple notification sucks, whenever you are playing a game, browsing at safari, reading RSS at your RSS app, and when a SMS pop up, I will have to close the app in order to reply it. What multitasking is this?
Well, biteSMS is the thing, all because of the Quick Reply.
Gone is the days you need to quit the app you are currently working on just to reply the SMS, and then relaunch the app again. Now this is multitasking!
Besides, not only Quick Reply. With biteSMS you can compose SMS inside any app too without the need to quit the app 1st. Just click the volume up button once, and when the biteSMS icon pop up in the middle, tap it, and you are in the quick compose mode.
You can also have a quick look on your previous messages with that particular person easily too before your quick compose or quick reply.
and finally delivery reports on iPhone!
those that always lend your phone to friends to play some game or browse will love this. Passcode Lock on SMS!
and the good old character counter so that you don't sent 2 SMS just because you typed in 161 character
Besides all the features I mentioned, some others such as signatures, contact picture on SMS, exact message timestamp and many many more.
You can always read more about it on their website HERE
So with all the features, does it worth USD9, which is around RM30? A HUGE YES! DEFINITELY!
It never crash, it makes SMS so easy and exactly how a phone should be. I hope 1 day apple will do this to their native iOS SMS app, but before that, this is the best.
Not Convinced? Try it for free! The app gives a 14 day trial with all the features it has. After 14 days, you can either buy it or the app will become app suported. If you are those who always travel, you can also try their SMS credit for cheaper international SMS. I never try it before though
What cons of biteSMS you might ask? Well, absolutely nothing. And if I am to be picky, I will say that the icon look FUGLY in pink. Luckily there's a way to get rid of it (again the awesomeness of JB), which I will post up when I am free
Value of Money: 100/10 (no, not a typo ) Features: 10/10
PS: I never use iRealSMS before, but biteSMS do it greatly for me

Great review samlee! I didn't know you can lock the SMS by using a code ... I'm using Locktopus to lock all my apps (Mail especially) but since biteSMS has it's own lock key, this is great.
IMO this is something which is supposed to be on every smartphone.
Yes, you did noticed that our lockscreen is like a waste of space right? Just a plain wallpaper and the 'slide to unlock'
Do you want to have a quick glance on weather, email, miss call, SMS, or even twitter and other updates?
Then LockInfo is for you.
Not only now you can always see your missed calls list, SMS list or voicemail list at your lockscreen instead of the standard pop up window style notification, you can also see all your emails, upcoming events of your calender, even Twitter and RSS, or other Push notification that you set.
Unlike the messy and useless iPhone native notification that you either close it or it won't go away, all of these now will block your screen no more.
Besides, you can also set your favourite call list to show up at the lockscreen, so that you can make the call faster than ever.
However, 1 of the cons of LockInfo (also it's pros) is that I can read my emails direct on my lock screen without the need to unlock it. So anyone can just take up my phone and read my emails.

the difference between redsn0w & PwnageTool is the platform it can be run on. (redsn0w = Windows, PwnageTool = Mac). plus, PwnageTool additional feature of being able to create custom firmwares (ie. new firmware with old baseband).
the question of local/foreign iPhones does not matter. and unlock relies on ultrasn0w, which is an unlock, not a jailbreaking tool.
kudos to b00n for allowing JB discussions to be back. miss the old days on discussion of unlocks & Wintherboard themes.
Its nice to see that jailbreak topics are allowed to discuss again! So is there anyone willing to open a thread about compatible/incompatible cydia apps for jailbroken 4.3.1?

i think it's better to just have 1 thread of JB for now. This will at least ease up the mod here in controlling those who discuss about piracy.
if just 1 thread, easier for us to report those offenders, also easier for mod to clean up the mess
to be honest, I just knew it LOL when i re-read their features list again ROFL

Currently on 4.3.1....so i used Redsn0w for Windows (Vista).
Kinda nail biting...but ahh...the Redsn0w got error halfway after DFU and had to close it...the iphone screen hang at "downloading JB data" for quite a long time before rebooting back to the original...fhew..lucky...tried again...same error..
Well, not my luck..maybe need to wait for another JB software....wonder when is greenpois0n coming out with a 4.3.1 JB.
Not sure but my lappy is currently is login as 'Guest'...but with administrative mode....kinda stupidly deleted my only administrator user name...and seems like I can't add more users as my lappy is 'locked' by my previous company server. But so far all softwares got no probs to install. not sure why Redsn0w got error and had to close.

Only thing I know is the redsn0w software crashed after I did a DFU...and the iphone screen just hang with the "Downloading jailbreak data" (HDD picture). Lucky the iphone reboot back to the original
I'm running Vista....yes, I did that...click properties and run this mode in compatibility mode for Windows XP (service pack 2)....also same thing....got error halfway..
Gonna try sn0wbreeze later tonite

Just got my iphone 4 with ios 4.3.1 jailbroken. The status seems very convincing.
Yet there r some of the themes that need to be modified to suit the new ios 4.3.1. Meaning if u r kind of creative type of person and u love to have ur iphone seems different from others, u may have some issues with the themes setup. There r some issues with some of the apps offered by Cydia too and I believe the developer r trying their level best to get them upgraded to suit the new ios.
Other than the mentioned above, ios 4.3.1 jailbroken can be considered stable.

I think something is wrong with my lappy

if too much hassle, you can download the ready JB'ed firmware from spiritjb.org never tried it though.

OK...I think I've JB my IP4 ...yippy..
Here are my steps:
1. Off / ON the computer... 2. Exit the AV virus 3. Make sure your computer has Control Panel -> Adminstative tool->servies->Windows update must be in manual and also started (not sure if this had any effect...but you can try it) 4. Click on the redsn0w.exe properties->Run this program in compatibility mode Xp service pack 2...make sure you are have admin rights for the current user 5. Just try and do an installation again....hope it works for you
Seriously...snowbreeze can't even launch...finally redsn0w worked for me...after 3 tries..just follow my steps bro..that got it working..
I forgot to add...try off/ on the modem also when you restart your computer

So how to do this?
chokia...I got my ipsw from the itune upgrade..
If you upgrade your iphone using itune, try to a search for .ipsw %Userprofile%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

Dude... Do not unzipped that file... Change your iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.zip to iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw

Recommended Method - RedSn0w 0.9.6rc9 untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 (Windows and Mac)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPod touch, and original iPad is now available for both Windows and Mac. RedSn0w will works for iPhone 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, and the second generation of Apple TV. iPad 2 is currently not supported yet.
Unlike PwnageTool, RedSn0w updates your baseband, hence if you RELY AN UNLOCKED for your iPhone, THIS WILL NOT SUITS YOU.
What you need:
- iTunes 10.2.1 or higher - redsn0w for Windows or Mac - iOS 4.3.1 IPSW fileiOS 4.3.1 IPSW file (firmware) for your specific device
Step 1 : Make sure your iPhone is on firmware 4.3.1.
Step 2 : Download RedSn0w 0.9.6rc9 and the iOS 4.3.1 firmware from the link above, and save it at your desktop, and you are ready to rock!
Step 3 :
After you launch RedSn0w, you will need to browse and choose the custom firmware you downloaded at step 2.
Step 4 :
When it successfully identified the firmware, click next.
Step 5 :
Just checked the "Install Cydia" box, and click next. You can also install custom boot logos for example, but this is just optional. Click Next to continue.
Redsn0w will then walk you through how to place your device in DFU mode. Make sure your device is OFF and plugged in to your computer.
Step 6 : If you successfully enter DFU mode, RedSn0w will now jailbreak your iPhone. You should see a bunch of funny code displaying on your iPhone, then you should see a pwnapple. It’s all good, relax and let the magic happen
Step 7 : Once done, your iPhone will reboot by itself. You should now have a jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed. If you ever failed to enter DFU mode however, just repeat it from step 3.
mind adding 1-2 steps into it, to avoid the ramdisk uploading issue
But so far all softwares got no probs to install. not sure why Redsn0w got error and had to close.
brader, b4 u run the redsnow, u need to rightclick on the icon and run compatibility mode thingy...it works!
i also like u...try the method i suggested, should be fine
Now my phone stuck at waiting to reboot like forever. (whole nite) This morning i Unplugged it then the phone cannot be ON. Panic!
"OFFICIALLY BRICKED"
Update : I pressed+Hold for few seconds the Power and Home buttons and Lucky the apple logo appearred.
The phone booted fine what a relief! When i checked there is no cydia inside so i guessed the phone was not being JB'ed, i need to go to work and use the phone today. Will try again tonite.
Anyone knows whats going on? W764bit? or Maxis iV1 (does this mean my phone is locked to maxis and i cant use redsnow?)

Recommended if you want to preserve your baseband: PwnageTool untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4.3.1 (Mac only)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
PwnageTool will work with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 1, and Apple TV 2nd generation. It still does not work on iPad2.
PwnageTool is a Mac only tool and is the only way to preserve your baseband to make sure you can unlock later on.
Before you start, please make sure you go over HERE and read properly.
Step 1 : Download PwnageTool HERE or HERE. Also download the 4.3.1 IPSW HERE
When downloading the IPSW file, it is best to download it with Firefox since Safari often auto extracts it!
Step 2 : Launch PwnageTool and agree to the warning by clicking OK.
Step 3 : Click to select Expert Mode from the top menu bar
Step 4 :
Click to select your device. A check-mark will appear over the image of the device. Click the blue arrow button to continue.
Step 5 :
PwnageTool should offer you the option to use the firmware you downloaded in step 1, or to browse for a firmware on your computer. If you downloaded it to your desktop, PwnageTool should find it for you automatically. Select the firmware and click the blue arrow to continue.
Step 6 :
Select “General” and click the blue arrow to continue.
Step 7 :
The General settings allows you to decide the partition size, move the root partition to somewhere around 1,000 MB.
Check Activate the phone if you are not with an official carrier then click the blue arrow button. Deselect Activate if you have an iPhone legitimately activated on an official carrier.
Step 8 :
You will now be taken to the Cydia settings. From here, you can select packages to have pre-installed on your jailbroken iPhone. This is a great way to install jailbreak apps directly, which will save you time later on. For this tutorial, we will not install any package. Click the blue arrow to continue.
Step 9 :
You will now be taken to the “Custom Packages Settings”. Make sure “Cydia Installer” in selected. Click the blue arrow to continue.
Step 10 :
You are now ready to begin the pwnage process! Click the Build button to select it then click the Blue arrow button to begin.
Step 11 :
Select a location to save your custom iPSW. I suggest saving to the dektop. PwnageTool will now build your custom firmware, which might take a few minutes.
Step 12 :
Your IPSW is now being built. It will take some time.
Step 13 :
Once done, PwnageTool will ask you to conenct your iPhone to your computer in order to enter DFU mode. Just plug your iPhone in and follow the steps.
Once your iPhone is successfully in DFU mode, PwnageTool will prompt you to launch iTunes. It should tell you it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.Click OK to confirm.
Step 14 : Still in iTunes, hold the Option/Alt key on your Mac while clicking on Restore. Make sure you are holding the Option key. iTunes will give you the option to select a firmware to restore to. Select the custom ISPW firmware you created and saved in step 10.
Step 15 : iTunes will now restore your iPhone using the custom IPSW. It’s probably going to take a few minutes. When it’s done, your iPhone will be jailbroken and running iOS 4.3.1. You should now have Cydia on your iPhone springboard. Congrats, you just jailbroke your iPhone.

I just jailbreak 4.3.1 last night..n i experienced the problem like yours too..let me guess..halfway through jb,after u've done the press power, hold power + home, release power n hold home, windows pops up "redsn0w has stopped working"/or something like that, right??n mine also stuck at downloading jailbreaking data.
Actually it's because of the windows itself that has error(which i will format my lappy later)..what i did was,i jb using other lappy that doesn't have error..fyi,both my lappy n the other lappy use Windows 7..so,what u should do is:
1) copy jb data n transfer to other lappy/PC (redsn0w,4.3.1 ipsw) 2) run it again n Walaa
p.s hahah,i didn't read the entire thread,seems your problems are solved..anyways,thats what i did

better get those old CPU with single core.
unless you know the way done by spikyz

Anyone knows whats going on? W764bit? or Maxis iV1 (does this mean my phone is locked to maxis and i cant use redsnow?)
no such thing as phone locked to maxis.
anyway i jb'ed my 4.3.1 last night, win7 64 bit, had a few problems. finally fixed it by doing this:
1. set redsn0w to run compatibility mode win xp sp 3 2. run redsn0w as administrator 3. set redsn0w affinity (ctrl alt del --> right click redsn0w --> set affinity --> click core 1 only)
If you're turning on OpenSSH, remember to change your mobile and root default passwords away from 'alpine'. the mobileterminal that comes in the default sources wouldn't run, so i installed the ijailbreak one: http://www.ijailbreak.com/cydia/learn-how-...terminal-520-1/

its doesnt mean like that. there instruction menu on redsnow on how to turn your phone to DFU mode. And you only can do it after the phone enters DFU mode.

I think yours is unlock set. As u have 05.16.x baseband and its not locked, so its should be the unlock set. Bcoz, for now Ultrasn0w only supported 01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00. Unless the phone was unlock by gevey sim (not sure).

I can't confirm about this..but based on what i read in JBreaking websites, they can only confirm that it works on iphone 4..maybe some forumers here at LYN have experimented it..anybody??
@DE.si.MON when u backup from itunes on ios4.3.1.. there is any problem with the games data?
let say my game angry bird at lvl5, then i backup on ios4.1 then i update to ios.4.3.1 and restore and JB.. izit i will get angry bird on lvl5 again after that?
my battery drain faster than usual, disabled PING and reset network but still the problem is there. JB with redsn0w + factory unlock + set up as NEW.
also notice the RAM in sbsettings shows much lesser than 4.2.1 where i usually get 340-360. now i only have 300-320
anyone had the same prob?
my battery also become sucker ever since i jailbreak on 4.2.1
it sucks even more if i got SBSettings instsalled.
hence i deleted it, it become better. BTW, when Cydia is running in background, my battery drain very fast, hence i need to shut it down everytime i on it.

anyway try using [remove background] from cydia ... nice little app to clear all background processes

Do we need to install 3rd party app to get the wifi personal hotspot working? I've upgraded mine to 4.3.1 mainly because of the battery problem.. but yet to JB. I've had problems with JBing my 3GS before and thinking of not going that route .. but if I can make the wifi part of personal hotspot working w/o 3rd party app, I'll not hesitate to do the JB again.
Edit: Woppssy.. I thought it was for 3GS .. I read it wrongly .. the personal hotspot doesn't need JB anyway to get the wifi working on iphone 4.

its been 5hrs now, since my last full charge ... @ 81% now after some whatsapp-ing, poker, texting and cydia use.... used to get 90% battery on 4.2.1 and the FREE MEMORY is quite low standing at 300-320 now...
Hmm I noticed the RAM reduction as well but I don't think it's because of the JB. I think it's all the new features that 4.3.1 has so even if you don't JB, I still think that the RAM would have decreased.

I do agree on that. Moreover, with all cydia app that has been installed i.e.SBSetting, Winterboard etc. It will eventually eat your RAM sooner or later.

Would appreciate it if anyone who has a custom FW for 3GS FW 4.3.1 BB 06.15.00 to share it with me.. or any links where i can DL it from. PM would be nice. I already have the custom FW to restore 4.2.1 BB 06.15.00 .. just in case anything happens.

maybe you can try sn0wbreeze to custom cook ur ipsw and preserve old baseband
Ok I realized that after redsn0w jailbreak it used more ram than before, during my tethered period using pwnage tools my free ram has been 340-350 as compared to now 280-310.
Seems like the newer OS will be quite a stuggle for 3GS with 256mb ram. I was about to do the upgrade but reading the battery consumption issue makes me think twice. Hmmm
i thought the iOS 4.3.1 has fix d battery issue on iOS 4.3 mayb JB eat up more ram as had installed more cydia apps? such as winterboard, SBS settings, vWallpaper n etc which runs as part of d iOS
But Mods, we are prolly gonna need a saperate thread on themes and themeing, just to keep our sanity. Can?
As for JB eating up RAM, it's mostly how much MobileSubstrate add ons you are running. I keep a close watch on MS through SBSettings, and if there's ONE app that does the job of many (CleanStatus vs everything else to clear your status bar or Springtomize vs a whole lot of other apps), it's generally better for your RAM.
I'm running 340MB+ after a clean reboot (NOT respring), not many RAM problems unless I run too many "Backgrounded" apps at once - the native BG system is much more RAM friendly but is a heck of a lot more restrictive.
And for me SBS runs fine, maybe it's a problem with one of the toggles? No battery sucking issue here (my HapticPro sucks more battery).
On a side note, anybody else having Crash to Desktop problems with Tactical Soldier (the game) on an Jailbroken 4.2.1 iDevice? It's driving me crazy as it's the ONLY game giving me problems post JB (not to mention I've been waiting for a game like that on iOS for the LONGEST TIME). Some tweak is interfering with the game, for sure, I just don't know which one. The Devs seem JB unsavvy, so they don't know either.

And yes, if you're wondering, I BUY each and every one of my apps, may they be from Cydia or the AppStore. I've had enough Jack Sparrow sins accumulated already from my Symbian days.
So viva la clean Jailbreaking talk!
As for answers to potential questions:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
1) iRealsms vs BiteSMS: Bite, by a huge margin. iReal is simply not polished enough in comparison, unless you NEED the traditional, Symbian like SMS view that only iReal provides (I've been a convert to the conversation view ever since my N900).
2) Mywi vs PDANet vs TetherMe - MyWi for pre 4.3, Tetherme for post 4.3. Why? Tetherme is cheaper. Heck, why do you need any at all on 4.3 when it's built in?
3) Should I upgrade to 4.3.1? - Your call, I'm still waiting for ALL of my tweaks to be updated to. 4.3.x, and I run a mountain of tweaks.
4) Where can I get xxxx app for free: *Eiraku presses the report button on your ass*
Reccomended Tweaks and Apps (for newcomers):
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
That's all for now, there's some more later, if I rajin to type here.
I have a question of my own though, anybody know how to configure Pkgbackup/AptBackup/AppBackup for use before upgrading FW + Rejailbreak? I've been running sans iTunes since March.
And is ShowCase still laggy when activating Spotlight/changing case? That'a the main reason I ditched it
Lastly, again Mods, we need a separate thread on Themeing/Winterboard/Themes. Really.

Guys.. I just jailbroke my iPhone 4 and downloaded the glass orb theme and 5 icon dock which is required for this theme. Everything is looking ok except the custom dock for this theme. All icons that are not in the dock are in the "glass orbs" but the ones in the dock still have there square shape.
@Ice BabY: Which iPhone and what iOS version is it running?
You need to either -
a) Download the dock for it.
b) iFile into the theme directory, and add ~iphone to the end of each dock image file (if you're running 4.2.x)
4.2.1 broke theme compatibility for a lot of themes.
I'm using iphone 4 ios 4.3.1.. and every of my theme dock doesn't fix.. can you help me? how to add ~iphone? For example my iphone theme folder inside have icons, bundles, Background.png and a Dock.png.. how?
Removing the Application from the Recents List There's actually a much simpler approach for quitting apps, and that's to use your recent app list. Double-click the home button to display the recently accessed applications. Press and hold any of the icons shown, then navigate to the application you want to quit and tap the red circled minus button. This sends a signal to the application in question that allows it to quit. The application will be re-added to the recents list the next time you launch it.
I wan to know whether i can configure the "Activator" to let me use other ways to bring this up instead of Double click home button everytime? coz i juz cant find what this calls in the Activator. thxs
NVM. found it, its "Activator Switcher"

Roger on the reviews, the recommendations are more of quick list of nice JB stuff. Will do reviews on some of the better paid apps on Cydia soon.
Ringer sbsettings dont work for ios4.3.1, cant mute/unmute your ringer.
Lucky the kill background sbsettings work. Most important to kill apps, free up memory, save battery, save home button usage.
Why? The button will eventually spoilt if frequently use. Saw alot people complain stuck button.

I am not sure is this question is allowed to be asked. I have a 3gs thats need unlock. current baseband is 5.12 Anybody here jailbreak ios 4.3.1 using snowbreeze and preserving the baseband at the same time? Is there any difference if I jailbreak with redsnow or snowbreeze? Advise any sifus?
any successful case here. I am afraid because I got caught once when I update to ios 4.1 from ios 4.0
opps, i forgot ultrasnow does not work with ios 4.3.1 yet. Luckily i did not update. One more thing, what is the diff between redsnow and snowbreeze? Same? is just that snowbreeze preserve baseband?

snowbreeze is for create custom firmware to prevent ur baseband upgrade lo.. redsnow is more on jailbreak purpose
Odd.. I just pecah penjara my friend's iPhone 4. And found out he does not have personal hotspot.
did pecah penjara under window7 64bits and snowbreeze. :S
that's weird, because personal hotspot is basic functionality. my iP4 (on maxis) 4.3.1 JB using redsn0w no probs with personal hotspot - also using win7 64
Oh and ManualCorrect Pro is out on Cydia. You can setup your own correction rules (LYN -> Lowyat.Net) and hence set up your own set of text macros. Very, very nice.

Well it's hard to say. What HAVE you installed?
JB iPhones have mobilesubstrate and it's addons running all the time as well you know, besides just normal processes. And IMHO this is the main reason for poor-er battery life on JB iPhones, especially heavily tweaked ones.
I tried to jailbreak my phone just now to 4.3.1 & i succesfully did so. But it was restored to factory settings, therefore all my SMS, contacts, photos, settings all gone! I tried to restore from backup but to no avail! Help!! All i want is my contacts, text messages & photos!

Battery life decrease after JB at 4.2.1 is a known issue. It does not affect everyone but it do affect me
I notice that if cydia is running background, my battery dry up even faster. If I close it then it will be better abit. The same goes to sbsettings which drain my battery life even more

jb won't restore your phone. was it back to factory after u update 4.3.1 ? previously you were on which ios? is there a backup in yr itunes u can use ? if the backup is corrupt or can't be restored, important stuff like contacts , sms & notes can still be retrieved ..

Was from ios 4.3 then use snowbreeze 2.5 to cook ipsw then in dfu mode i restore to the jailbroken ios 4.3.1. Mind telling me how can i retrieve all my contacts, sms, photos if all my backup are corrupted?

Eh, JB'ing shouldn't cause factory settings. Erm, I guess what you can do is a total restore from itunes. shift click restore, browse to the firmware, then once itunes has restored the phone then you choose to restore from backup.

Agree with ken, try a different computer. I've experienced before in the past where my desktop couldn't successfully JB whereas my laptop can.

well, one of the best ways to backup your contact is to sync with Windows Contact/Address Book. there's an option in iTunes.
apart from that, before any update of firmware, you can opt for the SSH method of accessing SMS, Contacts in your iOS file system and copy them out (backup) and place them back once update if complete.

I always make a backup by copy the latest sycn backup restore file from itunes directory so that still can restore back in case the default one corrupted, i think this is faster than using SSH method to retrieve them

@ysc, try to update all packages in cydia? Can't help you since i am still in 4.2.1
SnapTap ($0.99 at Cydia Store)
Again, just a small tweak which let you take picture using the volume button instead of the stupid camera button at the screen.
Helpful? certainly yes.
However, it only works with the original camera app for me (at least I haven't found an app that can use it yet). It doesn't works with camera+ or instagram. Too bad
PS: nope, no conflict with biteSMS
Value of Money: 6/10 (initially I gave it 9/10 but ever since I use instagram, it become pretty useless for me as I am using the original camera app lesser) Features: 5/10

well, like what i have stated in my previous post, if you're on a jailbroken phone, restoring from previous backup do mess up with your phone in some ways eg. battery drain & ocassional hang issues. hence, only manual backup would b able to avoid these.

herm.. i m on a jailbroken phone, using the method i mentioned, so far do not face any problem, using this method since 2008 until now
Look at the clock app, and look at the time show up there.
Yes, the clock app is pointing to the exact time now.
If you are bored that your clock app always showed at 10:15, then this small tweak is for you.
Value of Time used to download it since it's free: 6/10 (need to add repo lagi, plus I never see the clock app for the time, hence it's actually a waste of time for me to do download this tweak lol, but still good to have it ) Features: 8/10 (do what it supposed to)

im using 4.3.1 ..right now i want to jailbreak,,which one u all prefer,,,using redsnow or snowbreeze,,im new with the iphone
they're the same, just that one preserves baseband if you bought your iphone from a malaysia telco, either is ok
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
snowbreeze is for windows users. It allows users to create a pre-jailbreak, custom firmware that they can use to restore from. After this restore, users can jailbreak, thus allowing them to keep their older basebands, and thus, unlocking ability.
Redsnow allows for Jailbreaking as well, however, your device must be upgraded to the latest firmware for this to work. By upgrading to the latest firmware, say - for example - via iTunes, you run the risk of upgrading your baseband and thus losing unlocking ability (for the time being).
Redsn0w jb for 4.3.1 ruined my 3GS (Maxis), via Win XP x86, managed to jailbreak but can't detect telco or no signal just like an iPod Touch, after full restore even worst, can't unlock with my SIM pin code, can someone enlighten me how? Thanks
which one easier...i already watch tutorial redsnow and snowbreeze,,look like redsnow more easy,,,i cant stand playing iphone without apps..huhu
once we upgrade our iphone firmware to a new version, a new baseband will be applied into our phone. so, showbreeze are used to cook a new custom firmware and also TO PRESERVE your iPhone baseband. if ur phone is an unlock set, just use redsn0w.both sn0wbreeze and redsn0w are easy.
Guys.. I just jailbroke my iPhone 4 and downloaded the glass orb theme and 5 icon dock which is required for this theme. Everything is looking ok except the custom dock for this theme. All icons that are not in the dock are in the "glass orbs" but the ones in the dock still have there square shape.

Those running redsn0w may have noticed we enabled too many Settings options in some versions of the jailbreak (for instance, what you want your side switch to do, even if you have no side switch because you’re not using an iPad). Release rc10 of redsn0w corrects that (you can just run it over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).
Along the way, we’ve also added the option to enable boot animations…these animations can be installed via Cydia, but be sure to select which animation to use via the Settings->Bootlogo setting after you’ve downloaded an animation (and again, you can just run rc10 over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).
(The boot animation we tested against was “Android Boot Logo”. It correctly installs all the dependencies needed to run the animation at each boot).

redsn0w works well on 3GS 4.3.1 .. no issue .. give it another try.. follow the steps on page#1 .. since yours is maxis set, even easier cos no lock .. dun give up..
kk, thanks, i do appreciate for your assistance. because when i brought to maxis centre few days back, they somehow refuse to help and stated that my warranty is over. but luckily they managed to unlock it again, the office told me that my 3GS hanged, would it be possible from a failure jailbreak or recovery? the most curious part is they managed to make it unlock within few minutes? i was wondering what have they done? is hard reset? just in case if i screwed up the process, i can solve by myself rather than panicking. i shall give it another try later on. thanks again.

Anyone have any success in getting custom boot logo using redsn0w_0.9.6rc11 jailbreak?
The custom boot logo does not work for my IPhone 4 eventhough I've followed all the procedures..I've enable it in my BootLogo settings tho..
I already tried on my iphone 4 on 4.3.1 n it works..since u already have the Bootlogo settings, try selecting the built in theme 'Chronic Dev''..or otherwise just install simple boot logo in cydia using searchword "bootlogo"..i've installed the 'iphone4' bootlogo n it works..just in case u dont know, boot logo only appears everytime u reboot your iphone..good luck

Ideliveryreport same with iPhonedelivery right ? If so then yes it works on 4.2.1 and our telco always have it eh since even normal hp got this function

No, nothing will be erased if you restore from backup.
If you'd like to manually back up your contacts, SMS etc., you can check out the post in the spoiler below. You can also sync your contacts with Outlook.

Both of you are noted/tagged and reported for piracy discussion and again, the rules are stated CLEARLY on the first post and pinned thread.
Failing to read the rules, LYN Staff will be issuing account suspension as said on the pinned thread.
Thank you

This is why we disallow JB discussion back then. Piracy will never end and forumers will continue to disobey the rules as we have seen and btw, there's another thread on piracy as well which the thread started will be given the same equal suspension as the rest.
If this goes on again and again, i will take down all JB discussion like before. Don't blame me for doing so, blame these users for not obeying the RULES.

Even if no jb discussion, newbie (buta-buta) will come post piracy. u cant blame on the thread. Is ur job to stop piracy, not disallow discussion.
@DE.si.MON U also can't blame davidgary la ... he's not here 24/7. You report and he moderate. It's not his job to stop piracy but it's up to us to help davidgary. From what I can see, those people that talks piracy are not new. This people also hide behind the "Noobie" title as a reason "Oh ... I don't know ... sorry". Come on la ... this is not a warez forum. Clearly the "No piracy" policy applies to all. Heck it's even the government law not to advocate with piracy.
Look at those 2 that davidgary just gave warning (Duckyy & ssilverr82), they're a member since 2009. Thats now new. It's just our mentality ... the "tak apa" attitude.

Agreed with frozzbyte, Davidgary has done his responsibility to keep this forum clean from piracy talk. its the LYN rules that prohibited any piracy talk in any sub topic of discussion. Old and new members should be aware of this.
We cant blame him, because the only way to make iPhone sub topic clear from piracy discussion is to disable all Jailbreak related topics.. If we still want this topic to be here please take notes on what u have posted.

yes, hence i will always report when I saw anyone post about piracy.
but, what's the use if they don't bother to read or whatsoever? they will still come and post about piracy no matter what we say it, and even if no JB talk, some will still post it like what DE.si.MON said
i can only wish the gold and red tag can give those piracy cheap people a good time in private island as the mod can't do anything to it besides just delete the post

How to set as new phone as mentioned in the guideline above? meaning doing hard reset? I have read quite a few jailbreak tutorial, and they did mention about backing up data before upgrading to other jailbreak firmware.... why they said so if nothing will be lost after jailbreak???? We really dont need to backup even sound files and photos in the phone?
Wow, just saw this thread today LOL I don't reside in iPhone general forum much, only specific in Games section
BTW,
I'm running 4.3.1, some SBSettings toggle not working like Location toggle and 'SBSettings - Power - Lock'
Celeste also not working in 4.3.1, since ActionMenu is not compatible with the iOS version. 20/60 Second Lockscreen also not working in 4.3.1.
Tweaks that really worth it for me,
- QuickDo $7.99 - yup, definitely must have for me http://www.clezz.com/quickdo/ - PKGBackup $7.99 - another definitely must have app. Highly recommended http://www.pragmatixconsulting.com/iphoneA...User_Guide.html - You backup everything to local or Dropbox (Cydia sources info, settings for each app, packages info, calendar, contacts, SMS - everything) - LockInfo $8.24* (*incl. % price) - If you love/want all info in your iPhone lockscreen http://lockinfo.ashman.com/ - You will get Popup Blocker $.99 FOC with the purchased of LockInfo. - iFile $4.00 - file manager for your iPhone, total control files inside your iPhone http://cydia.saurik.com/package/eu.heinelt.ifile - MultiCleaner $.99 - Clean multitask items using one touch toggle http://modmyi.com/cydia/com.dapetcu21.multicleaner - FreeSync $1 - its cheaper than Synchronicity $2. Use your iPhone while syncing with iTunes, you can do almost everything - calling, sms, appstore, +more - qTweeter $3.99 - for Twitter addict only. Super fast tweet, can attached photos easily. LockInfo have twitter plugin but it can't attach photo
Thinking to buy, but not really will use it, - iBlacklist $12 - Call, SMS and Factime blocker http://iblacklist.com.br/
This is my current lockscreen - LockInfo & QuickDo combo.

Hi guys, I am trying to play around my old iphone 2g. Has successfully installed reds0now 0.94. Cydia runs very slow. anyway to make it load faster? Also, whenever I use the search function and type...cydia will be closed straightaway after I typed a character....please help?
IOS 4.3 and 4.3.1 r the same? mine is maxis set and get it on thursday plan to jailbreak it later.
Update to 4.3.1 then run jailbreak. remember to click "make my life easier" button in cydia to enable you to restore to earlier firmware in the future.
Hey guys, my 3gs currently at 4.2 jailbroke by greenp0ison. for now can i use redsn0w or pwnage tool to jailbreak 4.3 ? just afraid clash system.
Can you explain more on the word "clash system" ? 4.2 , 4.3 and 4.3.1 are a different version of iOS.If you updated to 4.3, then there will be no more 4.2 in ur phone(unless you choose to downgrade later). So how come will the system clash ?
By the way, your'e updating to 4.3 or 4.3.1 ?

An SHSH Blob is basically what Apple uses to verify the version of iOS you are running. That’s why we tell you to save your SHSH Blobs before upgrading your firmware on your iDevice. Otherwise you might not be able to downgrade to a previous version in the event you needed to.
That is unless you managed to save your SHSH Blobs with a program like TinyUmbrella. Doing so will allow you to trick iTunes, into thinking you are running an older version.

To tell you the truth, we might again reimpose no jailbreak discussion if it goes out of hand again once more.
Hmmm I think I am noticing that the 4.3.1 eats more battery than 4.2.1. I usually leave my iPhone connected to the wifi the whole night (sleeps by reading the news and wakes up and checking my share prices lorr) and it usually eats up 1-2% of battery life for the whole 7 hour duration but since I upgraded to 4.3.1, looks like it's wayyyy faster drain ... almost 2% an hour.
Wonder what's up with that. Dunno if I want to test going on stock firmware and checking the battery drain so that I can discount the jailbreak as the reason .... going without jailbreak is like having sex with condoms ..... takde feeeeeelllllll

3gs user here , jz jb'ed my iphone not long ago, i found that my screen sensitivity is abit too much d(too bouncy). is anyone encountered this prob as well? thanks.
are there anymore good free tweaks in cydia anymore ? i see all the useful & good ones also need to pay ..
Cydia is an alternative to AppStore, many apps that didn't pass the Apple requirements will probably ended up in Cydia and surely, not many of them want to give their apps for free. There are quite a number of interesting apps for example the BiteSMS comes with advert, but they're still free. Some other might have the lite version just like what they've done in AppStore.

app supported biteSMS is a great one if you haven't download it yet
anyway,
Anyone want to write a nicely done step by step guide (with pictures) on how to upgrade your iOS from your jailbroken device (for example upgrade to iOS 4.3.1 from a jailbroken 4.2.1 iOS, and then jailbreak the iOS4.3.1), without losing any of your data (include SMS, contacts, music, purchased app from app store, purchased app from cydia, tweaks and repo from cydia, games save file)?
I personally think that many will want to know this and whenever got someone ask it again, we can always ask them refer to 1st page.

iPhones on 4.2.1 i think got 3 types - - 4.2.1 official factory unlock. therefore no need care about baseband. - 4.2.1 carrier locked but baseband remain when upgrade from 4.1 or earlier ver. - 4.2.1 carrier locked & update to iPad baseband 06.15.00 to unlock
step by step guide will have to be very precise .. otherwise 2nd & 3rd type of iPhones will have prob ..
last week, i update a 3GS for a friend of mine. cos he screwed up cydia when it was updated to a newer ver. cydia icon missing. he told me it's factory unlocked. so i didn't bother to check. after update from 4.1 to 4.3.1, only know it's a carrier locked set. lucky SHSH was saved in cydia. downgrade back to 4.2.1. then only can unlock & use. if SHSH not saved, i think that he walloped me already.. lesson i learnt, no matter how fren, don't do for free anymore.. & better to check the model..

As House likes to say " Everybody Lies" ....
As for step by step guide,
Go to iClarified.com and you get all sorts of tutorial. Very precise, very detailed.
As for restoring all you data. Just make sure you backup everything to iTunes before you do the jailbreak. Once the jailbreak is done, just restore the backup and sync all your apps again and all your contacts, saved data will be there.
I used PwnageTool for my 4.3.1 upgrade from a GreenPoison Jailbreak for my 4.2.1, no issue whatsoever ... I know that if you are using RedSn0w, then you will need a fresh stock upgrade to 4.3.1 and then Redsn0w will do the exploit injection to jailbreak. So two types of method and both are okay. Just depends on your preference.

not what you mentioned since those i already put at 1st page (like use redsnow when don't care about unlocked and such)

Version 4.3.0: -Bug fix: Cydia app settings backup/restore & user sources management: Cydia settings is now systematically restored & backup. - Bug fix: Settings the rights permissions for preferences & springboard files -Bug fix: Fix missing packages that were due to the circular dependencies -Added: ability to view dependencies for a package -Added: Accessibility feature -Added: Support for libactivator, winterboard library -Added: Ability to remove PKGBackup™ addressbook entries
yea, i saw the lifehacker post about PKGbackup, but i find that it still lacking a bit like what to do 1st (such as restore from new phone and not restore from backup) and such
so i am seeking help here see who is kind enough to create a nice guide
oh, and if you are using QuickDo, mind to give some quick review on it? hehe
multigestures or activator better for replacement home button ?
For me, activator is better. Multigesture need 4 finger. U need to use both hand to do it. Btw, i use both actvtr n mltgesture. Multigesture just for fun

Battery consumption is affected by a lot of variables. But for me I don't see the difference also unless you have tons of tweaks and such then battery consumption should be more
yeap. I jb-ed my 3gs by snowbreeze then redsnow. If you are not relying in unlock. jst go for redsnow. but somehow I read it somewhere. snowbreeze is not that good because its not from dev team. Advice is go for redsnow or pwnagetool.
noob here. how to use activator for replacement home button?
I'm sure most of the people here are know how to use the Activator but I guess busy doing their own thing. Anyway, to use it, just go to Settings > Activator > Anywhere and pick either one that you like. I personally like the Status Bar > Swipe Down and assigned the Activate Switcher to it. Once done, just swipe down from the status bar and it will react exactly like when you double click your Home Button aka multitask

cant say snowbreeze is not that good la.. its very important to cook up custom firmware to retain baseband and other stuffs.. redsnow is just a simple jb tool .. even for beginners.. for factory unlocked sets.. b4 you use redsnow, better to read dev team's blog first & understand what you are doing ..
Hi guys, is there any way to use own background for themes? I tried looking around but still not able to do it. Any themes that can use our own background? I am using 4.2.1 btw.
Now I've finally collected enough of my wits to start playing around with deleting LaunchDeamons to make my iOS snappier and free RAM. Working fine so far and I think I freed 8-10MBs just by killing the crash report deamons. Plus the phone is slowing down a lot less when left running for a long time.
Nice. Next, more tweaking + deleting unused lang packs.
It might potentially brick your iPhone though, so caveat emptor if you wanna try.

There is no such thing as jailbreak by Cydia. Jailbreak tool only have Redsnow right now (correct me if i am wrong).
The only more procedure is you need to get the ipsw for iOS4.3.1 that's all... Does that considered hard? The main thing in jailbreak is just to learn how to get into DFU mode and there you know how to jailbreak. Pro-Jailbreakers correct me if i am wrong.

If he is comparing userland jailbreak with current jailbreak sure more procedure lar and also for those keeping old baseband sure more procedure.
There is no such things as jailbreak by cydia. All jailbreak come with cydia. Either you jailbreak with Jailbreakme, Spirit, redsnow, snowbreeze, greenpoison or some other else old tools.

Your forgot Pwnage tool. My favorite JB tool. Well, I would say its depends; not everytime DFU. For instance, once you JBroken using custom IPSW in the past; recovery mode will do to penetrate new custom firmware Its not needed for DFU.

To make it Clear Pwnage Tool & snowbreeze is a tool to make custom firmware. Even you ask the maker of pwnage tool or snowbreeze they will tell you the same thing. Is not a Jailbreak Tool.

For me definitely a JB tool, without pwnage tool; how you gona create custom IPSW? Without custom ipsw, from where you lay Cydia? Well understood your point, try put it in a different POV. Rub off redsn0w (JB tool) from this; teach me how to JB iDevice then
Either way the sun comes up tomorrow on a new day. Both are JB tool for me
I guess we shouldn't really argue what is actually the tool to jailbreak your iOS devices.. anything that is needed to do the JB is considered as one of the tool. Entering DFU mode is actually a process instead of a tool.

Ya of cos you can always call it a jailbreak tool. I am just saying that ih8snow said is a tool to create custom firmware. And i didnt said that custom firmware don't jailbreak. So if there is no redsnow of cos you use a tool to make custom firmware. For my point of view a jailbreak tool does not need a custom firmware to jailbreak. No point arguing about this... Still Both can jailbreak. Just the steps are diff.

Definitely true story, real experience you face there; got it fully. Reds0w & pwnagetool are the same thing. You wanna use pwngatool? Fine, create custom IPSW and ready for DFU; and crunch your pop corn.
How bout redsn0w? Same thing, DFU and restore latest IPSW firmware and chew your gums. After done restoring, do what next? Of course following steps to JB throught redsn0w.
So now, whats the difference? I see no different except custom firmare VS ipsw. Both leads to Cydia in the end. Please enlighten me with your thoughts. I don't try to explain to people why I ride a Motorcycle, but to share my 2cents.

I dont get why you need to restore latest IPSW for redsnow? Let's say am on IOS4.3.1 now and i wanna jailbreak with redsnow do i still need to restore? pwngatool you need to create custom fw>then restore using that custom fw. Well ya both leads to Cydia just the steps are diff. Normally custom fw is good for preserving baseband for me... other then that....
Do u face problem like this "i made 1st custom firmware for example the size is 667MB then i make the 2nd one same thing as the 1st one the firmware size will be slightly diff then the 1st one" I tried on snowbreeze i donno about pwnagetool

Don't tell me BNIB iDevice all comes with 4.3.1. Not needed to restore in order to JB latest IOS? Or you are trying to test my knowledge again? I go against you cause you mentioned Pwnage tool wasn't a JB tool. I'm confused now whether you are just ignorant or testing water now.

Well no point arguing with you on Pwnage tool you can directly ask the dev team about it. And why should i need to test your knowledge as this is a discussion thread. I am not pointing fingers to anyone.

Lets ask dev team, http://blog.iphone-dev.org/. Opss, it says " So today we’re excited to release another edition of both PwnageTool and redsn0w to bring an untethered jailbreak for Apple’s latest firmware, FW 4.3.1." It's a tool after all hassle and curiosity of you. Your are definitely hoping for my reply as can see from your quotes against my replies.
Okay peeps, will stop here if not later kena banhammer. Cao.

If you use redsn0w where need to restore again if BNIB is running 4.3.1. -.- Just directly jb. But need to download the IPSW.

The author claims that by installing it will increase your battery life by 100%. Whao what?
Well, it's because you can set it so that when your phone is locked, it will automatically turn off 3G, Wifi, and Bluetooth. This is really a very nice feature in my opinion so that when I am not using my phone, it can save battery by turning off 3G and wifi.
However, it does have it's cons.
Since every time I unlocked my phone, I will feel lag due to it's need to reconnect to wifi and 3G. I can actually survive with this but a bug I found is that sometimes even when I unlocked the phone, it won't connect to 3G, and when i check back my settings, i notice 3G is off.
Besides, I don't know is it me or what, but since I am using Lockinfo, and if I am not mistaken, when you are connected to the internet using EDGE, you can't call or calls won't come in. Hence I had miss a few calls during the time I am using iControl I am guessing that the same time it was refreshing my email or whatever app, somebody call and it enter voicemail directly. I am not too sure about it though.
Another features of iControl is App Blacklist.
According to them, it means that those app in the blacklist will be automatically killed once you locked the phone. Which is really a good function for me since I don't use Sbsettings (yet), and I do notice when certain app run in background my battery actually drains faster.
However, this feature does not work at all. I tried a few times but all failed.
I had now learned my lessons. I should not simply buy any app in cydia store I want. Some googling gives me very little result of review of iControl. Most of the major iPhone blog does not review it maybe because it's sux or whatever I don't know. I should really wait for sometime until some good reviews came up before I pay for it.
Anyway, the concept of iControl is really really good, I do hope they can fix their problem and get it more polished , and then it will just become another must have app for me.
Value of Money: 1/10 Features: I will give it a 10/10 on it's feature list, but a 1/10 when I use it since 1/2 of what it mentioned does not function, and 1/2 of it did functioned but laggy and buggy
I installed ishakelock tweak. I wondering is that my problem or anyone having the same issue.
I enabled the shake to unlock as well..... But when my iphone is on "sleep" mode, I need to press the home button to unlock it.. shake doesnt work.... is that normal?

I'm planning to jailbreak my friend's IP4 later which is still on the IOS4.1. I'm planning to update it to IOS4.3.1 and jailbreak it with redsnow. With the new IOS4.3.2 released how do I update it to IOS4.3.1 with itunes?
If i not mistaken I need to update it to 4.3.1 first before proceeding with the redsnow jailbreak right?

erm.. i dun think we can wake phone out from sleep using that tweak. test on it n notice it can set to shake to lockscreen or sleep mode. once u shake to sleep mode u can shake bek to homescreen but in within few secs time frame i guess.. cz when i put it on for few mins.. it can't shake to wake from sleep anymore. i still need to press the home button

Stay on 4.1 first. 4.3.2 can be jailbroken but tethered. Strongly not recommended.
dear all, need some help here..i ve just jailbroken my iphone 4 using red snow. firmware is 4.3...dont know what happened all my icon is missing on my iphone and unable to press the cydia icon too...
I got 4.1 too but the baseband doesn't let me unlock.. why apple always make it hard to do some jailbreak/unlock.. maybe i better get some high end android

sorry i misread, i did not use the ishakelock, but the 99 cent shaketounlock which has the shake to undim and shake sensitivity option
tried the ishakelock before and shake to unlock from sleep doesnt work, this shaketounlock works
before this purchase, this is the only part where i have to use my home button

this is really frustrating, my iphone 4 always got jammed up whenever there is a new os out, and now the restore is a upgrade to 4.3.2 which is currently no JB available!
guys, anything i can do to save my jbed iphone 4 with os 4.2.1, TSS saved (is it what it called?), but i didnt installed shsh in my iphone 4, can i still use tiny umbrella to downgrade?
thanks

You can't downgrade. Unless you saved the 4.2.1 SHSH Blob during that time. Your best bet is to wait for 4.3.2 Untethered JB.. Or did u save it before? Dint' understand your 2nd paragraph

now downloading 4.3.2 already, still thinking should i try tiny umbrella, will it"blow" off my iphone 4 and turn it into a brick? last i tried 2 months ago on another iphone 4, it got stuck and scared me....luckily after connecting to itunes all things work.
oh yeah, i remember my cydia stated TSS pending....does it mean not d 4.2.1 blob saved yet...

Bear i think its got nothing to do with SSH if you want to downgrade. Sifus correct me if im wrong. But as far to my understanding is, when u save your SHSH blob you are saving your fon's firmware to saurik's server for later use.. SHSH blob is also device specific. Can't simply download ppl's one. U also trick itunes thinking that u running older firmware.

since my iphone is singapore set, i think i wont want to take the risk, the only way is to upgrade it, and wait patiently for JB, rather then got it worse....just have no confidence to try tiny umbrella again....
really frustrated, this iphone 4 been giving me problems, 3 times which also during apple came out with latest OS for upgrade in itunes...
I was trying to update the 3GS (Carrier-locked) to 4.3.1 but I didn't know that it was carrier locked (Was doing it for a friend). After updating it, I'm now stuck with the 'iTunes logo' and 'slide for emergency call' part. What should I do now?

Nothng can be done, is either you use ipad baseband or use as expensive ipod touch.

Bear,
Go download latest tiny umbrella and click Save ShSh
See log what you get. No harm done, only saving ur firmware to cydia.

Each iPhone have it's unique SHSH. So if you jailbroken it before and you saw in cydia that your SHSH is there then there is no problem to downgrade it do that firmware SHSH that you saved. So if u accidentally upgrade to iOS4.3.2 and you wanna downgrade, then what you have to do is download TinyUmbrella and click Save SHSH and wait. After that it should show you what Firmware SHSH you have saved. If it do have 4.2.1 then just click on that SHSH and Start TSS Server. then jump into your iTunes and Shift + Left click on Restore and select the iOS4.2.1 ipsw. You would probably get an error from itune when you are restoring half way. Just ignore it and close itunes. Then your phone should be in Recovery mode. Just you TInyUmbrella to kick it out. (Congratz your iPhone has been downgrade if you successfully get on to the slide to emergency call screen)
Another thing is.. Let's say i am on iOS4.2.1 and i would like to save iOS4.3.2 SHSH what could i do? NO you dont need to restore your phone to iOS4.3.2 just to save SHSH for iOS4.3.2. What you need is just to download the latest TinyUmbrella and click on Save SHSH and it will save the latest firmware SHSH even if you are not on that firmware. Or you can just open cydia and let it update itself. But the save way i still recommend is still TinyUmbrella or you can install a usefull App called iSHSHit in Cydia for backup as well.

Ya as what DE.si.MON said is true. There is few ways. iPad baseband (free), or hardware unlock. I think cutyoursim.com wont work cos the sim tray is for iPhone4. Or maybe they have one for the iPhone 3rd gen as well...

tiny umbrella cant find any SHSH ...
now, with 4.3.2....borezzzz....tot of trying out the tethered JB, but read it...looks complicated...lazy now..
Well if Apple stop signing for iOS4.2.1 even you are on iOS4.2.1 you also cant save that SHSH as Apple stop signing on that firmware. If you said 2 weeks ago maybe u get to saved iOS4.3.1 SHSH?

Yes, you should be able to saved the latest SHSH even if you're not on the latest firmware using TinyUmbrella. Make sure though that you download the latest version of TU. I think the older version of TU does not work with 4.3 and above ....

Yes u can as long as u update your tinyumbrella to the latest version. It actually depends I think tinyumbrella have not update to support ios4.2.3 yet as it just release few days ago only. But they are working on it and it will release a newer version of tinyumbrella before apple comes out a new firmware.
thx alot.. shaketounlock is far more better thn ishakelock.. btw, i dun realy und what is d use of time w/o movement
if im not mistaken, its the duration for the phone to be idle without movement before u can start shaking it for the gesture to be captured as valid shake
i may be wrong, im settin it at 2 sec
setting it just to undim(wake phone to unlock screen) can prevent accidental unlock , i dont set it to direct unlock, plus if accidently activate it to wake my phone out from sleep, it can go back to sleep/standy mode in few seconds..

If I were to cook a custom firmware with the iPad baseband using Sn0wbreeze and put it to the iPhone 3GS, is it possible to get it back to the original baseband? I've tried googling it but I don't really get what they're saying.

nope...AFAIK there is no way to downgrade your baseband after upgrade...correct me if im wrong
is that possible to upgrade 4.1 to 4.3.1 and jb it since 4.3.2 dy out? cz some apps require 4.3 above.. zzzzz
I just did this. I had 4.2.1 JB on my fon.. But i kinda screwed it up a bit today.. hand itchy and mod... screwed up my 3g couldnt use 3g all day. So.. only solution for me to autocorrect the issue was to get to 4.3.1 and JB.
What i did was i downloaded the IPSW of 4.3.1 and then connect to itunes, hit restore while shift clicking it. Then choose the 4.3.1 file. Successfully restored to a naked iphone now. So you can if you want, but everything.. did i say EVERYTHING will be gone
FOR NOW, im just going to leave it naked instead of Jailbreaking i think. Since the 4.3.2 Untethered redsnow coming out real soon.
it depends if u have previously jailbroken and saved ur shsh......
