Hi, I was hunting for a good deal for S95 and discovered a few things.

1. some shops quote RM1300.00 but give soft PVC canon case and old stock
4 GB card plus non canon screen protector.

2. If you want the brown leather canon case with card and screen protector
the price is RM1399.00

3. The sg wang shop offer RM1199.00 camera only but will not give the
screen protector.

4. Tried to find lowyat shop on grd flr selling at RM1270.00 full package as
posted by a member but cannot find.

5. Finally bought my S95 full package for RM1340.00 which include
a) 1 + 2 yr warranty
b) Brown leather canon case made for s95
c) Brand new SanDisk 4GB SDHC card
d) Canon screen protector
e) Good professional service not LSLY like sg wang shop.

Members who are looking to buy S95 pls be careful. A lot of conman out there.

where did you get it from ? shop name please smile.gif

one shop told me that canon doesnt produce screen protector.
*
The packaging looks like from Canon with logo and canon red colour. Maybe
fake but i think ok bcos only screen protector.

This is the case i got. Actually i dont think it is real leather but looks and feel like
leather. It is from Canon and printed on a card in the the box "not for resale"
Good quality and protect the camera very well.

You can view the photos here.

The picture posted by another member above i think is not from Canon. Aftermarket
and can get easily on ebay.

Added on November 8, 2010, 10:23 pmI dont want to mention the shop where i bought here bcos some shops dont like
the publicity. The brown case can get from the other photo shop too like
Boei_ _ Sg Wang or Binta_ _ Maj_ Just ask them to show you. I think Canon
supply the brown case for S95 package if you pay full price but some shops keep
and sell for RM100.00 each.

PM me if you guys cannot get the brown case.

Added on November 8, 2010, 10:31 pmanother link showing photo of S95 original case with box and canon card.

Hi, Do you guys get a light line on your s95 lcd screen when shooting a bright light source
such as a bright street lamp at night? The line does not appear on playback of the shot.
I always get the line when shooting at 28mm. Can someone advice if this is normal
or my screen is rosak. Thanks

I wonder why is the RRP for S90 more expensive than S95?
*
Maybe the same reason why the latest model laptop only cost half what I paid for
my laptop 5 years ago.

hardware shop? So general ah...  tongue.gif
how does it looks like?
originally is used for what purpose?
*
Looks like this. Get this model 360ml (HPL810) it is the slimmest that can store our S95 with
Canon soft black case. Look under "tupperware" section at jusco, coldstorage, ACE etc.
cost about RM15.00.

For long term storage i put a packet of silica gel in to prevent fungus.

compacts very rarely get fungus.
anyway, i just use a lowepro apex 20 for my casing...size is just right for moving around with belt loop, rain cover etc.

The case is useful if the S95 owner fall into a river or sea ha ha. Just joking

- New CMOS sensor.
- MORE zoom but slower lens
- Now comes with 24mm
- New processor
- GPS
- LCD still low resolution compared with others.
*
-better front and rear grip (FRANIEC must be disappointed)
-now available in "titanium" colour option
-for those who shoot video s100 has dedicated button
and can zoom while shooting.
-RRP $430 available in Nov 2011
-all said i prefer the solid brick look
and faster lens of S95.
-2 yrs warranty remaining on my s95 so not much
reasons to upgrade.

I do feel a little disappointed with the S100 though.

The S95 is already lacking in the lens department considering the LX5, XZ-1, EX all have faster lens.

Now they make it even slower.  doh.gif

GPS and longer zoom may appeal to the more casual users but they already have good casual user powershot with long zoom and gps in the SX230.

ps: Franiec busy making olympus grips now tongue.gif
*
I agree. S100 should remain as high end compact where Picture quality
is most important. -24 or 28mm f1.8 would be better.

New S100 thread anyone? Pls let us know here.

the S100 actually seems promising.
sure the s95 at 105mm is f/4.9, but s100 at 105mm is around f/5.6, about 1/2 stop difference...
the new processor that claims to reduce noise more should hopefully even it out.
s100 apparently also got a 8fps high speed burst mode.
guess my s90 going to drop price even more...still got 1.5yrs warranty to go tongue.gif
*
s95 is better than s90 so s100 will surely be better than s95.
Canon already claim s100 at iso1600 is the same as s95 at iso400.
For me direct video button and ability to zoom during video
shoot is a plus. Also s100 focus point can be moved around . s95
focus point is center at P mode which i normally use. At auto
the camera chose the multi focus points.
Right now i say no plan to upgrade but once Ken Rockwell claim
it is the new "best compact in the world" ( now he claim it is the s95)
I will rush out and buy the s100. I am a sucker for the guy's review.
A seldom mention plus for s95/s90/s100 is its most compact size and lowest
price when compared to other premium compacts. This encourage
owners carry them around. The best camera is no use if kept at home.

That's pure bollocks .... m43 sensor which is many times the size is only 2 stops better and there's no way that could happen with same size sensor. Maybe they meant now it comes with even greater noise reduction in the jpeg engine.
*
"As well as the noise reduction system in the processor, the S100 has on-chip noise reduction to tackle both fixed pattern and random noise. For the first time in this level of camera, Canon has given the user control over the level of noise reduction applied at the processing stage.

We weren't able to examine the images we shot with the S100, but Canon is claiming that images taken at ISO 1600 with the S100 are on a par with those taken at ISO 400 with the S95. It's a bold claim and one that we look forward to investigating when we get a full production sample in for testing"

My view exactly. Unless you are a professional photographer carrying your camera 24/7 everywhere you go or you actually expect to take photos that day so carry a dedicated camera with you, the best camera for many people is actually a phone with camera function. This is simply because people nowaday carry phone with them everywhere they go 24/7, some even took their phone into the own house toilet.
*
How come nobody thought of adding phone feature to a camera like s100. It already has GPS
Just add a touchscreen.

Hello Canon/Nikon, extra business -take up my idea ( dont forget my commission pls) LOL

it doesnt matter whether the s100 is better than the s95 or not. most important, s95 users better ask urself if u are thinking of upgrading to the s100... have u really pushed the s95 to its very limit? i always believe, the best camera, is the camera u are currently having! smile.gif
*
I actually printed the s95 user manual so I know there are many features i have not used
or mastered. But it is hard to resist the latest model. During the film days people used to keep
their cameras for 10 to 20 years. Nowdays it is every 1 to 2 years.

if u have the $$$ for s100, better u consider upgrading to a proper dslr smile.gif
*
Dslr has its own followers. I dont think s90/95/100 buyers are constrained
by price rather they want a high quality compact which is portable and stealthy.

I dont know about others but if someone point a slr at me I will feel my
privacy has been voilated but if point and shoot or phone cam then OK

The s100 cost $30 more than s95 so estimate price at launch should be
about RM1700 dropping to RM1400 after 6 month. My guess only lah.

My buddy Ken has announced the S100 as "the world's best pocket camera"

my camera flash won't pop up even if i on it already. it will be written "wrong flash position. restart camera". restart it, still won't pop up. Help!
*
sometime if your finger block the flash from popping up the message "wrong flash position.
restart camera".will appear. off/on the flash or camera. It should be OK after that.

The flash location is not suitable bcos we usually place our finger there. Many times
i was sometime surprised by the flash automatically popping up and hitting my finger.
Too bad s100 flash still the same

Better stick w one powershot thread

But this is a S95 thread not powershot. Might make S100 topic search a
problem no? S95 owners who are not upgrading can remain here. Just
my view.

Added on September 19, 2011, 10:37 pm"Awesome camera this S90. So happy with it. I'm not a photography enthusiastic but I'm particular about my photos quality but I didn't want a DSLR, too expensive and advanced for me. This model was suggested by my friend, and I don't regret it one bit! It's just that fine line between an easy point and shoot digi cam and a DSLR. If you're good enough, I think you can take pictures from this cam which looks like it was taken from a DSLR! Thumbs up for S90! "

Well said by a fellow member who post the above. Both S90 and S95 are very capable compacts
which you can use to hone your skill to a high level ( like adam_iss )

Some are here to discuss the s95 camera. Their photos are private and for personal consumption.
Replacement model coming sure there is some excitement lah. When the s100 is available
locally there will be even more talk.

Others think the s95 is just a tool so they are here to show what the camera can do and
so they post photos to solicit praise and comments.

Both groups should be equally welcome

Nikon just launched their interchangeable lens compacts.
The Nikon 1 (J1 variant) only slightly bigger than S95 without lens.
The V1 variant has viewfinder. J1 looks nice when paired with pancake lens

Just want to share. I am always looking out for a better camera case. I donnt like
those with magnet because it can open easily if bumped. I also cant find cases which
can clip onto the belt without removing the belt . Well today Ifound what i was looking
for and actually bought two from a bicycle shop. The brand is TOPEAK. Google these
model numbers to view ( 1. TC2239B and 2. TC2235B) One is velcro and the other zipper.
Affordable and just nice for s90/s95. Cheers
