well, one of the best ways to backup your contact is to sync with Windows Contact/Address Book. there's an option in iTunes.

apart from that, before any update of firmware, you can opt for the SSH method of accessing SMS, Contacts in your iOS file system and copy them out (backup) and place them back once update if complete.

read about it here

if u don't have another backup of your current backup, i am afraid you will not able to retrieve them. sad.gif

p/s: i never restore from backup as during the old days of 2.0 and 3.0, restoring from backup do mess up your phone in some ways.

I always make a backup by copy the latest sycn backup restore file from itunes directory so that still can restore back in case the default one corrupted, i think this is faster than using SSH method to retrieve them biggrin.gif

so what's the point of your post then if you're not willing to share?  doh.gif
well, like what i have stated in my previous post, if you're on a jailbroken phone, restoring from previous backup do mess up with your phone in some ways eg. battery drain & ocassional hang issues. hence, only manual backup would b able to avoid these.
