What is the main difference between this S95 and the replaced?

One notable feature is the inclusion of HD video in it.

I enquired at Canon's website and got a reply from them - the s95 will only be available here in Malaysia in mid-November to early December...

that's crap, if really only available mid Nov, cause it's already available in SG. Just saw it at the Canon shop at Vivo just last weekend.

Was tempted to get it, but did not (now i wished i did)

found out that if u r using fully auto mode of s95..it didn't give you a good photo
sigh..thus that means it's better to buy 300hs then...

The S95 is not for P&S shooter, more to compliment DSLR users like the G series. The 300HS is better for Auto Mode users.
Damn, don't know should get the S95 or the LX5? Soooo hard to decide...

so meaning if i'm using auto mode only, it's better to get 300hs? coz if i buy s95, my mum wouldn't know how to use it then..

s95 or lx5...depends on whether pocketability is an issue or not lo..n do u want to invest in lens etc..

yup, every other forum i've visited seems to be of that opinion.. if you're just shooting in auto, the 300hs would be better than the s95 - and also more $avings

just saw the s95 in hong kong, retailing for about RM1,400.. the 300hs is about RM1,200.. oh, interestingly, the 300hs is available in silver in hong kong.. i think they only have red, white and black here, no? anyways, that's for a different discussion board

Here was what Canon's customer service rep replied to me when I emailed them about S95's launch in Malaysia and about warranty if purchase from other country...

"Thank you for your interest in our Canon products and as a Canon customer we appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We apologize for the delay in reply.

With regards to your inquiry, it is expected to be released sometime by mid November or early December. We would like to seek your understanding here that the warranty only valid at the country of purchase.

One of the shop at ground floor. I asked around prices ranged between SGD550 (no accessories) to SDG600 (with accessories)

just wait if u want to have less trouble claiming ur warranty.... my s90 got problem i just send there and 2-3 day fix and can collect back. Sometimes it is not worth risking just be a bit more patient.

when it comes to the latest gadgets, malaysia is a good 2-3 months behind everyone else, hehehe... on the plus side, i see the canon s95 specs added into canon malaysia's website dy... last month didn't have... they may have it soon, but i think you're right, they could be trying to clear off the s90s first - now going for as low as RM1,100... (compared to RM1,749 recommended retail price earlier this year)

hi all, i got d S95 quotation in spore, price $599, Camera + 8Gb ram + casing.

just play with my sg fren's S95.

in my opinion:

1. its complicated for PnS user.
- my fren don know how to use at all, except auto.

2. the PASM mode ring is hard to ring.
- maybe its my 1st time use, but the ring is really hard to push...

3. screen is sooooooooooooooooooo nice
- not sure the picture quality how, only play with the camera, view on screen is damn nice.

4. body is quite hot when using.
- the camera feel quite hot after ON for several minutes.

5. menu is hard to use.
- me and 1 of another fren who use dslr nid quite some time to know the setting all that, so it is really a hard task for PnS shooter.

6. scene mode is fun, fish eye, color swap, color selection, but panorama stitch i cant figure out how to use...

paiseh sniper, my fren juz sms me and told me that s95 LAUNCH DY!!!!!!

So difficult ker? I suppose S90 and S95 menus are 95% similiar. My wife has no problems robbing my S90 and using it... no need to teach also... straight away shooting A and TV mode... video in a couple minutes.

btw, how to use stitch scene ? stitch is like panorama rite ? 1st time use i take 3 picture, and enter the middle of the circle ring at the back, but then noting happen, 3 picture appear separately. 2nd time i take till 6 pic, i tot it will finish, but still i enter the middle of the circle ring, 6 pic appear....

or it jus help u to take pic but nid pp at computer ?

RM1.3k is a pretty nice price for this camera.. makes choosing the LX-5 a no-brainer if you're cost-inhibited.

i just bought the S95! finally decided on this after reviewing between this and used LX3 or new LX5. compactness was the tipping factor for me.

got it at sg wang 2nd floor, boeing photo (http://www.boeingphoto.com.my) for RM1199. i didn't want the case + 4GB card, so that's why i got a lower price.

i find it ok to hold the s95 without any custom grip to take photos... prefer it this way in fact, as it's compact.

It's ok but the Franiec gives that extra kungfu grip+sense of security. Helps to reduce handshake blur also.

the stitch function after you shoot the photo, you have to use the software to combine it. The software come with the CD. very easy to use.

That's Sony sweep panorama advantage (although it doesn't work perfectly). Very leceh to stitch manually...tried a couple of times then feel lazy liao. Now if I wanna show the whole panorama... switch to video

the pp part is not so leceh, but the taking part more leceh.

Just became a proud owner of the S95. Bought it for RM1,315 at BB Plaza - hfwong [http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showuser=351423 ] of Foto Edar whom I found thru this forum.

For the price, I got 4gb SD card + pouch + screen protector

Been playing it around for the past few days and from someone who have not bought a camera for the past 6yrs, it is quite adaptable since my old camera was also a Canon. Learning curve is there but it's not that super hard.

I decided to go with the S95 instead of the Lumix LX5 purely because of her compactness. The LX5 is a slightly better camera but it can't fit in my pant's pocket.

Here's an AUTO shot I took... in fact this was my very first shot taken with the camera.

I just played with my friend's S95 and I am amazed by the way this camera handles night shots.

But, may I know, how this S95 compares with Sony TX1, especially in terms of night shots?

i'm an S95 owner. Never seen/played with the TX1 but based on specs, it seems to have a smaller aperture than S95.

Aperture : Auto(F3.5-F4.6)

S95 has 2.0 aperture at widest angle. This means that it allows more light in, which is good for night shots. So far, based on my experience with S95, I find it very useful to use Av mode and fix the aperture to 2.0 then allow the camera to select shutter speed. The other day I managed to get a good night shot even without flash this way.

and select S95/TX1 for comparison. Perhaps look at indoor ISO800 (night shots will most probably be shot at ISO 800 upwards), and compare. look at the crayons/pepper shaker and you can see the difference in noise level between the 2 cameras.

Hmmm..it seems that S95 really handles night shots very well!

here's a nightshot taken with S95... flash off, Av mode set to 2.0, handheld (camera did come out with the orange camera shake logo, but i think my hands are steady enough to get a clear shot). probably need to find another camera to take a similar shot to compare but i don't have any others click on the thumbnail below for bigger photo

hmmm imho, i think it makes the S95 look ugly. just my opinion. it looks very nice as it is, i really like the standard finishing on the casing (i think same as eos 7d?)

I agree... the S95 looks awesome as it is. That leather grip really does make it look cheap and ugly in my opinion.

Hard to say, this 3 model about the same level. I asked this question before, most say lx3 or lx5 better, but canon S95 is cheaper compare with lx3 and lx5..

Wow gratz, i still thinking which 1 to get, S95 or LX3. My friends keep psycho me ask me buy dslr, but i never own a camera before, still a newbie... Besides, even S95 > LX3 or LX3 > S95, dont have skill taking phone, how good the camera also no use,

It's a tough decision between S95 and LX5. In the end I chose the S95 mainly because it is a more compact size and easier to carry. In terms of picture quality, they are both very close.

Of course the S95 is also cheaper.

Haha, from outlook, i feel S95 quite plastic, but lx3 like toy, lol... U got ur right, some more canon brand is more famous, and price cheap is a good steal...

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing my S95 and yes the LX5 is slightly better in terms of features so if you don't mind slinging around a camera on your arm especially during travelling, then get the LX5.

If you're like me who insists on keeping my camera in my pants pocket.. then really the S95 is the best option.

do u guys stick a crystal glass thing in front of the camera lense for s95?they recommended me and was told that it is good for the lense as it is anti crack and scratch something LOL..is that crystal thing necessary>
