U also can't blame davidgary la ... he's not here 24/7. You report and he moderate. It's not his job to stop piracy but it's up to us to help davidgary. From what I can see, those people that talks piracy are not new. This people also hide behind the "Noobie" title as a reason "Oh ... I don't know ... sorry". Come on la ... this is not a warez forum. Clearly the "No piracy" policy applies to all. Heck it's even the government law not to advocate with piracy.

Look at those 2 that davidgary just gave warning (Duckyy & ssilverr82), they're a member since 2009. Thats now new. It's just our mentality ... the "tak apa" attitude.

iOS 4.3.1/2 change the artwork file name i.e. the slider background etc hence some elements from the old theme won't work.

Some info about your device would help people to troubleshoot your problem such as:

1. What iPhone version (2g, 3G, 3Gs, 4)
2. iPhone officially unlock i.e. from Maxis, Digi, Singapore, Aus, NZ (US AT&T is carrier locked)
3. Using Win or Mac to JB

For starters, here are few links to help you with the JB:

1. Download redsn0w 0.9.6RC14 from here
2. Download the firmware file corresponding to your device here. Make sure you download the correct firmware (ipsw) file. The file type should be ***.ipsw
3. Follow the guide here according to your device, firmware version, pc or mac

p/s - redsn0w 0.9.6rc14 only support untethered jailbreak for firmware 4.3.2 and you might as well download firmware umbrella to save your SHSH blobs for future jailbreak.

1st of all, the jailbreak software only support firmware 4.3.2 for untethered JB. Firmware 4.3 is not supported in redsn0w. That's why you are encountering such problem. Follow the guide that I've posted by upgrading to 4.3.2. Download the firmware directly and not thru iTunes.

Delete apps from Cydia or AppStore? If AppStore just delete thru the 'X' button while Cydia apps need to be remove thru Cydia. Any apps manually install thru deb file will also be in Cydia.

Open iTunesMetadata.plist or go to the i.e. echofon.app folder and find info.plist. You should get the bundle name from those 2 file.

What about info.plist? Are you trying to change the app icon or something?

First of all, your 3Gs is officially unlock or not? If it's officially unlock i.e. from Maxis, Singtel or Australia's Telco, U don't need ultrasnow as this was meant for locked iPhones.

Please furnish the info so forumers can help with your problem.

Hey man.. Okay I tried running this application f0recast v.1.2, the app detected sum stuff as below

Jailbreakable : Only with SHSH blobs
Unlockable : No
Tethered : Depends on Jailbreak

Ok, so what does the above tells me... Infact today I just tried jailbreaking, i tried the below link "http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-update-iphone-3gs-3g-baseband-to-06.15.00-with-redsn0w-0.9.6b5-for-ios-4.2.1-unlock/" but seems not working.

Okay..here are some info

IOS : 4.3.3
Modem Firmware : 05.16.02

Appreciate your help smile.gif tx in advance.

U still didn't answer my question on your phone unlock status i.e. official unlock from Maxis (since only Maxis have 3Gs), Singapore, Australia, NZ etc but US AT&T iPhones are locked. But from what I see:

1. Your iOS is 4.3.3 and you should use Redsn0w 0.9.6RC16 instead if your phone is officially unlock
2. If you phone is a locked set, then you are screwed since your baseband (modem firmware) is already 05.16.02. Ultrasn0w can only unlock up to 05.13.04
3. f0recast shows that unlockable status is NO so I assume yours is a locked set unless proven otherwise (I'm not familiar with f0recast)

So if your iPhone 3Gs is officially unlocked phone then I suggest you to restore back the phone with 4.3.3 then jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.6RC16 and you don't need Ultrasn0w.

If your iPhone 3Gs is a locked set then you end up with an iPod Touch instead because baseband (modem firmware) 05.16.02 is not unlockable as for now

So your first priority now is to check whether your phone is locked or unlocked set

What about the baseband thingy? I still don't understand till today doh.gif

If your phone is an official unlock phone then you should not worry about baseband. People particular about baseband if their phone is a locked phone i.e. from US AT&T.

This is a good place to start

1. http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
2. http://www.iclarified.com/ (for references)
3. www.redmondpie.com (for references)
4. http://thebigboss.org/ (for references)

And lots more. You need to do lots of reading on it.

Baseband can't be downgraded once it's upgraded. From your statement saying the shop charge you extra RM100 shows that they unlock it using ultrasn0w and it's not an official unlock phone. Seems like you got conned my friend since Singtel phones are unlock.

if using redsnow rc16, can I chose any IPSW file for update, or this is custom file? because I try download in the website I refer, after 1hour finished download there is nothing ipsw file, I could not select from redsnow
*
Normal 4.3.3 IPSW file. Custom IPSW is using Pwnagetool or Sn0wbreeze. Look at the file that you downloaded, does it end with ****.ipsw or ****.zip coz some browser will save the ipsw file in zip format.

I just don't understand why normal user wants to upgrade to a beta version less to say beta 1. If they are developers to make sure that their app is compatible with iOS 5 then I could understand.

It's a beta and later if something does not work properly, they're going to make noise here, there and everywhere.

p/s - curiosity kills the cat ... and so they said

Upgrade then downgrade .... ohhh the hassle. I would prefer a working phone (not to say iOS 5 is not working) with an untethered JB loaded with my favorite BiteSMS and theme rather than a beta software with who-knows-what-bug-they-have ... but that's just my preferences. If it's beta 3 or GM then I would understand as it already approaches a final build

p/s - I know what kind of satisfaction (or more to gloating). "Oh look I already have iOS 5 on my device while everyone don't" kind of satisfaction.

You should read properly on the 1st paragraph where it says "your mileage may vary".

@iPod30gb
Downgrade back down whistling.gif and also quoting on the last paragraph of the article "let's hope that beta 1 is stable enough for regular use"

Hey guys
I've been reading that most of you said that using tweaks such as sbsettings can cause more battery drain. This is based on your own observation, according to the developer or just agak agak saja? I know that winterboard will cause lag (but small ones) to the system response if using complicated themes and add few sec to the boot up time.

On my observation, sbsettings is not a program thats running 24/7 but only shows status of the toggle when invoke. It's just an extension to springboard and not a program by itself. Surely it will use some memory (very small amount of memory) but not to the extend of causing a battery drain right? Same as SSH last time when people said is the culprit of battery drain untill BigBoss (or was it the dev) said that SSH daemon only run when you initiates an SSH connection. If not it will go to sleep and will not use any CPU cycle or RAM or whatsoever. That's why I think that tweaks like sbsettings does not cause battery drain but running alot of application in the background, heavy mod to the system function (that always runs in the background) or heavily mod theme with live/video background MIGHT cause battery drain. But this is just my 2 cents and not the hard fact.

dont forget there was one period where jailbroken phones were susceptible to malware. im not saying JB is bad for users, im just saying it's understandable apple doesnt want to be responsible for it

i dont deny you though. the first jailbreak ever (iOS 1.1.1?) exploited a flaw in safari, and a lot more after that. apple could've easily sue the devteam to hell but probably they didn't because of their skills, and treat them as unpaid debuggers. who knows? tongue.gif

I guess that period of malware that you've mentioned is the ikee virus? First of all, it should state "Jailbroken with SSH installed but don't ever bother to change the root and mobile password" phones. It's like password protecting your computer but put a post-it note on the monitor with the password on it.

Jailbreaking is bad when those people don't know what they're getting into. That's where JB = piracy where new people acquiring an iPhone (but too cheapskate to buy apps) would ask where to get "free" apps and most people will say "You need to jailbreak the phone to install 'free' apps". It's a right response from Apple not to be responsible to any mishap happened because of Jailbreak, because it clearly stated it void the warranty but it is not illegal (only recently).

Jailbreaks at the same time breaks the limitation boundaries where the JB community gives the first copy/paste functions (then apple just sugar coated it to make it nice), ability to change wallpaper in the early days, bluetooth capabilities and lots more. Just look at iOS5 notification center, taken from the JB community but not only the concept but the developer as well. Most saddest of all, the ripoff of wifi sync where the community had it for a year and Apple just 'Copy & Paste' right to the icon. I could just imagine how the developer would feel (and he even submitted the app thru appstore but got rejected).

Jailbreaking scene is like a technological testbed for Apple to see what works and what doesn't. If that thing work then they will incorporated it in the next iOS update. It's just that they do it better (heck because it's their system to begin with). Suing those devteam would not benefit them at all, just look what happened to Sony. And like you said, they have debuggers, security analyst and innovation thinkers that they don't have to pay to help them make better iOS.
