Remember, these are based on my personal experiences, correct me if I'm wrong   |

I think RM1700 is probably grey set. The units brought in by Sigma cost over 2k isn't it? Not quite sure.

This is probably the only third party being pricier than the Nikkor glass. Probably different build and quality.

is there a recommended brand for pop flash diffuser?
i'm using d3100+di622 for off camera flash. hence, the di622 is in slave mode and it is triggered by my pop flash. i want to soften the harsh flash from the pop up. I want to learn use telephoto lens but one of lens in my wishlist, 70-200mm F/2.8G is wayyyy to expensive. Dun think can manage to get them even in 2012. LOL. How bout Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G. Will i regret getting them or should i wait in year 2016 when i have the money to buy f/2.8?

oh noo...bad sign bad sign.
tested my new d7000 just now. tried some fast shutter shots. looks like it's jamming. anything above 1/800, when i press the button, i hear the clark then the top lcd blinks Err and i get a black image. i press shutter button again, i hear clark and then it's ready for another shot. press again, same thing, hear sound, Err and black image. what could be the problem. shutter unit problem or wad? |

no it's definitely a problem. i tried it outside. iso 6400.
on the times it manage to release successfully, i get an underexposed image, which is normal. the times it shows ERR, i get a black image. Added on December 28, 2010, 5:55 pm dark could be because the shutter doesnt open. by dark i mean it is actually totally black. nothing at all. not the usual underexposed dark u get when your shutter speed is too fast for ambient light. but there is one time I did burst mode w/ my body *just for testing* (in this case the lens cap is closed). it worked fine.  |

VR needs to be turned off when you mount your camera on a tripod and doing long exposure, if not the VR system will cause some shakes in the picture

I didn't even bother to take pics at the Mitsubishi booth. The only real way to save them would be trying to replace the green channel with yellow, or do a B&W conversion. |

Hi.....my D90 shows r05 when I press the shutter halfway.....as I search r05 means the buffer have rooms for 5 more pix.....is this means I can only take 5 pix only in burst mode?
One thing I noticed since the r05 appear in my LCD.......the pix count didn't even drop......it always shows 1.0k.....its like I have room for 1k pix in my card regardless how many pix I have shot...... I shot using JPEG.....size of the card is 4GB.......can sumone help me explain why this happening.....do I need to send to SC to check it......thanks |

r05 means your buffer is big enough for 5 photo. Assuming you have no memory card, you can shoot 5 photo. But under normal usage your camera will write to memory as new images goes to buffer. So slightly more than 5 photo I guess.

My D700 went wet the first week too lol, it was drizzling and the shooting continues. About the same condition as raz's.
4 photogs shooting under the rain, all Nikon wohoo~ D3 + 85 , D700 + 85, D700 + 70200 and D300s + 70200 hahaha! Wanted to take a group photo before going under shelter when it started raining cats and dogs but my friend went to wipe his unit jor  . |

my fren's D90 also have the ERR problem. tis happens when she was taking pictures n din notice the long shutter exposure and when she hit the shutter button, it stays open for a short period n she turn the cam power off. since then, it give ERR when she took pictures at 18mm. i try to take out the lens and put it back, so far i haven't hear anyhthing from her. could this "mirror lockup during exposure" cause the cam to hit ERR?

This Agnes was playing around -.- So hard to shoot her LOL. Cause she off duty then came to say hi to me while I was shooting the Mitsubishi side. Then when I wanted to shoot her she was jumping all over . |

D7000 is not a pro camera. So you might want to consider that. IMO, that is currently the best crop sensor out there.
If you want anything better, it is from the FX range already. D700/D3/D3s/D3x. |

Sony's 35mm f1.4 is not that good la actually. the new 35mm f1.8 is almost on par with it just that the build quality is not that good, 1 stop slower, and non-FF compatible BUT 2 times cheaper.

Because 50mm f/1.8D is the cheapest prime lens available. It is going for RM380 new, the cheapest lens that gives bokeh LOL.
35mm f/1.8G on the other hand is pricier. |

After you deleted, did you take any more photo? If you didn't you can try 'Recuva'. But if you've taken photo after deleting then you probably won't be able to recover it.

Define 'better'? If you're talking about the DOF then yes generally FX has thinner DOF.
But if bokeh quality for example like how round the highlights etc all depends on the lens. Anyways, the reason I said my lens all got an 'upgrade' from D700, because of the AF speed. The AF system in D700 is so much faster than on D90's. Another thing to note is my 1635 is finally a real UWA lens, 85mm range is just nice on FX, and 70200 range also superb for my usage now. Not too tele and has a 'wider' end on 70mm too. |

celciuz, i was at Chang Chun, China. following the trip by tour guide. it is difficult to hold to shoot and find a shop for memory card. btw, electronic stuff is exp there...is a good exp and lesson to learn. mis-delete the photo just becoz the environment too cold for my hand to keep outside. next time shud replay it in the hotel.
D7000 new battery perform damn well. i shoot bout 1900+. 1st charge during the trip left around 20%, and after 2nd charge, now still remain 60% when i back to msia. shooting in some -15 to -20+ celcius most of the time. impressed** |

To me snapping the moment is better than changing lens for better quality photos.D300 works well as my "second body". I don't have to sweep lens, unless I have all the time, for example my college assignments like taking still object photos and etc. In fast moving event like Comic Fiesta, I don't sweep lens at all. 17-35 on my D3s and 70-200 on D300 full time. |

^ I do it 2 ways
1) Lightroom 3.2 for RAW 2) Take a piece of white paper and set the white balance to program mode. Then shoot the white piece of paper. if the metering comes out the word "GOOD" then I am good to go. |

Anyway I have no idea on customizable Colour balance. While I do thought that White balance does effect the colour balance of a picture. Anyway for D3, other than the preset of white balance, you can choose to program your own white balance, so that's how you set one on a D3, use a piece of white paper. |

HD using same coating as the Pro1D, just with 1 more hard layer for protection. Frankly speaking, both are good. But I pick the HD due to hardness and way easier to clean.

Just get the UV, its easier to find anyways. Protector is just a clear glass, that one not many shops carry them.

Higher aperture (e.g F 1.4)
will give you more focus hence more bokeh, due to many light come in to the sensor however Lower aperture (e.g f 8) less light comes to the sensor. it will give you less bokeh and sharper image, because the defocusing due too many light doesn't occur. I'm using D90 (kitlens) + Nissin 622. I will be attending my dept's bowling tournament. I bet the lighting maybe tricky. So, what the tips & other tools might come handy to get best photoshot ? 1. Set at shutter priority ? 2. Use white balance cap ? |

I was shooting an F100 and F80 right up till 2008. Somehow APS-C just never felt right to me. 17-35/2.8 focuses to about 2 inches in front of the front-most element. But that thing is HUGE, and its difficult to use any strobes with it even if its an SB800 on the hotshoe. Best to use off-camera flash. I use the R1C1 if I have to shoot at macro ranges with the 17-35. Also, since its a wideangle, you don't get much magnification out of it as compared to a tele macro or 50/1.8 and close up. It goes up to ~ 1:5 while a 50/1.8 and +4 will get you down to about 1:2.5 life size, double the magnification of the 17-25/2.8 Plus its easier to carry around, and your date won't grumble about your camera's epeen size... @BenSow: For macro I think MF is the easiest way to focus. It gives you the best control in placing your focus point. Difficult to frame and focus with AF since at macro ranges, a little bit of movement will change your framing by a lot. |

Hi guys, I own a Nikon D60 which was bought at April 2009. There is a green pixel that appears roughly in the middle of every picture that I take now. It's been like this for about 1 month. It's not really a big deal because I am often on Photoshop using healing tools to remove pimples and the also the green pixel, but it's a botherance to know that this thing is affecting all my pictures.
How do I fix this? The warranty is already over, by the way. If I can't fix this myself, which shop around Petaling Jaya would be recommended and how much do you think it should cost? If it helps, the shutter count is only about 15,000. |

Its 4 cores, 8 threads. I run Ubuntu and virtualize win7 &winxp on it using vmware. That way I can run my desktop practically anywhere and on any hardware.
The drivers aren't difficult. In fact most of it are precompiled into the kernel modules. I just swapped my ssd onto the sandy bridge board and booted it... Worked right out of first boot, unlike windows where you have to install drivers and all... My printers work, my scanner works, everything works. And with virtualization I dont even have to reinstall windows. For LR3, go to the develop module. Scroll down on the right pane, NR is there. You can adjust both luma and chroma noise reduction. I never transfer with Lightroom. Always get bug one. Copy or cut the photos directly from the memory card to you computer, then only load from Lightroom. It's the same. at first i didnt check it. but after 4 days getting my d3100, i alrdy used 1.7k shutter counts. haha. so excited to get my first dslr.
not sure what is my shutter count now though...been 3 weeks since. *and the shutter count for my first picture snap is 3. hehe. weeeee. maybe the first 2 snaps were from the factory for QA purposes. i think the live view & video also contributed to the shutter counts too? My D700 is less than 1 month old, 8k+ shutter already LOL.
Don't worry, just shoot! If every month I do 8k, also need like 20 months only reach the rated 150k. The only reason I took 8k shutter on December is because many many event. |

I am not quite a spammer but I never hesitate on shooting. Why save your shutter? Not like you take a few more photos will reach 100k so soon. And don't ever worry about reaching 100k and your camera will spoil. I used my ex D40 for 1 year+ and resulted in 20k+- shutter only (without saving shutter count). Heck, when I sold it it's still clicking perfectly.
OT: @edwardgsk you mentioned RAID 0, i've read about RAID in some websites but still can't get a hang of how to make my harddisks into RAID 0 or any RAID number. Can u pm me a guide of how to change it? And is it possible to change to Raid 0 without format? thanks |

got a question here....before this, u guys were comparing speeds when u transfer pics from your card through the card reader.
I'm just wondering how u all test this speed? is it just by rough estimation as what showed by the windows transfer window or u guys use some app? those app i see some test 50mb, some 100mb. but the pics are like 3mb each or raw might be 15mb each. so how do u all test them? |

Use HD tach or crystalmark or some benchmarking suite.
Using teracopy also shows you a running average speed of the current copying task. |
